The NLCB is the exclusive lottery operator in Trinidad and Tobago, with GTECH as its sole lottery technology provider since 1993.  This is the fifth extension of the original contract to be awarded to GTECH.

Over the past four years, NLCB's total lottery sales have grown nearly 40%, mainly driven by the development and optimization of its portfolio suite of games, including new games and features, a new game matrix, and promotions for players.  In particular, the NLCB saw its instants portfolio grow by more than 50% in the past three years alone, with the introduction of new products, games, and price points,” said GTECH Americas President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel.  “Going forward, we will continue working closely with the NLCB to bring more new games and marketing initiatives to the local market to further increase sales, maximizing the NLCB’s contribution for Sports and Culture Funds.”

Under the terms of the extension, GTECH will replace the current central system with its Enterprise Series solution, specifically tailored to offer a best practices technology approach to support the NCLB’s successful business plan with the flexible tools needed to increase sales.

GTECH’s Altura® GT1200 terminals will replace the NLCB’s existing terminals and will serve to expand the retailer base from 900 to 1,200.

Massachusetts State Lottery Release $30 Scratch Ticket

“World Class Millions” features over $600 million in cash prizes, including a $15 million top prize – the largest instant win prize in Massachusetts history – and second chance opportunities to win up to $1 million!

BOSTON, Massachusetts (April 22, 2014) -- The Massachusetts Lottery today released a $30 instant “scratch” ticket that offers a whopping $15 million top prize – the largest instant win prize in the state Lottery’s history.

The new World Class Millions instant ticket features over $600 million in total prize money, including four $15 million and 36 $1 million immediate “scratch and win” prizes, as well as over 1.39 million prizes from $100 to $50,000.

Five $1 million prizes will also be awarded via the game’s exciting second-chance drawing program that allows players to enter their non-winning tickets online for opportunities to win substantial cash prizes.

With an overall prize payout of 80.7 percent, World Class Millions boasts the highest payout percentage of any game ever offered by the Massachusetts Lottery.

The chance of winning a prize in the new game is 1 in 2.81, which is also a Lottery best.

World Class Millions presents its players with a thrilling opportunity to win up to 30 times on a single ticket.

Each ticket contains 10 “Winning Numbers” and 30 “Your Numbers,” each of which contain 30 prize values. If one or more of the “Your Numbers” match the “Winning Numbers,” the player wins the corresponding amount.

There are also “2X,” “5X,” “10X,” “20X,” and “100X” symbols in the “Your Numbers” spots, which multiplies any winning combinations, as well as a burst symbol that automatically awards players with a $100 instant win.

The Massachusetts Lottery introduced the world’s first instant ticket product, a $1 ticket named The Instant Game, in May 1974 – a move that revolutionized the lottery industry and established Massachusetts as a lottery innovator. In the 40 years since, the Massachusetts Lottery has grown to be the world’s leader in instant ticket sales, generating over $3.34 billion annually.

Until today, the highest-priced scratch ticket offered in the Bay State was $20; however, the $30 game is not new to the lottery industry.

Neighbouring states, including Connecticut which introduced the nation’s first $30 ticket in 2002, and New Hampshire which first released a $30 game in 2009, as well as launched a $25 ticket last month, have long had success with higher-priced games. Several other states across the nation, including Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, have all added $30 tickets to their instant game portfolios in recent months. The Texas Lottery offers the nation’s top-priced ticket, a $50 game.

With a print run of 25.2 million tickets, sales from the new $30 World Class Millions game are expected to reach $756 million and the potential net profit that will be generated is $86.8 million.

Lottery profits are the largest source of unrestricted local aid for the 351 cities and towns across the Commonwealth.

Players can learn more about the Massachusetts Lottery’s new $30 World Class Millions instant ticket and its exciting second-chance drawings by visiting any of the 7,400 licensed retail locations across the state or by logging on to the Lottery’s website.

South Dakota Lottery to Launch Second Chance Drawing Program

PIERRE, South Dakota (April 18, 2014) -- South Dakota instant ticket players who don’t win big when first scratching off their tickets may be luckier the second time around with a new second chance drawing program being implemented by the South Dakota Lottery.

Play It Again, which launches April 23, 2014, gives Lottery Players Club members the opportunity to submit certain non-winning tickets online for second chance drawings to win cash and prizes. The drawings will be offered for specific scratch ticket games or groups of games; the first eligible game is $10K Run, a $2 scratch ticket that will be available in lottery retailers beginning April 23.

Lottery executive director Norm Lingle says players had long been asking about second chance opportunities and the Lottery is excited to be providing them through the Play It Again program.

“Many state lotteries have similar programs through their Players Clubs and have found them to be very successful for both the lottery and its patrons. Not only do they extend the life of the game but it’s an added value feature for the player, too. The chance for a winning experience doesn’t have to end just because the ticket is a non-winner initially,” Lingle said.

To participate in Play It Again, an individual must be a current Players Club member or join the free club by registering online at: http://lottery.sd.gov/players/login/.

In addition to providing basic personal information, members must also create a unique password to access the Players Club website. Once on the site, they click on Play It Again to enter numerical information from their non-winning scratch tickets to gain entry into the second chance drawing. The prizes will vary from drawing to drawing; for the initial $10K Run drawing, the top prize is $10,000. Players may enter up to 40 eligible tickets in a 24-hour period. Once the ticket information has been entered into the system, the player is not required to keep the ticket to claim the prize if randomly chosen as the drawing winner.

The grand prize winner for the first Play It Again second chance drawing will be drawn on December 18, 2014. Drawings for other prizes are expected throughout the promotion period. Information about the program and subsequent drawings will be posted at: http://lottery.sd.gov/.

Atlantic Lottery Representative Brings Social Responsibility Message to Africa

MONCTON (N.B.) (April 17, 2014) -- Kim Wilson, Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility at Atlantic Lottery recently travelled to Senegal to speak at the African Lottery Association annual conference. Kim spoke as a representative of the World Lottery Association (WLA) on the Association’s Responsible Gaming Certification Framework.

In 2006, the WLA adopted the Responsible Gaming Principles and a Responsible Gaming Framework aimed at protecting lottery players around the world. Four levels of achievement identify lotteries that have implemented responsible gaming principles into their day-to-day operations.

The purpose of the trip was to encourage African lotteries to consider the program and provide guidance for those who are ready to align their responsible gaming efforts with the WLA standard.

The response was positive,” says Kim. “There’s been a great uptake of the Framework in Canada and Europe and we’re aiming to broaden the areas where the Framework is used.”

The approach to responsible gaming varies widely across the African continent, affected by the legal system, the culture and the environment. While all African lotteries practice some form of responsible gaming, the Moroccan Lottery is currently the only one to be WLA certified.

The Framework is designed to complement and improve – not replace – the safeguards that individual lottery operators have in place. The focus for the conference was Level 2 of the Framework where a self-assessment and a gap analysis are required for certification.

The WLA Responsible Gaming Framework is a flexible solution, so you can apply the principals to your responsible gambling efforts regardless of the regional or cultural differences.” Kim notes. “We’ve encouraged African lotteries to consider the Framework and, as a start, to document their current responsible gambling efforts.”

Response has been positive with several lotteries requesting additional information and guidance.

Atlantic Lottery was one of the first lotteries in the world to be awarded the WLA Level 4 Certification in 2010 and was recertified in 2013. Atlantic Lottery is just one of three lotteries in North America to be recertified.

Atlantic Lottery is publicly owned by the four Atlantic provinces – which means that we return 100% of our profits to Atlantic Canada. For more information about our company and our philosophy of making Atlantic Canada a better place, please visit askaway.ca.

Online Gambling Operators' Mobile Businesses Currently Average 23% of Total Revenue - But Stagnation May Be Ahead

LONDON / MUNICH, (April 21, 2014) -- For more than three years now the online gambling industry has declared the mobile channel its key growth driver. However, although the mobile business is becoming more and more important, operators do not (yet) have consistent reporting standards (KPIs) regarding their mobile revenues. In its newest Online Gambling Quarterly report (Q1 2014) MECN's researchers therefore try to crack this tough nut and analyse several mobile KPIs and their development in recent years and quarters.

Mobile growth development - still difficult to benchmark

Lottery Insights December Issue
Click here for the latest electronic version of Lottery Insights.

Many online gambling operators do not (yet) have consistent reporting standards (KPIs) regarding their mobile revenues. Also not all KPIs are reported consistently by all operators for every quarter or half years. In regard to comparable benchmarks "only" two KPIs are currently usable: 1.) mobile betting stakes/revenues in % of total betting stakes/revenues and 2.) total mobile revenue in % of total revenue.

Mobile business makes currently in average 23% of total revenue

Initially, the mobile figures that were reported focused on betting stakes or revenues because operators in the past focused primarily on launching mobile betting offers. Recently, the mobile revenue generated by the casino, bingo, and poker verticals/segments has become more and more relevant. Therefore, more and more operators additionally/instead report the mobile revenue in % of total revenue across all verticals.

Our analyses of the mobile business of key online gambling operators provide the following insights:

Mobile total revenue

Mobile in % of total revenue - On average, the operators analysed generate 23% of their total online revenue via mobile channels.

Betting stakes/revenues

in % of total betting stakes/revenues - On average, the operators analysed generate 40% of their total online betting stakes/revenue via mobile channels.

Growth trends, stagnation ahead?

As figures for the mobile channels have only begun to be reported recently, it's difficult to analyse any growth trends. But it seems that at least for some companies the mobile share has begun to stagnate in recent quarters. Moreover, the year-to-year growth seems to decrease for some operators; nevertheless, growth rates above 100% still put mobile at the top of executive agendas.

Online Gambling Quarterly – Q1 2014 - Comprehensive quarterly report analysing updated benchmarks, KPIs, trends, ... covering all sectors of the online gambling industry

This quarterly report covers a wide range of topics from key company sectors, such as finance, marketing, strategy, .... Due to this extensive coverage, the report is a must-read for executives and departments of all companies active in the online gambling market.

This regular report offers unprecedented insights into the industry, including:

  • Strategic issues – Strategic topics, such as overall industry climate, trends, forecasts, stock development, ...

Maryland Lottery Expands Bet Options in Racetrax Game

BALTIMORE, Maryland (April 21, 2014) -- The Maryland Lottery is betting Racetrax fans and novice players will cheer the changes coming to the game on Monday, April 21, to give players more betting options and a play experience more like that at an actual racetrack.

This computer-animated Lottery game offers 3-D graphic animations complete with the sound of snorting horses, the call to the post and the thunder of hooves as the horses race around the track. Each race has 12 horses and lasts up to one minute, with up to five minutes between races.

Our Racetrax players asked for these changes and we are happy to give them an improved experience,” said Mike Hofferbert, Lottery director of product development. The Lottery began offering Racetrax in 2006.

The latest game changes are extensive and add six bet types: Exacta, Exacta Box, Exacta Wheel, Superfecta, Superfecta Box and Superfecta Wheel. It also cuts the cost of bets for two Trifecta options to 50 cents for the Trifecta Box option and a Trifecta Wheel bet option.

Confused about the bet types? Player information sheets are available at Lottery retailers and will be available online to explain the different type of bets, how to play the game and the cost of each type of bets. Players can still pick their own horses or let the terminal quick pick the numbers.

The revised game will offer more realistic images of horses, riders and the track. When horses cross the finish line in the revised game, players will see the images of the top four, rather than the top three horses freeze as they cross the line. Improved statistical screens and detailed payout information round out the changes. The bonus wheel will still spin before each race to give players who add the Racetrax Bonus option a chance to multiply their winnings by the number shown.

Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to Host Joint APLA & WLA Marketing Seminar

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila hotel from April 28 to May 1

MANILA, Philippines (April 21, 2014) -- The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will host the Asia-Pacific Lottery Association-World Lottery Association (APLA-WLA) joint marketing seminar at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila hotel from April 28 to May 1.

The PCSO is a member of the WLA, a global professional association of state lottery and gaming organizations from 80 countries whose members use their revenues for public good.

The organization also counts as associate members numerous companies from the worldwide supplier industry.

The APLA is one of the five regional associations of the WLA and represents 25 lotteries from 10 nations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Like most organizations of their kind, the WLA and the APLA were established to foster communication and linkages between members, and to share information and experiences in the lottery industry.

The seminar will focus on lottery sales and marketing best practices and trends. What this business needs to grow is to tap into the increasing influence of social media, and the other ways that advanced communications technology is enabling the rapid dissemination of information.

The seminar will feature interesting and knowledgeable speakers who will demonstrate how to captivate the target market, innovate to keep in step with evolving consumer tastes and engage players in continuous interaction, all in a socially responsible way.

The PCSO welcomes APLA speakers and participants as part of its involvement in the APLA-WLA and because it is keen on learning how to grow its lottery business, as well as that of its other games, in order to raise more funds for its social programs.

Lotto games and their variants are the most popular of the PCSO’s offerings, accounting for 94 percent of gross sales (P29.68 billion) in 2013.

Lotto Express, a form of Keno, was introduced some years back and is gaining in popularity. It grew by 85 percent last year and made P1.9 billion in sales, almost double its 2012 earnings of P1 billion. The number of Lotto Express outlets also increased by 87 percent to 997 outlets in 2013.

All these were achieved despite the challenges presented by external factors, including natural calamities (such as Super typhoon Yolanda) and power outages.

In 2013 the PCSO provided P3.95 billion in funds for its Individual Medical Assistance Program, which benefited 163,722 individuals.

The funds provide financial assistance for medical- and health care-related expenses, such as hospitalization, dialysis, chemotherapy drugs, laboratory procedures, and the purchase of medicines, implants, devices and others.

An additional P28.3 million was set aside for the agency’s Endowment Fund Program, which gives charity patients access to medical care, drugs, diagnostic procedures and the like; is allocated directly to 18 government and private hospitals; and is availed of by patients under established guidelines.

Also in 2013, under the Institutional Assistance Program, which received P85.12 million, 61,781 beneficiary institutions received assistance for the upgrading of health-care facilities, purchase of medical supplies and equipment, and the construction and renovation of hospitals and other health centers.

The PCSO also helped the victims of emergencies and national calamities. In 2013 the agency donated over P85 million to those affected by Yolanda, the Zamboanga crisis last September, the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Bohol and Cebu provinces last October, and the habagat (southwest monsoon). Another P800,000 went to 400 families who lost their homes to fires.

The PCSO still provides medical services to referral and walk-in patients through its Out-Patient Consultation Program at the agency’s extension office at the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City. The services include free consultation, emergency care, minor surgeries, dental services and ambulance conduction. Last year 60,184 patients were helped under this program, which received P4.62 million.

The PCSO also holds free medical-dental and special missions in local communities. In 2013 over P1.41 million was allocated for this program that helped 35,455 patients.

More than P5.63 million worth of medicines were also given out through the PCSO’s Medicine Donation Program in partnership with 480 institutions and local government units (LGUs).

Another of the PCSO’s flagship programs is the Ambulance Donation Program, under which, in 2013, 51 ambulances were given to partner LGUs; hospitals; and non-governmental, governmental, and private organizations. Another 220 requests for ambulances were approved, and the units are expected to be purchased this year.

As it celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, the PCSO renews its commitment to public service and the common good. It is especially heartwarming for us to recall this at the end of Holy Week.

Happy Easter to all, and may Jesus be risen in our hearts and minds each day as the motivation for the daily purpose in our lives.

Realistic Games Debut Mobile Pull Tab Games

Four new releases set to go live with operators

LONDON, U.K. (April 23, 2014) -- British slots and table games supplier Realistic Games has broken new ground by developing a suite of mobile Pull Tab games.

The four new additions to their expanding portfolio combine the nostalgia of this popular game genre with the latest technology, and are now available to play on smartphones.

Among the titles are Golden Koi, which blends traditional fruit machine symbols with Japanese-inspired graphics and music, and the Irish-themed Pot Luck.

They are joined by Diamonds and Rubies and Sunken Treasure, which feature precious jewel and underwater fortune themes respectively.

The four games boast a variety of features and jackpot multipliers. Their fun is centred on players pulling back the perforated ‘pull tab’ to reveal symbols and see if they’ve won.

After selecting their total bet value, they then press the start button and pull the four tabs by sliding their finger across the screen.

Alternatively, they can use the Pull All button to reveal all four lines at once, or select the relaxing Autoplay button to play 10 games on the spin.

Realistic Games’ commercial director, Andy Harris, said: “Pull Tabs are great little games and it’s been a lot of fun bringing them back to life with the technologies that are available these days.

We’re confident players are going to enjoy them and will welcome the opportunity to try something different.

In many respects they epitomise what we’re about at Realistic Games: progress and innovation based on a solid base of experience and expertise.”

The Pull Tabs have been added to Realistic’s portfolio, recently boosted by the addition of three new five reel slots, 6 Appeal, Riverboat Gambler, and Snapshot; and the three reel slot Jackpot Cherries.

Realistic now supply their games to a number of leading operators including Bet365, BetVictor, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Stan James, Boylesports, and William Hill.

Their hugely popular slot Super Graphics Upside Down was recently nominated for the eGaming Review’s Game of the Year award.
