GTECH S.P.A. Subsidiaries Sign Six-Year Drawbased/ Instant-Ticket System Contract With Mexico’s Pronósticos Para La Asistencia Pública

Company expects to receive more than $130 million in revenues over six-year term of full-service contract

ROME, ITALY and PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (U.S.), (December 29, 2014) --GTECH S.p.A. announced that its subsidiaries GTECH Corporation and GTECH Servicios de México, S. de R.L. de C.V. (GTECH) have signed a six-year full-service contract to provide an integrated draw-based/instant-ticket system, a minimum of 11,000 draw-based lottery terminals, a communications network, as well as additional lottery products and ongoing services to Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública (Pronósticos), the online lottery operator in México. The contract signing follows an international competitive procurement and is expected to commence in September 2015. GTECH expects to receive more than $130 million in revenues over the sixyear period. Pronósticos, which has been a valued GTECH customer since 1987, could receive total sales of more than $4 billion over the six-year period.

GTECH is fully prepared to support Pronósticos’ growth strategy with a set of innovative solutions that offer the flexibility to adapt to changes in the industry and the demands of the Mexican marketplace, now and in the future,” said GTECH Americas President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel. “This agreement represents the continuation of our almost three-decades-long commitment to increasing Pronósticos’ returns, which support social programs in México.”

For the past 27 years, GTECH has supported Pronósticos in generating a sustainable and robust source of funding for social programs in México,” said Pronósticos Director General María Esther de Jesús Scherman Leaño. “The continuation of this long-term partnership will

help to modernize Pronósticos’ lottery program and launch the next phase of our growth for the benefit of the communities it serves.”

Under the terms of the full-service contract, GTECH will provide Pronósticos with an integrated draw-based/instant-ticket system based on GTECH’s Enterprise Series® platform, offering open standards, flexible architecture, and fast and secure transaction processing. GTECH will also replace the draw-based terminals with Altura® GT1200 and Altura GT1100 terminals, designed to quickly and efficiently meet lotteries’ evolving needs. In addition, it will upgrade Pronósticos’ communications network to 3G, 4G and LTE cellular technology, and provide additional lottery products and ongoing services.


GTECH’s ongoing services to Pronósticos include continuous development of new retail channels through GTECH’s ES Connect® B2B solution; installation, repair, maintenance and

monitoring of its total base of online terminals; field service; call center operations and hotline management; transaction processing for online games, and processing and distribution of instant tickets; fixed-odds Sports Betting retail network; and marketing support to further enhance Pronósticos’ overall product and game portfolio.

Lottery Commission Extends Contract with INTRALOT for $5 Million Savings

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (December 31, 2014) -- By a vote of 8-1, the Arkansas Lottery Commission agreed Monday to extend by three years its contract with lottery services provider Intralot Inc, for a projected savings of $5 million for the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.

“By extending until August 2019, we will see Intralot’s rate charged on ticket sales drop from 2.45% to 2.165%,” ASL Director Bishop Woosley said after the meeting.  “The new rate will kick in July 1, 2015, and will save us about $5 million in vendor costs.  After several months of tough negotiation, that’s a significant benefit to Arkansas.”


The extension package offered by Intralot and accepted by the Commission includes other benefits to the Lottery, reaffirming the vendor’s pledge to donate to the state’s TRIO/Upward Bound programs.  A one-time marketing allowance of $100,000 is also included in the deal.

On top of the savings and marketing support we’ll realize in the extension, Intralot’s increase in the charitable contribution component will continue to help expand our annual grants to Upward Bound programs at Arkansas colleges and universities,” Woosley said.  “Starting in 2013, Intralot and Scientific Games, our instant ticket vendor, together funded $40,000 in annual grants to help these programs target students from lower income homes where neither parent holds a degree.  We appreciate Intralot raising this commitment to increasing opportunities for Arkansas students.”

The Intralot agreement, originally signed in August 2009, is the second vendor contract negotiated since Woosley became Director of ASL in February 2012.  In June 2012, the Lottery Commission approved an amendment to its instant ticket contract with Scientific Games, resulting in a savings of nearly $880,000 and a one-time cash payment of $2 million.

The contract extension has been submitted to the Arkansas Lottery Commission Legislative Oversight Committee for legislative review.

New Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Chief Executive Officer

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (December 22, 2014) -- The Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation today announced the appointment of John Stinson as Chief Executive Officer, starting February 16, 2015.

The Board of Directors is very pleased and confident that they have selected a strong and creative leader to move the new Crown Corporation forward,” said Tannis Mindell, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Working with the Board and the executive management team, Mr. Stinson will contribute to the strategic vision for Liquor & Lotteries and build upon the corporation’s success in generating revenue for the province of Manitoba, through the responsible delivery of gaming and liquor services.”


Ms. Mindell added that Mr. Stinson was selected for his experience in community engagement and consensus building, as well as his extensive management skills. Mr. Stinson was previously the CEO of the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority and was successful in blending two workforce cultures with the amalgamation of the former North Eastman Health Association and the Interlake Regional Health Authority into one corporate entity.

I am eager to begin my role as CEO at one of Manitoba’s largest and well respected Crown corporations,” said Mr. Stinson. “I am also honoured to soon be part of a team of employees which is dedicated to the corporation and also committed to the community in which they live through their volunteerism efforts. Together, we will move Liquor & Lotteries forward and continue to provide our customers with exciting and innovative products.”

The Board of Directors also thanked Winston Hodgins, who will be stepping down from his role of President & CEO to lead various business development initiatives in the corporation. Mr. Hodgins was the President & CEO of Manitoba Lotteries from 2000 to 2012 and for the last two years led Liquor & Lotteries through the merger process.

“The Good You Do Comes Back to You”

Chicago Resident Supports Veterans - Wins $250,000 Illinois Lottery Prize

CHICAGO, Illinois (December 29, 2014) -- “I always said that if I ever won the lottery, I would help others in need. I believe the good you do comes back to you, and it did for me,” Maria Hurtado said, after playing an Illinois Lottery Veterans Cash instant ticket for the first time and winning a top prize of $250,000. 

Six years ago I won $40,000 on a Crossword ticket and used that money to support my family and friends. My plans for this recent windfall include helping family again,” said Hurtado.


An occasional lottery player, Hurtado was at home when she used a quarter to scratch her ticket.  When she saw the prize amount she went straight to her husband.  “I couldn’t believe it so I asked my husband to check the ticket. He was shocked that I won -- he was speechless!”

Hurtado, 47, has lived in Chicago most of her life.  Originally from Mexico, she and her husband have three children. Additional plans for the windfall include buying a new house for her family. Her advice for others players is, “Buy a ticket that supports a good cause.” 

The winning ticket was purchased at Old World Market, 5129 North Broadway Street in Chicago.  The retailer received $2,500, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, its bonus for selling the winning ticket. 

The Veterans Cash game costs $5 and features four top prizes of $250,000—the largest cash prizes ever offered in a special-cause Lottery instant game.  One $250,000 top prizes remains unclaimed. In addition, 12 $5,000 prizes have not yet been claimed. For more information, please visit

World Junior Hockey Added to PRO•LINE Betting Options

Sale of investment in Ltd and acquisition of domain and European real money gambling business

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (December 31, 2014) -- Unibet Group plc has, effective 31 December 2014, completed the disposal of its investment in shares in Ltd. At the same time, Unibet has completed the acquisition of the domain and the related European real money gambling business from Ltd.

Unibet will record a non-cash gain on the disposal of the results for the fourth quarter of 2014, due to be published on 11 February 2015.  This will be treated as an item affecting comparability and will depend on the share of result of Ltd that is reported to Unibet for the fourth quarter.

Unibet has made a net payment to Ltd of USD 2 million in connection with these transactions (representing USD 8 million purchase price for the domain and European real money business less USD 6 million sale price for Unibet’s former investment in Ltd’s shares).


On 4 May 2010, Unibet acquired 15 million shares in Ltd for a cash consideration of USD 2.25 million (USD 0.15 per share).  This investment has been accounted for as an associate (Unibet’s shareholding represented approximately 26 per cent ownership in Ltd in 2010, which has been reduced to approximately 21 per cent at the time of disposal as a result of further shares being issued).

At Unibet’s most recent reporting date of 30 September 2014, the carrying value of Unibet’s investment in Ltd was approximately GBP 1.1 million.

Between 2010 and 2014, the real money gambling business of has been operated as a white label by Unibet with 70 per cent of net revenues attributable to and 30 per cent to Unibet.

As a result of the above transactions, Unibet will have full control of the domain and the related real money gambling business, while Ltd will be able to focus fully on their social bingo business.

Lottery Marks 12% Increase In Instant Sales, New Game Lineup

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (January 6, 2015) -- The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is ringing in 2015 with a continuing increase in sales of its instant (scratch-off) tickets, and a new line of game products guaranteed to ignite excitement in the cold winter months.

After a gentle five-month upswing in instant ticket sales, December 2014 saw those sales jump to almost $28 million, a 12%, $3 million increase over instant sales in December 2013.  ASL Director Bishop Woosley said Tuesday that the increase was expected, but also very encouraging.

We knew we were seeing the benefits of our new ad campaign and improvements in our game offerings,” Woosley said.  “Even in an unseasonal cold snap, sales have risen.  People are seeking out our products.  We’ve also made some healthy changes to our game portfolio, in keeping with the recommendations made by (independent lottery consultants) Camelot Global Services in their report to our Legislative Oversight Committee in December.”

One new addition to ASL’s portfolio, rolling out today, is the new $20 5th Anniversary Millions instant ticket, continuing ASL’s celebration of five years raising revenues to fund the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship.  “It’s a premium ticket celebrating five years of increased opportunities for Arkansas students,” Woosley said.   “Folks who have tuned into our game lineup in the last six months will like this one, with a chance to win up to $1 million.”

ALBERTA, Canada (December 31, 2014) -- It’s been clear for months now that 2014 was a banner year for new Alberta lottery millionaires. And with the year now in the history books, it’s clear just how significant it was.

The province didn’t just squeak past its previous best year. That was 2012, which saw 32 prizes of $1 million or more for a total $175 million. It positively sprinted to its new record of 45 million-dollar prizes, which totaled $206.4 million.

A look at the Alberta millionaires in the past year shows that winners come from all walks of life. Sixty-seven individuals shared in the 45 wins, and they included truck drivers and teachers, farmers and IT workers. There was a dentist, a kick-boxing instructor, and a stunt performer. Several of the winners were retired.


Thirty-two of the winners were women and 35 were men. The average age was 55, with the youngest being 31 and the oldest 86.

Eighteen communities were represented from across the province. In the traditional Battle of Alberta, Calgary edged out Edmonton, racking up 15 million-dollar wins to the capital’s 12. But thanks to a few huge prizes, Edmonton came out way ahead in the total amount won: $117 million to Calgary’s $38 million.

The only other community with more than one million-dollar prize in 2014 was Drayton Valley, which saw two $1 million wins. Some of the other whose residents shared in the lottery luck included Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Sherwood Park, Camrose, Red Deer, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

The smallest communities represented on the list were Smith and Acadia Valley, hamlets with populations of 218 and 137 respectively.

The biggest Alberta lottery story of 2014 was that of the Edmonton couple who kept a $50 million LOTTO MAX windfall secret for more than six months. That wait was unusual among Albertan winners: half presented their tickets within the first week of winning their prize. Only a handful of the other winners claimed their prizes more than a month after the win. Except for the $50 million winners, none of those knew they had won until just before their claims.

Ten of the million-dollar wins came from LOTTO MAX tickets, and 21 were from Canada’s other national lottery game, LOTTO 6/49. Six $1 million prizes were won on WESTERN 649, and four were won on WESTERN MAX. SCRATCH ’N WIN games rounded out the list – a $2 million prize from $200 MILLION EXTRAORDINAIRE and three $1 million prizes on SET FOR LIFE tickets.

GamCrowd launches Incubator service for gambling start-ups

LONDON, UK (January 8, 2015) -- has evolved its gambling-specific crowdfunding and crowdsourcing platform through the launch of its new Incubator service.

The programme sees GamCrowd directly offer a range of value-added provisions and resources to better prepare start-ups and assist with the process of crowdfunding through GamCrowd. Companies will enter the GamCrowd Incubator process in return for equity in their business.

Participating start-ups can immediately benefit from a full appraisal of their business model, in addition to targeted introductions, marketing advice and ongoing support. GamCrowd may also inject SEIS (Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme) funds and/or other forms of pre-crowdfunding capital as well as recommend partners and/or potential suppliers who may also provide services, such as web development, in return for equity.

GamCrowd CEO Chris North explains that the platform was designed to be adaptable – and that the introduction of Incubator is intended to give more start-ups the chance of making a breakthrough.

We wanted to get GamCrowd out there and learn from the experience that you can only get by operating a business.

“It has always been our intention to build a virtual incubator by introducing crowdsourcing to the platform, and this new development allows us to add even more value to some select start-ups who we will then support all the way through their development,” he said.

WLA Quarterly Lottery Sales Indicator

Global lottery sales strengthen to 10.1% for Q1–Q3 2014; growth driven by Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Europe; North America holds steady



BASEL, Switzerland (December 23, 2014) -- Following a robust first half, growth in World Lottery sales strengthened further in the third quarter of 2014, with a nine-month on nine-month increase in global sales of 10.1%, up from a half-year on half-year global increase in sales of 8.4%. The Latin American and Asia Pacific regions performed the most strongly over Q1–Q3 2014, as against Q1–Q3 2013, while Europe shrugged off its ongoing economic woes to also record a healthy increase in 9M on 9M sales. In contrast, sales in North America held steady over the same timeframe.

Latin American participants in the WLA Quarterly Lottery Sales Indicator enjoyed the strongest showing, with an aggregate increase in sales of 22.4% across the first nine months of 2014, as compared to the first nine months of 2013. The growth in sales across Latin America was yet again underpinned by Argentina’s Lotería Nacional Sociedad del Estado, which in a continued strong showing saw its sales rise by 26.8% for Q1–Q3 2014 over Q1–Q3 2013. Brazil’s Caixa Econômica Federal also performed vigorously, recording three-quarter year on three-quarter year sales growth of 17.1%.

Participating lotteries from the Asia Pacific region registered an aggregate 9M on 9M increase in sales of 17.8%. Growth in the Asia Pacific region was once again fuelled by the mainland Chinese lotteries, with the China Sports Lottery reporting an increase in sales of 33.8% for the period January–September 2014 over the period January–September 2013, and the Chinese Welfare Lottery posting an increase in sales of 17.5% for the same nine-month on nine-month period. In particular, sales at the China Sports Lottery increased by a startling 92.9% for the month of July 2014, as against the month of July 2013. The 20th FIFA World Cup, held in Brazil from June 12 to July 13, 2014, was the main factor in the growth in sales at the China Sports lottery over the relevant timeframe. Other lotteries reporting sales growth in the Asia Pacific region included Australia’s Lotterywest, which posted a 9M on 9M increase in sales of 5.2%.


Collectively, participating lotteries from Africa saw their sales increase on aggregate by 5.2% for the first three quarters of 2014, as against the first three quarters of 2013. Growth in the African markets was driven by Ghana’s National Lottery Authority, which reported a 9M on 9M increase in sales of 19.3%. Following closely on the heels of the Ghanese national lottery was the Mauritian National Lottery, which saw a three-quarter year on three-quarter year increase in sales of 17.9%. Also continuing its very strong showing was Morocco’s La Marocaine des Jeux, which recorded an increase in sales of 17.7% for Q1–Q3 2014, as against Q1–Q3 2013. Offsetting these strong gains, however, the National Lottery of South Africa saw its sales dip slightly over the corresponding timeframe.

Sales at participating European lotteries continued to strengthen, with the region as a whole recording an aggregate increase in sales of 4.2% for the first nine months of 2014, as against the first nine months of 2013. Leading the way was Hungary’s Szerencsejáték Zrt., which reported growth in sales of 25.2% for the period January–September 2014, as against the period January–September 2013. Growth at Greece’s OPAP was also in double-digit territory, with the Greek national lottery reporting an increase in sales of 12.9% for 9M 2014, as against 9M 2013. In particular, Q3 2014 revenues were up by 19.1% on Q3 2013, owing to the strong performance of Hellenic Lotteries on the one hand, and to the ongoing increase in sales of Pame Stihima (fixed odds sports betting) on the other. Sales at the Czech Republic’s SAZKA, a.s. were also up 9.3% for 9M 2014 over 9M 2013, while Finland’s Veikkaus Oy, Poland’s Totalizator Sportowy, and Italy’s Lottomatica all reported nine-month on nine-month increases in sales of more than 5%. Counterbalancing these gains, however, was the performance of lotteries from Spain, which collectively saw sales decline across the board for the period January–September 2014, as against the period January–September 2013.

Despite the improving U.S. economy, lottery sales in the North American region were flat for the first three-quarters of 2014, versus the first three-quarters of 2013. Participating North American lotteries eked out an aggregate increase in sales of 0.8% across the first three quarters of 2014, as compared to the corresponding period in 2013. The California Lottery witnessed the strongest performance in the North American market across this timeframe, recording an increase in sales of 7.5% for the first nine months of 2014, as against the first nine months of 2013. Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation also saw its sales grow for 9M 2014 over 9M 2013, by some 4.2%. Otherwise, sales across the board in the North American region were either flat or down for the nine months through to September 2014, as against the nine months through to September 2013.
