Historic Powerball Roll Up Proves to be a Boon to New York Businesses

Retailers Have Earned More Than $9.36 Million in Commissions in 10-Week Roll Up Period

logo

NEW YORK (January 12, 2016) -- The New York State Gaming Commission today announced that New York businesses licensed by its Division of the Lottery to sell tickets for tomorrow’s historic $1.4 billion Powerball drawing have earned a record $9,662,833 in commissions during the 10-week roll up period that began on November 7, 2015. Lottery retailers earn $.12 on each Powerball ticket sold.

“The lottery is proud to support business of all sizes across NYS. This historic jackpot has led to record commissions for retailers and should help these businesses thrive,” said Gardner Gurney, Director of the Division of the Lottery.

Stewart’s Shops Spokeswoman Maria D’Amelia said a jackpot this size affects business in a number of positive ways.

In addition to the positive economic impact, we appreciate the buzz factor that comes with a Lottery jackpot of this size. Our stores are filled with customers staying that extra minute or two to share stories about a past Lottery experience and dream aloud about ‘what-if.’ It helps us build on the sense of community that’s so important to our brand.

Total Lottery sales, including Powerball, for the current fiscal year up $310,000,000 over last fiscal year, which translates to an increase of $18,000,000 in commissions for the same time period.

NOTE: National media inquiries regarding Powerball should be directed to Kelly Cripe, Media Relations Director at the Texas Lottery: kelly.cripe@lottery.state.tx.us or at 512-344-5131.

 About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.11 billion in fiscal year 2014-2015 to help support education in New York State.

The Lottery’s contribution represents 14 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education.

It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.

Maine State Lottery Launch Scientific Games-Developed Player Loyalty Program and Mobile App

Company’s Interactive Solutions Are Innovating New Conveniences for U.S. Lottery Players and Retailers

Logo

LAS VEGAS and ATLANTA (January 13, 2016) – Scientific Games Corporation (“Scientific Games” or the “Company”) today announced that the Maine State Lottery (the “Lottery”) launched its new player rewards program, RewardMe Lottery Club, through the Company’s Loyalty Plus solution. For the first time, lottery players in Maine can participate in a points-based rewards program that allows them to enter their non-winning instant lottery games online, accumulate points and redeem points for prizes and merchandise in the Company’s Points for Prizes online store. The RewardMe Lottery Club supporting mobile app, developed by Scientific Games for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, may be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play store at no cost. With 13 mobile apps released and seven full loyalty rewards programs currently in use by U.S. lotteries—more than any other lottery provider—the Company’s interactive solutions are inventing conveniences for U.S. lottery players and retailers.

Tim Poulin, Deputy Director, Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations said, “The mobile app is really a key component of our new RewardMe Lottery Club. Our players can use it to quickly check their instant and draw game tickets to see if they are winners, and it allows them to scan their non-winning instant games directly into their rewards account with their mobile phone. We’re offering our players the same convenience on the go they’ve come to expect with other consumer products, and it looks like they’re enjoying it so far.

The RewardMe Lottery Club app can also store a player’s favourite draw game numbers and produce a barcode on their mobile screen that can be scanned at the retail checkout to print their lottery ticket.

Michael Lightman, Vice President, Lottery Interactive for Scientific Games, said, “With every rewards program we create and every mobile app that goes live, we learn more and more about consumer convenience and retail efficiency. We designed this app to provide players in Maine with an easy way to engage with the Lottery and its instant and draw games, and to provide support to the more than 1,200 lottery retailers in the state.

Scientific Games began serving the Maine State Lottery in 1975 as its instant game provider and has provided systems technology to the Lottery since 1985. In the last year (FY 2014 to FY 2015), the Lottery experienced 9.9 percent growth in full-line retail sales, ranking it No. 2 in the U.S. for full line percentage growth.

Since the first drawing in 1974, the Lottery has paid over $2.2 billion in prizes to players and more than $335 million in sales commissions and bonuses have been paid to Lottery retailers. Over the last 40 years, the Maine State Lottery has transferred over $1.24 billion to Maine State Government's General Fund to benefit the citizens of Maine, including general purpose aid for local schools, higher education, health services, as well as a variety of other programs.

Loto-Québec Moves to Electronic Draws

MONTRÉAL, Quebec, Canada (January 12, 2016) – Beginning on February 1, all Loto-Québec draws will be performed electronically. Only the main draws of Canada-wide lotteries like Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max will continue to be performed using ball machines. This change to the draw procedure is part of a broader plan to optimize and modernize lottery sector processes, a plan that has been implemented by the Corporation over the past few years.

By choosing to perform its draws electronically ‒ electronic draws are already used for the lotteries Tout ou rien, Plinko®, Eldorado and Roue de fortune Éclair as well as for Lotto Max Maxmillions draws and Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize draws ‒, Loto-Québec is following in the footsteps of several other Canadian and American lottery corporations.

In addition to their increased security, electronic draws enable customers to obtain the results faster. This modification will save nearly a half-million dollars every year for the Corporation, particularly in terms of equipment maintenance.

A trustworthy and secure method

Electronic draws are based on the same principles as ball machine draws in that the procedures are equally secure and stringent, and that the results are completely random.

To perform its electronic draws, Loto-Québec uses a computerized random number generator, tested and certified by two independent specialized firms: “This system is designed to produce numbers as randomly as a ball machine, and the results are verified by independent auditors using their own systems that are in no way connected to Loto-Québec’s system,” stated Simon Patenaude, President of Lottery Operations for the Corporation.

About Loto-Québec

Loto-Québec’s mission is to responsibly and efficiently manage games of chance in a controlled and measured fashion, in the interest of all Quebecers. Entertainment is at the heart of its activities.

In 2015, Loto-Québec paid out 77 prizes worth $1 million or more.

American Gaming Association and Clubs Australia Announce Partnership

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (December 11, 2015) -- Clubs Australia and the American Gaming Association (AGA) today united to call for a global approach to tackling the unregulated, unsafe and un-taxed illegal online gambling market.

The two organisations also committed themselves to forming an international alliance on the issue, in which both parties will collaborate to raise awareness of the risks of illicit gambling websites, and work on measures to prevent their spread.

It is estimated that US and Australian residents currently spend $4 billion and $1.2 billion respectively each year on illegal overseas gambling websites.

Not only do these illegal websites deprive both Australian and US Governments of tax revenue and employment, their operation greatly increases the risks of money laundering and terrorism financing.

Clubs Australia Executive Director Anthony Ball said that it was well past time to take the threat of these illegal gambling operations seriously.

The proliferation of illegal online gambling is a scourge that needs to be tackled by governments world-wide, in association with legal and regulated gaming operators,” he said.

Put simply, these sites are unethical and unsafe. There are no age verification checks, no harm-minimisation measures, and the revenue they generate goes to offshore tax havens – not back to the community.

AGA Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Sara Rayme said that there is a clear difference between the illegal operators and the licensed, regulated industry.

Our partnership with Clubs Australia will help to shine a spotlight on shady outfits that don’t create jobs, contribute vital tax revenue, protect players or serve as strong community partners.

As part of the international partnership, both organisations will work together to provide details of these illegal operations to governments in order for these illicit sites to be shut down.

They will also call on their respective governments to ramp up efforts to target these companies.

Clubs Australia will also call for moves to ensure that Australian financial institutions that facilitate transactions with illegal operators put a stop to the practice.

The partnership between AGA and Clubs Australia also forms part of the AGA’s “Stop Illegal Gambling – Play it Safe” initiative, which focuses on four key areas of illegal gambling: illegal sports betting; black market machines; Internet sweepstakes cafes; and illegal online betting.

Fantasy Sports Firm Fanaments Secures UK License

LONDON, U.K. (January 12, 2016) -- Fanaments, the only multi-sport fantasy provider in Europe, has been awarded their UK betting license.

In contrast to industry competition, the Icelandic-based firm offers users not only a variety of football competition-based tournaments, including the English Premier League, La Liga and UEFA Champions League, but NBA basketball, MMA and PGA golf as well.

Since their initial launch in August of last year, Fanaments has grown by at least 100 percent month-on-month having paid out over €300,000 in winnings. Football and perhaps more surprisingly, their offering of basketball are the main factors for the exponential increase in growth.

The operator, who plans to capitalise on first-mover advantage, is confident that their real time data product, user incentives, variety of games and their large operational jurisdiction will ensure they are always a step in front of their competitors.

The Maltese-licensed platform, headed up by co-founders Bragi Ægisson (CEO), Arnor Davidsson (CPO) and Gudmundur Sveinsson (CTO), allows users to choose a different team each game day.

Ægisson explained: “It is very exciting that we are the only multi-sport fantasy service on the continent. It was clear to us that there was an over reliance on football and so our objective is to satisfy the craving for additional sports.”

Our launch co-insides very nicely with prominent sporting fixtures this week. London will be treated to NBA’s Magic v Raptors game as well as the mammoth Premier League tie between Liverpool and Manchester United on Sunday.”

Fanaments are expecting a strong reception, to what is a high-profile week within the sporting calendar, as we aim to inject further excitement into a variety of sports events.”

Spin & Bet, which takes its name and inspiration from the extremely popular Spin & Go poker format that launched just over a year ago on PokerStars, gives sports bettors the chance to multiply the odds of their bets – and potential winnings – by up to 10 times the original amount.

"We're really excited by the launch of Spin & Bet, which we believe is set to be the game-changing innovation in sports betting this year," said Guy Templer, Director of Group Business Development and Strategy. "We're convinced our customers will love the new product as it brings a new and exciting dimension to betting for sports fans around the world. This is only the first in a number of exciting, unique products that we expect to introduce in 2016 to distinguish the BetStars brand from its competitors."

To use the new Spin & Bet feature, bettors simply choose their bet from the available markets, enter their stake, and click 'Spin & Bet'. The bet will be placed and an animation will display the potentially enhanced odds and potential winnings, with the result being one of five multiples: 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 5x or 10x.  When playing Spin & Bet, 10% of the bettor's stake goes towards an enhanced odds jackpot.

For example, a £10 bet at 2/1 would become a £9 Spin & Bet with the chance for the odds to increase to as much as 20/1 with a potential payout of £189 (£9 x 20 + £9 stake back).

BETSTARS MARKETING CAMPAIGN

Spin & Bet will form the focus of an international marketing campaign to launch the BetStars brand over the coming months, which is anticipated to begin over the next week. This campaign will feature a significant TV presence, including during televised football matches of the English Premier League.

The Gamechanger TV advert that will be aired in the UK can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynuCsqE4_YQ.

Spin & Bet is now available on the BetStars.com, BetStars.eu and BetStars.uk websites, and on dedicated iOS and Android devices. Amaya expects that BetStars, including its Spin & Bet feature, will be offered in additional jurisdictions through 2016. BetStars is not available in the United States, Canada or certain other jurisdictions.

Organisers Advise Early Registration for #londonbaby2016

LONDON, U.K. (January 11, 2016) - Organisers of London Baby, the best attended networking party on the first night of ICE, are advising people to sign up sooner rather than later if they want to join the crowd at Café de Paris.

Last year the demand for the event was so high that Sports Betting Community (SBC) and iGaming Business (iGB) had to close off registration early as delegate numbers were stretching capacity at the luxury venue on Leicester Square.

iGaming Business’ Shona O’Donnell commented: “London Baby always gets a fun crowd but last year the numbers signing up were phenomenal. So this year we are advising people to register their interest nice and early.

Registration is open HERE.

SBC founder Rasmus Sojmark added: “If firms want to be sure of entry, then they could also take out a sponsorship package for the evening. We still have opportunities for firms that want to treat their customers at VIP tables with the added benefit of promoting your brand over ICE week.

It is through the support of the event’s sponsors that London Baby is able to be held every year. This year’s sponsors are Secure Trading, Iforium, Ali Quantum Gaming, Magnet Gaming, W2 Global Payments, Viks.com and XB Net.

Phil Parry, CEO at regular London Baby sponsor Iforium, commented: “Iforium are pleased to support London Baby again in 2016. It’s by far the most enjoyable evening during ICE and gives us the perfect opportunity to engage with our partners and promote our presence at the show during one of the key weeks in the gambling industry’s calendar.

Consultant Austin Carney, who worked with one of last year’s main sponsors, described the sponsorship packages as ‘by far the best value opportunity in and around the ICE Show’. Special VIP only tables are also available for those wanting to provide customer hospitality in a fun environment.

Anyone wishing to get more information on the sponsorship opportunities should contact SBC’s Tiana Sinclair on tiana@sbcnews.co.uk.
