IGT and HTC VIVE Partner to Deliver World-Class Virtual Reality Casino Entertainment

Exclusive agreement brings HTC VIVE VR content and hardware to casino floors via IGT's "Virtual Zone" Platform

SEATTLE and LONDON (March 20, 2018) -- HTC VIVE™, the leader in room-scale premium Virtual Reality ("VR"), and global gaming leader IGT today announced a partnership whereby IGT will leverage HTC VIVE Studios' world-class VR content within its "Virtual Zone" platform on casino floors. Kentucky Lottery Sales Continue Positive Trend

Early March indications show near record-breaking sales levels

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (March 23, 2018) -- Year-to-date Kentucky Lottery sales continue to surpass last year’s record-breaking level. This was announced in today’s meeting of the Kentucky Lottery Corporation’s board of directors.

Vice President and Corporate Controller Maggie Garrison reported FY18 year-to-date sales (July 2017 through February 2018) were $670.9 million. That’s $31.3 (4.9%) more than the record-setting level achieved in FY17. “This increase is due in large part to great performance from our Powerball and Mega Millions games, both of which have seen nice jackpot runs in recent months,” said Garrison. Powerball sales are up $6.9 million (13.9) from the previous year, and Mega Millions sales are up $5 million (25.4%).

President and CEO Tom Delacenserie reported the overall picture looks bright. “We ended February less than one half of one percent behind our budgeted sales figure, but March has really helped improve an already healthy bottom line,” said Delacenserie.

Both Powerball and Mega Millions saw jackpots in excess of $400 million during the month, and the launch of four new Scratch-off games led to a sales week surpassed only by the very first week of ticket sales in KY back in 1989. “We’re aligned to finish the last quarter of the year on a very strong note,” he said.

In other business, the board approved contract renewals with:

  • Garron Lottery Products for draw machine balls and machine maintenance;
  • Smartplay International for draw machine maintenance;
  • Gaming Laboratories International for lottery ball testing, random number generator evaluation and related services;
  • Goldberg Simpson, LLC and Valenti Hanley, PLLC for legal services.

 

The board also approved:

  • A contract amendment with Ellipse Solutions LLC for enterprise resource planning implementation and related services;
  • A new contract with Blue & Company for draw audit and related services;
  • A new contract with Linq3 Technologies LLC for lottery card products and related services, and;
  • Rules and regulations for 10 scratch-off tickets, artwork and prizes structures for four scratch-off tickets, and rules relating to internet purchases for 20 games.

 

The next meeting of the KLC’s board of directors will be June 22, 2018. The meeting will begin at 10:00 AM EST, and will be held at the KLC headquarters at 1011 West Main Street in Louisville. The audit committee meeting will begin at 8:00 AM EST, as well as the procurement committee at 9:00 AM EST.

Multi-State Lottery Association Concludes RNG Analysis and Issues Report

Arizona Lottery makes investigation results available to the public

PHOENIX, Arizona (March 19, 2018) – The Arizona Lottery released the report from the Multi-State Lottery Association’s (MUSL) investigation of Arizona’s Random Number Generators (RNG). This report can be found HERE.

In November 2017, the Arizona Lottery’s Executive Director instructed MUSL to investigate RNG machines in response to irregular draw results. An independent investigation was then conducted on Arizona Lottery’s draw machines that were operated by MUSL. The investigation was conducted by a third-party forensic technology firm and a statistical expert to evaluate historic draw events.

Since December 11, 2017, the Arizona Lottery has conducted its own game drawings independently from MUSL. The Lottery purchased new draw machines as part of a technology infrastructure upgrade prior to these irregular draw results occurring. These new RNGs have been certified and audited by two independent auditors and were built by Smartplay, an industry leader in RNG technology.

ZEAL Group Confirms 2017 Results Exceed Guidance Following Strong Fourth Quarter

  • EBIT of €25.2 million; above guidance range

LONDON, U.K. (March 22, 2018) -- ZEAL Group, the world’s leading lottery innovator, today announced it delivered a strong performance in 2017, with results exceeding guidance in spite of the exceptionally weak jackpot environment during the third quarter of the year.

The Group confirmed, as it published its audited results for 2017, it has delivered EBIT of €25.2 million and Total Operating Performance (TOP) of €141.2 million. Total billings for the year were maintained at €280.5 million[1].

The strong results were delivered in spite of the weak jackpot environment in the Group’s core products during the third quarter, higher hedging costs due to EuroMillions rule changes, and significant pay-outs including a single €15 million prize in the first quarter.

The Group’s fourth quarter performance was particularly strong with billings of €78.8 million; up 21% since the third quarter. This was driven by a combination of its most successful new product launch to date with the introduction of Powerball, and record billings in the Spanish Christmas Lottery, El Gordo.

In 2017, its sustained focus on customer acquisition delivered 411,000 new registered customers for the Group and its partners (2016: 314,000); an increase of 31%.

2018 Outlook

For 2018, ZEAL Group expects to deliver EBIT in the range of €33 million – €43 million, and Total Operating Performance (TOP) of €150 million – €160 million. ZEAL Group expects to pay a dividend of at least €1.00 per share in 2018, subject to financial performance.

Gambling Business Changing Its Promotions

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (March 23, 2018) -- A further gambling operator has changed the terms of its online promotions following an investigation.

BGO Entertainment Ltd has made formal commitments to change the way it offers bonus promotions to customers playing online games.

The commitment follows a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation, in collaboration with the Gambling Commission, to tackle shared concerns about unfair terms and practices within the gambling sector.

Ladbrokes, William Hill, and PT Entertainment gave similar commitments in response to the CMA’s concerns that certain terms in these promotions were likely to be unfair, in breach of consumer protection law, and could mislead their customers. On 1 February, the Commission warned operators to take immediate action to meet consumer law requirements and make changes to their promotions.

BGO has also separately agreed that it will not include terms which could be used to unfairly change promotions after players have opted in. We also expect operators to remove any similar terms they may have by 3 April 2018.

Details of the commitment are set out in the CMA release.

Gambling Commission Makes Online Gambling Safer

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (March 26, 2018) -- New plans to make gambling online in Britain safer than ever before have been announced by the Gambling Commission.

Statistics show that industry profits (1) from the sector have grown 10% to 4.7bn in the last year, and public participation has increased from 15.5% in 2014 to 18.3% in 2017. It is estimated that nine million people across Britain gamble online.

Neil McArthur, Gambling Commission Chief Executive, said: “Britain has the largest regulated online gambling market in the world and we are continually looking for ways to make it even fairer and safer for consumers.

The proposals we have announced today are intended to protect children better, reduce the risks to vulnerable consumers and build on the measures we already impose on operators to know their customers and intervene at an earlier stage before consumers experience harm.

Tracey Crouch Minister for Sport and Civil Society said: "We are committed to ensuring the gambling industry is safe and sustainable. These proposals for additional regulations will strengthen the controls already in place and further safeguard children and vulnerable people from the risks of online gambling."

Proposed changes and action include:

  • Further protecting children by banning operators from providing free-to-play demo games until a consumer’s age has been determined
  • Improving the speed and effectiveness of age verification processes
  • Ensuring operators set limits on consumers’ spending until affordability checks have been conducted
  • Tackling unacceptable marketing and advertising and unfair terms, and improving complaints and disputes procedures
  • Strengthening requirements to interact with consumers who may be experiencing, or are at risk of developing, problems with their gambling.

 

The review also identifies five areas where the Commission is undertaking further work during the coming year.

The Commission is going to:

  • Assess the effectiveness of the current tools available to consumers to manage their gambling
  • Review gambling product characteristics to identify whether particular features pose greater risk of harm than others
  • Review our requirements on the protection of customer funds and consider whether there are sufficient protections around dormant accounts
  • Consider whether gambling on credit should continue to be permitted
  • Consider whether we need to make changes to ensure that consumers can withdraw funds more easily

PA Gaming Control Board to Accept Interactive Gaming Operator Applications Starting June 4th

HARRISBURG, PA (March 27, 2018) -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today announced companies that wish to operate interactive gaming platforms can begin to submit their applications on June 4, 2018.

Potential interactive gaming operators can download the application now from the PGCB’s web site, www.gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov. The application titled “Enterprise Entity Application and Disclosure Information Form” can be found by clicking onto the “Pennsylvania’s Gaming Expansion” box on the home page and then choosing “Interactive Gaming License Applications” under the Interactive Gaming section.

The process for Interactive Gaming Operator applications will be as follows:

  1. Once an application is submitted, the applicant will receive instructions for how to be fingerprinted.
  2. After the PGCB receives the fingerprint results and all other deficiencies in the application are cured, the application will be deemed complete.
  3. The completed application for each individual and entity will undergo a background investigation.

 

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board:

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state’s casino industry, along with oversight of new gaming initiatives created through amendments to the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act recently approved by the signing of Act 42 of 2017.

The Commonwealth’s casino industry currently consists of 10 stand-alone and racetrack casinos in operation, along with the two smaller resort casinos.  These facilities collectively employ 17,000 people and annually generate approximately $1.4 billion in tax revenue from slot machine and table games play. The largest portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners.
