Nebraska Lottery Scores Instant Ticket Success With Pollard Banknote’s Exclusive ‘Frogger’ Brand

logo

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada (May 22, 2014) – Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) (“Pollard Banknote”) is pleased to congratulate the Nebraska Lottery on the outstanding success of its first instant game to feature the highly sought-after licensed brand, Frogger. The Lottery’s $5 Frogger ticket has been leaping off the shelves since its launch on January 6, 2014 - selling 50% above the average $5 game in its first 12 weeks on the market. After only four weeks, it was the highest-selling $5 game on the market.

Three decades after the first release of the classic Frogger video arcade game, published and licensed by Konami Digital Entertainment (“KONAMI”), interest in the game remains exceptionally strong in North America, and around the world. Pollard Banknote and the Nebraska Lottery leveraged the nostalgic appeal of this timeless brand to capture the attention of players through an advertisement featured on the Lottery’s website. The eye-catching ad linked players to a Frogger microsite that featured a free-to-play interactive version of the classic Frogger game - an added value of the brand that increases excitement, and keeps players engaged.

We are thrilled that Pollard Banknote’s exclusive Frogger brand continues to perform extremely well in jurisdictions throughout North America, most recently boasting remarkable success for the Nebraska Lottery,” said Sina Aiello, Vice President, Marketing, Pollard Banknote. “With 18 successful Frogger launches to date - and more to come in 2014 - this brand continues to achieve excellent results for many of our lottery partners. The incredible sales generated by the Nebraska Lottery’s Frogger game, once again speaks to the all-encompassing appeal of this classic brand. New and existing players alike are drawn not only to the instantly recognizable characters, but to the fun and engaging interactive game that is reminiscent of the popular and time-honoured arcade game.

We’re very pleased with the results from our $5 Frogger game,” said Jim Haynes, Director, Nebraska Lottery. “The combination of classic video game graphics and a unique play style appealed to our players, and the interactive game was a great addition to our website.”

Frogger is part of Pollard Banknote’s sales-driving portfolio of high profile brands that are selected to appeal to the existing lottery player while attracting new players that are brand loyal. In addition, Pollard Banknote provides a turnkey solution and full-scale program of promotional support with its licensed games - customized to each lottery and its specific market. In addition to designing, programming, and printing the themed tickets, Pollard Banknote’s integrated marketing strategies include second chance drawings, interactive games for brand interaction, retailer promotions, consumer launch events, advertising development, social media campaigns, point of sale materials, and ‘how-to-play’ videos - just to name a few!

Camelot Achieves Second-Highest Ever Annual Sales

Strong Growth In Lotto Offset By Lack Of Euromillions Rollover Luck

LONDON, U.K. (May 20, 2014) -- Camelot UK Lotteries Limited (‘Camelot’) today announced UK National Lottery ticket sales of £6,730.9 million for the 2013/14 financial year – the second-highest annual total since The National Lottery launched in 1994.

In the year ending 31 March 2014, Camelot raised £1,751.1 million¹ – more than £33 million each and every week and almost £70 per UK household – for National Lottery Good Causes. Camelot has now raised over £31 billion for these projects, with more than 430,000 individual awards made across the UK - the equivalent of 138 National Lottery-funded projects in every UK postcode district. Camelot also paid out £3,636.6 million in prizes to players during the year, taking the total amount of prize money paid to date to over £51 billion and the total number of lottery millionaires created so far to more than 3,500.

Buoyed by a very strong second six months as a result of the changes to reinvigorate Lotto which have succeeded in turning around the flagship game’s long-term sales decline, total National Lottery sales in 2013/14 were the second-highest ever. They came very close to matching the exceptional figure of £6,977.9 million set in Olympics year and almost certainly would have done so had there been a repeat of the phenomenal, one-off sales boosts that the EuroMillions game enjoyed in 2012/13.

2013/14 saw significantly fewer EuroMillions Rollovers than the year before, with only half as many draws offering jackpots of over £100 million, and there was no extended roll series beyond 10 rolls, compared with three the previous year which, on their own, delivered almost £200 million in additional sales in 2012/13. EuroMillions also received a never-to-be-repeated boost in 2012/13 from London 2012, with the special 100 UK Millionaires Raffle held on the night of the Opening Ceremony setting a new weekly National Lottery sales record of over £200 million.

As well as strong growth in Lotto, Camelot succeeded in growing sales of instant play games to a record £2,141.1 million in 2013/14, an increase of 3.8% on the year before. This was driven by the launch of 73 exciting new Scratchcards and online Instant Win games offering a range of different play-styles and price points – with even higher prize payouts.

Andy Duncan, Managing Director of Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, said: “We’re delighted to have achieved our second-highest ever sales. We always said that matching the one-off performance of 2012/13 would be virtually impossible but to have very nearly done so – and without the feel-good factor of London 2012 and with far less luck on EuroMillions – underlines what a really good set of results this is. In particular, it’s great to see our flagship Lotto game back in year-on-year growth after a long period of sales decline and delivering substantially more money for the Good Causes.

Having raised over £1.75 billion for National Lottery projects and paid out over £3.6 billion in prize money to our players during the year, we’re fulfilling The National Lottery’s promise to be truly life-changing.  The work we’re carrying out to transform our digital services across all channels – including the imminent launch of an entirely new online platform that will revolutionise the way players interact with our games across all devices – has already seen sales get off to a very positive start in 2014/15 and gives us an excellent platform to deliver even more for winners and society in the years to come.”

¹Subject to audit; figures do not include investment returns on National Lottery balances which are reported separately.

For further information, please contact: Camelot Press Office: 020 7632 5711.

Whole ‘Lotto’ Winning Going On!

DC Lottery players ‘break the bank,’ enjoy streaks, and achieve record wins

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 21, 2014) -- DC Lottery players are dancing to a winning beat. In recent weeks, the Family of Numbers Games (DC 3, DC 4, and DC 5) have yielded chart-topping prize payouts with combined cash awards of over $10 million that have players celebrating their good fortune.

Breaking the bank,’ is the term used to describe prize payouts that exceed sales for that particular game. And, DC Lottery players have been prosperous in their pursuits.

April and May 2014, saw two ‘exotic’ wins with DC 3, the three-digit numbers game with a top prize of $500.

2-2-2 was the winning number for the evening game held on April 9. Collectively, players won $808,550. For the midday game held on May 5, the winning number was triple 7’s yielding another big pay day for DC 3 players with winnings topping $504,800. Total prize payout for DC 3 winners from April 1 through May 13 was $4,842,800. In comparison, this is more than double the $2,291,120.00 payout netted by players for the month of March 2014.

On May 10, the eve of Mother’s Day, DC 4 players won big with 1-1-1-0 for the midday drawing. All totalled, players won over $2 million in cash prizes. The May 10 win represents the highest payout for this game since September 2011 where the combined payout was $2.6 million. The top prize for DC 4 is $5,000.

DC 5 players know why the game is referred to as “DC’s Hottest Numbers Game.” The starting wager is $.50 with the chance at winning $25,000. It is not unusual for players to double-down with a $1 bet for a chance at $50,000. And, they win. Since April 1, 22 DC 5 players have won the $25,000 top prize and another four have won $50,000. Total cash prizes awarded to DC 5 players since April 1 has surpassed $1.2 million.

These numbers represent great wins for our players,” says DC Lottery Executive Director Buddy Roogow.

Where there’s a win there’s a happy player, and we enjoy making our players happy.”

The Family of Numbers Games are played twice daily with midday and evening drawings. Wagers for these games begin at $.50.

Founded in 1982, the DC Lottery is the District of Columbia Government agency that regulates the sale of gaming products and charitable gaming activities in the District of Columbia. Since its inception, the DC Lottery has awarded more than $3 billion in prizes, transferred more than $1.8 billion to the District’s General Fund which supports essential services in the District, and has helped local nonprofits raise more than $125 million

New Legislation Aims to Place Tighter Controls on which Sports are Appropriate for Betting Activities

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (May 19, 2014) -- The NSW Government has recently introduced legislation to Parliament to combat match fixing in sport. The legislation, known as the Racing Administration Amendment (Sports Betting National Operational Model) Bill 2014, aims to provide a framework for betting agencies to enter into integrity agreements with sports controlling bodies.

Increased Scrutiny

The Bill establishes a framework to strengthen the capacity of sporting bodies to recognise and manage integrity risks associated with the betting that takes place on their sport.

Approved controlling bodies will now be given the power to choose the types of bets that are available for their sport, or whether any betting occurs at all.

Fines for breaches

A betting agency breaching the legislation will receive a fine of up to $11,000. An individual who breaches the legislation will receive a $5,500 fine or 12 months imprisonment or both.

Supporting national policy

The legislation will support a national model which underpins the National Policy on Match Fixing in Sport which was agreed to by all Australian Sports Ministers in 2011.

The agreements will:

  • include integrity measures used to prevent, investigate and assist in the prosecution of match fixing or corrupt behaviour
  • provide financial returns to the sports involved; and
  • include information sharing arrangements and a consultation process for new sporting events and bet types

Sports controlling bodies will also have a right to veto betting on their sport if it is deemed in the public interest to do so.

In September, 2012, the Government introduced the first legislation of its type in Australia outlawing match fixing, with penalties of up to 10 years jail for offenders.

GBGC: Gambling Indices Reach Record Highs

GBGC has completed its annual revision of the two gambling indices.

CASTLETOWN, Isle of Man (May 21, 2014) -- The two GBGC indices, GBGC 50 and iGBGC, track the share price movements of the 50 largest gaming companies and ten largest internet gambling companies respectively. To be included in the GBGC 50 index, the companies have to derive at least 35% of revenues from gambling activities

View Interactive Image

At the beginning of 2014 both indices reached the highest levels in their nine-year history. On 2 January 2014, the GBGC 50 reached 237.1 points (both indices were based at 100 at the beginning of 2005), 60% more than a year ago. iGBGC reached 406.8 points, 42% more than a year ago. Both indices have now shown growth for two consecutive years.

In early 2014 the total gambling market cap (adjusted for the percentage of revenues from gambling) of the 50 largest companies reached US$351bn, or 46% more than in the previous year. The gambling market cap ranged from US$793m for the smallest company, Penn National Gaming, to US$56bn for the leader, Sands China.

The top ten gambling companies are the same as last year, albeit in a slightly different order. The top four positions are the same as in 2013: Sand China, followed by its parent company Las Vegas Sands, Galaxy Entertainment and Wynn Macau. The order has changed slightly for the remainder of the top 10, and Melco Crown Entertainment is now in the fifth position. Crown Limited, retaining tenth position, is the only company in the top ten that is not predominantly focused on Asia, even though Asian gamblers account for an important part of its revenues.

The changes in the composition of the GBGC 50 index in 2014 reflect the mergers and acquisitions and spin-offs, which took place in the previous year.

  • The highest-ranking new entrant is Penn’s newly created REIT Gaming and Leisure Properties, which made it to the 24th position.
  • We have also included Berjaya Sports Toto Berhad for the first time, which made it to the 34th spot. The other three companies returned to the index after several years: machine manufacturer Boyd Gaming is back after a year’s absence;
  • Multimedia Games Holding Company, a technology producer for Native American and commercial casinos, returned for the first time since 2006;
  • China LotSynergy Holdings, the lottery equipment manufacturer for the Chinese market, returned for the first time since 2011.

The new entrants replaced WMS Industries, which was acquired by Scientific Games Corp., SHFL Entertainment, bought by Bally Technologies and Ameristar, which merged with Pinnacle Entertainment. Great Canadian Gaming Corp. was also pushed out of the index, now taking 54th place, while Kingston Financial Group is now 56th.

During 2013 the best performer in the GBGC 50 index was Melco International Development, whose share price increased by 209% in the period from January 2013 to January 2014. The worst performer was Echo Entertainment Group, whose shares lost 26% of their value as the company lost its monopoly position in Sydney to Crown, starting in 2019. Its share price in the coming months will depend on whether they secure a licence for a new casino in Brisbane.

The total gambling market cap of the ten leading igaming companies has reached US$15.4bn, 75% more than in the previous year. To be included in the iGBGC index, the companies have to be predominantly Internet based.

Amaya could be quoted as an exception to this rule, because the company started off in land-based gambling, but are quickly growing their online operations.

The gambling market cap of the components ranges from US$193m for Bet-at-Home.com to US$5.7bn for Playtech.

In 2014 all the components of the iGBGC index remained the same, with only their order changing. Playtech remained the leader, followed by Betfair (4th in 2013) and Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment (2nd in 2013). Betsson, 3rd in 2013, is now 4th, followed by Unibet, which retained its position.

All companies in the iGBGC index showed an increase in the share price during 2013. Playtech was the best performer in iGBGC, with share price up 72.6% in January 2014 compared to a year ago. Betsson’s share price was up only 1.7% during the year, making it the worst performer of the interactive index.
