Pollard Banknote’s Instant Holiday Game Sets Cyprus Government Lottery Sales Record

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada (January 8, 2014) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) (“Pollard Banknote”) is pleased to announce the sales success of the Cyprus Government Lottery’s €3 holiday game, Merry Christmas. Selling out in just five weeks, Merry Christmas has become the bestselling instant ticket in the Lottery's history. The Lottery's reorder of Merry Christmas tickets had a very tight timeline for delivery and also sold very quickly—within three weeks. The exceptional sales of Merry Christmas led to the ticket being featured in European Lotteries' December 2013 issue of EL Magazine.

Pollard Banknote partnered with the Lottery to breathe new life into its annual holiday game. This festive instant game featured ticket art developed and designed by Pollard Banknote and replaced the Lottery's previous holiday game, which combined an instant scratch game with a passive draw. Merry Christmas has a folded design that emulates a standard holiday card. The ticket offers traditional Christmas imagery on the front, such as holly berries, evergreen branches, Christmas balls and bows, and a fun, bright winter scene with animals on the inside play area. Players also enjoy the high entertainment value of 25 scratch areas and a broad variety of festive play symbols such as presents, candy canes, sleighs, and snowflakes.

"The demand for our Merry Christmas ticket exceeded our expectations," explained Marios Constantinou, Chief Administrator of the Cyprus Government Lottery. "The re-order was sold out by December 16, and I am sure we could have sold a third order by the end of 2013!"

In 2010, the Cyprus Government Lottery awarded Pollard Banknote an exclusive two-year contract and has exercised the option of two additional one-year renewals. Under this contract, Pollard Banknote supplies instant scratch tickets, including game design, ticket production, marketing support and strategic planning.

"Pollard Banknote congratulates the Cyprus Government Lottery on setting a new sales record with its Merry Christmas ticket," said Doug Pollard, Co-Chief Executive Officer, Pollard Banknote. "Over the last few years, we have developed a strong relationship with the Lottery and a solid understanding of the Cyprus market. The success of this game exemplifies Pollard Banknote's ability to introduce a new sales-driving ticket concept—such as the holiday card format—and complement it with refreshing artwork."

The Cyprus Government Lottery was established shortly after the Independence of Cyprus in 1960 and entered the instant ticket market in 1979. The Lottery operates in accordance with the Cyprus Government Lotteries Law and Regulations. Net profit from Lottery operations is transferred into the Consolidated Fund of the Government of Cyprus, from which the government budget is financed.

La Française des Jeux Sets €1bn Revenue Target

FRANCE (January 6, 2014) -- French gaming operator La Française des Jeux (FDJ) has set a five-year target to generate annual online revenue in excess of €1bn, after revealing a 6 per cent increase in online sales in its full year results for 2013.

Total sales of €12.4bn represented a 2 per cent year-on-year rise from 2012’s takings, with 96.7 per cent of earnings coming from the operator’s retail network.

Online sales stood at €410m, with online lottery sales comprising €334m of the total.

FDJ has recorded sales of €12.35 billion in 2013, compared to €12.14 billion in 2012, an increase of 1.8%. Sales in the physical network (96.7% of sales) grew at a rate close (+1.7%), growth has been on the web for its stronger (+5.5% to €410 million).

2013 results reflect the strength of a game model involving 27.1 million French. The pillars of this team play are proximity, embodied by 33,400 retailers in the French Games, and consistency of principles on which the success of the National Lottery has been based for 80 years: responsible innovation, equality before the luck and redistribution.

A game model that benefits all parties involved - redistribution for the benefit of players, retailers and the community accounted for over 95% of bets. The total earnings of the players recorded a further increase (+2.5% vs 2012 and €200 million), reaching €8.07 billion, or 65.4% of housing (compared to 64.9% in 2012).

Contribution to the general interest exceeds €3 billion, including € 230 million for the benefit of sport for all. Income made to local network totalled €621 million, up 5.7% compared to 2012 (ie 8.4% per point of sale). Popular brands that attracted 27.1 million Players.

The French have adopted a pragmatic consumption in 2013. The number of players has increased from 26,300,000 in 2012 to 27,100,000 in 2013. Average weekly bet is slightly lower: € 8.8 compared to €8.9 in 2012. Due to the increase in earnings of 2.5%, higher than the increase being 1.8%, the cost of players is 3 € per week, down 2.6%. Games accessible to all who combine tradition and new players have turned to the tradition rooted in their game brands, as evidenced by the stability of the LOTO ® (once again the second game FDJ), to games, scratch and simple provided attractive, as illustrated by the success of the illiko ® range launched in 2012 (whose leader Cash game is the first game FDJ), and accessible to a wide public sports paris (bet at odds ParionsSport becomes the fourth game FDJ). Housing lottery games reached 10.70 billion € sales (86.7% of sales), stable compared to 2012, despite the small number of exceptional events: 2 vs 3 Fridays 13 in 2012, no dates symbolic as 12-12-12, no long cycle Euro Millions in 2013 vs. 3 in 2012.

Sports Lottery Attractive and Simple

Sports Paris, driven by an animated news, exceeded sales of € 1.65 billion (13.3% of sales), an increase of 14.4% compared to 2012, mainly in the network (95.4% of sales). This offer has attracted more than French (+700 000 players) without their average bet will increase (down 10%). This illustrates the success of a range of sports paris accessible and modern, ten years after the introduction in France FDJ of paris product by side and the redesign of pari-mutuel sports (Loto Foot) that followed (the creation of sports lottery dating back to 1985).

A Committed And Responsible Operator

The year 2013 was also marked by a strengthening of the Corporate Social Responsibility Company restructured around five strategic axes and about fifty of action plans. "Responsible Gambling" always occupies center stage, whether accompanying a recreational practice of gambling, prevention of underage gambling or training retailers. Rates of employment for persons with disabilities in the FDJ this year reached 6.5%.

Budget JDF Foundation was doubled on the occasion of its 20th anniversary and its new five-year (€ 18 million over 5 years) .

FDJ is especially become one of the 1st all partners of the French Red Cross. Again renewing its partnership with the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF) FDJ has integrated a component and Societal Integrity in all its sports partnerships (LFP FFHB, FFBB, FFR).

FDJ Foundation contributes, for example, the "Supporters of employment" operation initiated by the LFP and all the professional football clubs. Evaluation of the CSR policy of the company by the agency Vigéo showed a large increase in extra-financial rating (76/100 versus 69/100 in 2011), highest rating assigned to a requested French company Vigéo. Perspectives On the occasion of 10 years of Euro Millions in 2014 FDJ revives the spirit of the National Lottery in launching, with effect from 1 February 2014, "My Million."

This set of complementary Euro Millions draw, reserved exclusively for France, guarantee 2 millionaires per week, one for each draw on Tuesday and Friday, from players to France in Euro Millions. Cup World Cup 12 June to 13 July will surely enliven the range of sports paris and generate interest from new bettors. The year 2013 was marked by the adoption by the Board of Directors Strategic Plan 2013-2018 FDJ which, in accordance with the model of consumer and responsible gaming, plans to strengthen its proximity to the French, the further development of digital FDJ with the ambition to meet the increasing digitization of French and target to increase sales at least €1 billion, launching innovative as well as international valuation expertise of the Group games.

WestLotto Looks Back on a Successful 2013!

Players Embrace the New Year with Riches Thanks to German Lotteries

Around one in 10 NRW major winners became a millionaire

MÜNSTER, Germany (January 3, 2014) -- WestLotto looks back on a successful 2013! Purely mathematically the data can reveal that a lottery winner emerged every 17 days, for 23 Lotto millionaires in NRW have been produced this year.

But this is not all: For, in North Rhine-Westphalia could at least 237 lottery players are looking for a profit of at least €100,000. This means that on average about every 37 hours (8760 hours a year) North Rhine-Westphalia was able to improve his account to a six-figure sum.

41.5 million euros went to the Bergische Land

The highest rate, the WestLotto has ever paid to a Player, was "handed over" this year and went into the Bergische Land: On July 19, a Euro Jackpot player claimed all 41.5 million euros and asked, of course, for absolute discretion.

The second and third place of the peak gain went in 2013 to the region of Oberhausen and after East Westphalia. There are two LOTTO 6aus49 tipster players that can be happy with 24.1 million or 20.9 million euros.

But not only by Euro Jackpot and the classic LOTTO 6aus49 saw new millionaires "born," the additional lottery game 77 has spoiled this year a particularly large NRW-Tipper with big prize money. Six times was this additional lottery is a game player a millionaire. The highest amount was recovered in 2013 in NRW at play 77, went in February in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein. There a WestLotto customer received exactly 6,277,777 euros.

Which region had the most luck?

Luck in 2013 prompted players with enthusiasm. Even six-figure sums delighted many game players. Luck is almost uniformly distributed: The Rhineland and Westphalia comes to 124 113 large winners. The Ruhr occupied with 57 wins from 100,000 euros the top spot in NRW. Closely followed was the classic Rhineland (from Dusseldorf to Bonn behind) with 39 large gains in second place and East Westphalia with 32 major winners.

The Bergisch land can at least post 27 satisfied lottery players.

Munsterland can boast with 25 and the winning / Sauerland follow with 23 major winners. Finally, the Aachen / Eifel region and the Lower Rhine come with 17 game players who have won at least 100,000 euros. Other large gains accounted for so-called lottery shares with participants from throughout NRW.

Lottery players from the premises Dusseldorf and Essen had the best number sense.

The best feeling for the right lottery numbers had 2013 inhabitants from the space Dusseldorf and Essen. (From € 100,000) was 11 times, a large gain in these regions. The square is 2 divided by 9 luckiest Aachen, Bielefeld, the märkische district and the district of Mettmann.

"2013 was an eventful year for WestLotto., Not only by the NRW-peak gain of 41.5 million euros, but of course also by the changes that have occurred in May at LOTTO 6aus49. It's great to see that the lottery players continue as have lots of fun in our products and we are pleased that we were able to bless so many people in 2013 in NRW with numerous gains," said WestLotto spokesman Axel Weber, the statistic in 2013.

Norsk Tipping Looks to Retain Its Socially Responsible Status in 2014

Article By: Torbjørn Almlid

HAMAR, Norway (January 2, 2014) -- For most of us, the first preparation for the new year is to reflect on what has happened in the old year. Norsk Tipping is no exception in this respect. And it's a nice flashback the company can look back on for the past year.

2013 was economically the second best year ever for the company, surpassed only by "the jackpot year" of 2012.

From 2009 until today, the company's operating profit increased by 700 million. (to 3850 million in 2013 ) and in 2014, we plan to provide 4,100 million to good social purpose, which is more than ever.

Norsk Tipping is owned by the state, and it is Parliament that decides how profits are distributed. Every penny of its profits go to charitable causes, sports, culture and voluntary organizations.

Through Grassroots schemes, players can even give 5 percent of the efforts of a sports team or an organization they want to support a little extra. This scheme provides for 340 million for activities in the community in every corner of the country.

All profits from gambling revenue go directly to good causes and not to the Minister of Finance and very few countries have that practice. That single player can give money directly to their local club or association is Norway alone.

Schafer Systems Inc.

In 2012, the Norsk Tipping was listed as the second best contributor of gaming companies in Europe to produce profits to good causes as measured. The contribution was barely beaten by Finland, but far ahead of both Denmark and Sweden. This is a position that Norway and Norsk Tipping want to keep in 2013.

Proceeds from the Norwegian Tipping helps to finance everything from Norwegian gullmedaljehåp in Sochi to rescue craft and cultural experiences in nursing homes. Pretty much everything that is of volunteering in Norway is a beneficiary of this surplus. There is therefore no reason to be surprised that politicians, journalists and NGOs are focusing on how big the check from the Norwegian Tipping becomes at the year's end.

Nevertheless,, creating a maximum possible profit is not NorskTippings most important social mission. It is to prevent gambling becoming a problem for the individual and for society. The money will be a side effect of our business, not the main goal.

Such social goals are easy to lose sight of for both gaming companies, beneficiaries and politicians. In Sweden it blows now a veritable media storm surrounding the privately owned Post Code Lottery because of their aggressive sales methods. The European Commission has sent critical questions to the Swedish government because the Commission believes Sweden's game policy does not safeguard social concerns as intended.

There is less than ten years since Norway had a formidable gambling problem caused by readily available and aggressive slots. In 2007, Norwegians played for 27 billion on these machines. This market is now regulated and controlled by Norsk Tipping and turnover reduced by 75 percent. Play Problems Caused by machines are now virtually non- existent in Norway, while there is a growing problem in the rest of Europe.

The Government has announced a review of the gaming policy in Norway. This is a review that Norsk Tipping welcomes. Such a review will hopefully generate debate about what kind of marketing scheme will most effectively prevent problem gambling. Likewise, what game market will offer the most money for social purposes while protecting the individual. Norsk Tipping should be a vehicle to meet government targets for gaming policy, not an end in itself. The company has set a goal to be the best in Europe to create profits for good causes and be a global leader in preventing gambling problems. We're looking forward to be measured.

Players can also play Health Bingo on their mobiles and mini mobile slot games will be available in the near future.

Howzat for National Lottery funding?

LONDON, U.K. (January 2, 2014) -- The National Lottery has released a light-hearted cricket scoreboard image to celebrate its funding to cricket of over £100 million.

The image is released  on Day 2 of ‘Just Imagine’, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the massive impact that £31 billion in project funding has had across the UK since the first National Lottery draw 20 years ago this year.

The scoreboard’s vital statistics include the total National Lottery good cause funding given to cricket-related projects, currently standing at a massive £104 million.  If that’s not enough to bowl you over, other figures include the total number of beneficiaries, with 4,566 National Lottery grants having been netted by cricket clubs up and down the country.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has also benefitted from grants totalling £13.1 million to boost the development of young cricketers.  As England’s cricketers work hard for improved fortunes on the current Ashes tour, this should at least put a smile on any cricket fan’s face.

Released on Twitter (@lottogoodcauses #JustImagine) and Facebook today, the scroreboard is the second in a series of 31 items to feature through January – one for each day and each £1 billion.

For anyone wanting to find out more about funded projects in their area, the National Lottery has launched a ‘Good Cause Finder".

About National Lottery ‘Just Imagine’

A range of imagery, video and animation is being released on www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk for ‘Just Imagine’, an innovative digital and social media campaign that is using a range of techniques to encourage the public to consider an alternative reality of what might have been if the National Lottery had not funded £31 billion across more than 420,000 arts, sport, heritage and voluntary projects across the UK.  The first phase of the campaign sees 31 items released daily through January – one for each day of the month and each £1 billion of funding.

The campaign will run through the first four months of the year, with further phases including an original animation movie telling the story of funding, and other “positively disruptive” digital techniques, according to a National Lottery spokesperson.
