Georgia Lottery and Atlanta Falcons Announce New Scratch-Off Game

ATLANTA, Georgia (August 24, 2016) -- For the eighth consecutive year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. and the Atlanta Falcons have teamed up to kick off another new and exciting instant game.

Atlanta Falcons is a $5 instant game with top prizes of $350,000 and many other great prizes. Tickets went on sale at Georgia Lottery retailers state-wide Tuesday.

We are excited to continue our very successful partnership with the Atlanta Falcons,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Debbie D. Alford.

WyoLotto Celebrates Second Anniversary August 24

CHEYENNE, Wyoming (August 24, 2016) – Exactly two years ago on Aug. 24, 2014, Wyoming celebrated the sale of the first lottery ticket in the Cowboy State. Today, WyoLottoTM celebrates this landmark along with other milestones since the introduction of the first in-state lottery.

After two years of success, CEO Jon Clontz said, “We are proud to have accomplished so much in such a short time, beginning with the addition of two draw games and continuing with the launch of Cowboy Draw™. And now, we’re preparing to offer another brand-new game for our players.”

Lottery ticket sales became legal when the Wyoming State Legislature passed a bill in 2013, but the Wyoming Lottery Corporation would first need to secure a start-up loan, hire staff, and create infrastructure to establish the corporation and begin to sell tickets.

Our $2.6 million loan allowed the lottery to start up the corporation. We began with Powerball and Mega Millions, then we added Wyoming’s own game, Cowboy Draw, in 2015,” Clontz added.

Through the success and support of Wyoming players and retailers, WyoLotto paid off its start up loan early, and in 2016 began making revenue transfers to the Wyoming State Treasurer.

In addition to recent achievements, Clontz emphasized what has been a key piece to success. “Beyond the sales and milestones, and after two years of ticket sales, we have been able to keep Wyoming players’ dollars in Wyoming, spent at Wyoming retailers.”

Clontz explained that the loan payoff and the two revenue transfers already made to the state happened faster than originally expected, largely due to increased ticket sales from the $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot and last year’s launch of the popular Cowboy Draw™ game, which offers better odds and more winners.

Proudly, we are now another revenue stream for cities, towns, counties, and education,” said Mark Macy, WyoLotto Board Chairman.

Because of these increased ticket sales, the lottery has transferred more than $2 million so far to the state, which the Wyoming Treasurer’s Office distributes to the 99 cities and towns and 23 counties, according to a formula in the state statute. The first transfer in April was $1.12 million and the second in July was $915,000. Revenue transfers are made each quarter, up to a maximum of $6 million per year. Any revenues exceeding that will then go to the Wyoming Permanent Land Fund’s Common School Account.

To continue to grow, we must expand the lottery’s player base and add new games, something we are preparing to do later this year with the addition of Lucky for Life,” Clontz said.

To date, more than 1.5 million WyoLotto players have won $23.6 million. The first WyoLotto-only game, Cowboy Draw, increased player excitement and has already presented jackpots to nine players since its launch in March 2015.

Macy emphasized that keeping lottery players in Wyoming keeps revenue here. “Research shows that players usually purchase other products when they go in to buy lottery tickets in store.

Clontz added, “WyoLotto is a Wyoming brand and is very proud to be a part of Wyoming’s unique culture. We are working hard to continue to contribute to the state’s economy.

Lottery Records Best Sales Year in History with Revenue Up for 6th Consecutive Fiscal Year

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (August 22, 2016) -- Celebrating its 25th year of operations, the Louisiana Lottery toppled its record first full fiscal year of sales, ending 2016 with $508.3 million in revenue, $13.6 million more than in 1993 when the Lottery was the only legalized form of gaming in Louisiana.

"What a platinum anniversary present!" noted Lottery President Rose Hudson. "After six consecutive years of growth, the Lottery achieved a new all-time high. Although this is certainly an impressive feat in today's saturated gaming marketplace, our true satisfaction comes in knowing we're accomplishing our mission to raise funds for Louisiana K-12 public education."

The Lottery's focus on this mission to generate state revenue was recently recognized by Public Gaming Research Institute, which honoured the Lottery with its Sharon Sharp Good Causes Award for having the highest percentage increase in funds transferred to its beneficiary.

Per statute, at least 35 percent of all Lottery sales are transferred to the state treasury, the highest mandated transfer percentage in the nation. Fourth quarter figures for fiscal year 2016 show Lottery revenue totalled $116,036,106 resulting in a state transfer of $40,612,630, which brought total transfers to $177.9 million for 2016 – $27 million more than was budgeted.

Fiscal year 2016 was a banner year across all Lottery product lines with scratch-offs sales up 4.9 percent over last year and a world-record $1.58 billion jackpot launching Powerball game sales up an astounding 45.5 percent. Overall, Lottery revenue was up more than $54.5 million from 2015.

Local businesses that sell Lottery products also earn about 5.5 percent of sales, which includes commission, incentives for cashing winning tickets and bonuses for selling winning tickets. In fiscal year 2016, retailer compensation totalled $28.2 million.

Nearly 53 percent of revenue is allocated to prizes for players, and about 5 percent is retained by the Lottery to operate.

Since the Lottery began operations in 1991, more than $9 billion in revenue has been generated, primarily from ticket sales. More than $3.2 billion has been transferred to the state treasury.

"Twenty-five years of raising recurring revenue for the state while promoting a responsible approach to recreational gaming is something to celebrate," said Hudson. "That's why on Sept. 6 – 25 years to the day of our first day of sales – we will launch a unique anniversary edition of our popular multiplier family of scratch-offs giving our players more fun and more ways to win." The $5 game in the scratch-off game series, 25X, will feature the Lottery's anniversary logo, top prizes of $100,000, plus an additional bonus play area on the back of the ticket.

Loto-Québec Begins the Year with Higher Revenues First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2016-2017

MONTRÉAL, Quebec, Canada (August 19, 2016) – Loto-Québec performed well at the start of the 2016-2017 financial year. Revenues increased slightly to $863.9 million (+$3.5 M or 0.4%), and net earnings reached $308.0 million (+$9.3 M or 3.1%) compared to the same period the previous year, which was two days longer.

Rigorous management helped reduce expenses by $6.6 M (-2.8%) during the quarter compared to the same period last year. With a fifth consecutive quarter of improved performance, Loto-Québec’s renewal strategy is continuing to produce good results.

Casinos maintain their progress

  • At the end of the first quarter, casinos reported revenues of $200.9 M and net earnings of $51.2 M, i.e. respective increases of $10.3 M (+5.4%) and $7.6 M (+17.3%).
  • Efforts to enhance our entertainment offerings continue to feed the dynamic nature of our casinos.

Return to normal for lotteries

  • The lotteries sector generated revenues of $428.8 M and net earnings of $112.7 M, slight declines of $4.6 M (-1.1%) and $0.2 M (-0.2%), respectively.
  • The sector has returned to normal trends following the exceptional number of large jackpots offered last year. Lottery ticket sales usually increase significantly when jackpots are very large.
  • Loto-Québec paid out $231.4 M in prizes to lottery winners, including 19 prizes worth $1 M or more.

 

Stable performance by gaming establishments

  • The gaming establishment sector reported revenues of $240.0 M, which is a slight decline of $1.7 M (-0.7%).
  • Net earnings reached $144.2 M, an increase of $2.0 M (+1.4%).
  • Gaming halls continue to perform well (+8.7%), while revenues from video lottery terminals in bars and brasseries decreased slightly (-0.7%).

 

Online gaming continues to grow

  • Espacejeux.com revenues total $17.2 million, an increase of $3.1 M (+21.6%).
  • The increase was noted for both lottery games (+24.7%) and casino games (+19.3%).

Gaming Authority Publishes Feedback in Relation to the Consultation on the Draft Code of Commercial Communications

MALTA (August 23, 2016) -- Following a public consultation process, titled ‘Code of Commercial Communications’, on the need for the current rules on the advertising of gaming services to be updated to better reflect the sector’s development, in terms of player behaviour, marketing techniques, new technologies, regulatory practice, and the needs of society in general, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is publishing a feedback document highlighting key points raised through the consultation process.

The general aim of the proposed Code is the protection of minors and other individuals who are, or may be more susceptible to problem gambling, the promotion and safeguarding of players’ rights and responsible gaming, the elimination of misleading terms, and in general the fair and non-predatory treatment of consumers by gaming operators.

The consultation on the draft Code of Commercial Communications is part of a series of consultations which the MGA is currently conducting with a view to advising it on the best approaches to be adopted in the regulatory overhaul which it is currently working on.

The feedback provided on this consultation will now be considered in the finalisation of the text of the Code as well as, where relevant, in the drafting of the rest of the legislative initiatives required to complete the new gaming framework.

NHL Adds Integrity Component to its Partnership with Sportradar

NEW YORK and MINNEAPOLIS (August 23, 2016) -- The National Hockey League today announced it will incorporate Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System (FDS) into its game-integrity protection systems.

The NHL, which for years has used a variety of security agencies to proactively safeguard and ensure the integrity of its competition, now also will use Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System to monitor global gaming activity and trends across more than 550 operators worldwide in order to pinpoint unusual patterns that could be cause for concern.

Sportradar, a world leader in the detection and prevention of game manipulation and partner to federations, leagues and law enforcement agencies across the globe, will use its Fraud Detection System to monitor all regular-season and postseason NHL games for any potential manipulation.

While we have the utmost confidence in the integrity of our sports and our games, Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System provides an additional layer of security and protection,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said.

He is a 34-year veteran of the advertising and broadcasting business.  In addition to his time at KTRV, his career includes experience as a partner and owner of advertising agencies Canyon Diversified Advertising and The Robert James Agency.

Mr. Polowski is an avid sports fan and has provided color commentary on numerous live television and radio sports broadcasts over the years including Boise State University and the University of Idaho.
