Mifal Hapayis Launch Pop-Up Scratch-Off Instant Ticket Innovation from Pollard Banknote

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, (January 21, 2015) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) is pleased to announce that Mifal Hapayis, Israel’s national lottery, is the first lottery in the world to launch a Pop-Up Scratch-Off instant game, a Pollard Banknote innovation. Hanukkah, named for the Jewish Festival of Lights, launched in early December at the 10 Israeli New Shekels (NIS) price point (approximately $2.55 USD). The ticket is printed on foil stock and features an image of a brightly lit menorah, giving it a festive feel that conveys the message, “Happy Hanukkah.”

Pollard Banknote’s Pop-Up Scratch-Off adds an exciting new feature to a standard two-dimensional instant ticket. With its unique use of die-cutting and scoring processes, one simple fold transforms a conventional scratch ticket into a pop-up place card. Hanukkah Pop-Up Scratch-Off instant tickets are great for welcoming family and friends to Hanukkah dinner—and treating guests with an entertaining chance to win up to 10,000 NIS!

Hanukkah is a perfect tie-in for Pollard Banknote’s Pop-Up Scratch-Off product,” said Nancy Bettcher, Vice President, Product Innovation & Development, Pollard Banknote. “Pop-Up Scratch-Off tickets placed around a dinner table add a fun, exciting element to any celebration or gathering. This product is among Pollard Banknote’s growing range of innovative offerings that help lotteries raise revenues to support good causes.”

Since 2002, Pollard Banknote has contributed insight, knowledge, and experience to bring new instant ticket concepts to Israel’s lottery players, with the Hanukkah ticket being the most recent one,” commented Avi Levy, Mifal Hapayis’ Instant Tickets Marketing Director. “The Hanukkah instant ticket complements a great Hanukkah meal and wonderful company. Everyone likes to receive money as a gift, and with this new game, some dinner guests will be pleasantly surprised with a winning card. This new concept has piqued players’ interest and retail sales have been impressive. This game’s four-week average sales are 11% higher than other 10 NIS games.”

Cowboy Draw, Wyoming's Own Game, Coming This Spring

CHEYENNE, Wyoming (January 16, 2015) -- Get ready to draw, Wyoming! The Wyoming Lottery Corporation is proud to bring you Wyoming's very own lottery game, Cowboy Draw™. Set to launch in the spring of 2015, Cowboy Draw gives players better odds and ensures that winning tickets will be sold from a WyoLotto retailer right here in the Cowboy State.

"Being a Wyoming-specific game means more Wyoming players winning top jackpot prizes and more Lottery money staying in the Cowboy State," said Jon Clontz, CEO of the Wyoming Lottery Corporation. "I expect that the Cowboy Draw game will become an extremely popular addition to our game portfolio."

Cowboy Draw is a draw game, that plays similar to Powerball® and Mega Millions®. Players choose five numbers ranging from 1 to 45. A player who correctly matches all five numbers is the jackpot winner. Players who correctly match four, three and two numbers also win cash prizes of $1,000, $20 and $5, respectively. Tickets cost $5 per ticket with two chances to win per ticket.

Clontz explained that the big attraction for the Cowboy Draw game, offered only in Wyoming, is that more WyoLotto players will win larger prizes. "The minimum jackpot will be $250,000, and it will grow until someone wins it. Someone asked me if the jackpot could realistically hit $1 million, and the answer is absolutely."

Cowboy Draw has an approximate payout of 68 percent, whereas Powerball and Mega Millions payouts are 50 percent. This gives our Wyoming players another great reason to play this game, said Clontz. Because Cowboy Draw is not a national game, all proceeds are retained in Wyoming.

In May 2014, the Lottery Board decided to explore the addition of new games to continue to expand the entertainment value associated with playing the lottery and increase revenue potential. In August 2014, Lottery conducted focus groups in Wyoming to evaluate player reactions to the new game concepts. After reviewing the research, the board decided to go with a Wyoming-specific draw game in the spring of 2015 and other games will follow. The Cowboy Draw game will launch on March 15, Clontz added.

Changes Coming to LOTTO MAX Mean Bigger Jackpots

MONCTON, Canada (January 15, 2015) -- LOTTO MAX is upping its game by introducing even bigger jackpot opportunities. Starting in July 2015, players will see the LOTTO MAX jackpot maximum increase from $50-million to $60-million.

For five years now, LOTTO MAX has been offering jackpots that maxed out at $50-million,” says Manon DesLauriers, Senior Brand Manager of national and regional games with Atlantic Lottery. “Players have told us though, that they’d be excited by even bigger jackpots. With this change, if a $50-million jackpot is not won, it could grow to $60-million.”

MAXMILLIONS, additional $1-million prizes, will still be added when the jackpot reaches $50-million, and will grow along with the jackpot.

Every lottery game is unique and each appeals to people for different reasons.  LOTTO MAX players enjoy the combination of a big jackpot and the possibilities of MAXMILLIONS prizes as the jackpot grows. This game definitely delivers,” notes Manon.

To support the increase in the maximum jackpot, the prize structure will be adjusted slightly. The funding for prizes will remain at 48% of sales; however, minor adjustments will be made to the prize pools for the 5/7, 6/7 and 6/7+Bonus categories. The price for a LOTTO MAX ticket remains the same at $5.

The six-month lead time announcing the changes will allow all Canadian lotteries to ensure their players and their systems are ready for the change,” explains Manon. “LOTTO MAX customers are being notified of these changes through notices on our websites and signage at retail and top of ticket messages.

Marketing Seminar & Workshop On Design Thinking

February 4 - 6, 2015 Hotel Bloomsbury, London, United Kingdom

It is not just about digital or terrestrial channels; it is not just about narratives, stories and respectful two-way dialogue; it is not just about engagement and “share-ability”; it is not just about legacy and metrics … it is ultimately about the customer.

The 2015 WLA/EL Marketing Seminar will offer a range of speakers from lotteries, suppliers and the private sector who will explore these themes and situate them in the lottery and gaming sector.

We will explore common principles of effectiveness in advertising; we will hear reports of lottery game and distribution innovations; we will hear novel ideas such as the lottery as “publisher”, the paperless lottery and how much of a threat is “social gaming”. Is omni-channel or multi-channel the future, or is there still a future for non-digital aficionados?

Over and above that you are also invited to attend a workshop on design thinking prior to the Marketing Seminar.

In recent years design thinking has made its way into strategy research and literature, now representing a new era in the field of business strategy. Design thinking is a strategic approach focusing on how an organization can continuously address emerging changes in customer needs, technology and the competitive environment and successfully position itself with a sustainable competitive advantage.

In the EL/WLA Workshop on Design Thinking in London, participants will be introduced to the topic of design thinking, followed by practical hands-on phases working on a specific problem statement they all can relate to. The goal is to get a general understanding of the design thinking process and apply it practically. The workshop will be facilitated and organized by design thinking specialist Hester Hilbrecht.

Please note: our marketing seminar coincides with the International Casino Exhibition (ICE) and participants will get a 10% discount on entry tickets to ICE!

The scratch game recreates the world of the show: an adventurous setting, a deserted beach, immunity totems, iconic challenges (eating insects, rafting race, archery…), red and yellow teams.

The ticket features two play areas: a main area with 5 challenges and a bonus area.

The bonus area consists in finding 1 to 3 “palm tree” symbols in order to win the priz associated.

Winnings can be cumulated.
