Pollard Banknote Receives One-Year Instant Ticket Contract Extension From The Vermont Lottery

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (May 17, 2016) – Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) (“Pollard Banknote”) is pleased to announce a one-year extension to its contract for instant ticket printing services with the Vermont Lottery Commission (“Vermont Lottery”). The initial three-year contract provided the opportunity for two one-year extensions, and the Lottery has awarded the first of the two possible one-year extensions. Under this agreement, Pollard Banknote will continue to provide the Lottery with instant ticket printing, marketing support, and related services until at least January 15, 2018.

Pollard Banknote was named primary instant ticket supplier to the Vermont Lottery in July 2014. This partnership has already proven successful, with FY 2015 sales up an impressive 12.4% over FY 2014. In addition, the Lottery has moved up five positions in U.S. per capita sales since the initial contract began, and is fast approaching the top ten with its current rank of number twelve in the U.S.

This success is due in part to Pollard Banknote assisting the Lottery with prize structure improvements and play enhancements, as well as the launch of a new second chance website and exciting licensed brands like the $5 Frogger ticket. A successful mix of game offerings has also contributed to the increase in overall instant ticket sales, including $3 Cashword!, $5 Big Bills, and $5 20x Lucky.

Over the course of the contract, Pollard Banknote will continue to offer the Lottery strategic product and marketing recommendations, including the introduction of new games and price points. For example, the Lottery will leverage the success of Frogger by launching another classic arcade game brand, Tetris®, in the fall of 2016.

Furthermore, to mark the introduction of Cashword at the $5 price point, the Lottery launched a WebPlay® Cashword app alongside the new ticket that was released in March 2016. The WebPlay® Cashword app extends the life of the instant ticket by allowing players to continue to play the Cashword game online for prizes or for fun. Pollard Banknote developed the play mechanics and layout of the app based on the expertise we have gained from our experience launching successful apps for several other lotteries throughout the U.S.

Greg Smith, Executive Director, Vermont Lottery, said, “Through our partnership with Pollard Banknote, the Lottery has successfully introduced many new games at various price points, as well as the exciting new second chance website that launched in October 2015, and has already enhanced player engagement. We are pleased that the extension to our existing contract will allow us to continue leveraging Pollard Banknote’s industry-leading product innovations and strategic recommendations.

Our newly established relationship with the Vermont Lottery has delivered immediate results due to a mutual focus on growing sales through innovation, research, analysis, and implementation of winning strategies,” said Byron Peterson, Director, Sales & Marketing, Pollard Banknote. “The Lottery is open to exploring new products and ideas in the industry, which allows them to introduce innovative offerings such as WebPlay® in order to maximize instant ticket revenue. We are excited to build on this partnership throughout the extended contract term, offering a full range of products and services that will ultimately provide proceeds for The Vermont Education Fund.

Since the sale of its first ticket in February of 1978, the Vermont Lottery has produced over $1.6 billion in overall sales. From those sales, over $1 billion has been returned to players in the form of prizes. Over $91 million has gone back into the local communities as payment to local agents in the form of commissions. Since 1999, over $430 million has gone to the State of Vermont Education Fund. For more information about the Lottery, please visit

South Africa: Minister on Third National Lottery Licence Court Judgment

Press statement by Minister Davies on the third National Lottery Licence

PRETORIA, South Africa (may 17, 2016) -- The Pretoria High Court today dismissed the application by Gidani (Pty) Ltd to review and set aside the decision of the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies to award the third National Lottery Licence to Ithuba Holdings (Pty) Ltd.

Negotiations between Minister Davies and Ithuba were successfully concluded on 7 August 2015, following which the Minister Davies issued the Licence to Ithuba.

Previous lottery operator Gidani, then sought to challenge Minister Davies' decision to award the Licence to Ithuba and launched an application in the Pretoria High Court to review and set aside the decision.

This was the second challenge brought by Gidani relating to the award of the Lottery Licence.

Gidani raised several grounds of review in its application, including: that the Minister failed to consider the maximisation of contributions to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, the process followed by Minister Davies was inadequate for the purpose of coming to a lawful decision, Minister Davies' decision was unlawful because he could not have been satisfied that Ithuba had the necessary financial resources to operate the Lottery, Minister Davies failed to take into account whether Ithuba was fit and proper to operate the Lottery and the Minister's failure to negotiate with Gidani renders the award of the Licence to Ithuba unlawful.

The Court dismissed each of the grounds of review raised by Gidani and held that it was unable to find that the Minister acted irrationally or unreasonably in coming to his decision or that he ignored matters that he should have taken into account.

The Court stated that Gidani's grounds of review did not make out a case of unlawful conduct on the part of Minister Davies and it had not been demonstrated that Minister Davies acted unlawfully or breached one or other legal provision in making the decision.

The Court held that it was unable to find any merit in Gidani's application and dismissed the application, with Gidani ordered to pay the costs of the application.

Minister Davies is confident that now that the process has been finalised, Ithuba will continue with its plans to operate and invigorate the National Lottery and ensure continued contributions to good causes.

Reardon said in addition to the legendary sports trip packages, the Lottery will also be giving away sports packages closer to home, like a package for St. Louis sports lovers and a fun-in-the-sun package at the Lake of the Ozarks.

And if sports and travel aren’t your thing, there are also $1,000 cash prizes so you can indulge your favorite sport or hobby,” Reardon said.

The promotion consists of three different drawings on three drawing dates: June 23, July 21 and Aug. 25. On each draw day, we will draw one “Legendary Sportscation” winner, two “Missouri Sportscation” winners, and 10 winners of $1,000 cash. All prizes are tax paid.

Players will receive one entry for each $10 worth of any eligible Scratchers tickets or Draw Games tickets entered into their My Lottery® Players Club account. They will get to choose which of the three drawings they would like to enter.

In addition to the three drawings dates, the Lottery will also hold weekly merchandise drawings on Tuesdays starting May 24, and running through Aug. 23.

Fifty winners will be drawn each Tuesday to win a sports-themed merchandise item of their choice, including bicycles, fishing and golf equipment, elliptical machines and more. A total of 700 weekly sports prizes will be awarded.

Lottery Launches New Game After 260 Years

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (April 4, 2016) -- For the first time since 1753, the Danish Class Lottery (Klasselotteriet) will launch a new lottery game. In 1753 Klasselotteriet was the first lottery ever in Denmark and now - 263 years later – Nabolotteriet is the first game in which social media plays an integrated and important role.

The name of the new game, Nabolotteriet, means The Neighbour Lottery and in the draws neighbours win together to create happy communities all over the country.

The game is an edition of the original Nabor™ concept, a patent pending lottery format created and developed by Swedish game provider Genera Networks.

“Nabolotteriet will be the third live version of Nabor in the Nordics and we have two more lotteries signed for this year,” says Maria Sandell, CEO of Genera Networks, “this makes Nabor the lottery format sold to the most countries ever.”

When Nabolotteriet is launched in Denmark later in 2016, it will stir up the already competitive Danish market.

“We are, without doubt, delighted to once again make history in the Danish market, and we are proud to announce this brand new game based on modern technology”, says Elisabeth Rask Jørgensen, CEO of the Danish Klasselotteriet.

The principle of the Nabor game is as simple as it is ingenious. Players participate with their home address. One ticket wins the main prize and secondary prizes are awarded based on the geographic proximity to the main winner. Players feel part of the community and many happy stories are spread over social media.

Vision for EquiLottery Introduced to Kentucky Horse Racing Commission

FRANKFORT, Kentucky (May 18, 2016) -- As part of the agenda for its first meeting since last month's reorganization of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, EquiLottery Founder and CEO Brad Cummings presented the backstory and game concept for EquiLottery, a lottery game based on the results of live horse racing, along with Kentucky research and new game elements. This innovative lottery and racing game would deliver instant exposure and new revenue to Kentucky horse racing on a daily basis.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky and its signature horse industry have given me much more than I can ever pay back,” said Cummings. “Having the opportunity to present to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission our vision for EquiLottery, which opens up millions of new people to a sport so important to my adopted home state, is a thrilling and humbling experience.

La Fleur's 2016 Lottery Almanac

During his presentation, Cummings discussed the evolution of EquiLottery. From its humble beginnings as an idea hatched in his home office in 2009 to the recent signing of an agreement with IGT Global Solutions, the unquestioned leader in lottery draw systems, he walked commission members through a narrative that he described as “a long and rewarding entrepreneurial endeavor.

We have seen Brad work tirelessly for his vision and clear some seemingly insurmountable hurdles. We are proud to stand with him in this effort,” said Kentucky HBPA Executive Director Marty Maline. “The Kentucky HBPA is excited about the opportunity for horse racing to be instantly distributed to the masses in Kentucky and across the country in a way it has never been before. We hope that our state will lead the way on this historic innovation.

Kentucky studies revealed in September of 2015 show the immense potential for EquiLottery as a vehicle for both horse racing and the lottery.

Conducted by global market research leader Ipsos Reid, these studies show that EquiLottery appeals to core and lapsed lottery players, brings new players to the lottery and attracts millennials with appeal and spend scores matching the rest of the population.

Underlying numbers suggest that this generation, which has not previously shown interest in either lottery or horse racing, was chiefly drawn to the mobile integration of EquiLottery.

For the first time, the public was also introduced to a new flow of funds established over the course of multiple development meetings earlier this year.

The principle change involves the top tier prize pool which will be a separate pool maintained by the lottery containing only lottery money. Racetracks will be paid a licensing fee for the use of their product from the proceeds of each ticket.

As we continued to find a workable version of our game that took into account the needs of state lotteries as they currently operate, it became evident a tweak to our original model was necessary to make EquiLottery a reality now,” said Cummings.

Our primary goals have been and will always be to introduce millions of new people to the excitement of live horse racing while creating an expansion of the lottery player base and returning new profits to the good causes state lotteries exist to support. After 6 ½ years and millions of dollars in investment, we are on the brink of accomplishing these goals.

The pursuit of EquiLottery, heralded as The Next Generation of Lottery Draw Games, has been conducted publicly since the summer of 2014. Upon agreement to implement EquiLottery, the Kentucky-based company will allow participating lotteries and racetracks to leverage the EquiLottery race-watching mobile app and website, integrate software with no out-of-pocket expenses and secure all necessary game licensing and race data.

Additionally, EquiLottery will supply consulting services including setting year round calendars of pre-qualified races, negotiating rates with racetracks and horsemen for licensing the racing product that is the basis for this game and providing best practices for game implementation.

Find Exhibitors at the Gaming Expo with the AGE 2016 App

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (April 26, 2016) -- Last year, AGE visitors were able to download an App for their mobile phone. This year at the AGE we have updated the App with new features which will help visitors to find exhibitors at the show and also keep the visitors abreast of news and activities while they are at the show.

As with last year, visitors who have installed the AGE App on any of their mobile devices will receive a welcome message as they pass through the entry gate.

Once they’re inside the exhibition and pass various points they will get updates to remind them about such things as the time of the Daily Vegas Draw, entertainment and other activities.

In addition to this, visitors can use the App to locate any exhibitor at the show. They can search the alphabetical exhibitor database that’s included in the App and then simply click on the stand number for an exhibitor’s location on the interactive show map.

In order to get these features, visitors must install the latest version of the AGE 2016 App.

Further details about the app are available at the AGE web site or it can be downloaded by simply visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Tuesday 9th to Thursday 11th August are the dates for the 2016 Australasian Gaming Expo Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island

AGE iphone app
Install the latest version of the AGE 2016 App.

Featuring more than 200 exhibitors across 17,000 square metres of exhibition space, the Australasian Gaming Expo is easily the biggest event of its type in Australia and one of the world's biggest. All indications are that the exhibition will again be full to capacity with a wide range of companies showcasing the world’s best gaming and related equipment and services

Last year’s Gaming Expo saw a number of changes resulting from the move to the temporary location at Glebe Island, all of which have been favourably received. Interstate visitors were particularly pleased with the free Ferry travel from Darling Harbour to Glebe Island, affording them a spectacular Sydney Harbour cruise.

Of course there’s more to the Expo than a cruise, with one visitor summing up their Gaming Expo experience in the following words: “Always interesting not just to see new products but totally new ideas and ways of doing business..... new areas of thought into how to trade.”

In fact, our post show research showed that 97% of the visitors saw the Expo as an opportunity to see new products and technology.

The Gaming Technology Association’s members whose exhibition stands would sit comfortably alongside the world’s best at any global event, will be in full force at the Australasian Gaming Expo. The Australasian Gaming Expo is the “must attend” event.

NOTE: The Australasian Gaming Expo is a trade exhibition, for management representatives of Gaming Industry Organisations only including government, regulatory, research and support bodies, clubs, hotels, casinos, resorts and similar Hospitality Industry venues.  Trade suppliers are not eligible to attend the event unless exhibiting.

The Gaming Technologies Association’s primary members are Ainsworth Game Technology, Aristocrat Technologies, Aruze Gaming Australia, eBet Limited, IGT (Australia), Konami Australia and Scientific Games.
