GTECH Awarded 10-Year Online Gaming System, Terminals, and Integration Contract from the National Lottery of Belgium

ROME (Italy) and PROVIDENCE (Rhode Island) (May 6, 2014) --  GTECH S.p.A. announced that its subsidiary GTECH Global Services Corporation has been awarded a 10-year online gaming system, terminals, and integration contract to provide end-to-end services for the National Lottery of Belgium (NLB).  The proposed contract, which is expected to commence in May 2014, follows a competitive, negotiated procurement process and is based on an IT services model. GTECH expects to receive approximately €125 million in revenues over the 10-year term.

This award is significant for GTECH as it allows us to build upon the existing relationship with the Belgian National Lottery which dates back to 1993 when we deployed the Lottery’s first gaming system,” said GTECH International President and CEO Walter Bugno.

The IT services model aims to drive services quality and to closely align GTECH’s services with the business requirements of the NLB. It calls for the set-up of integrated business tools, end-to-end processes based on IT industry standard practices (ITIL), and the establishment of a governance organization responsible for managing operations for the NLB.

Time-to-market is extremely important in today’s business environment, and the same holds true for the lottery business. This Services arrangement with GTECH will allow us to introduce innovations more rapidly and be better prepared in the longer term to grow the business in a competitive marketplace. The business alignment through the governance model is key in this model and will allow us to translate new technology into innovative services for our players and to become a more attractive and socially responsible gaming provider,” said NLB’s ICT, Operations and Procurement Director Roger Malevé.

Under the terms of the award, GTECH will provide the NLB with best-in-class and secure gaming technology, performance driven services, and an integrated business environment.

The Company will provide its Enterprise Series (ES) central system solution and replace the NLB’s existing terminal base with 5,550 Altura® GT1200 terminals. GTECH will also deploy mobile and handheld terminals as well as self-service ticket checkers.

The new contract will strengthen GTECH’s presence in Belgium and in Europe. The gaming operations and maintenance will be delivered from GTECH’s operations center in Warsaw, Poland. Ongoing services include the end-to-end operations and maintenance of the ES central system and retailer infrastructure, business tools operations, and other business related services such as project and bid management, quality management, and Enterprise security and architecture.

Scientific Games to Provide National Lottery of Panama's First Online Lottery Game

NEW YORK, N.Y. (May 2, 2014) -- Scientific Games Corporation (Nasdaq: SGMS) (the "Company") today announced it has signed an amendment to its contract with Loteria Nacional de Beneficencia of Panama ("National Lottery of Panama") to provide the country's first online lottery game, Pega 3, under the Company's existing agreement with the Lottery.

Created by Scientific Games, Pega 3 is scheduled to launch in June 2014 as a standard Pick 3 game.

"Pega 3 is our very first online lottery draw game and a brand new product for Panama as we continue to work in new ways to respond to our players and deliver the excitement of lottery with a high level of trust and integrity," said Ricardo Brooks, Director of Loteria Nacional de Beneficencia. "The new game will complement our existing portfolio of products, particularly the new instant games that launched last fall."

The Lottery began offering instant games to players for the first time in October 2013 under a ten-year contract with Scientific Games, which was awarded through a competitive procurement process the same year. Currently, the National Lottery of Panama operates traditional draw-based lottery games through a network of 13,500 lottery vendors.

GLI Testlabs Canada Expanding its Moncton Office

Lotteries Keep Contributing Long After the Games are Played

GENEVA, Ohio (April 21, 2014) – As the American lottery industry celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2014, it is important to realize the significant contributions lotteries have made to good causes over the years. Fifty years ago, a progressive legislator in New Hampshire, Larry Pickett, saw his vision of a sweepstakes as a “viable and voluntary method of raising money for education” come to fruition.

Since the New Hampshire Sweepstakes first sold tickets in March 1964, lotteries have raised some $375 billion for education and other good causes across the country and they have done so with the highest level of accountability and integrity.

Without a doubt, lotteries have provided a way for governments to fund important projects over the years, and they have done so in a safe, secure and responsible manner,” said David Gale, Executive Director the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), the industry’s trade association. “The last few years have been particularly exciting, with world record jackpots continued strength in the instant ticket product, and the initial steps taken by a few jurisdictions into the online world, bringing lotteries to a new generation of players.”

NASPL estimates that about two-thirds of that $375 billion in net revenue has gone directly to education, with the balance supporting a variety of other causes such as economic development, the environment, health and public wellness, and programs for veterans and senior citizens.

In addition, lottery proceeds in some jurisdictions directly offset property and other taxes that would be otherwise paid by residents.

In fiscal year 2013 alone, 44 American lotteries raised some $20 billion for good causes. They generated $63 billion in sales of traditional lottery products that paid $39 billion in prizes back to lottery players.

In addition, several lotteries have been entrusted to operate casino or casino-style gaming in their jurisdictions, and those lotteries brought in another $5.6 billion in net gaming revenue (after prizes paid).

Governments, their citizens and lottery players are not the only beneficiaries of lottery play. On average, about six percent of traditional game sales are paid to retailers in the form of commissions and bonuses, which equates to an estimated $3.7 billion in fiscal 2013. Significant additional commissions are paid to facilities that host casino-style gaming such as video lottery terminals.

And according to NACS, the international association for convenience and fuel retailing, “Many convenience stores depend on lottery ticket sales to generate foot traffic inside the store. Furthermore, the frequent lottery customer purchases additional items when they purchase their lottery tickets. In fact, on 95% of their store visits, lottery customers purchased at least one other merchandise product in addition to lottery.”

Without a doubt, lotteries are entrenched in the American landscape, as they are in most of the rest of the world. For a small stake, every single player has the same chance to win prizes ranging from a simple return on their investment to millions of dollars, with the added benefit that a percentage of every dollar spent goes back to help businesses and provided much-needed revenues to good causes.

Singapore Pools Awarded International Accreditation for High Standard of Information Security & Integrity Controls

SINGAPORE (May 2, 2014) -- Singapore Pools has attained the World Lottery Association (WLA) Security Control Standard: 2012 (WLA-SCS: 2012) certification, making it the second member operator in Asia to achieve this globally recognized security standard in the gaming industry.

Upholding the integrity of our operations is vital to our business. This certification assures our stakeholders that we have a high standard of security and integrity in line with international best practice. This achievement is another step to maintaining the trust and confidence of the public in Singapore Pools,” said Singapore Pools’ Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr Seah Chin Siong.

Mr Seah received the certification on 30 April from WLA General Secretary, Ms Lynne Roiter in the presence of national lotteries and gaming industry players from the region at the Asia Pacific Lottery Association (APLA)/ World Lottery Association (WLA) Seminar in Manila from 28 April to 2 May 2014.

WLA-SCS: 2012 uses ISO/IEC 27001:2005, a leading international standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) as the baseline. The accreditation signifies that Singapore Pools has met the stringent requirements of ISO/IEC 27001:2005, together with 111 additional security requirements set forth by the WLA, including 90 gaming specific security and integrity controls.

The accreditation assessment for both WLA-SCS:2012 and ISO/IEC 27001:2005 was conducted by DNV Certification Limited, a well-known international certification body, following an independent audit of Singapore Pools main operations in March 2014. The audit covered information security policy and organisation, asset management, access control, physical and environment security, communication and operations management, information systems acquisition and development and maintenance, incident management, business continuity management, and compliance.

CIBELAE Seeks to Add to Colombia and Paraguay to Association

BOGOTÁ, Colombia (May 1, 2014) -- The Executive Director of la Corporación Iberoamericana de Loterías y Apuestas de Estado (CIBELAE), Dr. Néstor Cotignola participated in the Juegos de Azar (FADJA) held in Bogotá, Colombia in order to make progress in strengthening and growing the Corporation. It is important to remember that the venue of CIBELAE in Latin America works with Asociación de Loterías, Quinielas y Casinos Estatales de Argentina (ALEA).

For the first time in the history of CIBELAE, it reserved a booth at FADJA where it distributed materials with information about what the Corporation, such as the benefits of becoming a Regular Member.

After the show, Dr. Néstor Cotignola said that "it was a very important meeting because institutional presence at such fairs, where we had more than 120 enquires at our booth from industry representative, help us to demonstrate the importance of an organization like CIBELAE.”

He added: "In the coming months Paraguay will join with the presence in the stand of the Chairman: Javier Balbuena and Colombia as we know, is the key to continuing this process of opening, processing and Latin American unit of gambling.”

FADJA also saw a Roundtable on Corporate Social Responsibility, chaired by Dario Piccirilli, from the National University of La Plata (UNLP), and was  followed by representatives of the various business sectors of the industry of Colombia.

The closure was presided over by Dr. Cotignola, who reported the role that companies like CIBELAE play and, the importance of their participation as Associate Members and urged them to "keep working on this transformation process where all America plays a major role."

Finally Dr. Hernán Najenson, a member of the Community Prevention of Money Laundering-created in the last Board CIBELAE - spoke under the 2nd National Congress of Officers Compliance of Colombia organized FADJA and sponsored by the Information Unit Colombia and Financial Analysis (FIAU) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

He explained the task of the Money Laundering Prevention Unit in ALEA and objectives of the new community work created in CIBELAE.

According to data from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation, the entity that administers Lottery-funded programs, more than 800,000 grants and scholarships to in-state education institutions have been earned by deserving students since the Lottery’s inception in 2004, including more than 100,000 awards during the current academic year alone. Lottery funds are also used to support other education-related activities, including after-school programs implemented in more than 225 sites across the state, and an ongoing initiative to make schools more energy efficient.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (May 5, 2014) -- The Florida Lottery is teaming up with the back-to-back defending champion Miami HEAT for two in-arena promotions during Game One of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Maryland Mega Millions Jackpot Winner Claims Prize

Lucky Retailer Earned $100,000 Bonus

BALTIMORE, Maryland (May 6, 2014) -- The second-largest Mega Millions jackpot prize in Maryland history was quietly claimed late last week. The lucky Marylander bought one of the two winning tickets in the March 18 drawing for the $414 million Mega Millions jackpot. A Florida couple last week claimed the second ticket, which was sold in their state.

The jackpot gave the Maryland and Florida ticket holders, before taxes, $115.5 million each through the cash option selected by the winners. After taxes, the Maryland winner receives $76.4 million.

You have to play to win,” the lucky Marylander exclaimed, borrowing the slogan used by the Lottery several years ago. “You have to play your lucky numbers.”

We are pleased that Maryland, once again, was home to a Mega Millions jackpot winner,” said Stephen Martino, director of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. “Everyone benefits when a winning jackpot ticket is sold in Maryland. This jackpot win gave the state of Maryland some welcome and unanticipated tax revenue.”

That “unanticipated tax revenue” amounts to more than $10.1 million, thanks to the cash option.

Our winner’s lucky ticket came from Lady’s Liquors located at 6474 Crain Highway in La Plata. For selling the winning ticket, the retailer receives a $100,000 agent bonus.

This marks the first Mega Millions jackpot win in Maryland this year, following two jackpot wins in 2013 when an Anne Arundel County man claimed the $189 million prize in October and a Mt. Airy couple won $26 million in February. Maryland saw its largest jackpot win in history in March 2012 when three winners claimed a $218.6 million prize.

Nationwide, the largest Mega Millions jackpot to date was $656 million won on March 30, 2012, by winners in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland. The multistate game is played in 45 states and jurisdictions.

Veikkaus Launch Geolottery Naapurit

HELSINKI, Finland (May 8, 2014) -- Lottery players in Finland have big reasons to celebrate as the Finnish State Lottery Veikkaus launches a daily geolottery under the local name Naapurit (”The Neighbours”) on May 5th 2014.
