IGT Acquires Assets From Leap Forward Gaming, Inc.


LONDON, U.K. (November 8, 2016) -- International Game Technology PLC ("IGT") (NYSE:IGT) announced that it has acquired certain assets including several patents and other intellectual property from Leap Forward Gaming, Inc. ("LFG") relating to LFG's SaffariNet® Patron Display Interface® (PDI) picture-in-picture multimedia ecosystem technology. IGT also agreed to dismiss its litigation with LFG.

Pennsylvania Lottery Mobile App Now Checks All Tickets


MIDDLETOWN, Pennsylvania (November 3, 2016) -- Players asked for it, and now the Pennsylvania Lottery’s official mobile app can scan both instant and draw game tickets to check for winners.

When we introduced a ticket checker for instant games in March, players immediately asked us to expand it to check draw game tickets,” said Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “Our mobile app adds excitement and fun for Pennsylvania Lottery players who are on-the-go.” 

The ticket checker feature is simple and convenient to use. Start by logging into the VIP Players Club.


On an instant ticket, players should reveal the “Scratch to Cash” barcode. Then, open the ticket checker on the mobile app and point the camera at the barcode. The app will indicate whether the ticket has won a prize.

For a draw game ticket (such as a PICK game, Cash 5, Match 6 Lotto, Powerball®, Mega Millions®, Cash4Life®, or Treasure Hunt), players should open ticket checker and point the camera at the bar code on either lower corner of the ticket.

The app will indicate whether the ticket has won a prize.

Players should immediately sign their winning tickets.

To claim a prize, players must physically present a ticket for validation by having it scanned at a Lottery retailer’s sales terminal or by submitting the signed ticket with a completed claim form to a Lottery office.

Only a properly validated winning ticket may be used to claim a prize.

Available for free through Google Play and the Apple App Store, the Pennsylvania Lottery’s official mobile app’s other features include:

  • The ability to scan eligible tickets for entry in second-chance drawings;
  • Access to the VIP Players Club;
  • Daily and past winning numbers;
  • Current jackpots;
  • The latest instant games and “Scratch For Fun”;
  • Prizes remaining for instant games;
  • “Play for Fun” games;
  • A retailer locator; and
  • Information on how to claim a prize.


The mobile app has been enormously popular with Pennsylvania Lottery players, with more than 410,000 downloads since its launch.

After logging into the free VIP Players Club, players may also use the app’s scanning capability to enter eligible tickets into second-chance drawings found in the Second Chance Prize Zone™. In a recent second-chance drawing, more than 65 percent of entries were made through the mobile app.

Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the winning numbers, prize payouts, winning ticket status and other information offered via the Pennsylvania Lottery's mobile app. The official winning numbers are those selected in the respective drawings and recorded under the observation of an independent accounting firm. In the event of a discrepancy, the official drawing results and prize validation systems shall prevail.

Lighted Menu Boards from Schafer Systems Drive Sales

OVERLAND PARK, KS (November 2016) -- A test of lighted menu boards across Missouri showed double digit growth in Scratchers ticket sales.

Several convenience stores in Missouri recently participated in a test of replacing standard menu boards with lighted menu boards from Schafer Systems.  Tests, conducted by Henderson Kessinger Consulting, Inc., in 16 stores in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield and Jefferson City showed a 14.4 percent overall increase in Scratchers ticket sales using the lighted menu boards. 

Results were especially large in three regions.  Test stores in the Kansas City region showed average sales increases of 22.3 percent in test stores, compared to a 16.9 percent gain for control stores during the test.  In the Springfield region, test stores showed a 19.4 percent gain compared to 12.4 percent for control stores.  In St. Louis, test stores gained an average of 17.3 percent against an average sales gain of 9.7 percent among control stores during the test.

It’s the first thing you see when you walk into the store,” Heather McKinney, store manager of Fast Gas #3 in St. Joseph, said as she raved about the lighted menu boards.  “People love it and it catches their attention,” she explained.

James Applewhite, store manager at Signal Food #109, in Springfield, Mo., echoed those observations and said, “I like the menu boards a lot.  They draw a lot of attention.”

In addition to driving sales, many store managers noted that the lighted menu boards speed up the lines.

It really helps to speed up the line as customers make their decisions while waiting in line,” said Mark Wiseman, manager of Westland Travel #15 in St. Louis.  “The lighted menu board captures customers we were not getting in the past.”  Westland reported a 31.2 percent sales gain in Scratchers tickets during the test.

The test was conducted over the summer among 16 convenience and gas stores across Missouri.  The reaction among participating stores was almost universally positive, with managers reporting increased sales, faster lines and more customer interactions.

One St. Louis manager said that customers used to ask at least 10 times a day whether the store carried lottery games.  “They have not asked once since we installed the lighted menu board!” the manager said.

Another St. Louis manager noted that the lighted menu board gives the display “a more professional look to the front counter.”  A player at the store chimed in that the menu board makes it easier to make a game selection.  Another player in Kansas City reported that the lighted board makes it easier to read the cards in the display.

The lighted menu board also serves to speed up lines at the cash register since players can decide what games to buy before making it to the point of purchase.  That helps reduce labor costs and build customer satisfaction by eliminating idle time in line.

WyoLotto Makes Third Revenue Transfer to Wyoming


CHEYENNE, Wyoming (November 4, 2016) -- WyoLottoTM brings the fun and excitement of the lottery to players across the state and throughout the region. As a part of the Lottery’s goal to give back to Wyoming, WyoLotto made a third transfer of revenue to the state on October 7.

This revenue transfer, totalling $797,638, brings the Lottery’s total revenue transfer amount to $2,832,638 since April of this year. WyoLotto looks forward to building on the success that has made these transfers possible and will launch the Lottery’s newest game, Lucky For Life, on Dec. 4. Lucky for Life is a draw game offering players a grand prize of $1,000 a day for life.

WyoLotto is committed to contributing to the Wyoming communities that have supported the organization from the start. By paying off the Lottery’s start up loan early, WyoLotto was able to make their first transfer to the state of more than $1 million sooner than anticipated on April 5.

For years, Wyoming’s lottery players spent money in neighboring states. Svenska Spel Report Continued Growth in Mobile Sales


SWEDEN (October 26, 2016) – Svenska Spel strengthens the digital customer experience and have a good growth in mobile, which increased 55 per cent. Keno and Euro Jackpot continues to develop positively.

Net gaming revenues for the third quarter amounted to 2153 million, which was 32 million or just over 1.5 percent lower than the same period last year.

Net gaming revenues for the first three quarters amounted to 6 546 million, which was 11 million, or 0.2 percent more than the same period last year. The result amounted to 1200 million for the third quarter which is 19 million or 1.6 percent lower than the same period last year.

Sales via mobile increased by 55 percent during the quarter compared with the same period last year. At the end of the quarter was another new record with 161,000 unique customers during a single week played via mobile phones.

We increased net gaming revenues for the first three quarters compared to the previous year. Football Championship and an expanded gaming in sports was appreciated by customers and contributed to good sales in the third quarter. During the quarter, we also saw a positive development, especially for Keno and Eurojackpot,” says Swedish Spel CEO Lennart Käll.

With just over six months to the games presented investigation is Swedish Games in a strong position. To further enhance the gaming experience, we focus on innovation and has sought permission for a number of new game types such as e-sports and fantasy sports,” concludes Lennart Käll.



July-September in brief

  • Net gaming revenue for the Group amounted to SEK 2 153 M (2 185), a decrease of 1.5%.

First ‘Lucky for Life’ $1,000 a Day for Life Prize Won in North Carolina

Dad Gives Daughter the Gift of a Lifetime


RALEIGH, North Carolina (November 3, 2016) -- Manalle Earnhardt of Salisbury will get $1,000 A Day for the rest of her life thanks to her dad, who gave her a ticket that won the top prize in the new Lucky For Life game.

The ticket made Earnhardt the first person in North Carolina to win the game’s top prize. It beat the odds of 1 in 30.8 million in the Thursday, Oct. 20 drawing to win $1,000 A Day For Life.

Earnhardt said her dad buys lottery tickets for her and her brother on a regular basis, but she never expected to win.

He likes to play,” Earnhardt said. “He wants to see us enjoy playing as well. This is so surreal.”


Her dad owns The Crossroads on Bringle Ferry Road in Salisbury, but stopped by the Fast Stop on Andrews Street to get the $2 ticket. 

Earnhardt found out she had a winning ticket when her dad called her the next morning.

At first I thought something bad had happened,” Earnhardt said. “When you’re dead asleep, that’s the first thing you think.”

But then her dad told her to check her ticket.

You look at those numbers and you’re not sure if you’re looking at them right,” Earnhardt said. “You think, ‘How can this be?’

After learning she won, Earnhardt called her husband and then went to work at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury where she’s spent the last ten years as a nurse in the emergency room.

It still didn’t seem real at that point,” Earnhardt said.

It started to when she claimed her prize on Wednesday. Earnhardt had the option of taking a lump sum of $5.75 million or the annuity prize of $365,000 a year. She chose the annuity, and received her first annual payment. After federal and state tax withholdings the win amounted to $252,763.

The prize is guaranteed for at least 20 years to the winner’s estate or heirs. That means Earnhardt, who just turned 39, will receive at least $7.28 million. The annuity payments will continue for the rest of her life, which means she could receive $10.9 million over thirty years or $14.6 million over forty years.

Even though she won the prize of a lifetime, she plans to work until retirement.

I love what I do,” Earnhardt said. “I didn’t serve in the service, so this is my way of giving back to the veterans.”

While she plans to keep working, she said winning the top Lucky For Life prize is a big stress reliever.

I don’t have to worry about retirement now,” Earnhardt said. “I don’t have to worry about college for my two boys, or all of these other things. It’s nice to know it’s taken care of.”

While all of these things are long term, Earnhardt plans to get a pool in the near future.

I’m so excited for her,” Isbanioly said. “This is the best thing to give to my kids and make them happy.”

To win the top Lucky For Life prize, the ticket matched all six numbers drawn. Players have 10 ways to win a prize playing the game. In the nine months since tickets went on sale in North Carolina, nine players have won the game’s second prize of $25,000 A Year For Life.

In all, 21 lotteries offer the Lucky For Life game. Drawings are held every Monday and Thursday night.

Inspired to Commence Greek VLT Rollout with Greek Betting and Lottery Operator OPAP

Inspired will supply 3,960 cabinets to the Greek operator in 2017

Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Release October 2016 Index

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 8, 2016) -- The AGEM Index posted another increase in October 2016 after gaining 20.46 points in September 2016.


The composite index stood at 321.90 points at the close of the month, which represents an increase of 15.04 points, or 4.9 percent, when compared to September 2016. The AGEM Index reported a year-over-year increase for the 13th consecutive month, rising 124.68 points, or 63.2 percent, when compared to October 2015.

During the latest period, six of the 13 global gaming equipment manufacturers reported month-to-month increases in stock price, with three up by more than 10 percent.

Seven manufacturers reported decreases in stock price during the month, with four reporting double-digit drops.

The broader stock markets reported negative results in October 2016 due partially to speculation surrounding the upcoming national election.

The S&P 500 reported a month-to-month decrease of 1.9 percent, falling to 2,126.15.

Additionally, the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 0.9 percent to 18,142.42, while the NASDAQ decreased 2.3 percent during the period to 5,189.14.

Selected positive contributors to the October 2016 AGEM Index included the following:

  • International Gaming Technologies (IGT) contributed 12.51 points due to a 17.80 percent increase in stock price to $28.72.
  • Crane Co. (CR) reported a stock price of $68.01 (+7.94 percent) and contributed 3.84 points.
  • With a stock price of ¥4,145 (+6.42 percent), Konami Corp (TYO: 9766) contributed 2.45 points to the overall index.


Selected negative contributors included the following:

  • With a stock price of AU$15.34 (-2.97 percent), Aristocrat Technologies (ASX) contributed negative 3.32 points.
  • Ainsworth Game Technology (AGI) contributed negative 1.16 points due to a 20.89 percent decline in stock price to AU$1.78.


A number of industry manufacturers released financial results for the third quarter of 2016 in recent months. Selected company highlights below suggest mostly positive results for key players in the industry.

Scientific Games (SGMS) reported $720 million in revenue for the third quarter of 2016. This represents a $48.4 million increase over the prior year and year-over-year growth of 7 percent. Social gaming was a major driver as sales were up 81 percent while gaming machine sales increased 22 percent. Table products sales were up 9.3 percent, as well. However, gaming operations, the largest revenue generator for Scientific Games' gaming segment, declined 5.9 percent to $182.4 million as the installed base of gaming machines decreased year over year, which additionally resulted in a lower mix of high-yielding games.


While Konami Corp. offers a wide range of products and entertainment devices, gambling units have become a much smaller portion of the company's business model. In the first half of fiscal year 2016, pachislot and pachinko machines accounted for ¥5.3 billion or nearly 5 percent of Konami's total revenues. One year later, this business unit now accounts for just ¥800 million worth of revenues. With an 85 percent drop in year-over-year sales, slots account for less than 1 percent of Konami's ¥101.4 billion in revenues.

However, Konami's gaming and systems segment is still a large earner for the company, turning in ¥13.8 billion in the first half of the 2017 fiscal year. Konami installed its casino management system "SYNKROS" at the Barona Resort & Casino near San Diego while introducing several new casino game products, such as the skill-based game Beat Square.

In recent news, Aristocrat announced a cross-licensing agreement with IGT covering certain game features and system patents. The companies have since set aside all outstanding litigation surrounding intellectual property. As part of the deal, Aristocrat can offer games that include patented features from IGT in exchange for licensing fees. IGT reached a similar agreement with Everi Games just a few days later.

IGT has also announced its selection for the casino management system for the new Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The new property expects to open in early December. IGT will be installing the latest version of its casino management system, which offers advanced marketing, player communication and floor optimization services. IGT will also occupy the largest floor share of the new casino and feature 12 of its new electronic table games systems.

The AGEM Index

The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) produces the monthly AGEM Index that comprises 14 global gaming suppliers throughout the world. A total of 9 suppliers are based in the United States and are listed on the NYSE, Nasdaq or OTC market, while two trade on the Australian exchange, one supplier trades on the Athens exchange, one on the Tokyo exchange, and another trades on the Taiwan OTC exchange.


The index is computed based on the month-end stock price (adjusted for dividends and splits) of each company and weighted based on approximation of market capitalization. Market capitalizations for manufacturers trading on foreign exchanges have been converted to US dollar-equivalents as of month-end for comparability purposes. The AGEM Index is based on a 100-point value as of January 2005.

Gambling Commission Challenges Operators to Quicken Pace of Consumer Focus

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (November 8, 2016) -- The Gambling Commission is today calling for operators to accelerate the pace at which they are putting consumers at the heart of business decisions.

The call came from Commission chief executive Sarah Harrison during a speech to operators at the Commission’s first Raising Standards Conference in Birmingham, where the industry was challenged to become the most trusted gambling sector in the world.

Ms Harrison said that while operators had been making progress in areas including the development and implementation of harm reduction strategies and gambling management tools for consumers, there was still more to be done.


She said: “But you need to raise your ambitions and your sights higher.  You need to step up the pace of change - in how you handle customer complaints; ensure advertising is clear; simplify terms and conditions; develop your risk management strategies on money laundering; evaluate the impact of social responsibility initiatives - and, working across all these areas, in how you do more to share best practice... don’t wait for a crisis to happen that shakes the very foundation of customers’ trust in your industry. Act now and demonstrate to consumers that your interest in their needs is genuine.”

Ms Harrison warned that future failures could result in stronger penalties.

Ms Harrison said: “One of the principles in the Commission’s existing statement for licensing and regulation is a preference for pursuing compliance through means that stop short of a licence review, in favour of a regulatory settlement. We propose to remove this bias in favour of settlement.

We will put access to all tools, including licence review - both of the operator and personal management licences - on an equal footing. Put simply we will use the right tool for the job.

“In addition, we will propose changes to our statement on financial penalties with the likelihood of higher penalties going forward, in particular where we see systemic and repeated failings. Our principles on penalties already reflect the need to remove profits from non-compliance, take account of costs and consumer harm, and deter poor compliance but higher penalties are likely if we do not see behaviour changing.”

Casino Regulator to Deliver Keynote Speech at MGS Entertainment Summit 2016

MACAU, SAR (November 7, 2016) -- DICJ Director Paulo Martins Chan is going to talk about the future development of Macao’s gaming industry on the first day of the three-day event to be held from November 15 to 17 at the Venetian Macao.

Director of Macao Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau, Paulo Martins Chan, will join the MGS Entertainment Summit 2016. The event, alongside the MGS Entertainment Show 2016, will take place at the Venetian Macao.

The Macao gaming regulator chief will deliver his keynote speech, titled “Future Development of Macao's Gaming Industry: Healthily and Orderly, with Integrity and Quality”, on the first day of the three-day event.

Mr. Chan indicates, in his speech, he will be sharing the Macao Special Administrative Region Government’s continuing efforts in helping with the diversification of the gaming industry in terms of policy-making, so that the SAR can gradually achieve its goal to be a “World Tourism and Leisure Centre”.

Mr. Chan adds, Macao’s gaming industry is currently undergoing an adjustment period and the SAR government is focusing more on how the industry can develop sustainably so that the local economy could remain strong and stable in times of challenges.

The Macao casino regulator chief says only by developing healthily and orderly, as well as with integrity and quality, Macao’s gaming industry could sustain in an increasingly challenging regional and international market.

Therefore, the DICJ will continue its effort in pushing forward a series of measures, in order to help the industry in enriching its offerings, as well as increasing the proportion of the revenues brought in by the non-gaming sector in the gaming operators’ overall revenues, Paulo Martins Chan adds.

Mr. Chan indicates such policies will be carried out in accordance with the SAR government’s Five-Year Plan. The SAR’s master development plan for the year 2016 to 2020 sets out comprehensive targets for the city, focusing on citizen's livelihood and Macao's diversified economy.

In addition, the DICJ will continue revising legislations and regulations, introducing new technological standards so that the gaming industry could develop in a more regulated and stable manner, adds Mr. Chan.

Exhibitors Get a Taste of the New ICC Sydney

SYDNEY, Australia (November 4, 2016) -- A group of 120 inquisitive exhibitors took over the new International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour today. Comprising both large and small exhibitors, with their exhibition contractors and their staff, along with the AGE coordinating team, it was a chance to get a firsthand glimpse of what is truly a world class venue for AGE 2017.

Divided into 5 groups of 24, with each group being led by two representatives of the ICC, the visitors were escorted into the building via the imposing main entrance stairway that leads to a very impressive exhibition foyer and registration area.




The groups then got to see the multi-purpose seminar rooms complete with smart lecterns, remote powered privacy screens and flexible seating arrangements.

They also got to see the enormous loading tunnel which will allow all four halls being used for AGE 2017, to be loaded simultaneously.

But the highlight of the visit was Hall 3 and while they saw only ½  of the massive 19,000 square metres of floor space that AGE will be occupying in 2017, one visitor was still impressed enough to describe the hall as ‘Cavernous”.

The whole group was then treated to a light lunch at L’Aqua on Cockle Bay where Ross Ferrar the CEO of the event organiser announced that “already 80% of the floor space has been sold for 2017”.
