Lotto Draw for Earthquake Relief

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (November 30, 2016) -- A pecial Lotto Draw is to raise funds for Kaikoura/Hurunui earthquake relief.

The draw will be held on Saturday 10 December to raise funds for the Kaikoura/Hurunui earthquake relief efforts, Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne announced today. The draw will include the Lotto family of games, Lotto, Powerball and Strike.

Raising money for the community is the fundamental purpose of Lotto New Zealand, with over $3.5 million in community funding being raised each week.

It is only fitting therefore, that profits from next Saturday’s special draw go towards relief efforts in Kaikoura/Hurunui and surrounding regions affected by the earthquake.

Profits from the Lotto draw will help support the affected communities to recover and following the magnitude 7.8 November 14 earthquake”, said Mr Dunne.

A similar special Lotto draw was held in March 2011 in the wake of the devastating Canterbury earthquake, resulting in over $8 million in lottery funding being allocated to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

The generosity of New Zealanders in 2011 was heartening and provided much needed support to the Canterbury community.

Sadly, it’s now our Kaikoura/Hurunui communities that have been the worst affected following the latest earthquakes. All profits from this special draw will go a long way to help Kaikoura/Hurunui rebuild so I encourage all New Zealanders to support this event.

I want to thank Lotto NZ and the Lotteries Commission and Grants Board for enabling this to happen”, Mr Dunne said.

The Lottery Grants Board distributes the profits of games run by New Zealand Lotteries to a range of regional, national and statutory bodies, and lottery funding is important funding in building strong, sustainable communities in New Zealand.

Sports Integrity Conference as Part of the International Sports Convention 2016

Key stakeholders call upon the entry into force of the Council of Europe Convention on Manipulation of Sport Competitions, welcoming the significant contribution of Lotteries to sports integrity

LAUSANNE / BRUSSELS (December 7, 2016) -- Major stakeholders in the fight against match fixing, convened in Geneva today on December 7, 2016 for the Sports Integrity Conference, which was part of the two-day International Sports Convention 2016 (ISC) and was supported by the European Lotteries (EL) and the World Lottery Association (WLA). More than 20 international speakers, of a diverse background, discussed the state of on-going work, facts and figures, and lessons learned from past cases and investigations, as well as forward-looking strategies.

The stakeholders agreed that the entry into force of the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions is now essential, and even more states need to start developing their national platforms.

The significant contribution of Lotteries in the fight against match-fixing through the provision of information on irregular betting patterns via their risk management systems and the establishment of the Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) was highlighted and welcomed.

Commenting on the Sports Integrity Conference, Chairman of EL Sport Committee, Torbjørn Almlid, noted “It is clear that the setting up of national platforms, cooperation and sharing of information among all relevant stakeholders, as also required by the Macolin Convention, are vital for the fight against the phenomenon. Lotteries all over Europe are already actively contributing towards this direction. As highlighted by many speakers, though, illegal betting operators pose obstacles and undermine the efficient information sharing among the national actors and it is vital that states need take concrete measures against illegal betting.

Austrian Association for Betting and Gambling Joins EGBA

BRUSSELS, Belgium (December 3, 2016) -- The EGBA and the Austrian Association for Betting and Gambling (OVWG) are pleased to announce that OVWG has joined EGBA as its newest member as per 2 December 2016.

Claus Retschitzegger, President of the OVWG said: "OVWG faces many challenges on the Austrian market and joining the EGBA will strengthen our position both in Austria and on EU level. EGBA has been the leading voice for the industry in Europe for many years, and we can now benefit from their vast experience of other European markets and knowledge of EU law and procedures. The prime objective of OVWG is to support the enactment of a new, fair and modern regulation for online gambling in Austria".

After welcoming in recent years the Gibraltar and Swedish trade associations to the EGBA, OVWG is the third affiliate member to join the EGBA. Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA said: "We are very pleased that OVWG has joined EGBA and we look forward to cooperating. It is puzzling that even Austria, where so many successful online operators originate from, still has no online gambling regulation in place that fits with the realities of the digital economy and online consumer behaviour."

Commenting on the current status of online gambling in Austria, Claus Retschitzegger, underlined: "There is too much legal uncertainty with the current regime in Austria for many years. Now, as a relatively new interest group in Austria, we are ready and willing to contribute to a new regulation that is both EU compliant and strong on player protection." Haijer added: "Our continued membership growth is also a testament to the importance of influencing the discussions at EU level, as EU digital regulation increasingly applies to the online gambling sector. For an evidently cross border sector like ours the proper application and enforcement of EU law becomes ever more important."

For more information, please CONTACT: Claus Retschitzegger, President, OVWG, E:, Tel: +43 676 840988109 or Maarten Haijer, Secretary General, EGBA, E:, Tel: +32 2 554.08.90.

About OVWG

The Austrian Association for Betting and Gambling (OVWG) is the voluntary coalition of international online providers for sports betting and gambling operating in Austria. The aim of OVWG is to achieve a regulation which provides a clear framework of fair competition for regulated operators in line with EU law. Its members are Bet-at-home, Cashpoint, Interwetten, Leovegas, Meridian Bet, Mr Green, Unibet, Tipico, Wettpunkt.

About the EGBA

The EGBA is an association of leading European gaming and betting operators Bet-at-home, BetClic, GVC/, Expekt, and Unibet. The Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA), Branschföreningen för Onlinespel (BOS) and the Oesterreichische Vereinigung für Wetten und Glücksspiel (OVWG) are affiliate members of EGBA.

As a Brussels-based non-profit association, EGBA promotes the rights of more than 20 million adult European citizens to participate in online gambling of their choice in an informed, regulated, safe and secure environment.

While online gambling remains a smaller part of the total gambling market (15%), based upon innovation, technology and digital consumer demand, online gambling transformed itself into an industry champion of the European digital economy with material spin-off effects towards other digital economies and strong synergies with sports. EGBA members have invested more than €600M into digital security and contributed to sports with more than €800M, mainly via sponsorship deal and purchasing innovative sports streaming rights.

Lottery Profits Remain Steady

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (December 2, 2016) -- Kentucky Lottery sales are ahead of last year but slightly below budget, according to a report in today's meeting of the lottery's board of directors. Vice President and Corporate Controller Maggie Garrison reported year-to-date (July-October) sales of $314.3 million, which is nearly $4 million (1.3%) more than sales for the same period last year of $310.3 million.

This is however $13 million (4%) less than budget for the period of $327.3 million. Even though sales are lower than budgeted, income before transfer of dividends remains ahead of the budgeted number.

This amount year-to-date is $80.2 million, which is $4.4 million (5.9%) more than last year and $167,000 (0.2%) more than budgeted.

"We're heading into the time of year which is always our best sales period," said the lottery's Executive Vice President and CFO Howard Kline. "Even though sales are a little lower than we'd hoped, by effectively managing operating expenses we continue to meet the bottom line of what we need to return to the Commonwealth for our college scholarship and grant programs."

Board Vice Chair Mark Sommer reported on progress being made in the search for the lottery's next president and CEO. Sommer said according to the firm conducting the search (Louisville-based The Oliver Group), there have been nearly 300 applicants for the position. The board will narrow that field and submit recommendations to the governor, who will name the new leader. Sommer said he hopes to have the process completed by the end of January. In other business, the board approved:

A lease renewal with Bradley and Spurlock for regional office and storage space in Prestonsburg Rules and regulations for 23 scratch-off tickets, five instant play games and amended rule for Kentucky Cash Ball.

National Lottery Christmas Ad Campaign Kicks-Off

LONDON, U.K. (December 6, 2016) -- The National Lottery’s Christmas campaign kicks off tomorrow with TV ads airing from 6am – you can download the advert here:

The 40-second animated ad – which was developed by AMV through Art&Graft in conjunction with Camelot’s in-house team – and wider campaign build on the momentum generated by the success of The National Lottery’s ‘I Am Team GB’ and ‘I Am ParalympicsGB’ campaigns.

The Christmas campaign celebrates the landmark figure of 500,000 lottery-funded projects and thanks National Lottery players for what they make possible across the nation – across the arts, heritage, sport, health, education, environment and charities.

Fastrak Lottery Services

The ad plays out to the James track ‘Nothing But Love’ – which has been specially re-recorded using a children’s choir. It sees National Lottery tickets and Scratchcards joining together to form a flock that travels the length of the nation – transforming communities and individuals as it goes, in exactly the same way that National Lottery funding does.

The ad opens with a ticket landing on a derelict wasteland that is then transformed into a new park. The ticket soon joins others and flies over Cardiff Castle and the Giant’s Causeway – both of which have had lottery funding – before swooping over an ordinary lorry, which magically becomes a mobile family cinema.

The tickets then go on to revisit the success in Rio – soaring over a Team GB athlete as she crosses the finish line – before culminating in a festive village square, with the choir singing and people ice skating. The voiceover thanks National Lottery players for their contribution in supporting over 500,000 Good Cause projects, with the end-frame featuring a ‘Thank You’ in fireworks.

Arabella Gilchrist, Head of Brand for The National Lottery, said: “This campaign is about celebrating the fantastic things that the public do to enrich the nation by playing National Lottery games – and what better time of the year to say thank you than at Christmas. National Lottery players raise more than £30 million every week – which goes towards arts, sport, heritage and community projects in every neighbourhood across the UK.”

A Joy to Give, but Not to Kids: Give Lottery Products Responsibly

KAMLOOPS, B.C., Canada (December 5, 2016) -- Every year, as part of our own holiday tradition, BCLC reminds parents and adults that lottery products such as Scratch & Wins are a form of gambling, and not suitable gifts for children and minors.

This year’s campaign, titled ‘A Joy to Give, but Not to Kids,’ encourages responsible play and responsible gift-giving through online and social media outreach, as well as through digital signage at more than 3,900 lottery retailers and all casinos and community gaming centres across the province.

Lottery products may be great stocking stuffers, but not for children and youth. It is important that parents and adults understand the risks and impacts associated with underage gambling. Research has shown a correlation between the introduction of gambling products to underage children and potential problem gambling behaviour later in life. In fact, kids are more likely to gamble than to do drugs, smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol, yet it is a topic that is less frequently discussed between a parent and their child. This is why BCLC encourages parents to start a conversation with their children about the risks of gambling, and make a conscious decision not to give them lottery products as gifts.

Additional information can be found on to learn more about the comprehensive programs in place to help players make informed choices about gambling. BCLC also encourages parents and other adults to access our GameSense for Parents program which gives parents tools and resources to start a conversation with kids about gambling

AGE 2017 is Already Setting New Records

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (December 9, 2016) -- Visitor registration is open for AGE 2017, a full 7 months prior to when we were able to open it for the 2016 Expo and as with last year, Social Media is making registration a simplified process with auto-filled fields via the most popular social networks on the planet. Registrants will be able to see who is attending, identify the most meaningful and relevant Gaming Expo contacts who they’ll benefit from meeting at the Event. We’ve also considered returning visitors, with fields pre-populated, requiring just a couple of clicks to complete the registration.

And of course by registering now will save time by avoiding having to line up on the day. To complete the social media registration just click on this link here.

In another milestone for AGE, with 20% more floor space than what we had in 2016, 90% of the floor space has already been taken by 176 exhibitors. This is exciting news with 9 months to go until the show’s start date, which is the world’s third largest casino gaming equipment exhibition.

Our optimism was further confirmed recently about the event's future at the new ICC Sydney at Darling Harbour.  In November a group of 120 inquisitive exhibitors visited the ICC for a sneak peek of what to expect. Comprising both large and small exhibitors, with their exhibition contractors and their staff, along with the AGE coordinating team, it was a chance to get a first-hand glimpse of what is truly a world class venue for AGE 2017. The highlight of the visit was Hall 3 and while they saw only ½  of the massive 19,000 square metres of floor space that AGE will be occupying in 2017, one visitor was still impressed enough to describe the hall as ‘Cavernous”.

Taking advantage of the multi-purpose seminar rooms complete with smart lecterns at the new ICC Sydney, at AGE 2017 we will be running complimentary seminars for registered exhibition visitors. The seminars will include a “Global CEOs Forum”, to be moderated by Michael Pascoe and a “Women in Gaming” event, along with a range of sessions about topical issues.

The Australasian Gaming Expo is on the 15th to the 17th August, 2017.

NOTE: The Australasian Gaming Expo is a trade exhibition, for management representatives of Gaming Industry Organisations only including government, regulatory, research and support bodies, clubs, hotels, casinos, resorts and similar Hospitality Industry venues.  Trade suppliers are not eligible to attend the event unless exhibiting.

The Gaming Technologies Association’s primary members are Ainsworth Game Technology, Aristocrat Technologies, Aruze Gaming Australia, Scientific Games, Ebet Limited, IGT Australia and Konami Australia.
