International Game Technology PLC Announces Appointment of Heather J. McGregor to Board of Directors


LONDON, UK (March 9, 2017) -- International Game Technology PLC ("IGT") (NYSE:IGT) today announced the appointment of Heather J. McGregor as an independent director to IGT's board of directors effective March 8, 2017.

"Heather's global perspective and years of experience in talent acquisition and finance, along with her commitment to diversity and board experience, will be valuable additions to the expertise of our board," said Philip Satre, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IGT.

McGregor, 54, is a British citizen and currently resides in the U.K. She is the Executive Dean of the Edinburgh Business School, the graduate school of business of Heriot-Watt University in the U.K. McGregor is also the principal shareholder and non-executive chairman of the executive search firm Taylor Bennett.


In addition, McGregor is a director of Non-Standard Finance PLC, a company specializing in offering consumer loans in the U.K.  McGregor has a Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong in Structured Finance and is an experienced writer and broadcaster, including writing for the Financial Times for 17 years.

In her early career, McGregor worked in financial public relations and investor relations before completing an MBA at the London Business School and joining ABN Amro as a sell-side analyst, where she spent eight years working in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo.

McGregor is the founder of the Taylor Bennett Foundation, which works to promote diversity in the communications industry by equipping talented graduates from ethnic minorities with the skills and confidence to pursue successful communications careers. She is also a founding member of the steering committee of the 30% Club, which is working to raise the representation of women at senior levels within the U.K.'s publicly listed companies. In June 2015, McGregor was made a Commander of the British Empire for her services to diversity and employment. In February 2017, she was appointed by the U.K. Government to be a member of the Honours Committee for the Economy.

INTRALOT and Amelco Form Sports Betting Platform Strategic Partnership


ATHENS, Greece (March 7, 2017) -- INTRALOT and AMELCO announce the signing of a definitive agreement for a strategic partnership to develop a suite of next-generation sports betting products.

Under the partnership INTRALOT will integrate modules of AMELCO’s market-leading ATS platform to develop a new groundbreaking, omni-channel sports-betting solution. This new product will be tailored to suit the needs of regulated lotteries and pure sports betting operators globally, catering to customers’ needs across all channels.

Scientific Games Signs Exclusive James Bond Licensing Deal

Company to Leverage First-Ever James Bond Omni-Channel License: Across Gaming, Lottery and Social Channels

From “Up and Away” – to the Kansas Lottery Today!

Kansas Lottery Kicks off 30th Birthday Year at State Capitol

TOPEKA, Kansas (March 7, 2017) -- The Kansas Lottery began a year-long celebration of its 30th birthday today with a “Birthday Kick-off” event at the Kansas State Capitol. 

During a program in the First Floor Rotunda, Governor Sam Brownback signed a proclamation designating Kansas Lottery Day on November 12, 2017. 

Also at the Capitol today, the Kansas House recognized the Kansas Lottery’s impact on the state with a special resolution and the Kansas Senate followed suit with its own Kansas Lottery resolution.


It was November 12, 1987, when the Kansas Lottery sold its very first ticket.  First Kansas Lottery Director Larry Montgomery (1987-89), on hand for today’s festivities, recalled that sales of the first instant game “Up and Away” were $7 million the first week.

That $1 game was the only product the Kansas Lottery had to sell at start-up.  Thirty years later, the Kansas Lottery is still going strong and setting records.

Thanks to the hard work of our staff and the continued support of our players and retailers, we’ve had record sales for three years in a row and record transfers for two years in a row,” said current Kansas Lottery Executive Director Terry Presta. “We run the Lottery very professionally, like the business it is.

From the beginning, through June 30, 2016, the Kansas Lottery has:

  • Sold more than $5.4 billion worth of lottery products.
  • Transferred more than $1.6 billion to the State of Kansas.
  • Helped retailers earn nearly $310 million in commissions and bonuses.
  • Awarded nearly $3 billion in prizes.


The Kansas Lottery has created nearly 100 millionaires in its 30-year history, and the number grows every year! The number of players who have won $1 million or more and the games they won are: 8 – Holiday Millionaire Raffle; 23 – Super Kansas Cash; 31 – Powerball; 5 – Mega Millions; 7 – Hot Lotto; 9 – Kansas Cash; 8 – Lotto America; 1 – Club Keno Million Dollar Giveaway, and 1 – Cash Lotto.  Three players also won “$1,000 a week for life” in Cash 4 Life.


The largest win in Kansas Lottery history was one third of a record $656 million Mega Millions jackpot, which was captured by a Franklin County resident in March 2012. The largest Powerball winner in Kansas was Donald Damon of Great Bend, who won a $96.6 million jackpot in November 2009.

Countless other players have won prizes ranging from $1 up to hundreds of thousands of dollars without hitting a jackpot, plus the Lottery has given away an impressive array of vehicles of all descriptions – boats, cars, trucks, motorcycles, even an RV – plus all kinds of trips and cruises, electronics and even original art, in second-chance drawings and special promotions. 

We’re always looking for new ways to provide fun and exciting entertainment that lets our players dream about what they would do if they won,” said Presta.  “That’s the impetus behind the interactive games we’ve rolled out in recent years, the addition of draw games like Lucky for Life, and our new PlayOn® Players Loyalty program.

Presta said the Lottery is also focused on growing sales and making it easier for retailers to sell lottery products. To that end the Lottery this year has introduced legislation that would allow the Kansas Lottery to use electronic product dispensers (vending machines) to dispense Kansas Lottery products at select locations.

The Kansas Lottery currently sells $1 and $2 pull tabs, and $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20 instant scratch tickets, with its first $30 instant ticket planned for later this year. Kansas Lottery players also enjoy Powerball, Mega Millions, Hot Lotto, Lucky for Life, Super Kansas Cash, Pick 3, 2by2, Keno and Kansas Hold’Em draw games. Kansas Lottery products are sold at approximately 1,750 retailers. 

State-owned and -operated Casino Gaming

The Kansas Lottery entered a new era in 2007 with passage of the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act (KELA) authorizing the Lottery to own and operate casino gaming.  Boot Hill Casino in Dodge City was the first casino to open with state-owned and -operated gaming in December 2009. Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane started operations in December 2011, and Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway was right behind in February 2012.  Kansas Crossing Casino is scheduled to open later this month in Crawford County. 

The casinos generate revenue, not only for the State, but for the communities in which they are located.  So far, the casinos have generated more than $420 million for the State, more than $57 million for local governments and more than $38 million for the Problem Gambling and Addictions Grant Fund.


Where Does the Money Go?

Revenue from state-owned and -operated casino gaming is used for reduction of state debt and other purposes as directed by the Kansas Legislature, such as Kan-Grow Engineering Funds at state universities and the reduction of the unfunded liability of the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS).

The majority of funds from traditional Kansas Lottery sales are dedicated to economic development.  Some Lottery revenue also pays for prison construction and maintenance, juvenile detention facilities, the problem gambling grant fund and the State General Fund.  For more information, visit Where the Money Goes and Economic Development Initiatives Fund.

Lottery revenue from selling special Veterans tickets is directed to programs that benefit Kansas military veterans. Since legislation authorizing Veterans games was passed in 2003, the Lottery has transferred more than $15 million from the sale of Veterans games for designated programs. Programs currently being funded are National Guard Education Scholarships, Veterans Enhanced Service Delivery Program, and Veterans Homes and Cemeteries.

Pennsylvania Lottery Observes 45th Anniversary of First Ticket Sales

MIDDLETOWN, Pennsylvania (March 7, 2017) -- The Pennsylvania Lottery today marked the 45th anniversary of its very first game, which went on sale March 7, 1972. Since then, the Lottery has paid nearly $45 billion in prizes and generated approximately $27 billion to benefit older Pennsylvanians.

"The Pennsylvania Lottery is proud of the role it has played in helping older Pennsylvanians to lead healthier lives over the past four and a half decades," said Executive Director Drew Svitko. "Without the support of Lottery players, none of this would have been possible."

The Pennsylvania Lottery's first game was a 50-cent ticket with weekly drawings, the first of which was held on March 15, 1972. The game offered a $50,000 top prize and periodic drawings for $1 million prizes. The first $1 game, Lucky 7, went on sale in November of that year and also featured a weekly drawing.

The Lottery's first televised Millionaire Drawing was conducted in March 1975. The first scratch-off game ("Instant Lottery") was introduced two months later. Nightly televised drawing shows came along on March 1, 1977, with the debut of The Daily Number, the first of the Lottery's numbers games. Today, the game is named PICK 3.

"From humble beginnings, the Pennsylvania Lottery has grown to offer a wide variety of in-state and multi-state draw games, scratch-off instant games, and we recently introduced Fast Play games," Svitko added. "In our last fiscal year, we achieved record sales of over $4.13 billion, from which we generated more than $1.12 billion to benefit older Pennsylvanians and paid more than $2.63 billion in prizes – which were also new records."

When the Pennsylvania Lottery first launched, players had to read a newspaper to find that week's winning numbers. Today, players can immediately learn if their ticket is a winner by using the ticket checker feature on the Lottery's official mobile app. They can also scan their tickets using a scanners found at Lottery retailers, check drawing results listed at (launched in 1998) and watch the nightly televised drawing show.

Today, Pennsylvania Lottery games are sold through a state-wide network of nearly 9,200 retail locations. In addition to at-counter sales, may stores also offer touch-screen, self-service vending terminals or instant ticket vending machines. The Pennsylvania Lottery launched self-service instant game sales in 1993. In 2004, the Pennsylvania Lottery became the first state to introduce self-service units that sell both instant and terminal-based games.

"I want to thank our dedicated retailer partners for contributing, every day, to the Lottery's continuing success," Svitko said. "A number of retailers have been with us since the very first day of sales – and they've grown right along with us."


The Lottery originally was created to support property tax relief for older homeowners. Today, proceeds are directed to five main program areas: property tax and rent rebates, transportation, care services, prescription assistance, and a variety of local services provided through Area Agencies on Aging across the state. These benefit programs help to make a significant improvement in the quality of life for older adults who receive services.

"Some of the people who were among our first 18-year-old players in 1972 may now be eligible to enjoy Lottery-funded benefit programs," Svitko said. "We're proud to be a Keystone state institution that has served generations of Pennsylvanians.

NOVOMATIC Lottery Solutions Selected as Winner of Norsk Tipping eInstants and Digital Flax Game Contract

Florida Lottery Sets New Single Week Record for Scratch-Off Contributions to Education of $19 Million

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (March 6, 2016) --The Florida Lottery today announced a new single week record of $19.44 million in contributions to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) from record Scratch-Off sales.  This record $19.44 million in Scratch-Off contributions comprises more than 57% of the Lottery’s total $34 million in education contributions for the week.


Strong Scratch-Off sales like the ones the Florida Lottery demonstrated this past week are critical to our mission to maximize revenue for education,” said Secretary Tom Delacenserie. “Thanks to the revenue generated by Scratch-Off sales, the Lottery is able to provide more opportunities for Florida’s students to receive the best possible education.

Over the past 29 years, the Florida Lottery has established itself as a dependable funding source for public education. For 15 consecutive years the Lottery has transferred more than $1 billion to education, while remaining one of the most efficient lotteries in the nation. DCMS Opens Consultation on Prohibiting Third Party Betting on Non-UK EuroMillions Draws

LONDON, U.K. (March 4, 2017) – UK newspaper ‘The Sun’ reported Ministers last night announced they are closing a betting loophole that allows online gambling sites to offer cut-price bets on the Euromillions draw.

According to the newspaper laws ban betting on National Lottery games but sites such as the Chris Tarrant-fronted Lottoland get around the rules by offering UK punters £2 stakes on the Euromillions in other countries, including Spain.


The loophole takes money away from good causes that benefit from lottery money.

Lotteries minister Tracey Crouch said: “We want to act to ensure that money going to good causes is protected and that there is no confusion around the EuroMillions draw, providing the same levels of clarity as there is with the National Lottery.

Consultation description

Section 95 of the Gambling Act sets out a clear prohibition on offering bets on National Lottery draws, yet some operators currently offer bets on EuroMillions draws outside the UK. Such products are clearly at odds with the intention and spirit of the Act.

In order to preserve the clear boundary between The National Lottery and gambling that s.95 of the Gambling Act seeks to achieve, and prevent a potential negative impact on National Lottery good cause returns, we propose introducing a licence condition to prohibit operators from offering bets on EuroMillions draws outside the UK.

Maryland Casinos Generate $128.7 Million in Revenue During February

Maryland Live leads the way for the month at nearly $46.3 million

BALTIMORE, Maryland (March 6, 2017) – Maryland Lottery and Gaming today announced February 2017 revenue numbers for the state’s six casinos: Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City, Casino at Ocean Downs in Worcester County, Maryland Live Casino in Anne Arundel County, Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County, and MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County. Maryland’s casinos totaled $128,713,443 in revenue during February 2017 – an increase of $35,440,368, or 38.0%, compared to the February 2016 figure of $93,273,076.

In a year-to-year comparison not including MGM National Harbor, which opened on Dec. 8, 2016, state-wide casino revenue in February 2017 decreased by $10,328,702, or 11.1%.

Maryland Live Casino led the way in February, totalling $46,291,292 from both slot machines and table games. Maryland Live’s gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $264.21 for slot machines, $3,532.57 for banked table games and $1,076.29 for non-banked table games. February 2017 revenue at Maryland Live decreased by $7,719,352, or 14.3%, from February 2016. Maryland Live Casino operates 3,941 slot machines and 209 (157 banked and 52 non-banked) table games.

MGM National Harbor generated $45,769,070 from both slot machines and table games in February. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day in February at MGM National Harbor was: $263.27 for slot machines, $5,802.68 for banked table games and $1,483.00 for non-banked table games. MGM National Harbor operates 3,212 slot machines and 165 (126 banked and 39 non-banked) table games.

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore generated $22,031,143 from both slot machines and table games in February. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $212.56 for slot machines, $1,995.95 for banked table games and $574.04 for non-banked table games. Horseshoe Casino’s February 2017 revenue decreased by $2,981,332, or 11.9%, from February 2016. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore operates 2,186 slot machines and 179 (154 banked and 25 non-banked) table games.

Hollywood Casino Perryville generated $6,210,824 from both slot machines and table games in February. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $221.36 for slot machines, $2,510.46 for banked table games and $424.81 for non-banked table games. Hollywood Casino’s February 2017 revenue decreased by $297,693, or 4.6%, from February 2016. Hollywood Casino Perryville operates 850 slot machines and 20 (12 banked and 8 non-banked) table games.


Rocky Gap Casino Resort generated $4,364,925 from both slot machines and table games in February. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $205.73 for slot machines and $1,142.31 for banked table games. This facility does not have non-banked table games. Rocky Gap Casino Resort’s February 2017 revenue increased by $531,337, or 13.9%, from February 2016. Rocky Gap Casino Resort operates 662 slot machines and 17 table games.

Casino at Ocean Downs generated $4,046,190 from slot machines in February, and its gross gaming revenue per unit per day was $180.30. Casino at Ocean Downs’ February 2017 revenue increased by $138,339, or 3.5%, from February 2016. Casino at Ocean Downs operates 800 slot machines and does not have table games.

Under Maryland law, casino revenue supports the Maryland Education Trust Fund as well as small-, minority- and women-owned businesses, local impact grants and the state’s horse racing industry. February 2017 contributions to the state from all six Maryland casinos and fiscal year-to-date totals are documented in the attached spreadsheets and available online (click HERE).

Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Releases February 2017 Index

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (March 7, 2017) - The AGEM Index reached another record high in February, continuing the momentum from previous months. The composite index stood at 351.4 points at the close of February 2017, which represents an increase of 21.3 points, or 6.5 percent, when compared to January 2017. The AGEM Index reported a year-over-year increase for the 17th consecutive month, rising 155.4 points, or 78.4 percent, when compared to February 2016.

During the latest period, eight of the 13 global gaming equipment manufacturers reported month-to-month increases in stock price, with two up by more than 10 percent. Five manufacturers reported decreases in stock price during the month with one experiencing double-digit losses.

The broader stock markets continued to gain value in February 2017. The S&P 500 reported a month-to-month increase of 3.7 percent, rising to 2,363.64. Additionally, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 4.8 percent to 20,812.24, while the NASDAQ increased 3.8 percent during the period to 5,825.44.

Selected positive contributors to the February 2017 AGEM Index included the following:

  • Aristocrat Technologies (ALL) contributed 11.07 points due to a 9.64 percent increase in stock price to AU$16.60.
  • Scientific Games Corporation (SGMS) reported a 21.47 percent increase in stock price, rising to $20.65 and contributing 4.82 points.
  • Konami Corp (TYO: 0766) contributed 3.74 points due to a 4.87 percent increase in stock price to ¥4,740.


Selected negative contributors included the following:

  • With a stock price of $9.10 (-6.47 percent), Agilysys (AGYS) contributed negative 0.17 points.
  • Ainsworth Game Technology (AGI) contributed negative 0.12 points to the index due to a 3.31 percent decline in stock price to AU$1.75.

With the final numbers for the year tallied, it is a good time to review performances of the past year at two of the largest US domestic markets, as well as Macau China. Nevada's tourism and gaming industries showed positive trends to close out 2016. Visitation to the Las Vegas area finished the year at an all-time high of 42.9 million travelers with roughly 620,000 more people visiting Las Vegas compared to the previous year. Visitation experienced a positive boost from the convention segment, with 6.3 million trade show attendees, also a record from the 2007 high of 6.2 million. The number of conventions held in the Las Vegas area rose, as Las Vegas hosted 21,864 trade shows, a 2.6 percent increase over the previous year.

As for gaming revenue, the Nevada Gaming Control Board recently released the 2016 Gaming Abstract, which reported total revenue for casino operations in the state of Nevada at just over $25.2 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30. Of the total, gaming revenue accounted for 42.6 percent, or nearly $10.8 billion over the same period. Total revenue was up 2.6 percent from 2015 while gaming revenue increased 1.3 percent as the hospitality sector of the casino business continues to expand.

Of the statewide revenue total, $22.6 billion, or 89.5 percent, originated in the Clark County (Southern Nevada) market area. Additionally, 86.2 percent of the statewide gaming revenue was generated in Clark County, with nearly $9.3 billion in gaming spend. Revenue in Clark County rose 2.5 percent from the $22.0 billion reported in 2015, while gaming revenue grew 1.1 percent from $9.2 billion in the prior year.

Over 66.1 percent of Nevada's gaming revenue was attributed to coin-operated devices with $7.1 billion worth of coin-operated revenues in the year 2016. By comparison, pit revenue accounted for $3.2 billion on the year, or 30.2 percent of total gaming revenue. Coin-operated devices experienced reasonable growth from 2015. In the state of Nevada, coin-operated revenue grew 3 percent from the $6.9 billion reported in the prior year.

Pennsylvania gaming revenue also experienced a moderate increase from $3.17 billion in 2015 to $3.21 billion in 2016, or a 1.2 percent revenue increase. Slot machine revenue in the area remained relatively flat year to year with a small increase of 0.2 percent from $2.36 billion in 2015 to $2.37 billion in 2016.

Macau gaming revenue declined 1.9 percent year over year from $28.9 billion to $28.3 billion in 2016, though the last five months of 2016 showed positive increases in year-over-year revenues. The number of slot machines decreased in Macau from 14,578 units in 2015 to 13,826 units at the end of 2016, and slot machine revenue followed suit with a 3.1 percent decline.
