AGE 2017 Shatters Records on Its First Day

SYDNEY, Australia (August 15, 2017) -- Over 3,000 key industry executives from the Gaming and Hospitality Industry gathered for the first day of the 28th Australasian Gaming Expo at the ICC Sydney at Darling Harbour. This year’s Expo saw 26% more exhibitors than last year, while the first day’s visitor attendance represents an 22% increase over the previous year’s attendance.

What they came to see was the world’s best and latest gaming and hospitality equipment – and that’s exactly what they got.

The event owners and operators, the Gaming Technologies Association, added to the fun by offering a trip for 2 to Las Vegas for each day of the Expo which on Tuesday was won by Mr Lee Cook, Group Gaming Operations Manager, Matthews Hotels, of Kent Town, S.A.

The Association also presented a Best Stand award, which took the judges some time to decide. Based on a strict set of criteria, it was agreed that a number of exhibitors had excelled in terms of creative execution of brand identity and key messages; innovative and efficient use of space; simplicity of form and aesthetics; imaginative use of materials, colour and lighting; and most importantly, visitor engagement and interaction.

246 exhibition stands put in a huge effort to make the event a welcoming, entertaining and innovative exhibition showcase. Of these, the judges’ compliments were extended to Scent Central, Hennessy Coffee, Next ATM and Bromic. Last year’s winner Satelight, returned this year with an innovative lighting display, which also makes them worthy of a special mention. We also make a special mention of long term exhibitor Plantscaping Solutions, represented by John Dickinson.

The Best Stand award winner for 2017 is Big Screen Video, on stand 953. This exhibitor maximised their use of the ICC’s cavernous ceiling height to bring a “wow factor” to the show, with Ross Ferrar presenting the award to Big Screen Video’s, Mr Paul Ellery. Visit for more information about Big Screen Video.

The exhibition concludes this Thursday 17 August at 3pm and visitors can register at the event. For further information call the Gaming Expo Help Line on 02 9211 7430 or visit

Illinois Ticket Takes Mega Millions jackpot!

The summer is sizzling for one lucky Mega Millions player after a single ticket, sold in Illinois, matched all six numbers drawn Friday night. The winning numbers for the August 11 drawing are the white balls 23, 33, 53, 56 and 58, plus the Mega Ball 6. The ticket is worth $393 million ($247.3 million cash) – the largest jackpot in almost a year, the fifth largest prize in the game’s 15 year history and the second largest ever won with a single ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at Nick's Barbecue in Palos Heights, Ill.

Also in Friday’s drawing, three tickets matched the five white balls to win the game’s second prize. One, sold in Washington, included the optional Megaplier (a $1 extra purchase available in most states) to win $5 million after the 5x Megaplier was drawn; the others were sold in California and Ohio.

Eleven other Mega Millions jackpots have been won in the month of August, including two more of the game’s largest prizes – $336 million on August 28, 2009 (split between winners in California and New York) and $330 million on August 31, 2007 (shared among winners in Maryland, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia). One August jackpot winner never claimed his/her prize – $31 million won in New York on August 1, 2006.

This is the fourth Mega Millions jackpot won this year. It had been rolling since it was last won on April 28, when David Trapp won a $61 million prize in California. Two other jackpots have also been awarded this year – $191 million to Jack Freney, also in California, and $177 million to Texan Eliberto Cantu with a ticket he purchased in Arkansas.

In this jackpot run, more than 51.6 million prizes have been won at all levels since April 28, including 55 prizes of $1 million or more.

The jackpot resets to $15 million ($9 million cash) for the next drawing on Tuesday, August 15.

Pollard Banknote Announce 2nd Quarter Results

WINNIPEG, Canada (August 9, 2017) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) ("Pollard") today released its financial results for the three and six months ended June 30, 2017, achieving record quarterly levels of Revenue and Adjusted EBITDA.

"We are extremely pleased with our financial results for the second quarter," commented Co-Chief Executive Officer John Pollard.  "Very strong orders from our existing client portfolio generated significantly higher production volumes compared to last year, continuing the impressive levels achieved in the first quarter.  Robust sales of our specialty products contributed positively to our average sales prices and gross margin.  This highlights the importance of our ongoing innovation focus and the success of our creative process in developing unique products and services that generate market leading returns for our customers."

"Our second quarter sales were up by 44% from last year to $77.9 million and Adjusted EBITDA increased 118% to $13.1 million.  As discussed last quarter, our second quarter sales volumes were boosted by the significant amount of product in transit at the end of the first quarter.  This in transit volume had accounted for approximately 15% of our first quarter production and the incremental revenue relating to this work provided an extra boost to our revenue for the second quarter.  One needs to really look at the first half results for 2017 in total rather than the individual quarters to more clearly understand our current year's results.  Nevertheless, for the first six months our sales are up by 15% and Adjusted EBITDA by 52%.  These results clearly illustrate our ongoing success of growing our share of the instant ticket market and the impact of additional ancillary products sales in categories such as iLottery and licensed games."

"Our manufacturing operations continue to yield positive results through increased productivity and improving cost structures as we continue to more efficiently utilize our expanded capacity to produce increased volumes.  Once again our operating results generated considerable cash flow which was used to lower our net financial debt although in the quarter there was some investment in working capital to support our growth.  In the first six months of this year we have generated sufficient cash to pay down our total net debt (long-term debt plus subordinated debt less cash) by $13.1 million to $56.4 million.  We expect this positive cash generation to continue in the longer term allowing us to lower our debt leverage even further and provide funding for future investments."

"On August 3rd, 2017, we acquired 17,929,021 common shares (89.3%) of INNOVA Gaming Group Inc. in conjunction with our friendly bid to acquire the company.  The mandatory 10 day extension for the remaining shareholders to tender their shares will end August 15th.  We encourage all remaining shareholders to tender their shares in accordance with the bid instructions.  We expect to commence the normal steps to privatize the company upon completion of the extension.  The addition of INNOVA and its Diamond Game business is a very exciting new chapter for Pollard and we look forward to the combined strengths of the two companies serving the lottery and charitable gaming sectors in the future."

"The lottery market remains very healthy and we are thrilled with the traction and support we are receiving from lotteries around the world," stated Doug Pollard, Co-Chief Executive Officer.  "During this past year we have renewed a number of our important instant ticket lottery contracts and are actively pursuing additional opportunities through the RFP process.  We are very pleased to see a number of lotteries increasing Pollard's share of their instant ticket business in situations with multiple ticket suppliers and believe this is a reflection of the products, services and knowledge we're bringing to our customers.  Our vision is to be the best partner to help our customers grow their lottery sales and our results for the first six months of 2017 demonstrate that we are achieving our vision.  We look forward to continuing to expand the depth and breadth of products and services that we offer lotteries, as we help our customers continue to achieve record sales levels."

"The first half of 2017 has been very gratifying for us, as many of the investments and developments in process for some time have produced some very encouraging results," concluded John Pollard.  "Going forward our existing business is well positioned to continue to organically generate successful results and to provide a solid foundation for additional growth through acquisitions.  We are thrilled with the addition of INNOVA and their operating business Diamond Game to our family and we look forward to their future contributions."

Pollard is one of the leading providers of products and services to lottery and charitable gaming industries throughout the world.  Management believes Pollard is the largest provider of instant tickets based in Canada and the second largest producer of instant tickets in the world.

The selected financial and operating information has been derived from, and should be read in conjunction with, the condensed consolidated unaudited interim financial statements of Pollard as at and for the three and six months ended June 30, 2017.  These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the International Financial Accounting Standards ("IFRS" or "GAAP").

Kentucky Lottery Sales Remain Steady

FY18 budget calls for new sales record

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (August 11, 2017) -- Expectations for Fiscal Year 2018 – and his plans on how they would be met – were presented to the Kentucky Lottery board of directors today by President and CEO Tom Delacenserie.

The final sales number for FY17 was $1,000,501,000, which was $3.2 million (0.3%) more than the previous year. Proceeds to the Commonwealth were $247.7 million, a $5.3 million (2.1%) drop from the previous record-breaking year.  Executive Vice President & CFO Howard Kline said the reason for the decline is due to the high level of Powerball sales from the previous fiscal year. “Powerball is our most profitable product,” said Kline. “The $1.6 billion jackpot we saw in FY16 added approximately $9 million dollars in net income for that year.”

Fastrak Lottery Services

Sales for July, the first month of FY18, were $80.1 million. That’s $2.1 million (2.6%) less than budgeted, and $4.7 million (5.5%) less than last year. “July 2016 saw Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots both in excess of $450 million, which is why sales were less than the same period last year,” said Vice President and Corporate Controller Maggie Garrison. “However, the last three weeks of sales have been very solid, and having both Powerball and Mega Millions with large jackpots have helped us make up this gap. We are now performing as expected.”

For the first time in history, both Powerball and Mega Millions each head into the weekend with jackpots in excess of $350 million.

The board approved the budget for FY18, which anticipates $1,033,100,000 in sales and $252 million in proceeds to the Commonwealth.

In presenting his first budget to the board, Delacenserie outlined a number of growth opportunities he plans to target during FY18. They include:

  • Introducing “families” (like-branded groups at different price points) of scratch-off games;
  • Adding 470 new ticket vending machines;
  • Increasing product awareness at retail;
  • Developing stronger corporate partnerships with chain operations, and;
  • Tying retailer incentive to targeted sales growth.

I’ve been very impressed with the team here in Kentucky, and feel like we’ve given them the tools they need to rise to the occasion of increasing our sales and dividends back to the Commonwealth,” said Delacenserie.

LaFleur's Magazine

Gambling in India is heavily restricted and the SGBI panel of experts and speakers will evaluate both the potential and the possible impact of legalized gambling in the country. The Indian government’s willingness to consider and clarify gambling legislation provides the ideal background against which the conference speakers and delegates will discuss a wide range of topics and issues - ranging from anti money laundering strategies to the challenges and opportunities that come with eSport.

Day one of the conference proceedings will see a keynote address delivered by Tim Shepherd, founder of Silver Heritage: Show me the money: How the global gaming industry is responding to the liberalisation of gambling regulations and how can you capitalise. From here, the dialogue will move to the latest developments in Indian regulation and the onset of GST in India. The question on everybody’s mind, whether GST will be a game changer in the sports betting and gaming industry in India, will be thoroughly dissected and interrogated.

Two panel discussions will further explore the current legal scenario of gambling in India, as well as the conventional status of lotteries and more innovative measures for it to grow.

The second day keynote address will be delivered by Christina Thakor – Rankin, Principal Consultant at 1710 Gaming.  Christina will discuss key growth markets and opportunities in India, including lottery, sports betting, land based, and online gaming, and how to foster further growth. Roland Landers, CEO of All India Gaming Federation will deliver additional remarks.

Security, payments, and data protection topics are also on the conference menu, as is practical solutions to retain player confidence, preventing data leakage, match-fixing, and the inevitability of sports betting.

The final panel discussion of the conference will focus on the growth potential (and restrictions) for casinos and the scope for new players entering the Indian market.

Our events are attended by hundreds of senior delegates from the private and public sector. For more information on Eventus International, kindly visit:
