IGT to Provide 1,500 New Video Lottery Terminals to Oregon Lottery

LONDON, U.K. (June 27, 2016) -- International Game Technology PLC ("IGT") (NYSE: IGT) today announced its agreement to provide 1,500 new video lottery terminals (VLTs) to the Oregon Lottery.

This extension of the existing contract between IGT and the Oregon Lottery serves to move the Lottery closer to an all Game to System (G2S)-ready network, and further solidifies IGT's leadership in the Oregon VLT market.

The agreement includes a selection of popular content on two IGT cabinets. The E20 Upright cabinet will provide the Oregon Lottery with player-proven titles such as Prince of Thieves™, Pharaoh's Fortune®, White Nights™ Money Bags® and Lucky Larry Lobstermania™.  The Oxygen™ cabinet will feature industry-leading benchmark themes Big City 5s™, Sphinx Wild™, Wild Witch™ and Dragon's Temple™.

Christos Dimitriadis of INTRALOT Re-Elected ISACA Board Chair

Additionally, he was a member of the Permanent Stakeholders Group (PSG) of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) from 2012 to 2015.

Grassroots Sport – Shaping Europe

High Level Group Presents its Recommendations for the Promotion of Grassroots Sport in Europe, Highlighting the Significant Role of Lotteries

BRUSSELS, Belgium (June 29, 2016) -- The High Level Group (HLG) on Grassroots Sport, composed by 15 high level independent experts in relevant matters, set up under the political leadership of Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, after 9 months of intensive work, presented today its recommendations to Commissioner Navracsics.

The High Level Group’s report contains general recommendations as well as specific ones, within the areas of health, social inclusion, informal learning and skills development, volunteering, economic dimension, sustainable financing and urban planning and infrastructure.

EL welcomes the fact that the report makes a special reference to the role of Lotteries, recommending to the Commission to recognise the role of Lotteries in the sustainable financing of grassroots sport and urging Member-States to promote and safeguard the role of Lotteries in terms of their financing of grassroots sports and take measures to prevent and/or combat illegal betting.

EL President, Hansjörg Höltkemeier notes: “EL Members belong to a sustainable model which is based on principles, like solidarity, precaution and integrity. Driven by these principles, Lotteries have been a sustainable pillar of funding of grassroots sport in Europe.

In fact, our core principles enable Lotteries to go even further and consider sport as a tool for social inclusion and non-formal education and we are delighted that these dimensions are clearly reflected in the High Level Group’s Report. We now have to work hard towards the implementation of these significant recommendations”.

Indeed, Lotteries have been for decades the primary partners of European sport, providing a sustainable financing of more than 2bn EUR per year to sport and in fact this contribution according to a recent study (SportEconAustina, 2015) has a further impact on economy and employment, with around 40,000 direct and indirect jobs secured each year thanks to this contribution.

The safeguarding of this funding is indeed vital and, as illegal betting might jeopardise this sustainable funding of grassroots sport, concrete measures against illegal operators (as also required by the EPAS Convention against the manipulation of sport competitions) need to be taken by Member-States.

Camelot Global Enhances the UK National Lottery App with Ticket Scanning

LONDON, U.K. (June 28, 2016) -- Camelot Global has today announced that it has successfully enhanced the UK National Lottery mobile App with ticket scanning. The updated App allows retail players in the UK to use their smartphones to check draw results to find out if they’re a lucky winner - using the National Lottery App. All a player has to do is tap on the ‘Scan Ticket’ button and scan the QR code on the National Lottery ticket.

The latest version of the App, extends Camelot Global relationship with Scandit, who they first partnered with to deliver ticket scanning to the Irish National Lottery, and delivers a rich player experience with varying content displayed to the user depending on a number of variables including game type, time of day, win or lose.

Alongside the Ticket Scanning feature, and to complement the retail customer focus of the feature, this release also includes the rollout of a 'Lite' version of the Android application - this meets the restrictions in place in the Google Play Store so that the app can be added there for the first time.

The Results Checking App, or 'Android Lite' allows the UK National Lottery to reach the majority of the UK Android user base from the ease of the Play Store for the first time, which is anticipated to result in a substantial increase in installed user base. With the existing Android application, the Google restrictions on Gambling applications have prevented placement in the Play Store, which is the default method of application install for Android users. Due to this restriction, Camelot Global have delivered an alternative - ‘Android Lite’, for the National Lottery, to reach Android users who previously would not have been able to access the app.

The latest release of the UK National Lottery App builds on the features that were already available to players and follows on from extensive usability studies to refine the user journies following customer feedback.

MECN Publishes New Edition of Data-Driven Report Analysing the Online Gambling Industry

LONDON / MUNICH (June 28, 2016) – The market researchers at MECN have just published their most recent edition of the Online Gambling Quarterly. As before, this edition includes analyses of the most relevant financial KPIs, the companies likely to be winning in the future, trends, in-depth SEO and affiliate analyses, and much more.

The Online Gambling Quarterly features a wealth of in-depth analyses, but two key elements are the quarterly assessment of the business climate in the online gambling industry and the benchmark of the most recent quarterly revenue figures.

Business climate likely to improve within the next 12 months

A key part of MECN's quarterly studies is a survey of industry participants regarding the current and future business climate of the online gambling industry. Here are the key results of the survey conducted in June 2016:

• Current business climate – The majority (58%) of the experts and market insiders surveyed assess the current business climate of the online gambling industry as “satisfactory” or even "poor". But 42% of the experts consider the current climate “good”.

• Future outlook – Regarding the future (in the next 12 months), 46% of the experts surveyed believe that the industry climate will be “good”, an increase compared to the current figure of 42% - see exhibit.

Analyses of quarterly revenue development - on average, revenues increased by 45% in Q1/2016 (YoY)

In the exhibit below the report benchmarks the latest growth rates of quarterly revenue (total across all segments/verticals). In most cases the figures used are net revenues (after bonuses, …); however, in a few cases net revenues were not reported, and therefore MECN took gross revenues (gross win/yield = stakes less prizes paid out) or turnover instead. Here the key results:

  • A Average growth – On average, revenues grew in Q1/2016 (compared to the previous year) by 45%.
  • Top growth rate – Best practice growth was achieved by Gaming Innovation with 170%.
  • Lowest/negative growth – At the bottom of the ranking we find Mybet and Lottomatica.
  • Best practice analyses – Gaming Innovation Group (Guts.com, ...) also was on top in Q4/2015; just a short time ago the company changed its focus to online gambling. According to the company, the growth was driven by various factors, incl. a continued relevant TV advertising campaign, strong growth of active players of the company brands Guts and Betspin, the launch of rizk.com, and the acquisition of two additional affiliate networks.

Olli Sarekoski Appointed CEO of the New Finnish Gaming Company

VANTAA, Finland (June 28, 2016) -- The Board of FRV Evo Oy has appointed Mr Olli Sarekoski, M.Sc.(Econ.), CEO of the new gaming company as of 1 January 2017. Mr Sarekoski (51) has been working as Executive Vice President of Veikkaus, responsible for the company’s Business Operations, for the past eight years. 

The appointment of the CEO of the new gaming company was prepared for several months. The Board had thorough discussions with many good candidates from outside of the present gaming companies and many good candidates from the inside.

Following the process, the Board decided to appoint Mr Sarekoski, says Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Chairman of the Board of FRV Evo Oy.

Mr Sarekoski has been working for Veikkaus in several different positions, so he is thoroughly familiar with the changes in the gaming industry, together with the needs for development in the Finnish gaming system.

The gaming company to be launched at the beginning of next year will need to earn its position among Finns from the very beginning. The company will be operating on a market that is subject to digital competition. We will need to be able to respond to that competition in a responsible manner in all respects. The new Veikkaus will be supporting the wellbeing of all Finns, including equine industry, in a broad-ranging sense. This means that the proceeds of the new company will affect the lives of almost everyone, says Sarekoski. 

It was reported previously in June that the name of the new gaming company will be Veikkaus. The new company will strengthen the responsible domestic gaming system.

Invitation to Comment on the Public Lotteries Regulation

SYDNEY, Australia (June 27, 2016) -- The Public Lotteries Regulation 2007 is due for staged repeal on September 1, 2016. It is proposed to replace this regulation with the Public Lotteries Regulation 2016.

A formal review process is underway and comment is sought from members of the public and stakeholders on the Public Lotteries Regulation 2016.

The primary objective of the draft Regulation is to effectively support the operation of the Public Lotteries Act 1996 in providing for the proper conduct of public lotteries in the public interest and minimising any harm associated with public lotteries.

A Regulatory Impact Statement is available to explain the clauses of the draft Regulation along with costs and benefits.

NEW ZEALAND (June 27, 2016) -- A public discussion document about the sustainability of community funding from pub and club gaming machines is now available, Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne said today.

Earlier this year I announced a review of class 4 gambling and the release of a public discussion document gives the public a chance to have their say.

The release of the discussion document is the next step in the Government’s review of the class 4 gambling sector, which operates “pokie” machines in non-casino venues”, says Mr Dunne.

The discussion document sets out the key characteristics of the sector, and explores some of the challenges faced by those involved in class 4 gambling. It includes specific questions for the public about the challenges faced by the sector, and how to address those challenges.

The public consultation period will run for seven weeks.

The aim of the review is to ensure funding to communities from the class 4 sector remains sustainable, without any growth in gambling, and minimising harm from gambling.

The class 4 sector is a valuable source of community funding, and we will be looking at proposals to future-proof that funding. This discussion document is an opportunity for the community to let the Government know what they think are the challenges faced by the sector, and how to ensure that we get the maximum benefit from class 4 gambling, without growing gambling and minimising harm”, said Mr Dunne.

Dutch Lottery De Lotto Adds Jumbo to in Lane Sales Network

LONDON, U.K. (June 24,2016) - Abacus are pleased to report that through use of the Abacus Fusion Platform® their client, the newly merged organisation Nederlandse Staatsloterij/De Lotto, have further expanded their in-lane sales network in The Netherlands, with the addition of the major Dutch supermarket retailer Jumbo.

The project was completed on time within a very tight timescale, 6 weeks from agreement to go-live. The final Jumbo stores went live on the Abacus system on 23rd June following a carefully planned phased rollout lasting 1 week. In total 574 Jumbo stores were enabled, allowing tickets to be sold in-lane from 5,451 EPoS tills

DGE Announces May 2016 Atlantic City Gaming Revenue Results

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey (June 14, 2016) -- Based upon filings with the Division of Gaming Enforcement, Casino Win for the month of May was $203.3 million compared to $208.6 million in May 2015, a 2.5% decrease.

Internet Gaming Win was $16.5 million in May compared to $12.5 million in the prior period, reflecting an increase of 32.6%.

Total Gaming Win for the month was $219.8 million compared to $221.1 million in Total Gaming Win for May 2015, reflecting a 0.6% decrease. Note that the weekend calendar for May 2016 compares unfavourably to May 2015.

For the year-to-date, Casino Win totalled $954.3 million through May 2016 compared to $939.6 million in the prior period, reflecting an increase of 1.6%.

Internet Gaming Win was up 30.0% to $78.4 million.

Total Gaming Win was $1.0 billion, up 3.3% for the first five months of 2016.

For the month of May 2016, total gaming taxes were $17.3 million. Total gaming taxes reflect 8% of taxable casino gross revenue and 15% of Internet gaming gross revenue.

In addition, the casino industry incurred $3.0 million in reinvestment obligations with the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, which reflects 1.25% of casino gross revenue and 2.5% of Internet gaming gross revenue.

The Malta Gaming Authority Joins Forces with the iGaming Academy in Delivering the First iGaming Education Forum, as part of SiGMA 2016

Beware the Latest Scam: Text Messages That Suggest You Have Won a Big Cash Prize

MONCTON, N.B. (June 24, 2016) – Atlantic Lottery is warning Atlantic Canadians of the latest lottery scam: a text message that says you’ve won a large prize in a “2016 PROMOTION”. The message asks you to send your details to an email address that contains the words “lotto” and “649”. 

We’ve recently become aware of these text messages,” says Jay Merritt, Manager of Risk Management and Investigations for Atlantic Lottery. “A legitimate lottery would never ask a winner to provide banking details through email or a text message.” 

Scams like these are becoming more common. They may originate as a letter, phone call, email or text message. If you get a notification of any kind that says you’re a winner, here are some points to consider:

  • To be eligible for a lottery prize from Atlantic Lottery, you must be 19+ and have purchased a ticket from an authorized retailer in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland & Labrador, or on the alc.ca website.
  • Canadian lotteries only operate lotteries, games of chance or contests in their own jurisdiction. Atlantic Lottery only operates in Atlantic Canada.
  • Canadian lotteries don’t send out unsolicited cheques and do not require tax payments, administration fees or other monies in advance of releasing cash prizes.

 

If you buy tickets at retail, the best way to know if you’re a winner is to validate it at your local retailer or call Atlantic Lottery,” says Merritt. “If you purchase tickets on alc.ca, we will send an email if you win; it’s part of our secure and convenient system.”

If you think you’ve received a fraudulent notice from someone claiming you have won a lottery prize, your best plan of action is to contact either your local police agency or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s PhoneBusters line at: 1-888-495-8501.

MGS Launch Macau Government Incentive Scheme for Visitors to 2016 Show

MACAU, SAR (June 22, 2016) -- The MGS Entertainment Show, the Asian gaming industry’s premier trade exhibition, has partnered with the Macau SAR Government to help drive more international buyers and business partners into the region. As part of its expanded project activity with the Macau SAR, MGS will be launching the Government’s targeted ‘Qualified Buyers’ program to the global market for its 2016 expo. The agreement will enable MGS, currently the industry’s fastest growing trade show, to provide extensive travel and accommodation sponsorship for visitors to the Government-supported exhibition which is being held at the Venetian Macao, 15-17 November 2016.

The Macau Government’s Buyer Sponsorship program is one of a number of key joint initiatives scheduled for launch at the MGS Entertainment Show over the next three years, as the exhibition rolls out its business programme in support of the SAR’s drive for greater diversity in the domestic and regional economy.

Designed to draw in new visitors from the expanding zones of the MGS show, the QB scheme will be open to registered visitors from all companies exhibiting at the MGS expo, including grant support of up to MOP 7,000 (US$875) to international visitors at this year’s show. The grants will be used to subsidise travel, transport and accommodation costs for visitors from anywhere in the world to the MGS Entertainment Show.

MGS Chairman Jay Chun stated: “The Qualified Buyer incentives are a pioneering initiative by the Government aimed at building trading links from Macau across the globe. MGS is excited to join the program and bring these significant benefits of financial support to our own global business community. The Qualified Buyers scheme will be operated through a designated team at the MGS offices in Macau and is open to official buyers of any exhibitor at the 2016 show. Visitor subsidies will be aligned to exhibitor stand size - the larger the stand, the more visitors eligible for the subsidy. Contributions will be  available towards the costs of round trip flights, transportation services to Macau and hotel accommodation in Macau or Taipa. The maximum grants at this year’s exhibition range from: MOP 1,200 (US$150) for visitors from Hong Kong SAR & Guangdong Province; MOP 4,000 (US$500) for buyers from China (outside Guandong Province) and Asia; MOP 7,000 (US$875) for all visitors from regions outside Asia.
