GTECH and Georgia Lottery Announce Official Rollout of Full Complement of iLottery Games

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (US) (February 2, 2015) -- The Georgia Lottery is now the first lottery in the U.S. to offer a full line of iLottery. Traditional draw based games, iKeno, and eInstant games at various price points – the most comprehensive and diverse online content offering of any U.S. lottery – can now be played at mygalottery.com by adults over the age of 18 located within Georgia state lines. Digital games offer enhanced play experiences with online convenience, making deploying iLottery games the logical step for a top lottery enterprise such as the Georgia Lottery. “We believe that the convenience and timeliness of the Internet channel will facilitate incremental growth for the Georgia Lottery and maximize revenues to enhance educational funding,” said Debbie Alford, President and CEO, Georgia Lottery Corporation.

Georgia’s iLottery offering is fueled by GTECH’s full suite of interactive technology, content, and services. GTECH is pleased to have helped empower the Lottery to realize its interactive vision, which included a deliberate rollout schedule during which the Lottery created working partnerships with all its stakeholders, including players, the Georgia public, advocacy groups, and the retail community. This included soliciting feedback from customers invited to play online before the official launch, ensuring that the final site and games are not only entertaining but user-focused, user-friendly, and player protective.

With the introduction of a complete line of eInstants, a new type of online digital lottery games branded in Georgia as Diggi Games, the Lottery is now poised to begin its first full-scale marketing campaign. Georgia’s Diggi Games, which are available in both “Buy” and “Try” modes, represent some of the best content from GTECH’s diverse library of more than 100 game titles.    

Georgia’s iKeno game directly mirrors the Lottery’s keno game at retail, with real time drawings every 3.5 minutes. The Georgia Lottery is the first U.S. lottery to offer iKeno, and the results have been very favorable, with online sales now accounting for nearly 8% of all of Georgia’s keno ticket sales. Rounding out the Georgia Lottery’s complete iLottery offering are the multistate draw based games Powerball and Mega Millions, and Georgia’s own Fantasy 5.

Following a controlled test period, Georgia’s Diggi Game collection has grown to include 10–12 interactive, instant-win games, at prices ranging from $.50 to $3.00. The Georgia Diggi Game offering includes innovative extended play games that provide the player with a prolonged, immersive experience as well as core games such as Bingo and Crossword and “click and win” games that more closely reflect instant ticket scratch cards. All feature the same great attributes – engaging game play, fun graphics, and near-win opportunities – that make traditional instant games so popular, revamped for online play with exciting interactive twists.

INTRALOT Consolidates Online Position Through Strategic Alliance With BIT8

Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries with Record Results in 2014

VIENNA, Austria (January 30, 2014)-- Lotto, EuroMillions and WINWIN drive sales at Austrian Lotteries, Austria’s casinos attract more guests and post increased gaming and gastronomy revenues.

The Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group achieved a new sales record in the 2014 business year. Provisional figures indicate that the Group generated revenues for

the year in excess of 3.6 billion euros, an increase of 2.3 percent compared to the previous year (3.52 billion euros).

The positive trend was driven on the one hand by the classic Lotto, EuroMillions and Rubbellos (scratch-off tickets) lottery products as well as the WINWIN Video Lottery

Terminals (VLT) outlets, which rewarded Austrian Lotteries with a 3.3 percent rise in annual sales to 3.15 billion euros. The 12 domestic casinos also reported positive

numbers: a 6 percent increase in guest numbers and a 3.2 percent increase in revenues, generated in equal measure from rising gaming revenues and a healthy plus at the Cuisino F&B subsidiary.

Chairman Karl Stoss summed up the results in a correspondingly positive tone: “In 2014, we succeeded in giving a breath of fresh air to our classic lottery products with innovative new playing options like TeamTipp and Anteilsschein. The expansions to our gaming mix and refurbishments in our casinos and Cuisino restaurants have also clearly won the strong approval of our guests.”

New Mexico Lottery Add Fun and Games to Tax Season

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (February 3, 2015) -- The New Mexico Lottery is adding fun and games to tax season.

In the “$50,000 Taxes Paid” Scratcher, the $50,000 prize advertised on the $5 ticket is the after-tax amount.

Unlike the tax code, the game’s top prize is crystal clear,” said Karla Wilkinson, New Mexico Lottery product director.  “The big winners will be taking home $50,000.”

Wilkinson added that before taxes, the top prize is approximately $72,000.  In New Mexico, 6 percent in state tax and 25 percent in federal tax is withheld from all lottery prizes greater than $5,000.

In addition to a top prize, the “$50,000 Taxes Paid” game gives players a chance to win up to 15 times on a single ticket.  The game’s other prizes range between $5 and $1,000.

The $1“Rapid Refund” Scratcher has top prizes of $1,000.  The game includes a symbol that triples prizes.

For the lovers of romance, the “Betty Boop™ Limited” Scratcher doubles as a playful Valentine.  The $2 game features top prizes of $10,000.

Also new in stores now is “Lucky Numbers Bingo,” a $3 Scratcher featuring top prizes of $25,000.  There is also a drawing game version of “Lucky Numbers Bingo.”  The drawing game tickets print from the same in-store sales terminals that print tickets for games such as Powerball® and Hot Lotto®.

Lottery Sales Spike As Jackpots and Instant Tickets Rise

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (February 2, 2015)-- Riding the wave of two huge national jackpots and a seven-month upswing in instant tickets, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery logged sales of $36,476,593 in January.

We started 2015 with two online jackpot runs and six months of gradual improvement in our instant ticket sales,” ASL Director Bishop Woosley said Monday. 

Mega Millions got up to $270 million before a winner was picked.  Powerball kept going, and is now estimated at $317 million for Wednesday’s drawing."

"The higher that Powerball jackpot goes without a winner, the more people will buy tickets.  And because online draw games like Powerball, Mega Millions, and our own Natural State Jackpot are more profitable, that means more net proceeds to fund scholarships for Arkansas students.”

Instant ticket sales were $29,066,923 last month, 17% over the $24,814,775 total in January 2014 and continuing a steady rise that began in July 2014.  Online sales of $7,409,670, boosted in part by the larger Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots, showed a 20% increase over January 2014’s $6,219,407.

It’s always nice to have this kind of wind at your back going into the big sales months of spring” Woosley said.  “The instant ticket sales increase is gratifying because we have so much more control over those sales through our current marketing campaign. We’ve also made some aggressive changes to our game portfolio, in keeping with the recommendations of (UK-based lottery consultants) Camelot Global Services in their December report to our Legislative Oversight Committee. But the big multi-state jackpots also mean more to our bottom line, dollar for dollar, supporting the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship program.”

Massachusetts Gaming Commission Adopt BC Lottery's GameSense

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Canada (February. 2, 2015) - The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has announced it is adopting BCLC's GameSense into their responsible gambling program, becoming the first jurisdiction outside Canada to embrace this internationally recognized brand.

The announcement was celebrated at the New Horizons in Responsible Gambling conference taking place February 2-4 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

"We are thrilled to have Massachusetts onboard with GameSense," said Jim Lightbody, BCLC Interim President & CEO. "GameSense is designed to communicate with players in an approachable tone and with engaging resources. It's become a model others look to for best practices and it's exciting to share this with our counterparts."

GameSense gives players factual information they need to play responsibly, make informed choices and connect with resources should they need help. In addition to Massachusetts, the program has already been adopted by gaming jurisdictions in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

"In advance of introducing casinos in the state, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission sought to identify the world's most promising and advanced responsible gaming practices," described Mark VanderLinden, Director of Research and Responsible Gaming, Massachusetts Gaming Commission. "Given the success of BCLC's GameSense strategy, it was clear to the Commission that adopting this innovative brand will greatly enhance our overall efforts to promote responsible gaming and effectively communicate with our citizens."

The first casino in Massachusetts to feature GameSense will be Plainridge Park Casino with future plans to include the new MGM and Wynn facilities.

In B.C. every casino has a GameSense Information Centre staffed by GameSense advisors who are funded by the province's Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. GameSense advisors discuss gambling odds, dispel common myths and share information on resources. They also support the enrollment process for BCLC Voluntary Self-Exclusion program, and referral to the Province's free problem gambling counselling services.

The program uses a positive and fun approach to engage players. Last year GameSense Advisors interacted with an average of 4,500 players each month.

GameSense resources are also available at lottery retailers, on PlayNow.com and at GameSense.ca.

Finland’s National Gaming Operator Sign Multi-Year Exclusive Playtech Deal Extension

LONDON, U.K. (February 2, 2015) -- Finland’s national gaming operator (RAY) has signed a 20-year online contract extension with Playtech, the world’s leading multi-channel gaming software and services supplier – the longest deal in both companies’ histories.

Following four highly successful years with Playtech, generating year-on-year double digit growth and approximately €60 million in gross gaming revenue in 2014, RAY (Raha-Automaattiyhdistys – Finland’s Slot Machine Association), has put pen to paper on a significant gaming software contract extension.

From day one of the initial agreement, Playtech partnered with RAY to plan and launch Ray.fi offering the Finnish government-owned operator its entire online gaming portfolio. This included casino and poker games, a series of localised RAY-branded exclusive games as well as an innovative, dedicated live casino studio launched in August last year. In addition, Playtech worked closely with RAY on a responsible gaming framework specifically designed and adapted in-line with Finnish regulatory requirements. Playtech also confirmed its commitment to support RAY in implementing its ‘Mobile First’ strategy, as part of the organisation’s long-term vision, maintaining its position as the leading eCommerce website in Finland.

The 20-year agreement includes multi-channel gaming software, content and support across online, mobile and retail with an automatic renewal period of four years, and underlines Playtech’s commitment to regulated markets.

Finland’s national gaming operator will continue to enjoy access to Playtech’s leading-edge exclusive content including locally themed in-house and premium branded titles from major studios such as Paramount and Universal, giving the business the strongest and most complete offering available on the market.

FDJ Sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Olympic Committee for the Monitoring of Sports Betting

FRANCE (January 28, 2015) -- La Française des Jeux (FDJ) sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the monitoring of sports paris.

FDJ has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the monitoring of sports paris (information system on sports paris and integrity) otherwise known Betting Integrity Intelligence System (IBIS).

FDJ is the first lottery in the world and the largest operator of sports paris in France to join as such the monitoring system (IBIS) set up by the IOC. By signing this protocol, FDJ joined various national authorities responsible for the regulation of paris and parts-stakeholder international sports world and this market.

This system takes the form of a platform, is to collect data on alerts and practices related to sports paris. Recall that FDJ has a team of 80 people in charge of such monitoring paris sports offered on the Internet and its physical network of outlets.

American Gaming Association Advocate for Congressional Budget to Include Funding to Combat Rampant Illegal Gambling Operations

Freeman: Illegal gambling attracts illicit activities, deprives state and local governments of vital revenues

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 2, 2015) -- As President Obama releases his 2016 budget today, the American Gaming Association (AGA) is advocating for a congressional budget that provides crucial Department of Justice funding to fight illegal gambling operations. In contrast to the illegal gambling market, legal gaming is a highly regulated, $240 billion U.S. industry that supports 1.7 million jobs in 40 states and works closely with law enforcement to identify illegal activity.

Illegal gambling operations attract illicit activities, such as money laundering and other serious crimes, while siphoning critical tax revenues from state and local governments across the country,” said Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the AGA. “We look forward to working with Congress and the Administration on a final 2016 budget that includes much-needed funding to enforce laws against illegal gambling operations across the country.”

Last week, the day before Loretta Lynch’s attorney general nomination hearings began, the AGA sent a letter to Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), ranking member, urging them to ensure the next attorney general will crack down on illegal gambling activities that are prevalent across the United States.

Last month at a speech before mayors from across the country, the AGA estimated that Americans would make $3.8 billion worth of illegal bets on this year’s Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. That figure stands in stark contrast to the approximately $100 million bet legally on the Super Bowl.

New Report Shows Racing Contributes More Than $3 Billion to State's Economy

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (February, 2014) --The NSW Government has released a report into the size and scope of the racing industry in NSW.

The Office of Liquor, Gaming & Racing (OLGR) commissioned the study into the three codes of racing which was conducted by IER Pty Ltd.

The purpose of the study was to determine the economic and social contribution made to the NSW economy by the thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing industries.

The report shows the racing Industry is responsible for generating more than $3.3 billion for the NSW economy and almost 30,000 jobs.

More than 90,214 people participate directly within the racing industry in NSW as an employee, participant or volunteer – about 1 in every 59 adult residents in the state.

There are more than 200 thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing clubs in NSW which host more than 2,500 race meetings annually.

Thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing also plays an important role in the development and preservation of social and community benefits throughout rural, regional and metropolitan areas of the state.

The economic activity generated by the NSW racing industry complements the social impacts, particularly in regional areas where racing events and facilities foster social cohesion and provide benefits for a broad range of individuals and community organisations.
