GTECH Provides Update on Recent Developments

ROME (Italy) – PROVIDENCE (Rhode Island), (June 16, 2014) -- GTECH S.p.A. today announced that it is engaged in preliminary, exploratory discussions as part of a process regarding a potential transaction with International Game Technology, (IGT: NYSE).

GTECH has engaged advisors to assist it in exploring this potential transaction. 

This transaction could potentially involve the use of a mix of cash and equity as consideration. However, the Company does not anticipate that a capital increase for cash will be required.

There can be no assurance that any binding agreement or transaction will result from these discussions.

Gaming Laboratories International Expands Staff, Business in Australia

Camelot Global to Offer iLottery Channel Management Services

Florida Lottery Announce Multi-Tiered Strategy to Ensure Integrity Above All

Sign Your Ticket Consumer Awareness Campaign Launching Statewide

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (June 13, 2014) -- The Florida Lottery is an industry leader, recognized for the integrity and transparency of its games. Today, the Florida Lottery stresses its commitment to ensuring retailer integrity and player protection at every level by launching a comprehensive effort that includes a statewide consumer awareness campaign called "Sign Your Ticket," enhanced retailer monitoring, and stronger protections for consumers at the retail level.

"Maintaining the integrity of the Florida Lottery and the trust of those who play our games is our top priority," said Cynthia O'Connell, Secretary of the Florida Lottery. "We believe that any incident of theft is one too many, and we are taking significant steps to discourage illegal or unethical activity."

The program has three main components:

1)  Sign Your Ticket

Sign Your Ticket is a public awareness campaign designed to educate the public about the importance of signing their lottery tickets immediately, every one, every time. Signing a ticket upon purchase prevents anyone else from claiming a prize won on the ticket. The Sign Your Ticket requirement is a player protection mechanism that has been in place since the Lottery¿s inception, but public adoption can be increased, thereby protecting more consumers. The following are key components of this campaign:

The campaign is currently featured on our website in the Integrity section at: www.flalottery.com

Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will begin airing on statewide television and radio this month.

Signage will begin appearing in stores immediately and will roll out over the next several weeks.

This campaign is being further strengthened over the next year with increased messaging on the tickets themselves. For example, beginning in July, all new scratch off games will have ‘Sign Your Ticket’ instructions, as will all other games moving forward.

The Florida Lottery encourages players to protect themselves and their tickets in other ways, such as: checking their own ticket to see if it's a winner, watching the monitor while the ticket is being validated at a retailer, and asking for a receipt. Lastly, if there is a question about the ticket being a winner or the prize amount won, players should ask for the original ticket back and contact the Florida Lottery Customer Service Office at (850) 487-7787.

2) Enhanced Retailer Monitoring

The Florida Lottery has increased its investigations of suspicious retailers. This increased effort has identified 96 retailers statewide who are frequent winners. They will be investigated over the next 60 days. In addition to those 96 retailers, we have been conducting regular retailer integrity investigations (stings) as part of a program that dates back to 2009. Specifically, the Lottery is making the following changes to the program:

Enhanced internal analytics of our database of winners has improved our ability to identify anomalies and spot suspicious or criminal activity.

Retailers caught acting improperly will be suspended or terminated permanently, losing their ability to sell Lottery tickets.

If retailers are caught committing a crime, we will pursue their arrest and prosecution, supported by our partners in law enforcement and local state attorneys.

Enhanced, formal agreements with other state law enforcement agencies will better align our organizations, allowing us to share information, identify criminal activity, and investigate retailers.

To date, in 2014, we have terminated 26 retailers and suspended an additional 23. Twenty of these terminations and suspensions have been related to ticket theft or improper ticket payment issues.

3) Stronger Consumer Protections

Lastly, we are working to limit retailer theft of tickets at the store level by improving technology, strengthening our policies and procedures, and educating retailers. These efforts include:

Continuing to add self-validating ticket machines to retail locations. Currently, more than half of all retailers have these machines. Last year, we added the ability for players to scan scratch-off tickets. Additional enhancements will be announced soon.

Re-educating retailers about all further changes to the Lottery rules and procedures.

Regularly releasing the names of retailers who have been suspended and terminated to the public and to other retailers.

The Lottery's retailers are integral partners in helping the agency generate more than $26 billion dollars for Florida's students and schools over the past 26 years. The issues that we are addressing affect a fraction of a percentage of our 13,000 retailers that may have acted improperly or committed a crime. It would be unfair to characterize the vast majority of honest retailers due to the actions of a few. However, we feel strongly that any incident of theft is one too many, and we are taking significant steps within our organization to reduce this activity. Over the coming months, the Lottery will provide updates to this plan, and continue to work with its stakeholders to make improvements. We believe these changes will help to limit ticket theft and further protect our players.

GLEBE ISLAND, Sydney (June 17, 2014) -- Every year since 1990, the Australasian Gaming Expo has attracted top gaming and hospitality industry executives.   This year’s 25th Gaming Expo moves to the new Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island with more space, more features and more exhibitors.

There’s been more interest than ever this year, with 26 first-time exhibitors.  They’ll be part of a project where over 750 poker machines and a hundreds of truckloads of signage and equipment is moved in to Glebe Island, installed, connected, tested, used and compared by the most demanding critics and then moved out again – all in only a few days.  The logistics of the event are amazing, even by exhibition industry standards.  But paramount in all this is the safety of all the people involved – whether stand builders, exhibitors, visitors or venue staff.  In particular, all stand builders hold safety accreditation and all contractors and exhibitors undertake a safety induction before they’re allowed to start work onsite.

More than 160 companies have signed up for 15,600 square metres of exhibition space – which is about the size of an Australian Rules football field.   Last year well over 2,300 visitors attended each of the first two days, with more than 1,100 backing up for the third day.  They came from every Australian State and Territory, along with a big contingent from New Zealand and international guests from America, Europe and around the Asia-Pacific region.

And the Gaming Expo delivers.  99% of visitors surveyed last year saw the Expo as an opportunity to see new products and technology, while the same 99% said they saw what they wanted to see at the Expo.

The new venue will fascinate visitors, with direct Sydney Harbour water frontage on three sides and captivating views of the Anzac Bridge and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  Getting there is easy with additional transport including complimentary ferries operating on the event days from Darling Harbour’s Convention Wharf to Glebe Island, complimentary buses from Pyrmont and from Central Station, along with a complimentary shuttle bus from the Sydney domestic airport.  Of course, taxi facilities are available at the Sydney Exhibition Centre and limited paid car parking is also available.

A range of contemporary pop-up eating spaces will be available on event days including an alfresco area.  Visitors will be invited to attend the Best Stand award presentation at 5pm on the Tuesday of the event and also a Silver Anniversary celebration at 5pm on the Wednesday.

Visitors who attend the Australasian Gaming Expo are eligible to win a trip for two to the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas – including airfares from Sydney and 5 nights at the luxurious Palazzo Venetian Resort and Casino.   One trip for two will be drawn on each day of the Gaming Expo.

Ocean County Ticket Wins $20,100,000 Pick 6 Lotto Jackpot

Lotto Jackpot Resets to $2 Million for June 19th Drawing

TRENTON, New Jersey (June 17, 2014) – The 53rd draw has proven to be lucky for the one winning ticket that matched all six numbers for last night’s Pick-6 drawing. The winning ticket from the Monday, June 16th drawing has an annuity value of $20,100,000. The winning ticket was sold at 7-Eleven #16497 (S), 524 Lacey Rd., Forked River in Ocean County. The lucky retailer will receive a bonus of $10,000 for selling the lucky ticket. As of the time of this writing, the winner(s) are unknown. The Pick-6 jackpot resets to $2 million for the next drawing which will be held on Thursday, June 19.

The winning numbers from the Monday, June 16 drawing were 03, 12, 18, 34, 35 and 42.

Hedinger reported that 22 players won $2,471 in cash prizes in the drawing for correctly picking five numbers. Another 992 players won cash prizes of $60 each for correctly matching four numbers and 19,202 players won $3.00 each for correctly matching three numbers. 

The Lottery beneficiaries have also won big from the Pick-6 game as they do with all of the Lottery games. Lottery beneficiaries will receive more than $17.6 million from the Pick-6 game sales leading up to this win. The lottery contributes a minimum of 30% of revenue to its beneficiaries. In Fiscal Year 2013, the Lottery contributed over $1 billion in support of education, school nutrition, veterans’ homes, colleges, universities and much more.

Half of Pennsylvania's Millionaire Raffle Tickets Already Sold for July 5th

MIDDLETOWN, Pennsylvania (June 16, 2014) -- Fewer than 250,000 tickets remain for the Pennsylvania Lottery’s July 5 Millionaire Raffle drawing, which offers the Lottery’s best odds for winning a million-dollar prize.

Each $20 ticket offers a 1-in-125,000 chance of winning one of the $1 million top prizes. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1-in-83.33. Millionaire Raffle’s prize levels are:

  • Four prizes of $1 million;
  • Four prizes of $100,000;
  • 100 prizes of $1,000; and
  • 5,892 prizes of $100

 

The chance to win $1 million could really put some extra fireworks into your Independence Day weekend,” said Lottery Executive Director Sil Lutkewitte. “Every previous Millionaire Raffle game sold out before the drawings, so players should be aware that only a limited number of tickets are still available.”

Tickets will be sold until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, or until sold out. The game will close after all 500,000 tickets are sold. Players should sign the back of all tickets promptly and keep them in a secure place until the drawing.

Each raffle ticket features a unique, eight-digit number issued sequentially as tickets are sold across the state. The first ticket sold on April 25 featured number 00000001, and the final raffle ticket for the game will feature number 00500000.

Loto-Québec Release 2014 Annual Report

A turnover of 3.519 billion dollars and a net profit of $ 1.144 billion

MONTREAL, Canada (June 13, 2014) - The Minister of Finance, Mr. Carlos Leitao, filed this morning at the National Assembly, the annual report of Loto-Québec for the fiscal year from April 1 to March 31, 2013 2014.

For this period, the products were of the order of 3.519 billion dollars, a decrease of 2.7% compared to the previous year. In terms of earnings, it totals $ 1.144 billion, a decrease of 10.5% from last year.

The slowdown in revenue from gambling is not unique to Loto-Québec. Everywhere in the Western world, there have been a few years a decline in spending on gambling. Thus, in his study on the consumption patterns of Canadian households, Statistics Canada reported a 1.9% decline in spending in the category of gambling for the financial year 2013-2014 compared to the previous year.

As for the decline in net profit, this is mainly due to lower revenues, but also by higher depreciation charges, primarily due to the replacement of VLTs and upgrades to the Casino de Montreal.

Significant Economic and Social Contributions

Activities of Loto-Québec generate considerable economic and social benefits. For example, winning the lottery and bingo affected lots worth $ 979 million; employee benefits totalled $ 429 million; commissions to partners lottery, casino, video lottery and bingo totalled $ 330 million; and purchases from companies doing business in Quebec represent $ 362 million in 2013-2014.

In social contributions, it is worth noting the $ 29 million earmarked for the fight against compulsive gambling; 15 million paid to non-profit organizations; the $ 19 million given to the Assistance Fund for Independent Community Action (including $ 3 million to support the International Community action); and $ 15 million vested in sponsoring a hundred events of popular flavor.

Segment Results

The lotteries showed good performance in 2013-2014, the products of 1,774 billion representing a slight decrease of 1.1%. Lotto 6/49, instant and sports paris all saw their sales increase. For their part, the online lottery sales totalled $ 16 million, against $ 7.1 million one year earlier.

The slowdown has been felt more in the casino sector, which nevertheless reported $ 797 million (-6%). The increasingly fierce and the impact of the work at the Montreal Casino and the Casino du Lac-Leamy competition are clearly reflected on the business performance of institutions. In regards to casino games online, they generated revenues of $ 26 million, which corresponds to a growth of 10.8%.

Sales of video lotteries, at $ 941 million, slightly lower than last year (-3.3%), a situation that arises from the difficult economic climate and the growing popularity of online gambling particularly on illegal sites. The good news is that the gaming Trois-Rivières and Quebec saw once more their revenues increase.

The bingo sector has managed to stabilize its performance, thanks to revenues of $ 37 million. Progression Kinzo, now present in twenty rooms, compensates for the gradual alienation of customers to the network bingo.

A Busy Year

In 2013-2014, all sectors of business have materialized projects that will bear fruit for years to come. Together with its Canadian partners, the group of lotteries put forward a renewed Lotto 6/49 version, which received a warm welcome from the public. Due to the popularity of the category of flash games, Lotto Hockey came improve the existing supply. Other innovations will emerge during the year.

On 21 November the Casino de Montreal has opened its new playground and entertainment after four years of complex work, during which the institution has continued its activities without interruption. The Casino du Lac-Leamy, too, underwent major renovations, which will result in particular the establishment of a media firm designed by Moment Factory environment. Began in September 2012, the revitalization plan is the last of its four phases.

The renewal of the fleet of nearly 12,000 VLTs available in some 2,000 bars and breweries ended in autumn 2013. Moreover, Loto-Québec has recently announced that the gaming hall Quebec relocate the next fall at Fleur de Lys shopping center, close to its current location. This allows, among other things, preserve 150 quality jobs.

Responsible Gaming, Value

Introduced there two years, the Vice-President Responsible Gaming Responsible Gaming presents as a differentiator and value-added products. In addition, the Level 4 certification - the highest - the World Lottery Association reflects the full integration of responsible gambling in the corporate culture.

Towards Greater Efficiency

The current situation (. Mature market, increased competition, challenge of renewing customers, etc.), one thing is clear: Loto-Québec will be more efficient than ever. Preparing the 2014-2017 strategic plan just involves questioning in depth in this regard. The exercise also includes a review of all methods and a process of prioritization to control even stronger expenditure.

Spain and Portugal Bring International Sporting Body on Board to Boost Focus on Sport Safety and Integrity

DOHA, Qatar (June 11, 2014 -- These first direct agreements with national authorities will see the ICSS work together with the CSD and IPDJ to explore the development of Spanish and Portuguese versions of the recently announced Sorbonne-ICSS Guiding Principles throughout Ibero-America and CPLP countries, which will include several measures for sport, government and betting operators and regulators to implement in order to combat corruption, match-fixing and betting fraud.

As part of both agreements, the CSD, IPDJ and the ICSS will develop programmes aimed at ensuring the highest ethical standards in sport, as well as sharing information, knowledge and best practice on issues relating to the integrity, safety and security of sport.

The agreements will also see the ICSS, with its team of international security and integrity experts, work closely with the CSD and IPDJ to communicate the positive values of sport and enhance gender equality, social integration and the protection of children.

To this end, they will jointly organise a range of conferences, seminars and workshops aimed at promoting sport integrity among the sport movement. These events will involve sport federations, leagues, clubs, coaches, referees and athletes and have a particular focus on young people and their role in safeguarding sport integrity.

We are in the front line of fight against doping, match-fixing and all forms of interference to sport values and that is why the Portuguese Government has launched a comprehensive and long term plan in 2012 to safeguard the integrity and the highest ethical standards in sport, called the “National Plan of Ethics in Sport” (PNED).

The announcements follow the recent Sorbonne-ICSS Sport Integrity Forum, where the outcomes of a two year study revealed the astonishing scale of the threat to sport from match-fixing and betting fraud, with an estimated US$140 billion laundered through sport betting by organised crime each year.  Significantly, several practical recommendations – the Sorbonne-ICSS Guiding Principles – emerged from the report.  These highlighted the immediate need for governments to lead the fight against corruption, whilst stressing that it is only through government action that the vulnerability of sport betting to transnational organised crime can be addressed.
