A New Era Dawns for the Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE)

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia (June 8, 2017) -- In 2017 the Australasian Gaming Expo opens at its permanent home, the new ICC Sydney in Darling Harbour.

We’re excited about the new location and by the fact that AGE is the world’s third largest gaming industry trade show. Requiring 19,000 square metres of floor space, it is one of the largest trade events in Australia and easily the largest gaming event in the Southern Hemisphere.

A finalist in last year’s EEAA Awards for Excellence, the event attracts exhibitors and visitors from around Australia and internationally.

AGE Venue

Owned and operated by the Gaming Technologies Association, AGE is the ultimate showplace for new gaming technologies for casinos, clubs and hotels. The biggest attraction is the new machines and games from poker machine suppliers, who look forward to August each year to unveil their best products.

The Association’s primary members Ainsworth, Aristocrat, Aruze, Ebet, IGT, Interblock, Konami and Scientific Games are world’s-best at their trade and AGE presents a great opportunity for their customers from around the region to experience the latest, cutting-edge gaming design and technologies. And with 15 new casinos scheduled to open in the Asia-

Pacific region in the next 5 years – now is the time for suppliers to engage their customers.

New gaming technologies are not the only attraction, with 250 exhibitors (including over 50 for the first time) proudly showcasing Audio Visual equipment, ATM Equipment, Building

Services, Cash Handling & Equipment, Consultancy Services, Entertainment, Financial

Services, Food and Beverage, Furniture, I.T., Interior Design & Fitout, Marketing Services, Membership Management, Paging & Communication, Point of Sale Systems, Retail, Security, Signage & Displays and Staff Uniforms. So there’s definitely something for everyone in the hospitality world.

There they’ll see 800 poker machines and hundreds of truckloads of signage and equipment which is moved in to the ICC Sydney Exhibition Centre, installed, connected, tested, used and compared by the most demanding critics and then moved out again – all in only a few days.

AGE Venue

Last year 2,527 visitors attended the first day, with 2,911 on the second day and 1,359 on the third day. They came from every Australian State and Territory, along with a big contingent from New Zealand and international guests from America, Europe and around the Asia-Pacific region.

92% of visitors surveyed last year saw the Expo as an opportunity to see new products and technology, while 96% said the exhibition stand quality was good or excellent and 96% said the event itself was satisfactory or excellent.

Visitors who attend the Australasian Gaming Expo are eligible to win a trip for two to the

Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas– including airfares from Sydney and 5 nights at a luxurious Vegas Resort and Casino. One trip for two will be drawn on each day of the Gaming Expo.

The AGE17 app is available for download at the Apple Store, or via the event website. The app features information including how to get to the venue, transport timetables, an interactive floor plan and a detailed exhibitor list. Visitors who have installed the app and accept messages, will receive a welcome message as they pass through the entry gate. Once they’re inside the exhibition and pass various points they will get updates about the daily Las

This year we will be running complimentary seminars for all visitors over the first two days of the Expo. A highlight is the seminar at 9am on Wednesday 16 August, when financial commentator Michael Pascoe will chair a panel of Global CEOs from the gaming industry.

When visitors register on-line to attend the event, they’re also offered the opportunity to register for any seminars they wish to attend.

For the first time the Expo will feature the “AGE Daily” newspaper, covering both event and industry news, which will be free to all registered visitors and will be available online.

All visitors will be able to take away information in “digital show bags” just by tapping their entry badge at their preferred exhibitors’ stands and they’ll receive email information.

The event website includes the interactive floor plan which is updated in real time, along with a list of exhibitors which can be sorted by company name, stand number or category – and provides contact details for each exhibitor and their website address for further information.

Winning Powerball Jackpot Ticket Worth a Revised $447.8 Million Sold in California!

SACRAMENTO, California (June 10, 2017) -- A single Powerball ticket sold in Sun City (Riverside County) has successfully matched all six numbers (20-26-32-38-58 and red Powerball number 3) in tonight’s Powerball draw! The $447.8 million jackpot (revised amount based on sales) is the 7th-largest jackpot in Powerball game history.

We will not know who California’s latest Powerball winner is until at least Monday morning at 8 a.m. That’s the soonest they’ll be able to claim their prize. Whoever the winner turns out to be will now have the option of taking the entire $447.8 million spread out over 30 years, or they can elect to take the lump sum amount of $279.1 million.

While we still don’t know who the winner is, we do know the winning ticket was purchased at Marietta Liquor & Deli, which is located at 27985 Bradley Road in Sun City (Riverside County).

This lucky retailer wins as well! It will be receiving a huge $1 million retailer bonus just for selling the winning ticket. (The retailer bonus comes from a separate fund and is not subtracted from the winner’s jackpot prize).

Tonight’s winner is strongly encouraged to sign the back of their ticket in ink, keep it in a safe place where they’ll remember and visit any of the Lottery’s nine district office locations as soon as possible. Tonight’s jackpot winner has one year from the draw date to claim their prize.

Powerball is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and most importantly, earn more money for California public schools!

Powerball is played in 44 states (plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Draw times are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:59 p.m. PDT. Ticket sales are suspended from 7:00 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. the day of the draw.

Tickets are $2 and can be purchased from any of the more than 22,000 California Lottery retailers or one of the more than 4,000 Lottery Lucky Retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s Powerball site for more information on how to play.

The California Lottery is a $6 billion enterprise based in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the State’s General Fund. Its mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. In FY 2015-16, the Lottery created 98 new millionaires. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.

logo

YPSILANTI, Michigan (June 14, 2017) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) (“Pollard Banknote”) is pleased to announce that, following a competitive procurement process, it has been awarded a contract to serve as the sole supplier of validation pull-tab tickets and related services for the Michigan Lottery. The contract will run until December 31, 2022, with the potential for three additional one-year extensions. The value of the contract term, including contract renewals, is estimated to be $5.6 million.

The contract extends the 21-year relationship between Pollard Banknote and the Michigan Lottery, which began in 1996 with an instant ticket contract. Since 2003, the company has printed nearly half a billion pull-tabs for the Lottery through its wholly owned subsidiary, American Games. Working with the Michigan Lottery, Pollard Banknote has adapted strategies from the instant games category to develop and enhance the pull-tab product line. Examples of that include introducing popular themes from the instant category (e.g., Cash for Life) and various licensed properties, as well as by evolving prize structures to offer higher top prizes. In FY2016, pull-tab tickets from the Lottery generated approximately $32 million in revenue to support education in Michigan.

We are thrilled to again be selected as the Lottery’s sole supplier of validation pull-tab tickets,” said Donna Preziotti, Director, Sales & Marketing, Pollard Banknote. “Since the inception of the Lottery’s pull-tab product line in 2003, we have worked together to enhance these tickets by incorporating many innovative features. In 2009, we successfully implemented bar coded validation, providing added security and accountability to these games. We see a lot of potential for sales increases in this category and we’re excited about pursuing this together with the Michigan Lottery.

Pollard Banknote has consistently proven to be a leader in the lottery industry with its state-of-the-art innovations and services. We are pleased that the company will continue to serve as our pull-tab ticket supplier,” said Aric Nesbitt, the Commissioner of the Michigan Lottery. “Pollard Banknote provides unparalleled industry knowledge and strategies that have improved the financial performance of our pull-tab products. We look forward to working with Pollard Banknote to develop future innovations that help support the Lottery’s mission of providing funds for public education in Michigan.

In addition to providing pull-tab tickets, Pollard Banknote has served as the Michigan Lottery’s primary supplier of instant tickets for more than two decades, providing print innovations and marketing services to the Lottery, including game designs, launch strategy recommendations, and prize structure strategies.

About the Michigan Lottery

Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery’s mission has been to maximize revenues to supplement the state’s School Aid Fund with entertaining games of chance. The Lottery has contributed more than $20.5 billion to support Michigan’s public schools, including a record $888.9 million in FY2016.

The National Statistics Office Publishes its Quarterly Report – The Gaming Sector Continues to Grow

By Malta Gaming Authority

MALTA (June 9, 2017) -- The gaming industry continued to grow sustainably during the first quarter of 2017. This was reflected in an increase in the number of remote gaming licence applications received, from 22 in Q1/2016 to 44 in Q1/2017. Furthermore, the MGA issued 26 remote gaming licences during the first quarter of 2017 compared to 14 licences issued during the corresponding period of 2016. The number of Maltese gaming licences continued to increase reaching 543 as at the end of March 2017.

Provisional estimates published by the National Statistics Office (NSO)[1] indicate that the gaming industry directly contributed 13% of the total economic gross value added (GVA) generated in the Maltese economy during the first quarter of 2017, an increase of 10% compared to the first quarter of 2016 reaching a total GVA of €277m. Employment in the gaming sector also increased by 16% during the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016 reaching a total of 5,458 employees. The latter figure does not include indirect employment in the gaming sector. It must be noted that the contributions identified by the NSO refer solely to gaming services activity and do not take into account the indirect contribution which the gaming industry is making to other sectors of the economy such as ICT and real estate as a result of its establishment in Malta.

MGA Chairman, Joseph Cuschieri said: “While the MGA acknowledges the positive results achieved during the first quarter of 2017, the Authority is committed to its continuous improvement programme to enhance its service delivery, governance and supervision of all gaming activities in and from Malta. Our priority remains to ensure fairness of games, protection of minors and vulnerable persons and the prevention of crime, fraud and money laundering. Our key focus for the coming years shall be to raise quality & standards across all gaming sectors, raise the bar in the overall governance and supervision of the gaming sector, engage and build partnerships with other jurisdictions, key stakeholders and regulators, explore new growth areas including niche gaming sectors and innovations and enhance consumer protection mechanisms and empowerment”.

Camelot UK Announces in-Depth Review of National Lottery Strategy

WATFORD, U.K. (June 13, 2017) -- Camelot UK Lotteries Limited (‘Camelot’) is carrying out a strategic review after achieving total National Lottery ticket sales for the 2016/17 financial year (1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017) of £6,925.3 million. Although the fourth-best sales performance since The National Lottery’s launch in 1994, the figure represents a fall of 8.8% when set against last year’s record sales of £7,595.2 million.

On behalf of the Board, the review is being led by Nigel Railton, CEO of Camelot Global, who took over Camelot’s UK operations following Andy Duncan’s decision in April to step down.

It is focusing on four key business areas – commercial plans to boost sales performance; investment in technology and systems; the current business structure; and long-term succession – and an update will be given when Camelot announces its half-year sales later in the year.

Camelot’s performance in 2016/17 saw players and Good Causes share over £5.4 billion – underlining how The National Lottery is continuing to transform the lives of people and communities throughout the UK.

Combined with the Lottery Duty it pays to government and the commission it pays its retail partners, Camelot returns around 95 pence of every pound in revenue back to society – one of the highest percentages of any major lottery operator in the world.

In the year to 31 March 2017, Camelot created 393 new lottery millionaires – more than one a day and a new National Lottery record, beating the previous high of 367 set in 2012/13 – and awarded £3,943.2 million in prize money to players.

The National Lottery has now awarded over £63 billion in prize money to date, creating over 4,600 millionaires in the process.

Over the same period, Camelot delivered £1,628.0 million (excluding investment returns) for Good Causes – more than £30 million every week – taking the total delivered to date to over £37 billion.

National Lottery funding has now been awarded to more than 510,000 individual projects across the UK – an average of 170 lottery grants in every neighbourhood.

However, total returns to Good Causes in 2016/17 were lower than in the previous year. This was mainly because of disappointing performance across The National Lottery’s range of draw-based games – especially on Lotto, with player confidence in the game still dented by three very long and statistically unexpected rollover series in quick succession at the beginning of 2016. EuroMillions also had a soft first six months in 2016/17 but its performance improved significantly over the second half of the year following the game changes Camelot introduced in late September.

Commenting on the review, Jo Taylor, Chairman of Camelot, said: “Achieving the fourth-highest ever sales, creating a record number of lottery millionaires and raising over £30 million every week for Good Causes is no mean feat. However, sales in 2016/17 fell well short of where we’d like them to be – and that’s largely down to a disappointing year for draw-based games and Lotto in particular. There’s clearly work to be done to re-engage players and address the performance of our draw-based games – and this is one key area that Nigel is focusing on as part of the wider review he is conducting.

“Given the current climate of economic uncertainty and increasing competition from the gambling sector, we expect 2017/18 to be equally, if not more, challenging for The National Lottery. It will therefore take time to turn things around and I anticipate a further sales decline this year. I am, however, confident that the review will enable us to put the business on the best possible footing to get back into growth – and so deliver even more for our players and the millions of people for whom National Lottery funding is so crucial over the remainder of this licence period.

NOTE: Total ticket sales and all related financial results figures for 2016/17 are subject to final audit.
