Mass. Lottery Hosting Holiday Toy Drive at Regional Offices across State

Drive is supporting local “Toys for Tots” programs, while raising awareness that lottery tickets are not suitable gifts for children

BOSTON, Massachusetts (December 1, 2016) -- The Massachusetts State Lottery is encouraging customers to participate in its Holiday Toy Drive to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program, while raising awareness that lottery tickets are not suitable gifts for children.

From now through Friday, December 16, new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Lottery’s Braintree headquarters and at its New Bedford, Springfield, Woburn and Worcester regional offices. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Toys will be donated to Toys for Tots campaigns in the respective regions.

Lottery employees have been loyal contributors to Toys for Tots for many years through our internal program and this year we are pleased to extend this effort to include our customers,” said Michael Sweeney, Executive Director of the Mass. Lottery. “By putting the focus on giving toys to children, this is also a great opportunity to remind the public that while lottery tickets may be great gifts for adults, they are not appropriate gifts for anyone under the age of 18.”

The Mass. Lottery joins lotteries across North America on an annual basis in participating in a Lottery Holiday Campaign conducted by the National Council on Problem Gambling and the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University. The mission of the campaign is to promote responsible lottery play by discouraging the giving of lottery tickets as gifts to children.

INTRALOT announce aggressive revenue growth 7% and resilient EBITDA growth 2.4% in 9M16

INTRALOT SA (RIC: INLr.AT, Bloomberg: INLOT GA), an international gaming solutions and operations leader, announces its financial results for the nine-month period ending September 30th, 2016, prepared in accordance with IFRS

ATHENS, Greece (December 1, 2016) --

OVERVIEW

  • Group Revenues increased by 7.0% in 9M16 (+19.5% in constant currency) attributed to the combined outcome of increased competition in the sports betting market in Bulgaria and Eurobet's first time consolidation, which resulted in boosting revenue growth by 16.2% in 3Q16 (+28.9% in constant currency). On a LTM basis revenue grew by 3.6%.
  • EBITDA in the 9M16 period grew moderately by 2.4% (+16.6% in constant currency), with a margin contraction of just 58bps, absorbing a 374bps increase in the payout ratio. In 3Q16 EBITDA decreased by 14.3% (-1.8% in constant currency), as a result of approx. €7m shortfall in the Parent company, driven by increased efforts related to new projects and product development, M&A transaction costs and timing effects of 3Q15 compared to 3Q16.
  • INTRALOT issued in September a 5-year, €250m, 6.75% coupon bond to refinance its 2018, 325m, 9.750% coupon bond, reducing significantly debt servicing costs.
  • In November, 80% of our operations in Peru were transferred to NG Entertainment Peru S.A.C. and the Group received a cash consideration of 68.7m USD.
  • Net debt in the 3rd quarter increased by €23.0m to €533.8m, due to third party dividends distribution of €9.5m to joint venture partners, M&A activities of €10.0m and negative FX of €1.8m.

 

New products and services that have been recently developed and installed to various clients include:

  • Self Service Terminals (SST) for autonomous play with advanced payments methods.
  • Canvas CMS solution with additional verticals (Casino and e-Instants) supporting social marketing integration.
  • Native Mobile Betting applications (iOS, Android) with real money gaming.
  • Remote Gaming Server new release with significant architectural enhancements for better performance and support of Slot Games.

 

 

Commenting on the 3Q 2016 Results INTRALOT Group CEO Antonios Kerastaris noted:

"INTRALOT Q3 was marked by aggressive organic revenue growth, as a result of the company strategy for launching new products and services and reaping fruits of new projects. Recent milestone developments of a successful early refinancing of a €250m bond in September with significantly better terms that lead to cumulative savings of up to €65m savings in debt-servicing costs and extension of maturities to 2021 combined with the collection of USD 68.7m in cash from the disposal of 80% of our operation in Peru have drastically improved our financial position and capacity to meet our targets of significantly reduced net debt and improved cash position by the end of 2016."

REVENUES

  • Reported consolidated revenues increased by 16.2% to €320.6m in 3Q16 compared to the same period a year ago, shaping revenues in 9M16 to 957.5m or 7.0% higher y-o-y. Revenues in 3Q16 were boosted from increased sports betting revenues in Bulgaria and the consolidation of the recently acquired Bulgarian lottery company Eurobet in 3Q16.
  • The increase in 9M16 derives from: +115.1m in East Europe due to increased sales in Bulgaria and Turkey, +20.9m in North America, +3.2m in West Europe due to higher revenues in Malta and Cyprus and +1.9m in Africa due to increased sales in Morocco, partially counterbalanced by decreased sales of 47.8m in Australasia due to lower sales in Azerbaijan where the local currency suffered severe devaluations and -30.8m in South America due to softer sales in Argentina, Jamaica and Brazil.
  • Constant currency basis: In 3Q16 revenues net of a negative FX impact of €35.1m reached €355.7m (+28.9% y-o-y), while in 9M16 revenues net of a negative FX impact of €112.1m shaped at €1,069.6m (+19.5% y-o-y).
  • Numerical Games are the largest contributors to our top line, comprising 48.8% of our revenues (+11.1% vs. 9M15), followed by Sports Betting contributing 34.3% to Group turnover (+2.4% vs. 9M15). VLTs/AWPs represented 3.0% of Group turnover (+70.0% vs. 9M15), followed by Technology contracts with 11.4% (+5.8% vs. 9M15) and Racing with 2.6% (-27.7% vs. 9M15).
  • Wagers handled During the 9M16 period INTRALOT systems handled €17.3 bn. of wagers worldwide (from continuing operations), increased by 1.0% y-o-y. Africa increased by 22.6%, North America increased by 11.7%, East Europe increased by 3.2%, West Europe increased by 1.4%, South America decreased by 13.5% and Asia decreased by 6.5%.

 

GROSS MARGIN / OPERATING INCOME / OPEX

  • The Gross profit margin was shaped at 17.6% in 9M16 from 18.8% in 9M15, negatively affected mainly by a margin contraction in Bulgaria & Azerbaijan (due to a higher payout) and Turkey, partially counterbalanced by margin expansion in the US. The payout ratio in 9M16 increased by 3.7ppt vs. 9M15, while GGR increased by 4.3% in the same period. In 3Q16, the payout ratio increased by 4.9ppt. vs. 3Q15 (due to Bulgaria and Azerbaijan), while GGR increased by 7.6%.
  • Other operating income in 9M16 totaled €14.3m compared to €17.0m in 9M15, posting a decrease of 15.8%. The major drivers of this decrease were the non-recurring income in Australia due to the operations sale in 2Q15 (€3.6m) and negative FX impact (€1.0m), partially offset by improved operations in Turkey (€1.7m) and the growth in instant ticket services of our US operations (€1.4m).
  • Total operating expenses decreased by 2.8% to €109.9m in line with our strategy to contain costs.

 

EBITDA

  • EBITDA developed to €35.0m in 3Q16, posting a decrease of 14.3% compared to 3Q15. EBITDA in 9M16 shaped at €123.9m, increased by 2.4% y-o-y.
  • Constant currency basis: In 3Q16 EBITDA net of a negative FX impact of €5.1m reached €40.1m (-1.8% y-o-y), while in 9M16 EBITDA net of a negative FX impact of €17.2m shaped at €141.1m (+16.6% y-o-y).

 

EBT / NIATMI

  • EBT in 3Q16 was shaped at €-1.8m compared to €5.1m in 3Q15. In 9M16 EBT was €17.8m from €30.8m in 9M15 (€-13.0m), negatively affected by higher net financial costs (€6.9m), increased Exchange differences (€2.9m) and higher investing activities (€2.0m) and asset losses (€2.0m) in 9M16.
  • Constant currency basis: In 3Q16 EB? net of a negative FX impact reached €1.0m from €9.5m in 3Q15, while in 9M16 EBT net of a negative FX impact shaped at €34.7m (+17.6% y-o-y).
  • NIATMI from continuing operations in 3Q16 was shaped at €-18.6m compared to €-14.0m in 3Q15, while in 9M16 it was €-34.5m from €-36.7m in 9M15.
  • Constant currency basis: NIATMI from continuing operations in 3Q16 net of a negative FX impact reached €-18.5m from €-9.5m in 3Q15, while in 9M16 it was shaped at €-28.7m from €-37.4m in 9M15.

 

CASH-FLOW

  • Operating Cash-flow almost doubled in 9M16, at €121.1m vs. €64.8m in 9M15. The growth is mainly attributed to the WC improvement (+2.9m in 9M16 from -46.8m in 9M15).
  • Net Capex in 9M16 was €44.6m, compared to €53.7m in 9M15. Major Capex items in 9M16 include investments in our business in US of €10.5m, in Chile €4.9m and R&D of €5.2m.
  • Net debt in the 3rd quarter increased by €23.0m to €533.8m, due to third party dividends distribution of €9.5m to joint venture partners, M&A activities of €10.0m and negative FX of €1.8m.
  • LTM 9M16 Net Debt to EBITDA ratio adjusted for the proceeds from the Peruvian transaction that were received in November 2016 (€62.3m) and the redemption premium regarding the issuance of the 5-year €250m bond (€10.8m), is shaped at 2.88x.
  • In September 2016, the company completed the refinancing of the 2018 €325m bond through the issuance of a 2021 €250m bond. Recently the company obtained committed lines of €240m compared to €200m previously. As a result, the company will benefit from recurring annual interest cost savings in the area of €12-13m.
  • As of 30.09.2016 the Company didn't hold any of our bonds.

 

 

Revenues from Operation contracts (licenses) increased by 5.0% mainly due to higher revenues in Bulgaria, Malta and Cyprus, partially counterbalanced by the performance of Azerbaijan, Jamaica, Argentina and Brazil.

Sales from Management contracts posted an increase of 19.3% mainly driven by the performance of Turkey and Morocco.

Revenues from HW sales and facilities management increased by 10.5% mainly due to increased revenues in US and Australia, partially counterbalanced by the revenues in Argentina, an IT contract in Malaysia and the revenues from the Hellenic Lotteries.

Revenues for the period decreased by 10.4% to €47.3m.

EBITDA decreased to €1.7m from €37.2m in 9M15.

Camelot Statement on National Lottery Website

LONDON, UK (November 29, 2016) -- On 28 November 2016, as part of our online security monitoring, we became aware of suspicious activity on a very small proportion of our players’ online National Lottery Accounts.

We would like to make clear that there has been no unauthorised access to core National Lottery systems or any of our databases, which would affect National Lottery draws or payment of prizes. In addition, no money has been deposited or withdrawn from affected player accounts.

We are currently taking all the necessary steps to fully understand what has happened, but we believe that the email address and password used on the National Lottery website may have been stolen from another website where affected players use the same details.

We do not hold full debit card or bank account details in National Lottery players’ online accounts and no money has been taken or deposited. However, we do believe that this attack may have resulted in some of the personal information that the affected players hold in their online account being accessed.

Of our 9.5 million registered online players, we believe that around 26,500 players’ accounts were accessed. A much smaller number – fewer than 50 – have had some activity take place within the account since it was accessed. This was limited to some of their personal details being changed – and some of these details may have been changed by the players themselves. However, we have taken the measure of suspending the accounts of these players and are in the process of contacting them to help them re-activate their accounts securely. In addition, we have instigated a compulsory password reset on the accounts of the 26,500 affected players. We are in the process of proactively contacting them to help them change their passwords, as well as giving them some more general online security advice.

Cyber criminals such as this are persistent, and we are continuing to monitor and protect our systems. We are also working closely with the National Crime Agency and the National Cyber Security Centre on an ongoing basis on this criminal matter.

We’d like to reassure our customers that protecting their personal data is of the utmost importance to us. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to our players and would like to encourage those with any concerns to contact us directly, so we can discuss it with them in more detail.

Lotto NZ Announce Special Draw to Support Kaikoura Earthquake Relief

NEW ZEALAND (November 30, 2016) -- Lotto NZ today announced that all profits from next Saturday’s Lotto draw will go to help the people of Kaikoura.

All profits from the Lotto, Powerball and Strike draw on Saturday 10 December will be donated to the Kaikoura/Hurunui earthquake relief fund. This draw will take place in the usual way, in accordance with the Lotto Game Rules.

Lotto NZ exists to generate essential funding for Kiwi communities, with $204 million transferred to the NZ Lottery Grants Board last year to help make good things happen around the country. Lotto NZ provides a major source of funding for Sport New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, the New Zealand Film Commission and over 3,000 community organisations and projects every year.

Lotto NZ has held one previous special purpose lottery, on 5 March 2011, which generated $8 million in funding for Christchurch earthquake relief.

Media Release: Gambling Ministers Agree to Consumer Protection Framework for Online Wagering

CANBERRA, Australia (November 26, 2016) -- The Government has today reached agreement with State and Territory Ministers to establish a strong National Consumer Protection Framework for online wagering.

Chaired by the Minister for Human Services, Hon Alan Tudge MP, Commonwealth, state and territory gambling ministers met today in Melbourne and gave in-principle agreement to key aspects of the Government’s response to the O’Farrell Review of Illegal Offshore Wagering.

This includes:

  • a national self-exclusion register for online wagering;
  • a voluntary pre-commitment scheme for online wagering; and
  • prohibition of lines of credit being offered by wagering providers

 

The full details of the agreement are outlined in the Communique.

Officials will work on the details of each measure with final agreement next year

This agreement to progress the National Consumer Protection Framework is the second stage of the Government’s agenda to implement the O’Farrell Review.

Earlier in the month, Mr Tudge introduced legislation to crack down on illegal offshore wagering providers and clarify the law in relation to in-play betting.

Mr Tudge said that the agreement today was an important milestone.

“The agreement today will pave the way for stronger protections for everyday gamblers,” said Mr Tudge.

“The rate of problem gambling in the online space is three times higher than elsewhere and online gambling is growing by 15 percent per annum.  This means that the problems of the future are all coming from online punting unless we have better protections in place.

“The O’Farrell Review found that our current consumer protections are weak and considerably below best practice.  These practical initiatives that we have agreed today are aimed at reducing problem gambling, largely by giving people better information and tools to control their expenditure.

“A national self-exclusion register will be particularly important to help people who know they are starting to get themselves into trouble. With one click, they will be able to self-exclude from all online gambling providers,” said Mr Tudge.

Mr Tudge has advocated the prohibition of credit betting ever since an unemployed constituent of his was provided $80,000 in credit and almost lost his house.

New Jersey Lottery Achieves Highest Certification for Responsible Gaming from the World Lottery Association

NJL is Third in the Nation to Earn this Prestigious Certification

TRENTON, New Jersey (November 28, 2016) – New Jersey Lottery Executive Director Carole Hedinger announced today that the New Jersey Lottery (NJ Lottery) has received the highest level of achievement in Responsible Gaming from the World Lottery Association (WLA), a Level 4 Certification. NJ Lottery is the third state in the nation to be awarded this prestigious certification, after California and Indiana, joining the ranks of the most outstanding Lotteries around the world.

In an effort to enhance its knowledge of Responsible Gaming best practices, the NJ Lottery became a member of the World Lottery Association in 2012. It was in short sequence thereafter, that the Lottery pursued and achieved Level 1 (2012), Level 2 (2014) and Level 3 (2015) WLA Responsible Gaming Certifications. The most rigorous Certification is at Level 4, which the NJ Lottery applied for in September 2016, and has now received.

World Lottery Association Level 4 Certification is based on evaluation of 10 program elements including research, employee program, retailer program, game design, remote gaming channels, advertising and marketing communications, player education, treatment referral, stakeholder engagement, and reporting and measurement. The NJ Lottery Responsible Gaming program elements were reviewed by an Independent Assessment Panel (IAP) of international responsible gaming experts selected by the WLA, which evaluated the continuous improvements in program areas since the NJ Lottery’s previous level submissions. In its assessment of the NJ Lottery’s Level 4 Application the IAP stated, “The New Jersey Lottery has demonstrated a strong commitment and serious effort in developing its Responsible Gaming program.” The IAP also noted, “We can see that you have made significant progress since your Level 3 certification.” 

“I am extremely proud of the hard work the New Jersey Lottery has put into enhancing its Responsible Gaming Program in 2016 and in achieving the WLA’s Level 4 Certification,” New Jersey Lottery Executive Director Carole Hedinger said. “We have engaged all departments of the organization to ensure that the New Jersey Lottery promotes responsible play, the prevention of underage play, and the ease of access to information through our responsible play brochures and consistent advertising and marketing messaging that promote the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) and its 1-800-GAMBLER Helpline resource.”

Massachusetts Lottery’s Keno Game is Thriving, with Sales Climbing 20 Percent Since 2010

SALISBURY, Massachusetts (November 28, 2016) --  Keno drawings come every four minutes, a drumbeat of betting opportunities that make the lottery game an enduring staple of Massachusetts gambling and pub culture.

Keno, the random numbers game offered in many convenience stores and 1,200 bars and restaurants across the state rang up $900 million in sales last fiscal year, a popularity that belies its dated, somewhat dreary image. Even in an era of glitzy casinos and colossal lottery jackpots, the no-frills game has thrived, with sales climbing 20 percent since 2010.

That makes Massachusetts the country’s leading Keno purveyor by far, accounting for almost one-quarter of all Keno sales in the United States. Only New York comes close, but even with nearly three times the population, it falls short by $90 million.

Perhaps the key to its success lies in its widespread presence in restaurants, gas stations, liquor stores, and supermarkets. Players don’t have to seek the game out as much as stumble upon it.

The lottery has also sped up the game to 15 drawings each hour, a rate that provides almost instant gratification.

Keno’s durable popularity also rests on the success of the lottery as a whole, which ranks among the top states in total sales. Per capita spending on the Massachusetts lottery is almost $740 annually, by far the highest in the country, according to La Fleur’s Magazine, a trade journal.

Keno is also a simple game that can be played casually, leaving time to chat or watch the game. Players pick a combination of up to 12 numbers, and win cash prizes if their numbers are drawn. The more winning numbers, the bigger the prize.

Keno is often enjoyed in a social setting,” said Christian Teja, a lottery spokesman.

New Figures Show Online Gambling is Largest Gambling Sector in Britain

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (November 24, 2016) -- Online gambling accounts for 33% of all gambling in Britain, new figures released today reveal.

Gambling Commission industry statistics show that between April 2015 and March 2016 the online gambling operators generated a Gross Gambling Yield (GGY1) of £4.5billion.

This means online gambling is the largest gambling sector in Britain – over the same period £3.4billion was generated by the National Lottery, £3.3billion by the high street betting sector and £1billion by traditional casinos.

Of the £4.5billion generated online £2.6billion came from casino games, £1.6billion from betting, £152million from betting exchanges, £153million from bingo and £26million from pool betting. Online slot machine style games alone generated £1.8billion.

Other highlights of the report include:

  • Britain’s gambling industry generated a GGY of £13.6billion between April 2015 and March 2016
  • Between April 2015 and March 2016 the National Lottery contributed £1.8billion to good causes, representing a 7.2% increase on the previous year.
  • A total of £208m was raised for good causes through large society lotteries, representing a 10.5% increase on the previous year.
  • There are 8,709 betting shops in Britain as of September 2016, representing a 1.8% decrease from March 2015
  • The total number of gaming machines was 167,839, down 0.4% on the previous year
  • As of March 2016 there were 34,884 B2 gaming machines in Britain, down 0.9% on March 20152
  • There are 575 bingo premises in September 2016, down 4.3% on March 2016

Jumbo Interactive Announce German Business Scaling Down

Adverse market conditions in Germany are causing a number of licensed resellers to exit the market, transition to a secondary lottery market model, or wait until conditions improve.

After 2 years in the German market, it has become clear that market conditions are not favourable for a licensed reseller model. Whilst we strongly considered transitioning the business to a secondary lottery market model, it was decided that the Australian market holds more potential at this point in time”, said Mr Mike Veverka, CEO and Founder of Jumbo Interactive.

To continue operations in Germany under the current model, a much larger investment would be needed and even then, it is still uncertain that it would yield an acceptable return on investment within a reasonable timeframe”, he said.

The German business contributed losses after tax of $2.6 million in FY15 and $1.6 million in FY16 to the group. With the scaling down of this business, the contributed loss is expected to be approximately $1.0 million in the 2017 financial year and will not incur any further losses or expenses in future years.

A customer referral agreement has been signed with Lotto24, another independent lottery reseller, whereby Jumbo will receive payment for each of its customers that sign up to that website. The Jumbolotto.de website and app will continue to operate as a customer referral service and in the event that market conditions in Germany improve, management maintains the option to relaunch should the opportunity be attractive enough.

As part of the scaled down approach, Jumbo will no longer have a physical presence in Germany, nor will it incur any ongoing operational costs. Maintenance of a minimal digital presence will be absorbed by Jumbo’s Brisbane technology teams of which the cost will be negligible.

Jumbo’s Australian business is thriving and so it makes better sense to focus on areas that have a greater positive impact to our bottom line”, he concluded.

For example, since Charity Lotteries were included on the OzLotteries.com platform in June 2015, sales of those products now exceed the German business’ monthly Total Transaction Value and continue to grow at a greater rate whilst requiring minimal capital investment.

Exhibitors Get a Taste of the New ICC Sydney

SYDNEY, Australia (November 4, 2016) -- A group of 120 inquisitive exhibitors took over the new International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour today. Comprising both large and small exhibitors, with their exhibition contractors and their staff, along with the AGE coordinating team, it was a chance to get a firsthand glimpse of what is truly a world class venue for AGE 2017.

Divided into 5 groups of 24, with each group being led by two representatives of the ICC, the visitors were escorted into the building via the imposing main entrance stairway that leads to a very impressive exhibition foyer and registration area.

The groups then got to see the multi-purpose seminar rooms complete with smart lecterns, remote powered privacy screens and flexible seating arrangements.

They also got to see the enormous loading tunnel which will allow all four halls being used for AGE 2017, to be loaded simultaneously.

But the highlight of the visit was Hall 3 and while they saw only ½  of the massive 19,000 square metres of floor space that AGE will be occupying in 2017, one visitor was still impressed enough to describe the hall as ‘Cavernous”.

The whole group was then treated to a light lunch at L’Aqua on Cockle Bay where Ross Ferrar the CEO of the event organiser announced that “already 80% of the floor space has been sold for 2017”.
