first quarter contribution to the states Educational Enhancement Trust

Record sales mean great
things for Lottery players and retailers, but most importantly for our

Lottery staff, as well as our loyal players and retailers, I know this is only
the beginning of what the Lottery will achieve this year.
Strong Scratch-Off sales of more

Lottery Shatters Records with $5 Billion in Sales
Nets $1.373 billion for
Texas public schools and $14.7 million for Texas veterans
AUSTIN, Texas (September 29, 2016)
The Texas Lottery announced that it has achieved $5.068 billion in sales
for fiscal year 2016, breaking the sales record it set just last fiscal
year and resulting in a total contribution of $1.392 billion to Texas,
the single largest annual transfer of revenue to the state. In celebration of
the record sales and revenue, the Texas Lottery unveiled a new billboard today
at an event at Texas Lottery headquarters in Austin.
This is the first time in
our history that we have generated more than $5 billion in sales and we want to
thank Texas Lottery players and our more than 17,000 retailers for their
outstanding support, said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas
We are excited to celebrate
the extraordinary growth we have achieved and proud to make our largest
contributions ever to both Texas public schools and veterans
This years revenue transfer
included $1.373 billion to the Foundation School Fund and $14.7 million to the
Fund for Veterans Assistance. The Texas Lottery has now contributed more
than $19 billion to Texas public education and more than $66 million to Texas
veterans since the dedication of such funds by the Texas Legislature.
The Beneficiaries: Texas
Education and Texas Veterans
The Foundation School Fund,
administered by the Texas Education Agency, funds the operational needs and
special program services for Texas school districts including teacher salaries,
utilities, equipment, bilingual education, special education, gifted and
talented education, and career and technical education.
The Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans
Assistance makes grants available to eligible charitable organizations,
local government agencies, and Veterans Service Organizations that provide
direct services to Texas veterans and their families. With 1.7 million veterans
spread across the state, these programs provide financial assistance,
transportation services, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder counselling and housing
Strong Scratch Ticket
Scratch ticket sales for FY 16
totalled $3.72 billion, the highest scratch ticket sales in Texas Lottery
Our growth can be primarily
attributed to two factors, another year of strong sales across our entire
scratch ticket game portfolio, which accounted for 73 percent of our total
sales, and the record $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot that occurred in
January, said Grief.
In addition to record-breaking
sales, the Texas Lotterys careful spending kept administrative costs to
just 4.4 percent of FY 16 sales, one of the lowest administrative expenditure
rates in the country.
Our continued success is
partially attributed to the cost containment measures taken in our
administrative budget, said Grief. Any unspent
administrative funds are returned directly to the Foundation School
Texas Lottery players and retailers
also had a great year. Players collected $3.27 billion in prizes, the highest
amount of prizes paid out in Texas Lottery history.
For the Lotterys retailers
that sell lottery tickets across the state, commissions, bonuses and incentives
amounted to $273.3 million, the highest amount paid to retailers in Texas
The Lottery continues to do
an outstanding job managing and maintaining a broad portfolio of scratch and
draw games with the highest integrity, said J. Winston Krause,
chairman of the Texas Lottery Commission. I am very proud of the
significant support we have provided to Texas education and

Commission Starts Two-Way Conversation with Consumers
BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (October 3, 2016)
--The Gambling Commission is calling for consumers, and bodies that represent
consumers, to help shape how it works with the public.
Today the Commission has published a
two-way conversation: our plan for communicating with consumers which sets out
its approach to those who gamble or have an interest in gambling.
In a video-blog Commission chief
executive Sarah Harrison said: We want gambling companies to do much more
to put consumers at the heart of the businesses were doing this
via the regulations that we set and the way in which we go about enforcing
But we know we also have to
do more ourselves to tap into consumer concerns, understand consumer interests
and communicate better with consumers thats consumers who enjoy
gambling, as well as those for whom it may become a real
Ms Harrison explained that the
Commissions plan was based on three themes: increasing transparency and
clarity, being more responsive and working in partnerships, for example with
organisations who represent consumers interests.
Commenting on the new plan Dirk
Hansen, chief executive at GamCare, said: Its great to see that the
Commission is further developing their views in order to fully appreciate how
gambling affects consumers.
As a provider of support
services to individuals harmed by gambling, we welcome this level of interest
both in obtaining information on consumer behaviour, and in reaching out
directly to consumers to obtain their perspective.
Katie Fry, a gambling support
service project manager at Citizens Advice, added: We are very pleased
that the Commission is seeking out views from a variety of organisations who
already place the consumer at the heart of their work. This will add valuable
insight from those who are already committed to this area.

wishes to respond to the plan can do so by emailing:

1 Million Took Part in I Am Team GB
- Rio homecoming celebration was the nations
biggest ever sports participation event
- More than 2,600 free events hosted across the UK,
with returning Olympians appearing at events across the nation
- New research from YouGov suggests more than 4
million people intend to be more active as a result of I Am Team GB
UNITED KINGDOM (October 4, 2016) --
I Am Team GB, staged by The National Lottery and ITV was the UKs biggest
ever sports participation event, new research has shown.
The event was to welcome home
Britains Olympic heroes, encourage people to get active alongside them
and to thank National Lottery players for the part they played in helping to
fund the athletes and elite sport. YouGov research commissioned by ITV, The
National Lottery and the British Olympic Association has revealed that nearly 1
million people took part in I Am Team GB, The Nations Biggest Sports Day
on Saturday 27 August, when ITV switched off all of its channels for an hour to
encourage the nation to get involved.
Following a hugely successful,
cross-channel campaign to drive participation, the event exceeded all
Its target was to encourage 300,000
people to participate, but new figures suggest that more than 970,000 people
actually took part in I Am Team GB events at flagship locations and local
sports clubs, or just took the opportunity to do something active on their own
or with their family such as going for a run or a bike ride.
A selection of Team GBs finest
Lottery-funded Olympians, with 50 medals between them, including 21 Gold, 22
Silver and 7 Bronze, supported I Am Team GB by attending events the length and
breadth of the UK.
Medal winners such as Max Whitlock
and Charlotte Dujardin, Alistair Brownlee and Greg Rutherford were among some
of the biggest names in Olympic sport to take part, together with ITV stars
such as Alesha Dixon and Ben Fogle, who joined the nearly 1 million people at I
Am Team GB events across the country.
The public were invited to take part
in the record-breaking sports day at 14 flagship events, including activities
held on the sets of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. In addition, 2,600 events
were hosted by local sports clubs and organisations nationwide which have also
confirmed record numbers of attendees.
All of the events were free and
didnt require a ticket, allowing everyone to turn up and have a go.
There were 85 different sports and
activities on offer for the public to try. From aikido and American football to
disability swimming and dodgeball, scuba diving and snooker, to volleyball and
weightlifting there was something for everyone irrespective of age,
fitness or ability.
Significantly, of the almost 1
million people who took part, the YouGov research reveals that over half (52%)
were not keen on sport preferring to do other things than sport or
activity in their spare time and also showed that 68% agreed that they are
likely to do more exercise as a result of the event . An additional
online survey by ABA Research showed that 48% tried a new activity for the
The day was an incredibly inclusive
event. It attracted people from every nation and region, across all ages,
socio economic groups, ethnicities and abilities; 17% of participants were from
BAME backgrounds, 24% had a disability or health problem which limits their
activity a lot, over half of the participants (52%) were families (households
with children), 46% were women and more than a third (38%) were over 40 years
Furthermore, the YouGov research
suggests that, of those aware of the I Am Team GB campaign, over 4 million
people say they now feel inspired to do more exercise, so the day should play
an important role in kick-starting participation in sports and exercise more
I Am Team GB took place in
conjunction with the British Olympic Association (BOA), UK Sport and was
supported by Join In. It was also supported by Sport England, Public
Health England, parkrun, GLL, Pitchero amongst others.
Clare Phillips, Head of Brand
Planning ITV: Were delighted that nearly a million people came
out on bank holiday weekend to take part in I Am Team GB and try a new
sport. ITV put everything into this initiative; talent, editorial,
marketing, iconic locations like Coronation Street and Emmerdale and, of
course, we switched off all our channels for the first time in our history. As
the nations biggest commercial broadcaster, were proud to have
helped mark Team GBs incredible performance in Rio and brought people
across the UK together for this unique moment.
Sally Cowdry, Consumer and Retail
Director for The National Lottery, said: National Lottery players have
contributed over £80 million a year to support over 1,300 athletes for
sporting success in Rio and beyond and we wanted to create a nationwide
event that everyone could participate in as a way of truly thanking them for
their backing. Were delighted that nearly 1 million people took the
opportunity to get active and hope that the sparks of a few future Olympic
careers will have been ignited as a result.
Bill Sweeney, Chief Executive
Officer at the BOA, said: The stories that came from Rio 2016 were an
inspiration to many and I Am Team GB proved to be the perfect homecoming for
the returning athletes and exceeded all expectations we had for the event. We
shared in the National Lottery and ITVs vision for the Nations
Biggest Ever Sports Day and the numbers and engagement on the day truly speak
for themselves. It also showcased the incredible work being undertaken by the
sports National Governing Bodies and once again highlighted that sport
can be accessible and enjoyable for all, but we know that this event must form
part of the bigger picture of getting people active and engaged with sport week
after week for a healthy active nation.
Liz Nicholl, Chief Executive of UK
Sport, said: We are immensely proud that our Olympians, who delivered
so resoundingly for the nation in Rio, were once again able to play their part
in inspiring the nation to get active by joining in the nations biggest
ever sports day on 27thAugust. We believe in the power of our athletes to
inspire the nation and together with the National Lottery and ITV through this
incredibly special and innovative event they were able to do so again."
