GTECH and The Colorado Lottery Sign Lottery Gaming System and Services Contract

Represents GTECH’s 26th Lottery Jurisdiction in the U.S.

ROME, ITALY and PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (January 20, 2014) – GTECH S.p.A. announced that its subsidiary GTECH Corporation has signed a lottery gaming system and services contract with the Colorado Lottery to provide a full range of lottery products and ongoing services commencing on November 2, 2014 through June 30, 2021.  The contract, which follows a competitive procurement, has a maximum of two, two-year extensions which may be exercised in whole or in part at the discretion of the Lottery. GTECH expects to receive approximately $70 million in revenues over the base term.

This contract is important to GTECH as it allows us to re-establish a relationship with the Colorado Lottery which dates back to 1988 when we first brought the Lottery online,” said GTECH Americas President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel.  “We have conducted comprehensive retailer and consumer research studies in Colorado to gain a better understanding of the marketplace today, and in the future.  GTECH looks forward to upgrading the Colorado Lottery’s operating systems and its retailers with our latest technology, product solutions, and games necessary to support the Lottery’s next phase of growth.”

Under the contract, GTECH will provide the Colorado Lottery with expandable technology, a flexible set of retail solutions, and data-driven, decision-making tools to help increase revenues to the State of Colorado. The Company will provide its Enterprise Series (ES) central system solution to support all levels of the Lottery’s sales growth. The contract also calls for the replacement of the Lottery’s existing terminal base with 3,200 new Altura® GT1200 full-functioning terminals. 

Additionally, GTECH will introduce ES MultiMedia digital advertising displays to stimulate increased brand awareness, winner awareness, and player recognition of jackpots and game activities, directly at the point-of-sale. GTECH’s self-service ticket checkers, Ticket-Scan®, will allow Colorado players secure access when identifying winning tickets.  In addition, GTECH will provide 600 Gemini® self-service lottery product vending machines as well as an IP-communications network.

The Colorado Lottery also has the option to purchase additional products and services over the contract term.  GTECH will operate from its primary data center in Pueblo, Colorado, with a backup data center in Austin, Texas.  Ongoing services include operation and maintenance of the ES central system and communications network; terminal maintenance; retailer training; field services; and hotline management.

MDI Reaches Interactive Milestone with Launch of 500th Website

ALPHARETTA, Georgia (January 22, 2014) -- MDI Entertainment, LLC, a subsidiary of Scientific Games Corporation (Nasdaq: SGMS), announced today the launch of its 500th website designed and developed for a lottery customer.  The website was created in conjunction with MDI’s MONOPOLY™ Jackpot game, launched December 3rd by the Arizona Lottery. Pollard Banknote Named Primary Instant Ticket Supplier For The Vermont Lottery Commission

2013 Was a Lucky Year for Swiss Lotto and Euro Millions Players

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (January 16, 2014) -- 2013 was full of excitement for players of lottery games in Switzerland. Indeed, Loterie Romande and Swisslos enabled 30 players of Swiss Lotto and Euro Millions to become millionaires. During the just- completed year, luck smiled on players with the right combination of Swiss Lotto 26 times, and more than 20 million francs big gains were won.

The Euro Million, for its part, celebrated the biggest Swiss gain in the history of the game: 115.5 million francs. The winning table was validated in the canton of Valais in August.

Swiss Lotto: the new formula keeps its promises

In 2013 26 Swiss Lotto players became millionaires. Indeed, two people have won a seven-figure amount through the "Joker ".

Launched January 10, 2013 at the national level, the new formula of the Swiss Lotto therefore lived up to all its promises! It offers a share larger jackpots and, secondly , through the second gain which saves a million francs , it is more millionaires. Thus, all winnings in 2013 by Swiss Lotto players are amounts to more than 211 million francs. Recall that the Swiss Lotto has, since its inception in 1970 made 788 millionaires.

The record gain of 115.5 million won in Switzerland in Euro Millions

A very lucky player became a Swiss multimillionaire by pocketing last August  the record jackpot of 115.5 million francs, the winning grid has been validated in the canton Valais. In addition, three other Helvetian saw their account credited multimillion francs. Note that since the game in 2004, Euro Millions has 38 players that have become millionaires in Switzerland. With its record jackpot, the new "champion Swiss " enters the top 20 European jackpots. Recall that the largest gain the history of Euro Millions CHF 228 million , was won in 2012 in Great Britain.

‘Plus FIREBALL # Now Drawn with Every Illinois Lottery Pick 3 and Pick 4 Game

Game Update begins Sunday, January 19

CHICAGO, Illinois (January 17, 2014) -- On January 19, the Illinois Lottery will update the add-on feature called plus FIREBALL so that a numbered plus FIREBALL is drawn as part of every Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawing. This change will improve a player’s chance to win a prize and will give players the chance to turn non-winning tickets into winners. The Pick 3 and Pick 4 base games and prizes will remain the same, as will the drawing schedule (seven days a week, twice a day) and ticket prices (start at 50 cents). 

How it Works:

  • A plus FIREBALL drawing is held along with each Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawing. For each plus FIREBALL drawing, one ball is selected, from a pool of balls numbered 0-9.
  • The plus FIREBALL will now always be drawn only from a pool of numbered balls (previously, unnumbered balls were part of each drawing).
  • Prize amounts for plus FIREBALL have been adjusted to accommodate this change.
  • When a plus FIREBALL is drawn, the number on that ball can replace any one of the numbers drawn in the Pick 3 or Pick 4 drawing to make one or more winning plus FIREBALL combinations.
  • Plus FIREBALL was added on to Pick 3 and Pick 4 this past September as a new play option to provide players a chance to obtain more winning number combinations.

 

 

 

 

The winning numbers will be displayed on the Illinois Lottery website (www.illinoislottery.com) and the drawings will continue to take place at 12:40 p.m. and 9:22 p.m. Overall odds of winning a Pick 3 or Pick 4 prize vary based on the type of wager.

Picklive to Partner Sugal & Damani Group in Joint Venture

LONDON, U.K. (January 21, 2014) -- Fantasy sports and social gaming operator Picklive Limited has entered into an investment deal and joint venture with Indian lottery distributor and operator Sugal & Damani Group (SND) to launch daily fantasy cricket games for real-money prizes in the country.

The new fantasy cricket game will be based on Picklive’s current UK-based football product to offer a real time and social second screen gaming experience.

Both firms said that the deal has wider implications with the aim of creating India’s first multi-product skill gaming platform.

In addition, SND has also opted to invest in Picklive through the operator’s Skill Infra Solutions BV subsidiary. Nitesh Damani, SND director, will take a seat on the Picklive board on behalf of the Indian firm.

We have been following Picklive’s development for some time and were impressed with their product and vision of changing the landscape of sports gaming,” he said.

They now have a live UK product, a joint venture in the US with Sportech and an Indian joint venture coming soon. With strong local partners and a rapidly changing global gaming market we believe Picklive has a unique opportunity to build a global product and brand.”

More Winnings for FDJ Players on Equivalent Gaming Expenditure (GGR)* to 2012

FRANCE (January 17, 2014) --

  • FDJ: responsible games for the benefit of all
  • 27.1 million Players (+ 800,000) with average stakes of €8.8 per week (down 1.2%)
  • €12.35 billion in stakes collected (+1.8%)
  • €8.07 billion of prizes paid (+2.5%)

  • €3 billion in contributions to the public interest

 

FRANCE (January 16, 2014) -- La Française des Jeux (FDJ) recorded a 1.8% increase in stakes collected in 2013, up to €12.35 billion from €12.14 billion in 2012. Sales in the physical network (96.7% of total sales) rose at a similar level (1.7%) while Internet sales grew at a faster pace, up by 5.5% to €410 million.

FDJ’s 2013 results reflect the strength of a gaming model that continues to attract the French public, with 27.1 million players. The main pillars of this public gaming model continue to be its local presence, through 33,400 retailers, and the constant principles that have underpinned its success over the past 80 years: responsible innovation, an equal chance for all and redistribution.

A gaming model that benefits all stakeholders

Redistribution to players, retailers and the community accounted for more than 95% of stakes collected. Winnings paid out to players once again increased, up by 2.5%, i.e. €200 million more than in 2012, reaching a total of €8.07 billion or 65.4% of stakes collected compared with 64.9% in 2012. Contributions to the public interest exceeded €3 billion, of which €230 million in favour of sport for all. Revenues distributed to local retailers amounted to €621 million, 5.7% more than in 2012 corresponding to an increase of 8.4% per point of sale.

Popular brands enjoyed by 27.1 million players

French players took a pragmatic approach to gaming in 2013. The number of players increased from 26.3 million in 2012 to 27.1 million in 2013 while the average weekly stake declined slightly, down from €8.9 in 2012 to €8.8 in 2013. Given a stronger increase in winnings (2.5%) than in stakes (1.8%), gaming expense per player was down by 2.6% to €3 a week.

Games combining tradition and new features, accessible to all

Players focused on games rooted in gaming tradition as can be seen by the stable performance of the LOTO® (which moved back to second place in FDJ’s games), with a particular focus on scratch cards, which are simple but appealing as can be seen from the success of the illiko® range launched in 2012 (of which the leading game Cash remains FDJ’s number one game), and on sports betting for the general public (the ParionsSport betting game is now the fourth most popular game). Lottery stakes collected totalled €10.70 billion (86.7% of sales), stable relative to 2012 despite the small number of exceptional events: two Fridays on the 13th versus three in 2012, no symbolic dates such as 12-12-12 and no lengthy Euro Millions cycle in 2013 compared with three in 2012.

Accessible sports betting

Sports betting, boosted by an eventful year, exceeded €1.65 billion in sales (13.3% of total sales), up by 14.4% compared with 2012, mainly through the retail network (95.4% of sales). This offer appealed to a greater number of players, 700,000 more, while average stakes decreased by 10%. This trend shows the success of an accessible and modern sports betting offer, ten years after FDJ introduced fixed-odds betting in France and subsequently overhauled its sports pools offer, Loto Foot (the original sports Loto had been created in 1985).

A Responsible And Committed Operator

2013 also featured a strengthening of FDJ’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy, which was restructured around five strategic directions and close to 50 action plans.

Responsible gaming” continues to be the central theme, whether in terms of support for recreational gaming, prevention of underage gaming and training of retailers.

The percentage of disabled workers employed by FDJ reached 6.5% in 2013.

The budget allocated to the FDJ Foundation was doubled on the occasion of its 20th anniversary and the start of a new five-year period (€18 million over five years). In particular, FDJ has become one of the leading partners of the French Red Cross. FDJ also renewed its partnership with the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF), and introduced an Integrity and Social component into all its sports partnerships (LFP, FFHB, FFBB and FFR). The FDJ Foundation contributes, for instance, to the “Supporters de l’emploi” jobs support initiative launched by LFP and all the professional football clubs.

Vigéo’s assessment of the group’s CSR policy resulted in a strong improvement in its extra-financial rating, which was raised to 76/100 versus 69/100 in 2011, the strongest rating assigned to a French company by Vigéo.

(January 21, 2014) -- The New York State Gaming Commission has awarded Camelot Global Services a contract to conduct market research in relation to alternative approaches for the future of the Lottery in New York State. The study will provide valuable insights into the market and provide a five year business plan to ensure the growth of future returns to Education.

The New York Lottery had annual sales of over $7.1 billion in FY 2012-13. The highest producing lottery in the United States, the Lottery drove over $2.17 billion in aid to education to the State in FY 2012-13.

New York State is already in the business of gambling with nine video lottery facilities, five tribal class III casinos, and three tribal class II facilities and New York has more electronic gaming machines than any state in the Northeast or Mideast.

Since 1967, the New York Lottery has adapted to change. However the Lottery is now faced with increased competition for discretionary spend from casinos, and needs to review its strategy to ensure is remains a relevant gaming option and more importantly a source of funding for State aid to education.

Lotto24 AG Records Strong Growth in Billings and Revenue, Stable Development of Gross Margin and New Customers

HAMBURG, Germany (January 21, 2014) -- According to preliminary figures, Lotto24 AG achieved billings of almost EUR 30.5 million (prior year: EUR 1.1 million) in its fiscal year 2013, of which around EUR 14.2 million was generated in the fourth quarter of 2013 (previous quarter: EUR 9.0 million). With revenues of around EUR 2.7 million in 2013 as a whole (prior year: EUR 93 thousand), of which approximately EUR 1.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2013 (previous quarter: EUR 0.8 million), the gross margin for both the full year and the fourth quarter of 2013 amounted to 8.9%.

At around 74 thousand, the number of newly registered customers in the fourth quarter of 2013 was slightly up on the preceding quarter (71 thousand) and thus raised the number of new customer registrations in 2013 as a whole to around 213 thousand (prior year: 30 thousand).

The total number of registered customers amounted to approximately 242 thousand as of 31 December 2013 (prior year: 30 thousand). Marketing expenditure was around EUR 2.6 million in the fourth quarter (previous quarter: EUR 2.8 million) and around EUR 7.3 million for 2013 as a whole (prior year: EUR 266 thousand). This resulted in a cost per lead (CPL) of EUR 35.4 for the fourth quarter and EUR 34.6 for 2013. The decision not to increase marketing expenditure in the fourth quarter of 2013 - a relatively expensive advertising period - and in particular to restrict the use of TV commercials was a deliberate decision based on a cost-benefit analysis in favour of CPL.

According to preliminary calculations, the result from operating activities (EBIT) amounted to almost EUR -11.4 million (prior year: EUR -4.3 million), while net profit for the period was around EUR -8.8 million (prior year: EUR -3.1 million). The development of earnings is in line with the stated strategy of Lotto24 AG to quickly extend its position as Germany's leading online broker of lottery products by making significant investments in marketing.

The Annual Report 2013 is to be published on March 27, 2014.

Tennessee Lottery Marks Major Milestone with 10th Anniversary

Strong 2nd Quarter Continues Run of Record-Breaking Sales; Total Education Funding Since Inception Now Exceeds $2.91 Billion

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (January 22, 2014) -- Announcing another record quarter and the current total of more than $2.91 billion raised for education-related programs, the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation today marked the 10th anniversary of the first day of  lottery ticket sales in Tennessee.

The Corporation celebrated this milestone anniversary with a short program at the Lottery’s Nashville headquarters, where officials unveiled a new logo, honoured retailer partners with a Board Resolution, and launched a series of TV spots paying tribute to the HOPE Scholars who have benefitted from the Lottery’s record breaking performance.

For 10 years now, the Lottery has enjoyed fantastic support from Tennesseans throughout the state, which explains our solid and consistent gains year after year,” said Rebecca Hargrove, Lottery President and CEO. “Be it from our many players, our network of 5,000 retailers, or the legion of scholarship recipients and their families, the response to the Lottery from the first day has been overwhelming. As we enter the next decade, we’re dedicated to making sure the years ahead prove just as fun for our players and as productive for the good causes we serve.”

The Lottery continued its strong performance with a new record set for second quarter sales and proceeds for education. In this time period alone, Oct. 1, 2013 through Dec. 31, 2013, the Lottery posted $85 million raised for state education programs and an impressive $352.7 million in sales, a jump of $19.7 million or 5.9%, from the same period last year.

On track for a 10th consecutive year of sales growth, the Lottery’s sales for the first half of

FY 2014 now stand at $691.1 million—6.9% ahead of the same period last year.

While the Lottery reports on a fiscal year basis, here are some details about the Lottery’s first 10 years (Jan. 20, 2004 through Jan. 19, 2014):

  • More than $2.91 billion raised for education
  • More than $11.2 billion in gross ticket sales
  • Nearly $6.8 billion in prizes won by players
  • More than $733 million paid in retailer commissions.
  • 131 winning tickets worth $1 million or more, including the recent $61 million Mega Millions jackpot won by a Nashville resident

 

Apart from these ten year figures, the Tennessee Lottery’s strong performance is reflected in industry comparisons. These include:

  • A record-setting nine years of consecutive sales growth from inception, unprecedented among U.S. lotteries.
  • 1st among U.S lotteries for compounded annual growth in sales over last six years.
  • Through FY 2013, Gross Sales increased an average of 6.3% annually since FY 2005. This compares to an overall industry growth of 3.6% during that same time period.  Exceeding the industry growth rate in this fashion has resulted in over $ 250.9 million in additional sales for the Lottery.
  • Through FY 2013, Total Education Funding increased an average of 5.0% annually since FY 2005. This compares to an overall industry growth of 2.6% during that same time period.  Exceeding the industry growth in this fashion has resulted in over $52.3 million in additional funding for Tennessee education programs.
  • From FY 2005 through FY 2013, Lottery operating expenses (that is, all costs other than prizes, retailer commissions and major gaming vendors’ fees) have remained relatively flat, averaging only 2.8 %  of gross sales.

 

According to the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation, the organization that oversees the Lottery-funded higher education programs, Lottery funds were used to assist approximately 103,000 students at higher education institutions in the state during the past academic year, bringing the total since inception to over 800,000. Lottery funds were also used to support after-school programs and an initiative designed to make schools more energy-efficient.

The relevant agreement was signed today at the Warsaw Sports stadium, Lottery CEO Wojciech Spielman, and the President of the Polish Olympic Committee Andrzej Kraśnicki attended.
