The CT Lottery Receives Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling ‘Industry Award’

The CT Lottery to Continue Dedicated Responsible Gambling Initiatives

ROCKY HILL, CT (October 25, 2017) -- At the 14th Annual Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG) Conference, the CCPG awarded the CT Lottery the ‘2017 Industry Award’ for “… exemplary effort in implementing or promoting a responsible gambling program...

In consideration, the CT Lottery highlighted its dedication to responsible gambling during Problem Gambling Awareness Month (“PGAM”, March).  Awareness for PGAM and responsible gambling (RG) was promoted every day during the month of March, in big and small ways.

One example, the CT Lottery led and coordinated efforts to get a proclamation issued by Governor Malloy in support of PGAM on behalf of all the gaming entities in the state: the CLC, the CCPG, the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Problem Gambling Services Department, the Department of Consumer Protection, SportTech (off-track betting), and the two tribal casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

Additionally, all CT Lottery employees and many retailers participated in responsible gambling training.  The CT Lottery also installed a “RG Button” on all Lottery terminals.  When pressed, the button discreetly printed out a slip providing problem gambling resources for customers.  This new tool is a great additional way retailers can help.

This is a huge accomplishment for our organization and we thank all of our staff and retailers for their dedicated work around responsible gambling not just during PGAM, but all year long,” said Chelsea Turner, CT Lottery Interim President & CEO.

In 1999, the CT Lottery, CT Council on Problem Gambling and the CT Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS) joined forces to establish the CT Partnership for Responsible Gambling.  The collective effort continues to this day.

About CT Lottery Corporation:

Lottery sales benefit Connecticut's residents in valuable ways.  In fiscal year 2017, players won more than $756.3 million in prize money and retailers earned $68 million in commissions.

At the same time, the CT Lottery provided $330 million to support the valuable services and programs funded by the state’s General Fund including public health, libraries, public safety, education and more.  Since the Lottery began in 1972, our contributions to the General Fund have exceeded $9.2 billion.

The CT Lottery reminds the public that purchasers must be 18 or older, and to please play responsibly.  If you gamble, use your GameSense.  For information about the CT Lottery, stop by any CT Lottery retailer, visit CTLOTTERY.ORG, join us on Facebook (, Instagram (, Twitter (, or call (860) 713-2700.

Scientific Games Interactive Brings Fantasy to Reality with Sword of Destiny

LAS VEGAS and CHICAGO (October 24, 2017) -- SG Interactive's Sword of Destiny™ introduces epic fantasy to the online gaming space. Bringing the magic aesthetic of the land-based original to online gaming, Sword of Destiny ushers players into a world of dynamic bonus rounds and remarkable visuals. Based on popular card games and role-playing games, Sword of Destiny is made to appeal to a fan-base familiar with epic online fantasy games.

Sword of Destiny is packed with engaging features and bonus games. The reel array varies between 5x3 and 5x5; during the base game, the reels randomly expand upwards, adding two additional rows and 25 new pay lines. This also launches one of three features: Clumped Wilds, Random Wilds, or Symbol Upgrade. Each enhances the possibility for big wins and injects the reels with eye-catching art and animation.

Tom Wood, VP and Chief Product Officer, B2B for SG Interactive said, "Sword of Destiny was unique as a land-based title for Scientific Games, and we're excited to bring it to the real money online space. This game stands out as a premiere portrait mode title that captures the aura of a high fantasy world and is unlike anything we currently have in our portfolio."

Scientific Games

Two bonus games highlight the Sword of Destiny experience and make full use of the game's portrait orientation. The Free Games Bonus, triggered by three scattered X-Zone™ symbols, applies a multiplier to each winning combination. Different multipliers can apply to new winning combinations, maximizing anticipatory gameplay.

The Temple Tower Jackpot feature ignites when three scattered bonus symbols land on reels one, three, and five. A ladder with 16 steps appears on screen, containing credit prizes and static jackpots. Players pick three stones, each of which awards between one and six steps up the ladder. When no more picks remain, the prize on the highest step the player reached is awarded. The Temple Tower offers a riveting and satisfying mechanic that expands the scope of the game world and introduces the possibility of huge wins.

Sword of Destiny brings a fully featured land-based theme to the online space with a high fantasy look and feel, amazing bonus rounds, and riveting features. The title launches with online operators in October 2017.

Mega Millions to Offer Larger Jackpots, Create More Millionaires

MIDDLETOWN, PA (October 18, 2017) -- The Mega Millions® multi-state lottery game is being updated to offer $40 million starting jackpots and faster jackpot growth.

Starting jackpots will increase from $15 million to $40 million, and jackpots will grow faster overall. There will be higher secondary prizes and better chances to win $1 million prizes. To support the new prize structure, the ticket price will change from $1 to $2 per play.

Mega Millions players are motivated by large jackpots, which is what these changes are designed to deliver,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko.

In the updated game, players will select five numbers from 1 to 70, and one Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. Players will have a 1 in 24 overall chance of winning any prize. The chances of winning the jackpot will be 1 in 302,575,350.

The game will continue to offer the $1 Megaplier® add-on, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes by a factor of 2, 3, 4, or 5. By purchasing the Megaplier option, a player could win up to $5 million for matching all five numbers drawn but not matching the Mega Ball number.

Ticket sales for the updated game will begin October 28 with the first drawing under the new rules taking place October 31. This is the first change to the Mega Millions game since the current game matrix was implemented in October 2013.

The number of advance Mega Millions draws available for purchase will continue to decrease by one, after each drawing, until the updated game goes on sale October 28. At that time, players will again be able to purchase up to 26 drawings in advance.

Since the Pennsylvania Lottery joined Mega Millions in 2010, players in this state have won two jackpots worth $86.7 million and $91 million (cash), as well as more than $186 million in other prizes through playing the game.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot on record was a $656 million prize split by three winners in Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland in 2012. Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

How to Play Mega Millions (until Oct. 27, 2017): Mega Millions tickets cost $1 per play. Players pick five numbers from 1 to 75 and one number from 1 to 15 (the Mega Ball). Players may select their own numbers using a Mega Millions play slip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. For an extra $1 per play, players can add the Megaplier®. Prior to the televised Mega Millions drawing, the Megaplier number – ranging from two to five – is randomly selected. The Megaplier applies to non-jackpot prizes. In Pennsylvania, ticket sales end at 9:59 p.m. on drawing nights, Tuesdays and Fridays.

About Us: The Pennsylvania Lottery remains the only state lottery to direct all proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. Since ticket sales began in 1972, it has contributed nearly $28 billion to fund property tax and rent rebates, transportation, care services, prescription assistance, and local services including senior centers and meals.

Players must be 18 or older. Please play responsibly. Call 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537) for help with a compulsive gambling problem.

Holiday Scratch-Off Tickets Launched in Kentucky

New themes should lead to increased sales

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (October 24, 2017) -- A new “family” of holiday-themed scratch-off tickets are now on the market in Kentucky, and early indications are the launch is successful.

The Kentucky Lottery’s 2017 holiday line-up of scratch-offs is branded across four “Holiday Gifts” tickets. The group starts at the $1 price point with “$1,500 Holiday Gifts”, moves to a $2 “$10,000 Holiday Gifts”, there’s a $5 “$30,000 Holiday Gifts”, and the line tops out with a $10 “$125,000 Holiday Gifts” ticket. All four have similar artwork and like themes.

Lottery Insights December Issue
Click here for the latest electronic version of Lottery Insights.

My experience has always been that scratch-offs make fun holiday gifts, and we’re redoubling our efforts this year to get products in the marketplace which we feel consumers will really enjoy,” said Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Tom Delacenserie. “By consolidating our four tickets under a common theme, we’ll be able to better advertise and market the line to build sales.”

In addition to the common theme, new retail infrastructure is also projected to help sales. Countertop ticket dispensers which only hold the four tickets are currently being deployed in retailers across the Commonwealth, setting off these tickets from traditional dispensers and drawing more attention to the line. Dispensers are currently being installed in approximately 500 retailers.

Early indicators point to a successful roll-out. The four tickets hit the marketplace on October 23rd, part of the lottery’s Big Money Monday launch schedule. “It was our best single-day launch since February 2016, so I’m very optimistic that our plan will pay off in significantly increased sales over last year’s holiday period,” said Delacenserie.

Sales for holiday-themed scratch-off tickets in FY16 were $11.3 million. Projections for the Kentucky Lottery’s FY17 holiday tickets are set at $20.7 million.

A dedicated television advertising campaign for the tickets is also planned. “The commercial will be filmed next week in Los Angeles, and while I can’t disclose any details on who will be starring in the spot, I can confidently say this very well may end up being the most talked-about commercial in the lottery industry this year,” said Delacenserie. The commercial is set to hit the air Thanksgiving Day and continue for four weeks.

In light of the increased emphasis on holiday-themed tickets, the lottery has also increased its emphasis on a campaign designed to warn parents against buying lottery tickets for children as gifts.
