IGT Introduces Aurora, Its New, Comprehensive Solution for Lottery Growth


LONDON, U.K. (October 13, 2015) -- Ending months of anticipation, International Game Technology PLC (IGT) (NYSE: IGT) will unveil its new high-performance, high-reliability lottery solution, Aurora, at the NASPL 2015 trade show in Dallas, Texas, on Oct. 13.

"It's the dawn of a new era," announced Marco Tasso, Senior Vice President, Global Product Marketing, Lottery, IGT.

Aurora builds on the success of IGT's Enterprise Series system – the most prevalent central system and back-office application solution for lotteries in the world – to respond to rapidly changing market conditions and lotteries' needs for more agility, greater interoperability, and a truly omnichannel experience. The Aurora suite of smart, open solutions was designed to define the environment for current and future lottery growth in terms of a technological platform.

From the ground up, Aurora's architecture is loosely coupled, providing an entirely new level of system integration and flexibility to seamlessly integrate to third-party applications or games. This Service Oriented Architecture will separate Aurora's game engines from the business logic, so making changes to a game will not affect the business end, allowing lotteries to get solutions into production faster. Aurora also offers lotteries more agility when executing on key business decisions, and sound, actionable analytics to help them make those decisions. Aurora's advanced business intelligence portfolio allows data to be integrated, mined, and visualized, ultimately helping to drive results for the lottery.


By rearchitecting its solution, IGT's Aurora allows lotteries to seamlessly connect all the different channels in which they operate and enables them to know their players, communicate with them, and give them value wherever and whenever they play. Aurora extends down to the point of sale, where a new framework provides increased flexibility to deploy applications across a full suite of terminals and devices.

Other benefits include a brand-new, browser- and device-independent back-office Web User Interface (UI). The UI is role-based, so that starting with the data visualizations users see on the initial portal, and continuing to the specific tasks they see to do their job, the UI will look different to different classes of lottery users.

Scientific Games to Provide Bally Systems Solutions to Tin Lizzie Gaming Resort in South Dakota


LAS VEGAS, Nevada (October 13, 2015)  -- Scientific Games Corporation (NASDAQ: SGMS) ("Scientific Games" or "the Company") today announced Tin Lizzie Gaming Resort has selected the full suite of Bally Systems solutions for its property in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Tin Lizzie will install the Bally iVIEW and award-winning iVIEW Display Manager (DM) with Elite Bonusing Suite (EBS) across 280 slot machines to drive excitement at its property. With iVIEW DM and EBS, casino operators can provide self-service player-account access, marketing messages and secondary bonus games on the main game screen - all without interrupting play.

The property will install the Company's Beverage Ordering Service System (BOSS), which allows players to order both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages right from the game screen without interrupting play, regardless of the device manufacturer.

The property will take advantage of Power Progressive Strike and Power Paytable Progressive, two new progressive jackpot EBS applications. Tin Lizzie will also deploy the Bally SDS slot management system to manage casino, slot, and hospitality data. SDS provides crucial game-monitoring data in real-time and fully integrates with other systems, including the Bally CMP player-tracking system, which the casino also selected.

Additionally, Tin Lizzie will utilize Bally Live Floor View, a powerful analytical system that connects to existing SDS and ACSC slot systems to provide customers with graphical and detailed information on current activity happening on the slot floor, and the Bally CoolSign media-management solution to deliver integrated communication and marketing on the property's digital displays.

Pollard Banknote Co-Chief Executive Officer Doug Pollard Inducted Into Lottery Industry Hall of Fame


WINNIPEG, Manitoba (October 15, 2015) – Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) (“Pollard Banknote”) is pleased to announce that Doug Pollard, Co-Chief Executive Officer, has been inducted into the Public Gaming Research Institute (“PGRI”) Lottery Industry Hall of Fame. A ceremony to induct this year’s new members was held during the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (“NASPL”) 2015 annual conference and trade show in Dallas, Texas on Thursday, October 15, 2015.

Since 1997, Doug has worked closely with his brothers, John Pollard, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Gordon Pollard, Executive Chair of the company’s Board. The three brothers have built on the success of their father, Lawrence Pollard, steering the company from its beginnings in the Canadian Lottery business in the 1980s to become the thriving, global leader it is today.

After 14 years of successfully leading the company through a variety of new business ventures, Doug was appointed Co-Chief Executive Officer in 2011. Florida Lottery Has $1 Billion in Scratch-Off Sales in First 100 Days

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (October 13, 2015 – The Florida Lottery announced that Scratch-Off ticket sales have exceeded $1 billion thus far this fiscal year, which began July 1. This achievement was reached 11 days sooner than the previous record-setting fiscal year.

Success like this proves our model is working,” said Florida Lottery Interim Secretary Tom Delacenserie. “By offering bigger games players get to experience more winning moments, Lottery retailers earn higher commissions and most importantly, more revenue is transferred to education.

The Lottery recognizes the importance of offering a unique product mix that appeals to Florida’s diverse player population. This is evident by the 20 different Scratch-Off games currently producing more than $1 million in weekly sales.


Florida has been an industry trailblazer with the superior performance of its high price point Scratch-Off games, while keeping a balance of terrific game offerings at the low- to mid-tier price points as well. 

Since June 2011, the Florida Lottery has increased Scratch-Off sales by 68.7 percent, representing a gain of more than $1.5 billion, or an average increase of more than $300 million per year. During that period, Scratch-Off sales went from 54 percent of the Lottery’s total sales to accounting for over 66 percent of total sales.  Scratch off games generated more than $632 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in fiscal year 2014-2015.

At any given time, the Lottery offers up to 80 different Scratch-Off games, ranging in price from $1 to $25, with top prizes from $1,000 to $10 million. Florida Lottery Scratch-Off games are available for purchase at any of the more than 13,000 Lottery retailers statewide.

Since 1988, the Florida Lottery has launched more than 1,000 Scratch-Off games, generating nearly $10 billion for education, while Scratch-Off players have won more than $25 billion in prizes, including creating more than 450 millionaires.


The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $28 billion to education and sending more than 700,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Florida Lottery reinvests nearly 97 percent of its revenue back into Florida's economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,000 Florida retailers and transfers to education. Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have paid more than $48.5 billion in prizes and made more than 1,800 people millionaires.

Texas Lottery Awarded World Lottery Association’s Level 2 Responsible Gaming Certification

AUSTIN, Texas (October 13, 2015) – The Texas Lottery’s responsible gaming initiatives have been recognized by the prestigious World Lottery Association (WLA) with Level 2 certification.

The Texas Lottery is a $4 billion enterprise that has generated more than $1 billion in revenue annually for the state for the past 12 years,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “As a business of this size, we take responsible growth seriously and are committed to the World Lottery Association’s principles of responsible gaming.

As part of its responsible gaming initiatives, the Texas Lottery includes its “Play Responsibly” message on all tickets, advertising materials and its website. The Texas Lottery is also a Silver member of the National Council on Problem Gambling and participates in its holiday campaign to prevent underage gambling.


The Texas Lottery joined WLA in 2014 and attained Level 1 certification that year. To achieve Level 2 certification, the Texas Lottery demonstrated its commitment to the WLA’s Responsible Gaming Framework by completing a comprehensive self-assessment and gap analysis of its policies that was submitted to the WLA's Independent Assessment Panel of international experts in the field of corporate responsibility.

The WLA is an international trade organization that represents 147 lotteries from 82 countries on all five continents. These member organizations must be licensed or authorized to conduct lotteries by the jurisdiction in which they reside.

"Looking Beyond One's Own Nose" at the Sixth NOVOMATIC Responsible Gaming Symposium


VIENNA / GUMPOLDSKIRCHEN, Austria (October 13, 2015) --NOVOMATIC Group's sixth consecutive Responsible Gaming Symposium was staged at Novomatic Forum in Vienna on the 13th of October 2015. Following the exciting and challenging key lecture by Prof. Marazziti, Laura DaSilva went to the heart of the matter: "Responsible gaming is not only more than obligation we must take seriously and a responsible task for the gambling industry. Responsible gaming can be fun, too."

In this sense, responsible gaming should also – and predominantly – be seen as a service to customers providing them with relaxing entertainment in a secure environment. It should therefore be our goal to select the right strategy to meet these requirements.

Dr. Monika Poeckh-Racek, the Head of Corporate CSR at NOVOMATIC, endorsed this initiative and highlighted the efforts by NOVOMATIC and its operative subsidiaries to this effect.

Oklahoma Lottery Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary with New Logo


OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (October 12, 2015) – The Oklahoma Lottery is celebrating its 10 year anniversary by unveiling several new logos. The new main logo depicts Oklahoma’s official state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, soaring across a tri-colour profile of the Sooner State. The rebranding also includes new logos for Scratchers, Pick 3 and Cash 5.

The Oklahoma Lottery released its very first set of scratchers on October 12, 2005. Since that day, the Lottery has contributed more than $693 million to Oklahoma education programs throughout the state and that number continues to grow every day.

Executive Director Rollo Redburn said, “It has been an honour to watch this agency grow and become what it is today.” He went on to say that, “More than ever our staff is focused on improving games for our Players and always searching for new ways to increase our contributions to Oklahoma education programs.”

Contributions to education for the most recent fiscal year totaled more than $60 million, which was $2.8 million more than what was appropriated. Redburn said, “Each year the Lottery strives to not only meet, but exceed expectations. We’re proud of what we have accomplished so far and we have big plans for the years to come.”

Tennessee Lottery Posts Record First Quarter for Education Funding

  • $84.6 Million Transfer Highest for Q1 Since Inception
  • Total Lottery Funding for Education Now Exceeds $3.5 Billion


NASHVILLE, Tennessee (October 15, 2015) -- The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation today announced results of its first quarter, which produced the highest Lottery for Education Proceeds of any first quarter since its inception in January 2004.  The period from July 1, 2015, through September 30, 2015, saw a return of $84.6 million, a 10.8% increase over the same period last fiscal year.


The first quarter also saw the highest first quarter total sales since inception, at $361.7 million, a 6.5% increase over the same period last fiscal year.

Total Lottery funding for education-related programs in Tennessee, including funds used for scholarships, grants, and after-school programs, now exceeds $3.5 billion.

This was a remarkably robust quarter for the Lottery,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation. “We saw growth across all of our products, helping to post record returns. The best news, of course, is that the funds raised will benefit Tennessee students and their families across the state.” 

Since January 20, 2004, nearly one million scholarships, grants and dual-enrollment awards have been awarded to Tennessee students. Lottery funds are also used to support other education-related activities, such as after-school programs, an ongoing project to make schools more energy efficient, and the new Tennessee Promise initiative.

In addition to the educational beneficiaries, players have won more than $8.7 billion in prizes, and Lottery retailer partners have earned more than $896 million in retailer commissions.

European Commission Funds Betting Industry-Backed Player Education Project

BRUSSELS, Belgium (October 9, 2015) -- The joint EU Athletes and regulated betting sector’s pioneering player betting integrity education programme has received a huge boost in funding from the European Commission. The five-year-old programme has received  €488,305, ensuring that it continues for another 2 years, kicking off in January 2016 until the end of 2017.

EU Athletes programme is backed by the private betting sector trade bodies, the RGA, EGBA and ESSA, which between them will also commit additional funding on top of what has already been committed by the European Commission.

Jean-François Reymond, General Secretary of EU Athletes, welcomed the European Commission’s decision, stating: “This is the second allocation of significant funding by the Commission to this project. It’s a recognition of the success of our partnership with the betting sector. It will allow us to improve our education tool set, enhance our outreach programme directly to players and also increase the visibility of the #PROtectIntegrity campaign. Players associations are in the front line to preserve the integrity of sporting competitions in Europe.

Bailey & Glasser File Class Action Against DraftKings

BOSTON, Massachusetts (October 13, 2015) -- DraftKings, the fantasy sports behemoth whose ads are everywhere this football season, offers new participants a match of their initial deposit when they first sign up to DraftKings' website.  DraftKings' recruits new players with a promise that those who sign up "today" will receive an exclusive, limited-time 100% deposit match. In a class action lawsuit filed today in federal court in Boston, a Massachusetts man claims that DraftKings' deposit matching promises are themselves a fantasy.

For example, DraftKings represents that when a new player deposits $600 in a DraftKings account, the promised deposit match of an additional $600 "will already be available to you." DraftKings' internet videos promise that when a new player signs up, he (participants are overwhelmingly male) will "automatically get" the additional matching deposit. But John Roddy and Elizabeth Ryan, the Bailey & Glasser lawyers who filed the suit, said that a new player who deposits $600 expecting to have $1,200 immediately "available to him" learns only after the fact that the "deposit match" is illusory.

The only way to actually get the "free" deposit match is to pay thousands more in entry fees to play contests, to earn points that are converted to dollars very, very slowly. A player depositing $600 would have to pay at least $15,000 in entry fees to realize the promised $600 deposit match. And DraftKings' requires the new player to spend that additional $15,000 within four months of putting down that first $600.

The suit alleges that, "as designed, DraftKings' promise of a deposit match that will 'already be available to you' upon registration as a new Player is a blatant deception, and its undisclosed condition requiring players to spend 25 times their initial deposit within four months to realize the 100% match DraftKings' promised makes it virtually impossible for the Player to realize upon that promise."

The Boston office of Bailey & Glasser is handling the suit, which seeks to hold DraftKings to its promise, that is, immediately matching the deposits placed by new players when they are first recruited by DraftKings. The suit is called Wicksman v DraftKings, Inc., and is pending in the US District Court, District of Massachusetts, Civil Docket Number 1:15-cv-13559.

ESSA Detects 18 Cases of Suspicious Betting in Q3

BRUSSELS, Belgium (October 13, 2015) – Eighteen cases of suspicious betting patterns were detected in the third quarter of 2015 by the sports betting integrity association, ESSA, which represents many of the world’s largest regulated betting operators. Whilst these figures represents a slight fall from those detected by ESSA in Q1 (24 cases) and Q2 (23 cases), it highlights the continuing threat to sport, consumers and betting operators from fraud linked to the manipulation of sporting events.

ESSA’s members raised a total of 73 alerts between 1 July through to 30 September 2015. After detailed examination, 18 were found to be suspicious and reported to the relevant regulatory body for further investigation. Tennis again constituted the highest number of alerts (72%) reflecting a trend identified in Q1 and Q2.


The figures show an on-going need to continue to monitor integrity issues within the sports sector. Whilst we work closely with a number of committed and effective sports and regulatory bodies, there remains the need to see sports governance move up the political agenda. The recently agreed UK Action Plan shows how all stakeholders can work together with a common aim.” stated ESSA Chairman, Mike O’Kane.

Such issues will be the focus of the discussion around match-fixing and sporting integrity that will take place at ESSA’s betting integrity event in the European Parliament on 14 October. ESSA will use that event to spell out the association’s vision of how best to protect sport and betting markets from match-fixing, and to strengthen working in partnership with other stakeholders.

The event will be hosted by UK MEP Dan Dalton, with speakers including Professor Ben Van Rompuy of the ASSER Institute, along with representatives from the British Gambling Commission, player associations and sports governing bodies. Australian Football Clubs Sign Up To Promote Responsible Gambling

MELBOURNE, Victoria (October 2015) -- Six Victorian AFL clubs have pledged to protect young people from the risks of gambling by signing a charter at the MCG today.

Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation Jane Garrett congratulated the clubs, including 2015 Premiers Hawthorn, who signed up at the launch of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (12-18 October).

The Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and Essendon committed to the charter for the first time, joining Collingwood, Hawthorn, North Melbourne and the A-League’s Melbourne Victory soccer club.

As part of the charter, clubs will keep gambling away from its social and fundraising activities with young people. They agree not to provide gambling inducements for awards and prizes and to promote responsible gambling to players, members and visitors.

The clubs also pledged not to make sponsorship deals with sports betting agencies which would see them promoting gambling to young people under 18.


Where participating clubs own or operate poker machines, they also commit to promoting the Gambler’s Help venue support program and help services.

During the AFL season, an average of 300,000 fans turn out each weekend to watch a game and more than a million people follow these clubs on social media.

Sports betting companies have spent $149 million on advertising so far this year, up by $44.5 million from the same time last year, with the biggest increase in digital advertising.

The charter is part of the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation’s Gambling’s not a Game program, which encourages sporting clubs to educate members, officials and fans about the risks of gambling.
