Live Updates at This year’s Australasian Gaming Expo

SYDNEY, Australia (June 25, 2015) -- The Gaming Technologies Association, owner and operator of the Australasian Gaming Expo, will showcase new technology at this year’s event to keep visitors abreast of news and activities.

Visitors who have installed the latest version of the AGE App version 1.6 or higher on any of their mobile devices and agree to accept messages from the AGE, will receive a welcome message as they pass through the entry.

Once they’re inside the exhibition, they’ll receive messages advising when and where different activities will take place.

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) Complete WLA Responsible Gaming Level Four Certification Assessment for California Lottery

MONCTON, New Brunswick (June 22, 2015) -- Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) has successfully completed a World Lottery Association Responsible Gaming (WLA-RG) Level Four Certification assessment for the California Lottery. The assessment was conducted by GLI's Professional Services Division and Mike Randall from Engage Atlantic.

With the successful assessment, the California Lottery becomes the only lottery in the United States to hold the WLA- Responsible Gaming Level Four Certification.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (June 24, 2015) -- Kambi and Grupo Televisa reach agreement for the provision of sports betting in selected PlayCity Casinos in Mexico.

Kambi Group plc and Grupo Televisa have signed a contract for the provision of sports betting services to Grupo Televisa’s PlayCity brand. Under the terms of the agreement, Kambi will initially deploy its fixed odds betting terminals into the sports betting areas of two PlayCity Casinos in Mexico. The partnership will enable Grupo Televisa to upgrade its sports betting offering by providing Kambi’s managed betting service to its customers, with a view to both extending the scope of the retail roll-out and exploring the multi-channel potential following this “proof of concept”.

Survey Stats Show MGS Are Charting the Right Course

MACAU, SAR (June 22, 2015) -- Following the success of last year’s Macao Gaming Show, the expo organisers have been busy analysing the statistics to help harness the event’s strengths and continue on the path to further growth.

The early forecasts indicate that the 2015 edition already looks set to build on last year’s attendance figures, with at least 99% of attendees confident that they would return at the next opportunity.

When asked for their opinions on the Macao Gaming Show and specific reasons for returning, attendees focused on the show logistics, commenting on the organiser’s professionalism, the informative conference topics and the “brilliantly diversified” exhibitor base. They also said that the Asian theme had drawn them to the show, with the centre-piece on this rapidly developing market offering valuable insight for international attendees.

MGS visitor levels soared by 40% from the previous year in 2014. But it wasn’t just the quantity of people at the show that appeared to impress exhibitors; it was also the quality.

Of the twelve thousand visitors who passed through the doors of the Venetian to attend the 2014 ‘By Asia, for the world’ show, at least two thirds were senior management figures or company directors.

An overwhelming 84% of visitors had the authority to either approve or recommend purchases, while the remaining 16% could identify potential areas for investment.

Florida Lottery Scratch-Off Sales Break All-Time Record, with Time Left to Grow

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (June 23, 2015) -- Florida Lottery's Scratch-Off sales this fiscal year have already surpassed last year's record-breaking Scratch-Off sales year. Last week's launch of the WEEK FOR LIFE family of games helped generate more than $72 million in Scratch-Off sales for the week ending June 21, 2015. This fiscal year to date, the Lottery has generated more than $3.62 billion in Scratch-Off sales alone.

"This is a great achievement for the Florida Lottery and great news for Florida's students and schools since a portion of every ticket sold contributes to education funding in all of Florida's 67 counties," said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell.

"With just one week remaining in the fiscal year, the Lottery is committed to doing everything possible to make this another record year in prizes paid to winners, commissions paid to retailers which helps grow Florida's economy, and most importantly, in transfers to education."

Kansas Lottery Deliver Record Transfer to the State!

TOPEKA, Kansas (June 19, 2015) -- The Kansas Lottery is putting one in the record books! The Lottery has set an all-time record, transferring more revenue to the State this fiscal year than ever before. The transfer of $75.02 million for FY15 beats the previous record by more than half a million dollars and is $1.5 million more than the Lottery's original transfer goal of $73.5 million set by the Kansas Legislature.

"To say that I am proud of this accomplishment by the Kansas Lottery team would be an understatement," said Kansas Lottery Director Terry Presta. "Every department made vast strides of improvement over the year." This was at a time, Presta said, when the lottery industry nationwide was facing many challenges.

  • Powerball went into a jackpot drought, sending sales down 40 percent nationwide the first two quarters of FY15.
  • Mega Millions also experienced its own jackpot drought and was down 25 percent in the first quarter of this year.
  • A new national draw game the Kansas Lottery was counting on for $6 million in sales in FY15, collapsed in other state lotteries in December before Kansas even began selling it.

 

To make matters worse, Presta said, one of the Lottery's largest retailers stopped allowing lottery players to include lottery tickets in their purchases if they used debit or credit cards because of a change in fees for this, and also decided to reduce the number of instant scratch games it would sell in its stores from 24 to 8 (causing instant sales to drop almost $100,000 per week).

"By February 2015, our prospects of making the $73.5 million transfer looked pretty bleak," said Presta.

"However, the Kansas Lottery remained focused on all of our new initiatives and made internal changes with the sole focus of helping us make or at least get very close to our transfer goal. If this year were a prize fight I would have said we were knocked down in the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th rounds. But somehow we got up from the mat and won the fight."

Total Kansas Lottery sales for FY15 won't be tabulated until the end of the fiscal year on June 30, but Presta predicts total sales for the year will also set a new all-time record. The previous record for sales was in FY14.

Where Does the Money Go?

Lottery Revenue

Lottery revenue goes into the State Gaming Revenues Fund. On a yearly basis, the first $50 million is divided by a formula which first transfers $80,000 to the Problem Gambling and Addictions Grant Fund. Then 85 percent of the balance is transferred to the Economic Development Initiatives Fund, 10 percent to the Correctional Institutions Building Fund, and 5 percent to the Juvenile Detention Facilities Fund. Any receipts in excess of $50 million must be transferred to the State General Fund.

The Economic Development Initiatives Fund supports state programs that create and retain jobs in Kansas. Those programs include the Rural Opportunity Zones Program, Kansas Department of Commerce programs, Tourism and Parks programs in the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks, and many more.

Proceeds from the sale of the Kansas Lottery's Veterans games go directly to programs that benefit Kansas military veterans such as the Veterans Enhanced Service Delivery Program which brings services to veterans where they live, National Guard scholarships and Kansas Veterans Homes.

A media plan that relies heavily on digital

To reach its target, FDJ® put on a digital media plan since the films will be first broadcast on various digital platforms - in long versions (between 42 '' and 53 '' according to the films) - before being broadcast radio and online TV - in shorter versions (30 '').

Lottery Corporation Provides More Flexibility with New Ticket Purchase Time Schedule

MONTRÉAL, Canada (June 22, 2015) -- Starting on July 13, 2015, consumers will have more time in the evening on draw dates to try their luck at lotteries. Previously set at 9:00 p.m. (EDT), wager closing time will be pushed back by 90 minutes to 10:30 p.m. (EDT).

The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation's (ILC) five members, including Loto-Québec, decided to push back the deadline for players to purchase their Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max tickets on draw dates.

In the interest of consistency, Loto-Québec will apply the new wager closing time to all its draw lotteries. Naturally, the new schedule will also apply to online purchases.

This change will provide Quebecers with more flexibility for buying tickets in the evening on draw dates.

Broadcast of results

Tickets and draw results may be checked on Loto-Québec's web site at lotoquebec.com/loteries and the Lotteries mobile application, at any of 8,500 retailers throughout Québec, on self-serve ticket checkers or the crawler at the bottom of the screen on the LCN television network. In addition, Loto-Québec will ensure the public is informed of this change by posting the new wager closing time at all points of service.

Restaurant Entertainment Chain to Introduce Live in-Venue “Fantasy Sports Books

ALBANY, New York (June 22, 2015) -- The fantasy gaming industry continues to innovate, bringing with it fresh ideas that provide more types of games in a variety of contexts. AGA: Nine in Ten Voters Across the Country Approve of Casino Gaming

(June 18, 2015) -- If presidential candidates want to win votes in Nevada, they should learn the ins-and-outs of modern casino gaming, a $53 billion Nevada industry that supports 425,000 Nevada jobs, says American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO Geoff Freeman in a letter to declared and likely candidates today who have demonstrated an interest in competing in Nevada.

Every presidential candidate seeking votes in Nevada should take a stand in support of gaming,” wrote Freeman. “Talk to Nevada’s elected officials, especially those advising your campaign, who understand the importance of backing gaming. Meet with stakeholders who directly benefit from our industry, such as charities whose programs would not exist without contributions from casinos.

Further, publicly demonstrate an appreciation for gaming by visiting a casino resort or gaming supplier facility. Take a back-of-the-house tour to see firsthand how thousands of hardworking employees power the industry that is the lifeblood of the state’s economy. Without a doubt, you will hear stories about how gaming provides a path to the middle class and opportunities to advance one’s career in a fulfilling way to people of all backgrounds and experiences.

Three presidential candidates are descending on Nevada this week with the goal of capturing the support of the state’s influential Latino community. The candidates are speaking to more than 1,200 Latino leaders from across the country at Aria Resort and Casino during the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Annual Conference, which serves to highlight the gaming industry’s highly diverse workforce, of which 20 percent are Latinos.

In the letters, Freeman noted that voters across the country approve of gaming in record numbers.

With nine in ten American voters approving of gaming, your presence in casinos and gaming supplier facilities will only boost, not hurt, your chances of securing more votes – not just in Nevada, but nationwide,” he wrote.

Beyond Nevada, Freeman highlighted that 40 states have casinos today.

“While gaming’s presence is largest in Nevada, it is not limited to the Silver State,” Freeman wrote. “As you travel to other key presidential states, you will quickly realize that gaming is no longer a niche, novel industry, but a nationwide, quarter-of-a-trillion dollar industry that is supporting more than half a million jobs in the key states of Iowa, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, among others.
