Jumbo Beat H1 Forecast Following Strong Growth in Australia

BRISBANE, Queensland, Australia (February 19, 2015) -- An analysts' briefing by Mr Mike Veverka, Founder and CEO follows: "Jumbo had a strong finish to the first half of the 2015 financial year which pushed our results up over the top end of our guidance. TTV reached a record $66 million, up 21% over the comparative period. Revenue reached $14.3 million, up 16% and our net profit after tax was near enough to break even. We moved a step closer to becoming a true diversified multi-jurisdictional company although at a pace slower than we would have liked

Three (3) important factors come out of this report.

Australia is still growing strongly with some of the speculation of a slowdown from 6 months ago proven to be unfounded. 21% growth in TTV over the comparative period a year ago and 28% growth in TTV over the preceding period is a great result despite lower jackpot levels. Our customer account database continues to rise. It’s now at 1.82 million with 180,000 new accounts over the past year. Australian Internet lottery sales now account for around 11% of all lottery sales and show no signs of slowing down in the medium term.

Germany is growing but slower than we’d like. There are 3 main reasons for this

  1. The first is our website and App – a matter that we can react to quickly – and we have. Since our nationwide launch in July 2014. our first version was on a par with other websites selling lotteries in Germany. This confirmed what we suspected that differentiation is the key to Germany. As recently as December 2014 we released the first version of our syndicate play and the early signs are encouraging. In March we will release the next version which I expect will have a further positive impact. Our major competitors do not have syndicates so we want to take the lead in this area. Autoplay is another service we are rolling out next month and again this should have a positive impact.
  2. The next reason is the limited number of marketing channels – in particular Facebook. This is simply something that happens in the early stages of a developing industry. We were expecting Facebook to be available for lottery marketing after our launch but as yet is unavailable. We have met with the management of Facebook Europe and are working towards approval.
  3. The last reason is the impact of off-shore unlicensed websites selling German lotteries. This is not something we have had to contend with in Australia however in Europe, with the diversity of jurisdictions spread around Europe and the complexity of EU law, there are a number of sites that appear to sell lottery tickets but in fact are not, instead ‘self-insuring’, putting the customer at great risk of not receiving prize winnings – larger prizes in particular. We have been lobbying the German government to be proactive against these sites as their higher profit margin makes it difficult to compete

We have reduced marketing expenses in Germany to allow time for these changes to take effect. This expense is discretionary so we can decide to vary our spending as we deem appropriate.

Advertisement

The 3rd important factor from this half year report is a new strategy to tap into the potential for new revenue streams in the short term in Australia while the International markets mature. Leveraging our 1.82 million customer accounts with new products should have a more immediate impact to our bottom line than our international projects. But in order to do this we have had to invest in our technology platform to provide the capability for new products to be integrated into the lottery game play process. So over the next few months you will see changes to our flagship OzLotteries App and website with a new brand and new products to entice our customers.

Moving on to some other points of interest about our progress. Jumbo’s Joint Venture in the USA called “Lotto Points Plus” has just completed a US$500,000 capital raising at a post funding valuation of US$3.5 million. This values our 43% shareholding around US$1.5 million which is not currently fully reflected on the balance sheet. So this is some good news coming out of the USA.

Our efforts in Mexico are continuing but we are learning from our experiences in Germany and making sure everything is right before we start marketing. We do not want the light at the end of the tunnel to be too far away and we are looking at ways to return to the profitability of a couple of years ago to help drive the share price back up again.

Jumbo’s balance sheet continues to remains strong. Net assets around $19 million and around $24 million in cash - $14.4 million is Jumbo’s and the rest is players funds

In summary, I am very pleased with the continued growth in Australia and our prospects with new products later this year. Growing pains in new markets is nothing new and Germany is no different. I recall similar issues in Australia in the early days when the numbers were not that good and look at them now.

The Internet lottery market continues to expand rapidly and Jumbo is leading the way. Competitors are entering the market but they are all single jurisdictional companies – like Jumbo was a few years ago. Jumbo is today the only multi-jurisdictional company in the world in the Internet lottery industry and it is important that we preserve this lead. We know that internet lotteries are very scalable and profitable once you get past the critical mass. Jumbo is well on its way to becoming a much larger and much stronger business with true diversity and profitability.

And when combined with the interest generated by a big Powerball jackpot, the recipe for a record week is complete. Best of all, this means more funds for the education programs supported by the Lottery.

FDJ® Launch “SAPHIR €250,000”, the First French Scratchcard Game Made with Glossy Ink

FRANCE (February 24, 2015) -- On Monday February 16, La Française des Jeux launched “SAPHIR €250,000”, the first French scratchcard game made with glossy or “holographic” ink. This new game offers the chance to win up to €250,000 on a €5 bet.

Over a duration of around four months, 21 million tickets of this limited-edition game will be exclusively on sale at the 32,700 FDJ® retail outlets.

“SAPHIR €250,000” is the fourth scratchcard game in the €5 sector to offer a high symbolic maximum payout, and it also has its own important feature: the highest payout frequency (combining all payout amounts) of all the ILLIKO® range of scratchcard games, at 1 in 2.99 (compared to 1 in 3.28 for “Astro”, which previously had the highest payout frequency).

A Particularly Popular Concept

Advertisement

With “SAPHIR €250,000”, FDJ® hopes to attract the largest number of players thanks to a colourful design evocative of games for “casual gaming” (recreational games for smartphones) and an attractive prize structure (distribution of prize payout amounts and probability of winning): 1 in 7.21 chance of winning €5 or €10, compared to 1 in 10 with Jackpot.

Studies* carried out show that 78% of players enjoy the game, 34% of them immensely, particularly as a result of its design and simple mechanics. The game entails scratching off six sapphires and 20 precious stones and comparing the results (if one or more of the numbers revealed correspond to one or more winning numbers, the player wins the associated amount(s); payouts are cumulative).

The use of holographic ink, or glossy ink, means that the sapphires and precious stones stand out clearly and guarantees excellent visibility for the ticket at the till. “In the US, games launched using the Scratch FX® technique (the official name for this glossy ink) sold 28% better on average than tickets using similar themes at similar prices but produced with the standard four-colour process,” explains the printer.

“In 2002, one of the biggest lotteries in the US launched its first ticket on the theme of precious stones using the Scratch FX® technique: Diamond Payout. That has been its number one selling ticket since then,” it adds.

About the ILLIKO® range of games

In 2014, the ILLIKO® range of scratchcard games – (available at all FDJ® retail outlets) reported €5.744 billion in sales, an increase of 4.8% vs 2013. They represent 44% of La Française des Jeux’s sales. The range comprises around 20 games within the network and is regularly updated to respond to the expectations of players, who are avid fans of innovations.

The ILLIKO® range can also be found on FDJ.fr, with copies of its flagship retail outlet games as well as “web exclusives” designed especially for online players.

In a few short years, the €5 scratchcard game sector has become a hit with players, and in 2014 it represented half the turnover of the ILLIKO® range of games (49.9%). Besides the high maximum payouts of €100,000, €250,000 and €500,000, the variety of game themes on offer in this sector has brought success year on year: superstitions are turned on their head with “Coup de Chance”, “CASH” and “JACKPOT,” which offer a world of wealth, whilst “MOTS CROISES” provides pause for thought and “MONOPOLY” is a source of pure entertainment.

SACRAMENTO, California (February 23, 2015) --The World Lottery Association (WLA) has awarded the California Lottery with the highest certification level for its Responsible Gaming programs, making the California Lottery the first in the U.S. to achieve this distinction.

The WLA Level Four award is the highest level of responsible gaming certification recognized internationally. Schafer Systems Inc.

"Responsible Gaming is very important to all of us at the California Lottery, from our employees to our retailers, vendors and players," said Paula LaBrie, Acting Director of the California Lottery. "We knew our Responsible Gaming Program was one of the strongest in the nation, but we're always looking for ways we can continue to improve our practices. Given the size of the California Lottery and the amount of supplemental funding we provide to public education, achieving a Level Four status is quite an accomplishment. We are pleased the California Lottery is the first lottery in the nation to achieve this certification."

In Fiscal Year 2013-14, the Lottery made moving from a Level Three to a Level Four WLA certification a business goal and began the process of identifying new ways to further develop its Responsible Gaming program. The Lottery has implemented key recommendations set forth by the WLA's Independent Assessment Panel some of which include:

  • Launching the nation's first dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility website in the lottery industry;
  • Training 97% of its workforce on responsible gaming;
  • Enhancing retailer training;
  • Strengthening its relationship with responsible gaming stakeholders; and
  • Improving treatment referrals, among other improvements

The WLA is recognized as the global authority on the lottery business. It is comprised of state-authorized lotteries and gaming organizations from more than 80 countries on six continents.

The WLA's Responsible Gaming Principles and Framework is a certification program that outlines lotteries' level of commitment to corporate social responsibility and responsible gaming.

The WLA's Responsible Gaming Principles and Framework allows for cultural and regional differences and is designed to complement and improve the safeguards that individual lottery operators have in place.

The 10 Program elements are: Research, Employee Program, Retailer Program, Game Design, Remote Gaming Channels, Advertising and Marketing Communications, Player Education, Treatment Referral, Reporting and Measurement and Stakeholder Engagement.

The California Lottery is a $5 billion enterprise based in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars. Its mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities.

In FY 2013-14, the Lottery created 89 new millionaires. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and Lottery retailer compensation.

Maltco Offer a New Way with More Chance to Win

MALTA (February 19, 2015) -- Maltco Lotteries is launching its’ new way of playing, Syndicates. Through this new method, a group of people can now try their luck by playing a set number between them, on the same ticket for their favourite game, after pooling their desired amount of money they wish to play, difference from before is that now each one of them will have a separate original ticket and should they win, the players can exchange their ticket with the winning money, individually, and at their preferred Point of Sale.

Advertisement

Without a shadow of a doubt, this innovative method continues to encourage so that more of you join venture in choosing your selection of numbers and try your luck together, with far more possibilities of winning.

When you adjoin a group to participate in one of Maltco Lotteries games, be it Lotto, Super 5, or Quaterno+, the winning possibilities increases because there will be more numbers played, and so this will also increase your excitement in participating.

The main principal of the Syndicates is quite familiar already, it has become very common for a group of colleagues, friends, or club members and also family members and friends to pick a set of numbers, pool in some money and together participate in one game or another. This happens most commonly when jackpots gets quite high.

The new method of Syndicates offers just that, a person encourages a group of people to adjoin and together choose a set of numbers to play together, but with a number of additional advantages.

With the new method: the person who initiates the group to adjoin will be trusted with the members who participated, collect the money, and buy the agreed ticket/s.

Advertisement
AGE 2015

The Agent then produces a number of tickets according to how many members are participating for that particular draw. So all participants will have a valid ticket and so should there be any winning numbers, each member can individually exchange the ticket for the winning amount, at the Point of Sale of their choice.

So this brings another advantage to the new Syndicates concept, in which the winner doesn’t have to wait for the organiser to exchange the ticket and be given the winning amount of money, but he/she can go straight to a Point of Sale at their own convenience. This is called the “Player Syndicate”.

Another method brought new on the Market is when a player goes to a Maltco Agent and ask to participate within a group of collective tickets. This is called the “Agent Syndicate”, all previous (player syndicate) mentioned regulations apply to this method too.

It stands to reason that all Syndicate tickets may be chosen in the most personalised way, according to the players’ preferences.

Just like when other services were introduces, all Maltco Agents have been well trained for this new way of playing, and in fact their reaction was a positive one due to the fact that they can foresee how this bring more excitement and joy to the players. Undoubtedly Maltco’s players will get the same reaction when experiencing this beneficial new way of playing.

So whether you’re a Player Syndicate, or an Agent Syndicate participant… Maltco wishes you all the best of luck!

Lottery Offer Self-Checks to Help Players Avoid Scams

JEFFERSON, Missouri (February 20, 2015) -- In recognition of national Scams Month this February, the Missouri Lottery wants to remind players that now, more than ever, they have the resources to self-verify if their ticket has won a Lottery prize.

We have developed a number of prize verification services for player convenience and safety,” began May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery.

Reardon wants players to realize that a lot of these resources can be used at their favorite Lottery retail location or online.

We have installed new Check-A-Ticket (CAT) Machines at all of our retail partner locations. Players can scan their Draw Game ticket’s barcode with this machine to verify if they have a winning ticket.”

Additionally, Reardon added that all new Scratchers games have specialized FailSafe® barcodes on the ticket’s play area beneath the scratch-off coating.  Scratchers tickets with the FailSafe barcode can also be scanned on the CAT machine to verify the ticket’s prize.

Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for consumers to be contacted by businesses with deceitful practices,” said Reardon. “These scams usually appear too good to be true, and we want our players to be wary of such situations. It’s important to note that players can’t win a cash prize for something they haven’t purchased a ticket for.”

To combat these types of scams, the Lottery has developed a variety of verification services to make it as easy as possible for players to identify if they have won a Lottery prize.

In addition to the Check-A-Ticket Machines, other self-verification services include:

  • Player-requested prize receipts from retail clerks;
  • Checking winning Draw Game numbers and remaining Scratchers prize amounts at MOLottery.com;
  • Player-requested prize receipts from retail clerks;
  • Signing up to receive winning Draw Game numbers via email or text message through a My Lottery Players Club account; and
  • Calling a regional winning numbers hotline:

Additionally, after purchasing any Lottery ticket, players should sign the back, keep the ticket in a safe place and promptly check to see if they have won a prize.

When in doubt, players should contact the Missouri Lottery at 1-866-MOLOTTERY

(1-866-665-6883) to report suspicious activity.

To further protect players, Reardon encourages visiting the Missouri Attorney General’s website to view a list of the “Top 10” scams cycling throughout the nation:  http://ago.mo.gov/consumercomplaints/topten/index.htm. On the website, visitors can also file and search for consumer complaints and access information about identity theft, the “no call” list and more.

Unfair or deceptive business practices can also be reported by calling the Missouri Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-392-8222.

Chess is a popular game in Malta and a significant number of participants meet regularly to play this game which requires absolute mental strength and where every manoeuvre is a result of thought, vision and prediction. Participants playing at this level not only play against their opponent, but also against time which plays a determinant role.

The Malta Chess Federation regularly organises tournaments which attract much interest and participation at various levels. In the next two years, Maltco Lotteries will be sponsoring what is known as the National Championship Cycle of the Malta Chess Federation.

This consists of three tournaments: ‘Maltco Preliminaries’, ‘Maltco Candidates’ and ‘Maltco Finals’. The level of these tournaments is high and internationally recognised as described in electronic websites which stress the importance of these tournaments for whoever takes this sport seriously. By participating in such tournaments, players can gain personal points which count towards international rankings.

The first phase of these tournaments – Maltco Preliminaries’ – is open for all those passionate about chess. Anyone can participate at this level, be it those who have just recently found their love for the game as well as those who are more familiar with it.

Naturally, winning participants will progress in the competition which will commence on the 23rd of February and which will be held every Monday and every Thursday for seven consecutive rounds until the 16th of March. The top players who advance and move forward in the first stage will qualify for the second phase of the tournaments – ‘Maltco Candidates’ which will be held between the 13th and the 27th July, also in seven consecutive rounds.

Again, those players who manage to win and beat their competitors and therefore advance in the second phase of the competition, will progress along with the final group of players to the third and final phase of the tournament. Four players in all will make it through this phase.

At this final stage of the competition, players face each opponent twice – direct matches during which an accumulation of points will finally result in the declaration of the Maltese Chess Champion for 2015.

A spokesperson for Maltco Lotteries claimed that Maltco’s sponsorship to the Malta Chess Federation will also be repeated next year, which means that the company will be sponsoring these annual chess tournaments organised by the Malta Chess Federation for a period of two years.

This support towards the Malta Chess Federation continues to confirm the on-going commitment of the company in favour of raising awareness and support towards local sport in its various disciplines.

Maltco Lotteries believes in the social responsibility culture, so much so that it continuously works towards the development and success of Maltese sport, not only locally, but also at an international level.

Maltco Lotteries adopts various initiatives throughout the year in favour of the strengthening of sports in our country. One can also name a very important initiative that the company took last year to raise awareness and educate more about the ‘match fixing’ threat in sports, an initiative which today became an issue discussed amongst the highest levels of our country to liberate sports from any threat of corruption.

It should be noted that in the local sports scene, Maltco Lotteries is represented by its product U*BET which gives local sport enthusiasts the opportunity to participate proactively in their favourite sports disciplines.

Maltco Lotteries believes that it should be at the forefront to ensure the growth of the sport in the Maltese islands, which after all also includes its regular players.
