New York Lottery & Video Gaming Smash Records with $9.69 Billion in Sales/Net Win

Total Lottery and VLT revenue up 5.8 percent over 2014/15

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 22, 2016) -- The New York State Gaming Commission announced today that New York Lottery sales and Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) net win in Fiscal Year 2015/16 broke all previous years’ records with a combined total of $9.69 billion in revenue. All profits go directly to Aid to Education for New York’s public schools – meaning the New York Lottery earned a record total of $3.3 billion for distribution to all school districts in the state.

On all metrics, the New York Lottery continues to be the most profitable lottery on the continent and underscores the success of New York’s smart gaming policies,” said Commission Executive Director Robert Williams.

This is great news for taxpayers and students across the state, as it provides New Yorkers a fun and exciting way to give back to their communities.

Traditional lottery games grew by 6.2 percent with a record $7.7 billion in sales in FY 2015/16 over the previous year’s $7.25 billion. This encompasses draw games such as Mega Millions, Powerball, Cash 4 Life, Lotto, Numbers, Win 4, Take Five, Pick 10, Quick Draw, and Instant Games. Draw game sales grew to $3.79 billion in FY 2015/16 from $3.49 billion in 2014/15, an increase of 8.6 percent. Instant games, known as “scratch-offs” grew to $3.91 billion in FY 2015/16 from $3.76 billion in 2014/15, an increase of 4 percent.

“We thank the Lottery’s 17,000 retailers, including thousands of small, independent businesses across the state, for their continued hard work and support in achieving this new record,” said Executive Director Williams.

VLT net win shot up 4.3 percent with a record $1.98 billion in FY 2015/16 over 2014/15’s $1.90 billion. Resorts World Casino New York City and Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway both brought in approximately $30 million more over the prior year (a 3.7 percent and 5.7 percent increase, respectively).

Upstate VLT facilities grew by a total of $21 million, highlighted by Batavia Downs’ 10.7 percent growth over the prior year.

A district-by-district breakdown of the Aid to Education distribution can be found here.

New York Lottery and VLT revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding. The Lottery’s contribution represents 14 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New Murphy USA All-In-One Display Leads to Double-Digit Sales Increases

ADAIR, Iowa (April 25, 2016) -- Steven Desautels of Murphy USA is a leader on the retail side of lottery industry, regularly speaking at LaFleurs Conferences and lottery sales meetings sharing his insight for increasing lottery sales at retail.

"You may say it's just a nickel (commission), but lottery customers never buy just a single $1 lottery ticket and leave.  They buy $5 to $10 worth of lottery tickets, plus many other of our c-store items" explains Desautels. Desautels (AKA "Nickels") has been managing the company's Lottery & General Merchandise categories since November 2011 and his positive year over year sales results have definitely helped Murphy USA become one of the fastest growing U.S. convenience store chains.

Murphy All-in-One

Desautels has been working with Schafer Systems Inc. since 2013.  He was looking for a lottery display he could use in his all his stores across the U.S.  He found that nearly all states had different ways of displaying their lottery products that made it difficult for Murphy to maintain a consistent feel for their stores across state lines.

He was also wanting to increase the number of facings he sold and wanted some lighting options to draw more attention to the display in the prime space he had available.

The "All-In-One" unit fits the bill.  Schafer designed a coloured Ticket Menu Board that features LED lights for longevity and low electrical use.

This sits on top of a lightweight literature holder that holds up to 12 play slips or brochures.  A lightweight, reduced height and depth Promoter(R) was designed to attach to the back of the display or sit elsewhere in the store.

Installs of the new 36-Game All-In-One started in late 2015. To date, all stores using the All-In-One have seen year-over-year double-digit instant sales increases and some of the highest instant ticket sales in the entire Murphy USA chain.

With the unit being on display at the Murphy USA Sales Manager convention in January, leadership is excited about the new display options.

More installs are happening every week, which is anticipated to help create to the highest lottery sales year ever for Murphy USA!

“On the Spot Fun™” with Keno Now on Sale Statewide

Keno — A whole new kind of fun with lots of ways to play, lots of ways to win!

ROCKY HILL, Connecticut (April 25, 2016) – Today, the CT Lottery officially introduced Keno to Connecticut through nearly 2,900 lottery retailers statewide.  Keno, a popular lottery game in many states, including New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, will help over the next several years to drive the Lottery’s profits, which go directly to the State’s General Fund and have risen steadily over the last six years.

According to Anne M. Noble, President and CEO of the CT Lottery, “The Lottery’s success in recent years is attributable to paying careful attention to what our players want when they choose to gamble. "

"In Connecticut, people like and play a variety of lottery games, with scratch and traditional draw games enjoying many years of success and popularity throughout the state.  Keno is an entirely new way to play the lottery, and is a more social way to enjoy lottery games.

Players and lottery retailers alike have long awaited the sale of Keno in Connecticut.  “We welcome restaurants, bars and social establishments to our retailer network as we adopt to this new play style,” said Noble.

Retailers earned over $64.2 million selling lottery in Connecticut last year and Keno is another exciting business opportunity for new and existing lottery retailers.

Keno is an important growth strategy for the lottery and means the Lottery can continue to fulfill its mission to return gaming revenue to the state in an efficient, responsible and entrepreneurial manner.

Keno is a lottery game that offers a chance to win every four minutes, 7 days a week, while the wagering system is operational.  The more numbers matched, the higher the potential prize value.

To play Keno, a playslip is completed by the customer who chooses 1 - 10 “spots” (numbers from 1 - 80), or selects a Quick Pick.  Customers choose how much to wager on each game, and the number of consecutive games to play.  A BONUS MULTIPLIER option can be added for a chance to win bigger prizes.

Of the 2,900 lottery retailers, approximately 300 presently have Keno monitors so that customers can view Keno drawing results.

Viewing the draw results on the monitor is a fun way for customers to play Keno, though players can also use the Lottery’s mobile app or ticket checkers to see if they won.

The CT Lottery’s Mobile App can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.  Ticket checkers are available at all CT Lottery retailers.

To learn about Keno and how to play, visit the Lottery official website (CTLOTTERY.ORG) or the CT Lottery’s YouTube channel (  Keno’s official game rules are posted to the Lottery’s website.

Lottery sales benefit Connecticut's residents in valuable ways.  In fiscal year 2015, players won more than $707.7 million in prize money.

At the same time, the CT Lottery provided a record $319.7 million to support the valuable services and programs funded by the state’s General Fund including public health, libraries, public safety, education and more.  Since the Lottery began in 1972, our contributions to the General Fund have exceeded $8.5 billion.

Hometown Favourite Hoosier Lotto Just Got Better

Hoosier Lotto with +PLUS offers better odds, more ways to win

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana  (April 24, 2016) - An automatic chance to multiply winnings with every play, larger jackpots, better odds and the potential to win up to an additional $1 million are all features of the new Hoosier Lotto with +PLUS, an enhancement of the Hoosier Lottery's original lotto game that launches today.

As of today, Hoosier Lotto is now Hoosier Lotto with +PLUS at a cost of $2 per play. Drawings will remain on Wedn esday and Saturday nights, with sales ending at 10:39 p.m. EDT.

"We are always thinking strategically about the long-term health of our games and identifying improvements that keep our games fresh and exciting for our players," said Sarah M. Taylor, executive director of the Hoosier Lottery.

"Hoosier Lotto has been a hometown favorite of our players for many years, and we hope they enjoy the improved Hoosier Lotto, which offers more excitement for our players with built-in multipliers and more ways to win."

Made in Indiana. Played in Indiana.

Indeed, since the Hoosier Lotto game launched in 1994, players have won prizes totaling more than $1.2 BILLION across all 92 counties, including 137 jackpot wins.

The game's prize payout, features and $1 price tag have remained largely static over the decades, without any significant enhancements until now.

No need to ask for a multiplier. It is automatic, not extra! The new built-in multiplier will allow  winners to automatically multiply ALL non-jackpot cash winnings up to 10 times.

A multiplier number of 1X, 2X, 3X, 5X or 10X will print with every play on a ticket. All non-jackpot cash prizes won on that play will be automatically multiplied by that number.

Better odds are here! The newer version offers better odds because of a reduction in the field of  numbers from which to choose.

Six numbers will be drawn from a field of 1 to 46, which is an improvement over the old field of 1 to 48. Jackpot odds will improve from 1 in 12.3 million to 1 in 9.4 million. Overall odds will improve from 1 in 6.4 to 1 in 6.

Look for larger payouts!   Thanks to the new built-in multiplier feature and +PLUS prize structure, players can expect to see both larger average jackpots and larger non-jackpot payouts.

Ask for the +PLUS feature for another chance to win! Adding the optional +PLUS feature for an extra dollar per play will improve the overall odds even further, nearly doubling them from 1 in 6 to 1 in 3.24.

Players who add the +PLUS option get a chance to match their Lotto numbers to a second set of six +PLUS numbers drawn with every Hoosier Lotto drawing.

ABOUT THE HOOSIER LOTTERY: Hoosier Lottery distributions benefit every county throughout Indiana.

The Hoosier Lottery contributes $30 million annually to local police and firefighters' pensions and $30 million annually to the Teachers' Retirement Fund. In fiscal year 2015, the Hoosier Lottery contributed $182.5 million to the Build Indiana Fund.

N.C. Education Lottery Makes Record Transfer for Education

RALEIGH, North Carolina (April 26, 2016) – A world-record Powerball jackpot and strong instant ticket sales led to a record transfer Tuesday of more than $200 million of earnings for education in North Carolina.

The transfer, totaling $200,796,933, resulted from lottery ticket sales in the third quarter of fiscal year 2016. The transfer brings total transfers for the fiscal year to $469.7 million.

Our 10th year is shaping up to be another record-breaking year,” said Alice Garland, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery.

We know we are going to surpass our goal for the year. The question now is how far beyond $529 million will our earnings go. Every one of those extra dollars will help make a difference for education in North Carolina.

Fastrak Lottery Services

Garland attributed the strong ticket sales to the popularity of instant games, including the $30 Ultimate Millions game launched in September, and the record-setting Powerball jackpot in January.

After the first three quarters of the year, lottery ticket sales are up 21 percent, compared to the same eight months last year. New sales records include:

  • $27.8 million in single day sales on Jan. 13
  • $83 million in weekly sales the week of Jan. 3-9
  • $275.8 million in monthly sales in January 2016
  • $682.8 million for the third quarter, Jan. 1 through March 31.

So far, the lottery has managed to increase sales and increase earnings in each of its nine years. It has now raised more than $4.4 billion for education programs that provide benefits to every county in North Carolina.

This year, the lottery expects to exceed $2 billion in lottery ticket sales for the first time ever. It will be the third year in a row that earnings for education have exceeded half a billion dollars.

AGA President to Discuss American Sports Betting with Top Global iGaming Executives

LONDON, U.K. (April 22, 2016) - American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO, Geoff Freeman, will present the AGA’s campaign that seeks a new approach to legalized and licensed sports betting across the United States at the iGaming Executive Conference in Amsterdam on 8th June.

In a major shift last November following months of study and deliberation by AGA and its members, the casino gaming industry announced its intent to study the implications of current law and to build a coalition to determine if rational, legal alternatives exist.

In the large and growing illegal sports betting market, consumer protections are non-existent and law enforcement lack tools to protect the integrity of games.

Freeman will present the problem with the current situation and the AGA’s campaign to find a solution to a select group of iGaming CEOs at the iGaming Executive Conference at the iGaming Super Show in Amsterdam (June 8th), where he will engage in dialogue with key executives from the global regulated iGaming community.

According to Freeman; “Sports betting has never been more popular in America than it is today. The illegal sports betting market is running rampant. AGA is leading the conversation around a new approach to sports betting that enhances consumer protections, strengthens the integrity of games and recognises fans’ desire for greater engagement with sports.”

Co-located at the world’s largest iGaming event, the iGaming Super Show, the iGaming Executive Conference is the premier gathering of leading global iGaming CEOs.

Gaming Development, Operation, Regulation Become More Streamlined as Gaming Standards Association (GSA) Release 11 New Matured Standards

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (April 26, 2016) – Since 1998, the Gaming Standards Association (GSA) has created standards proven to decrease costs, streamline development, and speed time to market. Now GSA is releasing 11 standards designed to further enhance the global gaming industry and unleash the creativity of its developers.

GSA’s members have collaborated intensely during the last couple of years and agreed to release the next set of standards which are vastly improved. GSA has been seeking ways to lower the barriers to implementation of our standards.”

This new set of standards have now reached a level of maturity in our industry to the benefit of suppliers, operators, and regulators,” said GSA President Peter DeRaedt.

The release of these 11 standards marks another landmark achievement following many years of behind the scene collaboration between our global members. We are excited to introduce them to the industry.

GSA is releasing the following standards:

  • G2S: Game to System (G2S) v3.0
  • EGM Media Display Interface (EMDI) v3.0

  • Game Authentication Transfer (GAT) v4.1
  • Gaming Device Standard v1.3 (GDS)

  • Network GAT Interface (NGI) v1.0
  • Simple System Interface (SSI) v1.0
  • Trusted GAT Results File Format (TGR) v1.0
  • Transport (XPT) v2.0

Of note among the standards are G2S: Game to System (G2S) v3.0, which is a simplified version of GSA’s award-winning and landmark G2S® standard. Next, the G2S/PUI Player User Interface v1.0 standard was created to answer operator demand for deeper player to system interactions and the development and implementation challenges surrounding the equipment. Last, regulators across the globe will welcome the Network GAT Interface (NGI) v1.0 and Trusted GAT Results File Format (TGR) v1.0.  While the fundamentals of GAT are unchanged, these two new companion specifications have been added to broaden its appeal and standardize its usage.

Lessons to be Learned from Failures at Gala Coral Group

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (April 27, 2016) -- The Commission is calling on gambling operators to learn lessons from its investigations into failings at the Gala Coral Group Ltd.

As part of a regulatory settlement, which has concluded the Commission’s investigations, Gala Coral Group Ltd has agreed to forfeit more than £846,000 and take steps to improve its anti-money laundering and social responsibility processes.

The investigation related to the way two of Gala Coral Group Ltd’s divisions (Coral Racing Limited and Gala Interactive) handled its relationship with a man who was jailed for three years after admitting to stealing £800,000 from a vulnerable adult.

The man had been a retail customer of Gala Coral Group since 2012 and was an online customer between January 2014 and January 2015.

As part of the settlement, Gala Coral has agreed to pay £846,600 to the man’s victim as this was the total amount he lost through gambling with the operator.

All operators are advised to read Gala Coral Group: Failures in anti-money laundering and social responsibility controls public statement for further details and lessons to be learned.

Richard Watson, Programme Director at the Commission, said: “We expect the industry will learn the lessons from this case, as it is their responsibility to keep crime out of gambling and protect vulnerable people from harm.”

He added: “We know that Gala Coral have reflected heavily on this case and have assured us of actions they have taken to address the failings. Operators must proactively monitor customers to keep gambling safe and free from crime”.

GiH Conference Program Update: Book Today and Take Part in the Conversation!

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands (April 22, 2014) --The next few months promise to be decisive in shaping the Netherlands' gaming regime for the foreseeable future. Ahead of the expected adoption of the Dutch remote gaming bill, secondary legislation is already being drawn up, while the Netherlands Gaming Authority continues to flesh out its licensing process.

Now that the plenary debate on the Dutch remote gaming bill has been rescheduled to May 17, 18, or 19, this year's edition of our annual Gaming in Holland Conference will take place in the immediate aftermath of the Lower House's vote: on June 7-8, 2016 at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Center in Amsterdam.

Register Here

Due to the support of both government coalition parties, the current bill is all but guaranteed to pass the Lower House. The Gaming in Holland Conference will thus be the first and foremost event to discuss the bill's contents and progress with national and international industry insiders, as well as regulators and legal experts. (It should be noted that the postponement of the debate has been caused by scheduling conflicts, rather than a lack of political support for the bill.)

Book your risk-free ticket now! In case the debate in the Lower House will end up being postponed beyond May 31, we will reschedule our conference to the fall. If it turns out you will be unable to attend at the new date, we will offer restitution of the amount paid.

Last year's edition of the Gaming in Holland Conference sold out, so book today! And don't forget: the Gaming in Holland Conference is co-hosted with the iGaming Super Show

Find Exhibitors at the Gaming Expo with the AGE 2016 App

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (April 26, 2016) -- Last year, AGE visitors were able to download an App for their mobile phone. This year at the AGE we have updated the App with new features which will help visitors to find exhibitors at the show and also keep the visitors abreast of news and activities while they are at the show.

As with last year, visitors who have installed the AGE App on any of their mobile devices will receive a welcome message as they pass through the entry gate.

Once they’re inside the exhibition and pass various points they will get updates to remind them about such things as the time of the Daily Vegas Draw, entertainment and other activities.

In addition to this, visitors can use the App to locate any exhibitor at the show. They can search the alphabetical exhibitor database that’s included in the App and then simply click on the stand number for an exhibitor’s location on the interactive show map.

In order to get these features, visitors must install the latest version of the AGE 2016 App.

Further details about the app are available at the AGE web site or it can be downloaded by simply visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Tuesday 9th to Thursday 11th August are the dates for the 2016 Australasian Gaming Expo Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island

AGE iphone app
Install the latest version of the AGE 2016 App.

Featuring more than 200 exhibitors across 17,000 square metres of exhibition space, the Australasian Gaming Expo is easily the biggest event of its type in Australia and one of the world's biggest. All indications are that the exhibition will again be full to capacity with a wide range of companies showcasing the world’s best gaming and related equipment and services

Last year’s Gaming Expo saw a number of changes resulting from the move to the temporary location at Glebe Island, all of which have been favourably received. Interstate visitors were particularly pleased with the free Ferry travel from Darling Harbour to Glebe Island, affording them a spectacular Sydney Harbour cruise.

Of course there’s more to the Expo than a cruise, with one visitor summing up their Gaming Expo experience in the following words: “Always interesting not just to see new products but totally new ideas and ways of doing business..... new areas of thought into how to trade.”

In fact, our post show research showed that 97% of the visitors saw the Expo as an opportunity to see new products and technology.

The Gaming Technology Association’s members whose exhibition stands would sit comfortably alongside the world’s best at any global event, will be in full force at the Australasian Gaming Expo. The Australasian Gaming Expo is the “must attend” event.

NOTE: The Australasian Gaming Expo is a trade exhibition, for management representatives of Gaming Industry Organisations only including government, regulatory, research and support bodies, clubs, hotels, casinos, resorts and similar Hospitality Industry venues.  Trade suppliers are not eligible to attend the event unless exhibiting.

The Gaming Technologies Association’s primary members are Ainsworth Game Technology, Aristocrat Technologies, Aruze Gaming Australia, eBet Limited, IGT (Australia), Konami Australia and Scientific Games.
