Florida Lottery on Pace for another Year of Record-Breaking Sales

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (January 2, 2014) -- The Florida Lottery announces that just half way through the fiscal year it is on track to post record-breaking sales for the third straight year in a row -- this time in the amount of more than $5.1 billion for fiscal year 2013-14. This projected amount will surpass the previous sales record of $5 billion during fiscal year 2012-13.  As a result, the Lottery also would transfer a record $1.43 billion to Florida’s education system.

The Lottery’s sole mission is to sell tickets to generate additional funding for education.  We are extremely proud that this unprecedented sales record will assist in furthering that goal,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O’Connell."

“For the past 25 years, Lottery dollars have benefited Florida’s students and schools, and we are hopeful that this year will prove to be the largest contribution yet.”

Florida Lottery Scratch-Off games are the leading sales producers, accounting for approximately 60 percent of overall ticket sales. Scratch-Off games continue to be an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio and are available for purchase through vending machines or counter displays at more than 13,000 Florida Lottery retailers state wide.

The Florida Lottery’s success depends on its effective implementation of an entrepreneurial business model that focuses on the development of new revenue streams and creates a win-win partnership with its private-sector vendors.  The Lottery constantly evaluates its operating expenses in order to maximize profits, a practice that has resulted in the Lottery having one of the lowest expense rates among domestic lotteries.

About The Florida Lottery

The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $26 billion to education and sending more than 650,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Florida Lottery reinvests nearly 98 percent of its revenue back into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,000 Florida retailers and transfers to education.

Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have paid more than $37 billion in prizes and made more than 1,300 people millionaires.

Frogger Ticket Success in Michigan

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, (December 19, 2013) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) (“Pollard Banknote”) is pleased to announce the impressive sales results of the Michigan Lottery’s latest $2 instant game - Frogger! Unlike the frogs in the popular video game published and licensed by Konami Digital Entertainment (“KONAMI”), this instant ticket has no obstacles in its way. Launched on October 1, 2013, the Frogger instant game is making leaps and bounds in the Michigan market - selling 41% above the average $2 game and selling more than $7 million in its first five weeks in the market. Due to the exceptional sales, the Lottery has placed a reorder for the game.

The Michigan Lottery's Frogger ticket encapsulates the brand equity of the classic Frogger video arcade game by KONAMI, and features an extended play format and whimsical ticket art that resonates with players. This game also gives holders of non-winning tickets a second chance to win by playing the Frogger Challenge interactive game on the Michigan Lottery's Player's Club website. Rather than a game of chance, like most instant ticket second chance contests, Frogger game skill is rewarded. The players with the three highest scores each week win a total of $175 worth of instant tickets. Emulating the arcade video game, the interactive version offers a leaderboard, allowing players to see where they rank among the top 50 scores, and instilling excitement and a competitive spirit. This interactive promotion continues until March 31, 2014.

The Michigan Lottery selected this game for its broad appeal. We knew it would draw existing instant players, while attracting new players who fondly recall Frogger from their youth, as well as the 18 to 34 year-old demographic who are drawn to the interactive online game,” explained Tom Weber, Chief Deputy Commissioner, Michigan Lottery. “We were confident in the sales power of Frogger, and it has not let us down. An impressive 90% of the tickets were sold in just five weeks. In addition to its sales success, we are very excited about the player engagement this game has achieved, with over 88,000 interactive games played to date.”

Exclusively offered by Pollard Banknote, Michigan Lottery’s Frogger is one of many recent Frogger instant ticket success stories, proving that Frogger has strong brand power in the North American market,” remarked Sina Aiello, Vice President, Marketing, Pollard Banknote.

With a leaderboard and prizing based on interactive game play, this game represents an interesting evolution of our Frogger interactive game. These unique characteristics add additional excitement for players who compete in order to jump to the top of the leaderboard and ultimately win fun prizes.”

Pollard Banknote and its predecessor companies have been the primary instant ticket supplier to the Michigan Lottery since 1986. The Michigan Lottery reported annual sales of $2.4 billion in fiscal year 2012, and generated over $778 million in net revenue for Michigan’s School Aid Fund, which supports public education programs throughout the State. Since 1972, the Lottery’s total contributions to schooling have grown to exceed $17 billion.

Governor Corbett Announce Pennsylvania Will Not Extend Lottery Private Management Agreement Bid

Will Continue to Fight for the Financial Interests of Older Pennsylvanians

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (December 30, 2013) -- Governor Tom Corbett today announced that the commonwealth and Camelot Global LLC (“Camelot”) will not continue to pursue the Lottery Private Management Agreement, and his administration will continue to fight for the best interests of the Older Pennsylvanians by looking for other ways to grow revenue.

"We have decided not to extend Camelot’s bid for the Lottery Private Management Agreement first reached over a year ago” Gov. Corbett said. “As we move forward, we will take what we’ve learned to make our successful lottery even better--expanding the player and retailer base, improving player loyalty, and implementing strategies that will grow our lottery, responsibly and efficiently.”

“I want to thank the teams for the hard work and effort,” Corbett said. “Our continued goal is to ensure a growing, predictable revenue stream for senior programs to meet the growing demand, and we will continue to work with all stakeholders and interested parties to explore new ways to harness market resources to enhance our Lottery’s continued success.”

In April 2012, the commonwealth began the competitive procurement process to engage a private manager to run the Pennsylvania Lottery. Last November, it announced Camelot Global, LLC, a global leader in the lottery sector, as the selected vendor and awarded the contract. However, the process was later challenged by the Attorney General, prompting several extensions of the bid.

Pennsylvania initially pursued a contract for management services to assure a more predictable and growing revenue source for Older Pennsylvanians and to keep up with the anticipated demand for our growing senior population.

Through a competitive procurement, Pennsylvania awarded the management agreement, which would have assured at least $34.6 billion in profit – an increase of up to $5 billion - that could have been invested in senior programs throughout the life of the contract. This was significantly greater than this years profit growth of $6 million, and could have met growing demand for services for senior citizens.

The Pennsylvania Lottery was created in 1971 to generate funds for programs benefitting older adults. Since 1972, when its first game went on sale, the Pennsylvania Lottery has contributed nearly $23.7 billion to programs that include property tax and rent rebates; free transit and reduced-fare shared rides; the low-cost prescription drug programs PACE and PACENET; long-term living services; and the 52 Area Agencies on Aging, including hundreds of full- and part-time senior centers throughout the state. The Pennsylvania Lottery remains the only U.S. Lottery that exclusively designates all proceeds to programs benefitting older residents.

Connecticut Lottery’s Play3 Day & Night “BONUS PAYOUT” Promotion Begins December 29

Limited Time Promotion Guarantees Players a Chance to Win up to 20% More in Play3 Prizes

ROCKY HILL, Connecticut (December 26, 2013) -- Back again by popular demand for a limited time -- it’s the CT Lottery’s Play3 Day and Play3 Night Bonus Payout Red Ball promotion!  Beginning December 29th, Play3 Day and Play3 Night players are guaranteed to win up to 20% in more in prizes at least once every 7 days when the Bonus Payout Red Ball is drawn!

Here’s How the Bonus Payout Red Ball Works:

An additional ball machine will be used during the Play3 Day and Play3 Night drawings.  Initially, this ball machine will contain 7 balls:  6 White and 1 Red.  If a White ball is drawn, no changes are made to regular prize payouts; the ball will be removed from the mix, and the next drawing will be made from the remaining balls.

If the Red ball is drawn, winning Play3 tickets will get up to 20% more prize money!

All 7 balls go back into the mix for the game’s next drawing, and the chance for the Red Ball Bonus Payout begins again.

With this Bonus Payout matrix, the Red ball is guaranteed to be drawn at least once every 7 days.

During the CT Lottery’s last three Bonus Payout promotions, the Red ball was drawn 20 times (out of 84 draws), resulting in 19,306 Bonus Payouts, for a total of $494,663 in extra Bonus Payout prizes.

Play3 Day and Play3 Night drawings are independent of each other -- a Play3 Day Bonus Payout ball machine drawing result does not impact a Play3 Night drawing.  Each game is played and treated separately.

Overall odds of winning a prize in Play3 vary by type of wager; Bonus Payout odds vary by draw.  To find out if the winning Bonus Payout Red Ball has been drawn, visit ctlottery.org or ask your Lottery Retailer.

Any Play3 Day or Night winning ticket sold for a Bonus Payout Red Ball drawing will automatically payout out at the increased prize amount.

The anticipated end date for the Bonus Payout promotion is January 25, 2014.  The CT Lottery reserves the right to end or change the length of the promotion in accordance with promotion rules.

Play3 Day drawings are held daily at 1:57pm.  Play3 Night drawings are held daily at 10:29pm.

The CT Lottery reminds the public that purchasers must be 18 or older, and to please play responsibly.

'Just Imagine' the Difference as The National Lottery Smashes £31 Billion Milestone

UNITED KINGDOM (January 1, 2014) -- The National Lottery launches a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the massive impact that £31 billion in project funding has had across the UK since the first National Lottery draw 20 years ago this year. Called 'Just Imagine', the innovative digital and social media campaign, uses a range of techniques to encourage the public to consider an alternative reality of what might have been if The National Lottery had not funded more than 420,000 arts, sport, heritage and voluntary projects across the UK.

The campaign begins with a video interview of Seb Coe, who gives a personal reflection on what the UK will miss out on as a result of 'losing' the bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Coe is interviewed for a pseudo rolling news item on July 6 2005 after IOC president Jacques Rogge has announced Paris as host for the 2012 Games, instead of London. http://bit.ly/19WsNeU

Seb Coe

The campaign is launched as The National Lottery reaches the £31 billion funding milestone. Commenting on the campaign, Seb Coe said: "The London Olympic and Paralympic Games were a truly remarkable achievement, created by such a large number of people and organisations. The National Lottery was one of those organisations, delivering £2.2billion in funding and playing such a vital role in helping us realise the dream of delivering the greatest sporting and cultural event in the world. Without the funding generated by The National Lottery and its players our nation would be a very different place."

Released on Twitter (@lottogoodcauses #JustImagine) and Facebook today, the Seb Coe Just Imagine news report is the first in a series of 31 items to feature through January - one for each day and each £1 billion raised.

The campaign will run through the first four months of the year, with further phases including an original animation movie telling the story of funding, and other "positively disruptive" digital techniques, according to a National Lottery spokesperson.

Vicki Kennedy, Director of The National Lottery Promotions Unit, said: "National Lottery players have now raised an incredible £31 billion for the arts, sport, heritage and voluntary sectors. This money has transformed sporting performance, preserved our rich heritage for future generations, made our cultural industry the envy of the world and helped so many charities through hard times. Through 31 fun and thought-provoking pieces of content, this campaign will demonstrate the life-changing difference that National Lottery funding makes."
