Innovative Electronic Table Systems (ETS)

Scientific Games continues to provide innovative electronic table game solutions ("ETS") for every type of casino floor through its Shuffle Master brand. Several of these e-table innovations will be prominently featured, including Tablemaster Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, and Fusion Auto Roulette.

Headlining the ETS segment this year will be a new game available: Tablemaster Fusion - Playboy Bonus Blackjack. This one-of-a-kind blackjack game features the first-ever licensed brand ETS product that incorporates a community "slot-like" bonus round and highlights the beauty of four Playboy Playmate dealers. The Tablemaster Fusion line uses a high-definition, 75-inch 4K display for the attractive virtual dealers as well as 22-inch widescreen player terminals with touchscreen betting, enhanced graphics, and multiple side bets.

Also taking center stage will be the cutting-edge Fusion Hybrid, which features connections to up to four live-dealer games and user-friendly, 22-inch widescreen electronic betting terminals. For a dynamic gaming experience and increased revenue potential, players can switch between and concurrently play baccarat, roulette, and sic bo from the same terminal with the convenient touch of a button. Also, the Company will also display community blackjack on the Fusion Hybrid, where all players are dealt the same first two starting cards but subsequently each player can independently make unique playing and betting decisions on each hand.

Fusion Auto Roulette, which brings traditional roulette to a fully configurable, live-action, electronic layout, will also be shown. A beautiful, color display board offers the latest statistics on table happenings, and a camera displays the live ball drop on-screen. The game includes an array of terminal- and wheel-lighting options, allowing players to customize a unique experience that captures the essence of each casino area.

SG Interactive on Display

At G2E 2015, SG Interactive will showcase its industry leading suite of digital gaming solutions for both online and land-based casinos, anchored by renowned slot and table content.

Highlighted will be SG Universe, a suite of products that enables land-based casinos to deepen their relationships with players through incremental engagement both on and off the casino floor, keeping their brand top-of-mind between casino visits while generating excitement for increased casino visits. SG Universe's award-winning platforms include Mobile Concierge, VenueBet and Play4Fun Network.

With Mobile Concierge, players can engage with a casino's brand and amenities, including the ability to view loyalty rewards, receive personalized messages, and book hotel rooms, spa treatments and more. With the VenueBet platform, players can engage with slots and table games, as well as more casual and skill-based content, from their smartphone or tablet within pre-determined areas of a casino property, turning players' mobile devices into incremental gaming positions on the casino floor. The Play4Fun Network is a proven social casino platform that drives player engagement with multiple forms of content from across the Company's breadth of studios. SG Universe integrates into a casino's CMS allowing for a single, 360-degree view of the player and the ability to deliver a powerful, personalized, branded experience based on a player's activity both on and off the casino floor.

SG Interactive continues to provide the deepest and broadest portfolio of player-favorite wagering content to online casinos globally through its Bally, Barcrest, Shuffle Master and Williams game development studios. Remote Game Server content features numerous licensed brands already popular with many players including the Hasbro classic MONOPOLYTM, with new launches joining recent hits such as MONOPOLY Big EventTM and Super MONOPOLY MoneyTM, as well as the legendary KISSTM and the whimsical THE WIZARD OF OZTM. Now HTML5 games are launching simultaneously for web and mobile and with features like free spins, wilds and scatters; players can continue to expect an exciting ride from the SG Interactive portfolio.

Lottery Comes to G2E

Additionally, Scientific Games will have its breakthrough lottery retail technology on display at G2E with the PlayCentral HD, an interactive self-service kiosk for lottery instant and draw games, and high-frequency draw games where allowed by law. PlayCentral HD takes the self-service retail experience to a new level with a 42-inch LCD touchscreen display with a 3-D graphical user interface that offers unique interactive capabilities. PlayCentral HD puts the player in command of the game options and the information they want to access, while offering features like cash and debit card payment, ticket checking and validation, age verification, integrated advertising display and - for the first time in lottery self-service - a "shopping cart" experience similar to internet retailers.

A central focus of the Company's lottery exhibit will be the Play Central EX self-service betting terminal. This reliable, easy-to-navigate, eye-catching kiosk delivers an extensive, configurable betting program in real time offering unlimited sports, events and markets. It can be used as an end-to-end sports betting solution or as an integral part of the omni-channel, Scientific Games unified sports betting system to deliver pre-game and in-play excitement.

New for lottery play, Scientific Games combines its intriguing LinkedPlay holographic instant game concept with three popular WMS slot brands to create all new instant games. Players scratch off the play areas of Jackpot Party, Gold Fish and Zeus II instant games to reveal familiar symbols from these popular slots games. The Company is the first to use holographic play symbols under an instant game scratch-off coating, adding a dynamic and exciting play experience for both instant and casino players as they scratch to win big.

Scientific Games currently leads the industry in mobile and web solutions for lotteries. The Company delivered more distinct mobile and web-based projects to lottery organizations than all competitors combined, managing diverse regulatory environments, player sophistication, third-party system integrations and multiple languages. At the core of Scientific Games' interactive focus are bonusing and rewards solutions. More than 600 solutions have been delivered to more than 40 lotteries around the world, ranging from single game second-chance promotions to full-line loyalty and bonusing programs. Scientific Games has also delivered iLottery solutions to more than 13 World Lottery Association members, beginning with Lotto Bayern (Germany) in 2001 and most recently with North Dakota Lottery (U.S.) in 2014. Where permitted by law, the Company's mobile and web iLottery solution is an exceptional opportunity for channel extension. Central to all of the Company's interactive solutions is its lottery mobile app that is currently deployed with nine U.S. lotteries with two more soon to be released. Scientific Games embraces "mobile first" and our many deployments are a testimony to this in action.

Global Growth Up 4.6% Half-Year on Half-Year; Growth Buoyed by Sales Surge in Latin America

BASEL, Switzerland (September 14, 2015) -- After a sunny start to the year in which sales grew by 8% quarter-on-quarter, growth slowed in Q2 2015, with aggregate half-year on half-year growth coming in at 4.6% globally. Regionally, growth in the Americas strengthened, while growth across the African, Asia Pacific, and European markets moderated.

The Latin American region was the standout performer in H1 2015, with participating Latin American lotteries reporting an aggregate first-half on first-half increase in sales of 20.3%. Spearheading a very good first half for the Latin American lotteries was Chile's Polla Chilena, where sales increased by 39% half-year on half-year. Sales at Argentina's Lotería Nacional Sociedad del Estado also continued to perform strongly, with the Argentinian national lottery reporting an increase in sales of 26.1% for the first half of 2015, as against the first half of 2014. Elsewhere in Latin America, sales at Brazil's Caixa Econômica Federal grew modestly over the same timespan, while Mexico's Lotería National para la Asistencia Pública held steady.

Continuing its robust first quarter showing, the North American market also enjoyed a strong second quarter, participating North American lotteries reporting an aggregate increase in sales of 6.6% for the period January-June 2015, versus the corresponding revenue period in 2014. Yet again, the standout performer in the North American region was the California Lottery, which oversaw a first-half on first-half increase in sales of 15.1%.

The Kentucky Lottery, Minnesota State Lottery, and the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation all also performed strongly, reporting H1-on-H1 increases in sales of 8.7%, 7.5%, and 7.1% respectively. Similarly, sales at the Connecticut Lottery and Canada's Ontario Lottery and Gaming grew by 6.3% and 6.2% respectively over the same timeframe. Framing the series of positive results reported by the participating North American lotteries was the improving U.S. economy, which saw real gross domestic product - the value of the goods and services produced by the nation's economy less the value of the goods and services used up in production, adjusted for price changes - increase at an annual rate of 3.7% in the second quarter of 2015; this according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis second estimate.

In the Asia Pacific region, the situation was more nuanced. Relative to Q2 2014, sales for Q2 2015 in Asia Pacific moderated, with the result that participating Asia Pacific lotteries recorded an aggregate first-half on first-half increase in sales of 4.6%, down from an aggregate first-quarter on first-quarter increase in sales of 14.3%. The moderation in sales was most notable with respect to the mainland Chinese lotteries, with the China Sports Lottery recording a half-year on half-year increase in sales of 6.2%, and the Chinese Welfare lottery reporting a half-year on half-year increase in sales of 4.4%. The comparatively modest positions of the mainland Chinese lotteries for H1 2015 relative to H1 2014 is apparently attributable to the effect of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the staging of which led to exceptionally large sales for Q2 2014 at the China Sports Lottery in particular. Thus, for example, sales of Guess Lottery (sports betting) were down by 66.8% in Q2 2015, as compared to Q2 2014. Elsewhere in Asia Pacific, Australia's Lotterywest saw its sales increase by 4.8% for the first six months of 2015, as against the first six months of 2014, while Japan's Takara-kuji lottery saw its sales dip slightly over the same timeframe.

The picture in Europe was similarly nuanced. Although participating European lotteries eked out an aggregate increase in sales of 1.6% for H1 2015, as against H1 2014, a number of European lotteries nonetheless recorded stellar double-digit growth. In particular, the Czech Republic's SAZKA a.s., Poland's Totalizator Sportowy, and Hungary's Szerencsejáték Zrt. recorded half-year on half-year increases in sales of 30.1%, 28.5%, and 21.6% respectively. The growth in sales at these lotteries was occasioned by a confluence of factors. At the Czech Republic's SAZKA a.s., for example, the main engine of growth was the Eurojackpot multi-jurisdictional game, which SAZKA a.s. joined in Q3 2014. An increase in the price point of SAZKA a.s.'s flagship lotto game Sportka also affected sales figures. On the other hand, an incredibly high jackpot of HUF 5 billion on Lotto 5/90 (Ötöslottó) at the end of May 2015 resulted in a high sales income at Hungary's Szerencsejáték Zrt.; moreover, this very large jackpot had a knock-on influence on other games such as instant games and Szerencsejáték Zrt.'s Joker game.

At the same time, relatively high prizes in the January 2015-April 2015 period stimulated the sales of the Hungarian lottery's Tippmix (sports betting) game. The results from the central European lotteries were all the more impressive given Europe's continuing lackluster economic performance, which saw seasonally adjusted GDP rising by an anaemic 0.3% in the euro area (EA19) and by a lukewarm 0.4% in the EU28 during the second quarter of 2015 (according to Eurostat). Offsetting these positive results, however, was the performance of Italy's Lottomatica, the third largest lottery in the world. Sales at Lottomatica contracted over the period January-June 2015, as against the corresponding revenue period in 2014; given Lottomatica's position as Europe's largest lottery, this inevitably impacted upon the performance of the European region as a whole

In Africa, the state of affairs was also quite complex. Overall, African lotteries participating in the WLA Quarterly Lottery Sales Indicator reported an aggregate increase in sales of 1.3% for H1 2015, as against H1 2014.

At one end of the scale, Ghana's National Lottery Authority continued its strong run from the first quarter, reporting a first-half on first-half increase in sales of 33.7%. At the other end, sales at the Mauritius National Lottery contracted sharply over H1 2015, as compared to H1 2014.

The performance of the Mauritian National Lottery for the period in question was adversely affected by budgetary measures taken to ban Quick Win cards on the one hand, and by a prohibition of advertising of the lottery on the other, with the ban on quick win games resulting in an exceptional inventory writeoff. In addition, the restructuring of company operations resulted in downsizing that led to an exceptional severance payment.

Set between these two extremes was the performance of lotteries in Morocco, with Loterie Nationale reporting a first-half on first-half increase in sales of 7%, and La Marocaine des Jeux reporting a first-half on first-half increase in sales of 6.9%.

The WLA will continue to track the progress of global lottery sales in future editions of the WLA QLSI.

Once again we thank all WLA member lotteries participating in this initiative, and look forward to bringing you the third quarter 2015 results shortly.

Online Scratchcard Lottery Warning

LONDON, U.K. (September 14, 2015) -- Online scratchcard players are being advised to beware of a money-making scheme that could result in them promoting an illegal lottery.

The warning comes after the Gambling Commission was alerted to plans for a system which involved customers paying a monthly fee in return for digital scratchcards.

Customers are also told they will receive more scratchcards in return for encouraging others to take part - but by doing this the player may commit the offence of promoting an illegal lottery. Under the Gambling Act 2005, the penalty could be up to 51 weeks in jail and/or a fine.

Schafer Systems Inc.

Nick Tofiluk, Commission director of regulation, said: "The law is quite clear on this matter - you cannot promote a lottery for private or commercial gain.

"We would advise anyone thinking about taking part in any scheme that involves purchasing, or encouraging others to purchase, online scratchcards to think very carefully before promoting an illegal lottery to others."

Anyone wanting to promote a lottery in Britain must either have a gambling licence from the Gambling Commission or be registered with their local licensing authority.

Members of the public can check if an organisation has a gambling licence by using the Commission's licence register. If ticket sales are less than £20,000 for a single lottery, or £250,000 from aggregated lotteries, in a calendar year, then the organiser should instead be registered with their local licensing authority. Customers can ask the lottery organiser which local licensing authority they are registered with.

Anyone who believes that an organisation, or person, does not have the necessary permissions to promote a lottery can contact the Commission's via its confidential intelligence line 0121 230 6655.

Consumers may also want to read the Commission's How do I know if a lottery is legal webpage.

The Gambling Commission

The Gambling Commission (the Commission) regulates gambling in the public interest alongside its co-regulators local licensing authorities. It does so by keeping crime out of gambling, by ensuring that gambling is conducted fairly and openly, and by protecting children and vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling. Subject to these overriding public protection objectives, as regulator of the National Lottery the Commission monitors and challenges Camelot to raise the maximum amount for good causes. The Commission also provides independent advice to government on gambling in Britain.

WyoLotto Makes History as Cowboy Draw Celebrates the Game’s First Million Dollar Jackpot Winner

CHEYENNE, Wyoming (September 14, 2015) -- Week after week, records were broken as Cowboy Draw’s™ jackpot climbed to unprecedented heights. WyoLotto™ players around the state continued to play and win with $1,000 tickets, but the jackpot for Wyoming’s own game proved to be as elusive as WyoLotto’s jackpotalope mascot, Yolo.

History was made during Monday’s drawing as one lucky ticket laid claim to Cowboy Draw’s first million dollar jackpot. The winning ticket was purchased on Sunday, September 13 at Ridley’s located at 300 East Wyoming Boulevard in Casper, and was the fifth jackpot-winning ticket sold for Wyoming’s own game. The last Cowboy Draw jackpot winner was announced on June 4, 2015.

The final jackpot amount (advertised at $975,000) totaled $1,000,022 and shattered the previous record jackpot amount of $628,630 announced on April 16, 2015.

The winning numbers for Monday’s drawing were 5, 10, 16, 23, and 31.

Lottery Release Statement in Relation to Lottery Ticket Dispute

RICHMOND, Virginia (September 9, 2015) -- Recently the Virginia Lottery was notified by Ms. Ardella Newman about discrepancies regarding a series of lottery tickets she purchased from one of our ticket dispensing machines in Northern Virginia. With the assistance of our ticket vendor, the Virginia Lottery has concluded its investigation and determined that the original reports published by media were missing information key to the story. The investigation has concluded that there are actually two different issues.

Classified Advertisement
La Fleurs 2015 Compendium

The case in question involved a game that Ms. Newman believed entitled her to a $20,000 prize. The investigation has concluded that Ms. Newman was actually trying to cash two separate tickets, the lower portion of one ticket and the top portion of another ticket. Based on the ticket codes we obtained from our ticket vendor, we have determined that the top ticket was not a winner, but the small piece of the bottom ticket would have been a $4.00 winning ticket if Ms. Newman had the entire ticket.

The Lottery rules for the game clearly address this issue:

Virginia’s Instant Game Lottery 1552 “5x The Money” Final Rules for Game Operation

1. Ticket Validation Requirements:

2. The Ticket must have been issued by the Lottery in an authorized manner. The Ticket must be intact and must not, in whole or in part, be defectively printed, produced in error, counterfeit, unreadable, incomplete, mis-registered, defective, torn, stolen, mutilated, altered, reconstituted, tampered with or previously paid.

Our investigation also determined that the machine in question was responsible for the torn tickets. There are clear rules that govern tickets of this nature and the responsibility of the Virginia Lottery.

11VAC5-41-120. Replacement of Ticket.

If a misprinted or otherwise defective ticket is purchased, the agency's only liability or responsibility shall be to replace the misprinted ticket with an unplayed ticket of equal price from the same or another current game or to refund the purchase price of the defective ticket.

  1. The tickets presented by Ms. Newman were valid tickets that were torn, apparently when they were dispensed from Lottery self-service machine.
  2. The claim made by Ms. Newman involved two tickets. It would be a violation of the rules to award Ms. Newman a prize for mis-matching parts of two tickets. The integrity of our games is our highest priority which is why we have rules that govern each game. It would be both unethical and unfair to all players to violate the rules for the benefit of one player.
  3. Had Ms. Newman returned the tickets to the store or to the Lottery unplayed, she would have received a full refund or replacement tickets.

The second case was not reported in the media and once again involved two tickets that Ms. Newman claimed to be worth a prize of $52.00. It was clear to our customer service representative and our investigators that this too was an altered ticket where someone attempted to tape together two parts of separate tickets to claim a prize. Ms. Newman admitted to our Lottery investigator that she taped the two tickets together.

This is a clear violation of Lottery rules and in this case, the law:

§ 58.1-4017. Alteration and forgery; presentation of counterfeit or altered ticket or share; penalty. Any person who forges, alters or fraudulently makes any lottery ticket or share with intent to present for payment or to transfer to another person to be presented for payment or knowingly presents for payment or transfers to another person to be presented for payment such forged, altered or fraudulently made counterfeit lottery ticket or share sold pursuant to this chapter is guilty of a Class 6 felony.

This second claim of Ms. Newman’s involved altered non-winning tickets to make them appear to be winning tickets. The Virginia Lottery is still reviewing this case to determine if additional actions are necessary.

EquiLottery Joins NASPL as Associate Member

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (September 9, 2015) -- After just over a year in business as North America's newest draw game solution, EquiLottery has officially joined the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) as an Associate Member. Joining other members of the lottery vendor community, EquiLottery looks to expand on the momentum it has built since July of 2014 when the lottery game based on the results of a daily live horse race was first introduced to the general public.

"We are thrilled to be an official member of an organization as well regarded as NASPL," said EquiLottery President & CEO Brad Cummings. "This membership is an investment in our future, and even more importantly, an investment in an industry so dear to us. We look forward to this being the beginning of a long term relationship with NASPL and the many lotteries they represent."

A daily $2 live action draw game based on the results of live horse racing, EquiLottery represents a next generation in draw games that makes the drawing as much a part of the lottery experience as the actual winnings. Research conducted over the summer of 2015 shows that players are drawn to the live action excitement of horse racing, love the ability to watch races on their mobile devices and would play often with minimal cannibalization of other lottery games. Testing also shows that many game attributes specifically appeal to the millennial generation.

"We are excited to have new vendors enter the lottery space as state and provincial lotteries look for ways to expand their game portfolios and increase their contributions to the good causes they support," said NASPL Vendor Relations Director Jake Coy. "With this in mind, EquiLottery is a welcome addition to our vendor community."
