IGT Rhode Island Employees Raise Nearly $60,000 for United Way of Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, RI (May 8, 2018) -- IGT employees raised nearly $60,000 for United Way of Rhode Island during the Company’s two-week campaign held in April. All IGT offices in Rhode Island participated in the campaign including the Company’s operating headquarters in Providence, as well as its campus in West Greenwich, and call center in South Providence.

We all know that hard times don’t discriminate, and that everyone needs help sometimes,” said Anthony Maione, United Way of Rhode Island President and CEO.

April KY Lottery Sales Break Records

LOUISVILLE, KY (May 7, 2018) -- Sales of lottery tickets in Kentucky just posted their highest level for the month of April in 29 years.

Overall sales for April 2018 were $91.9 million, a 4.9% increase ($4.3 million) from the same month in 2017. Scratch-off tickets made up a bulk of the sales for the month, seeing $57.8 million in sales. This is a 3.4% ($1.9 million) over April 2017 sales.

Draw game sales were up 4.4% (from $24.2 million to $25.2 million), and Keno sales jumped 13.5% (from $6.9 million to $7.8 million). Instant Play games (online) rose 73% to $948,000.

Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Tom Delacenserie said numerous factors have led to the sales increase.

Our retailers have been tremendous in adopting the new programs and initiatives we’ve launched,” he said. “New planograms, early activation of new games, specific media support for those new games and general increased awareness have been key to our success.”

Delacenserie said the lottery’s board of directors is set to review a proposed five-year plan at their next meeting in June, which will provide a roadmap for, as he described it, “continued momentum”.

Looking forward, Delacenserie is optimistic about continued success. “I’m confident in our great lineup of products ready to launch in FY19. More vending machines are on the way, and continued targeted marketing for specific products and families of games will help sales grow,” he said. “Students in the Commonwealth are counting on us to continue to provide much-needed college scholarship and grant funds, and we won’t let them down.”

It’s a Record-Breaking April for Arkansas Lottery

Arkansas Lottery Providing a Jackpot for In-State Scholarships

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (May 8, 2018) -- The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is reporting its biggest-ever April for prizes, ticket sales, total revenue and retailer commissions. Total sales were $42,006,929 for April 2018 compared to $38,614,686 last April; this April’s total revenue was $42,180,970 versus last year’s $38,722,169. (See graph below for quick details.)

Year to date, the Lottery is up 13 percent, or nearly $49 million, in total sales versus the same period last year. “We’re obviously very proud of these numbers, and we’re proud to say the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has now raised more than $759 million for in-state scholarships,” Director Bishop Woosley said.

This record-breaking April follows a trend. Last month’s report recorded the highest-ever March for prizes, ticket sales, retailer commissions, and total revenue in its history.

In total, March was the second-highest sales month ever for the Lottery, including the highest Cash 4 sales month ever, and the highest Fast Play sales month ever.

La Lotería de Río Negro Does Its Bit for Health and Education in April

VIEDMA, Río Negro, Argentina May 05, 2018) -- La Lotería de Río Negro transferred 30 million pesos to the province during the month of last April, as a result of its profits, to distribute among Health, Education, Culture, Social Development, Family and Tourism.

The areas that receive the highest percentage by law are Health and Education, with 77% of the secondary distribution of funds. This meant $ 20,097,000 divided equally between the Ministries of Health and Education.

The auditor of Lottery, Luis Ayestarán, explained that "the objective of the agency is to carry out social action works. And this is achieved through the collection of the official game."

In turn, Ayestarán recalled that "the transfers made by the agency every month to the Province go to the areas of Health, Education, Social Development, Tourism, Sports and Culture.”

“This is why the Lotería de Río Negro works permanently in modernization and efficiency, as well as practices for responsible gaming.

Provincial Law K No. 48 determines in what percentages the utility is distributed among the sectors of the Provincial Executive Power.

Lotto24 Makes An Exceptionally Good Start To The Fiscal Year 2018

  • Quarterly record with just under 180 thousand new customers
  • Billings and revenue growth of 25.9% and 28.5%, respectively
  • EBIT of EUR -0.3 million due to higher marketing expenses

 

HAMBURG, Germany (May 3, 2018) -- For Lotto24 AG (Lotto24.de), Germany's leading online provider of state-licensed lotteries, the fiscal year 2018 began exceptionally well - thanks in part to a very positive jackpot trend for the European lottery EuroJackpot’ at EUR 73.3 million, billings in the first quarter of 2018 rose strongly by 25.9% year on year (prior year: EUR 58.2 million) with even faster growth of 28.5% in revenue to EUR 8.6 million (prior year: EUR 6.7 million). At 11.7%, also the gross margin was up on the previous year (prior year: 11.4%).

With 179.5 thousand new customers in the first three months of 2018 (prior year: 95.1 thousand), the total number of customers registered with Lotto24 grew by 27.3% to 1,753 thousand (prior year: 1,377 thousand) - despite consistently strong competition.

In addition to the jackpot-related increase in marketing activities, Lotto24 launched a test run of comparatively more expensive TV commercials in March. As a result, the marketing expenses in the first quarter of 2018 rose to EUR 4.6 million (prior year: EUR 2.3 million). Cost per lead (CPL) was also slightly up on the previous year at EUR 25.52 for the first quarter of 2018 (prior year: EUR 24.07).

In spite of the strong revenue trend, the increase in marketing expenses led to a slight year-on-year decline in EBIT to EUR -0.3 million (prior year: EUR -0.1 million). Due to a negative technical tax effect also net profit for the period of EUR -1.3 million was slightly lower than in the previous year (EUR -1.1 million).

For fiscal year 2018, Lotto24 AG still plans to increase its marketing investment in order to extend its position as the leading online provider of state-licensed lotteries. The company anticipates an increase in billings of 15% to 20%, with a growing number of new customers and a rise in CPL. Lotto24 also expects a slight improvement in gross margin compared to the previous year.

New Gaming Act Approved by Maltese Parliament

SMARTCITY, Malta (May 9, 2018) -- Yesterday, Maltese Parliament approved the third and final reading of the new Gaming Act, which shall elevate the jurisdictional profile of Malta from a regulatory perspective by strengthening the MGA’s supervisory role, specifically the compliance and enforcement functions to better achieve the regulatory objectives, in line with concurrent developments relating to anti-money laundering and combating the funding of terrorism.

This new framework shall also broaden the regulatory scope to increase the MGA’s oversight and to allow, in a proportionate manner, intervention where necessary. As stated previously, the new Act will also segment the role of a Key Official within a licensed entity into various key functions for direct scrutiny and targeted supervision controls, and shall strengthen the player protection framework by formalising the role of the MGA’s Player Support Unit as a mediator between aggrieved players and operators. The new Act also envisages new and more effective processes for criminal and administrative justice.

Other important areas of focus include consumer protection standards, responsible gaming measures, reporting of suspicious sports betting transactions in the fight against the manipulation of sports competitions and objective-orientated standards to encourage innovation and development.

The legislation is currently undergoing the Technical Regulation Information System process (TRIS) in line with European Union Directive 2015/1535, whereby the EU Commission and Member States may issue their opinions thereon. In the absence of issues emerging from this process, it shall come into force on 1 July 2018 for remote gaming operators and, following a transitory period, on 1 January 2019 for land-based operators.

The same considerations apply to the subsidiary legislation and Directives which are envisaged to be issued under the remit of the new Act, which are also currently undergoing the TRIS process.

In order to facilitate the transition to the new legislative framework, the MGA has embarked on a process of liaison with existing licensees, and outreach shall be increased in due course both with operators as well as with other interested stakeholders. This shall include guidelines on the application and interpretation of the new laws and policy.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy & Innovation, Hon. Silvio Schembri said; “I would like to thank the MGA for moving the regulatory agenda for gaming services forward, as well as for identifying areas for further and continuous improvement. The MGA will periodically review the regulatory performance of the sector and the framework itself and will advise Government on the attainment of its objectives mainly focusing on consumer protection and integrity.

The MGA’s Chief Executive Officer, Heathcliff Farrugia stated; “This is a very important milestone for the MGA. The new law establishes very robust compliance and enforcement powers and structures, and lays the necessary foundation to continue to strengthen player protection.”

The Remote Gambling Association Has Published Guidance to Help Licensed Gambling Operators to Comply with Their Obligations Under the General Data Protection Regulation

LONDON, U.K. (May 3, 2018) -- The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). It will come into force on 25 May 2018.

The consistent and effective implementation of the GDPR poses a number of challenges for all industries and organisations, not least because of the lack of precedent to follow; and the fact that clear regulatory guidance on every aspect of it is not yet available. The aim of this guidance is to assist the remote gambling sector through this phase. It will be reviewed and updated as and when greater clarity or better practice emerges.

In the UK, it should be read in association with information and advice provided by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) which is responsible for regulating the legislation and issuing guidance on it. In particular operators should be aware of the general guidance published by the ICO and the following information note issued by the Gambling Commission.

Clive Hawkswood, the RGA’s Chief Executive, said ‘the principles which underpin the GDPR reflect the importance of safeguarding personal data and ensuring that it is used only where it is appropriate to do so. Unfortunately, there remains a good deal of uncertainty about the GDPR’s precise interpretation and application. This guidance is designed to help our sector navigate its way through the requirements as they are presently understood. It has had input from a wide range of stakeholders and we are heavily indebted to the ICO for the constructive and supportive advice it has provided at different stages of the process.’

National Lottery Authority to Create 10,000 Jobs

GHANA (May 2, 2018) -- In a statement by the Director General of NLA Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, to congratulate workers on May Day, he said the Authority will do all within its power to help the government fight unemployment.

Tthe National Lottery Authority (NLA) has said that it will create over 100,000 jobs “within a space of time.”

According to the NLA, this will be to” reduce the unemployment situation in Ghana.”

In a statement by the Director General of NLA Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, to congratulate workers on May Day, he said the Authority will do all within its power to help the government fight unemployment.

It also disclosed that its E-kiosk project will be rolled out in 29,000 polling stations nationwide soon.

Thumbs-Up to All Ghanaian Workers as We Celebrate Happy Labour’s Day

In memory of the struggle of all workers for better working conditions, safe working environment, and decent wages, May 1 was declared an eight-hour holiday by the International Workers Congress in Paris.

In Ghana and many Countries worldwide May 1 is officially known as the International Workers Day marked to celebrate productivity, and unite workers for socio-economic advancement.

In line with the vision of NPP Government, the management of NLA  is doing everything possible through collaboration with stakeholders to create jobs and maximize revenue for socio-economic development of the Country.

Stakeholders of National Lottery Authority should expect the implementation of E-kiosk project across 29, 000 Polling stations in the Country, the operation of  NLA owned online lottery platform and other lottery products.

There were several challenges facing the Lottery industry in Ghana but the leadership of the Authority has put out the tools at our disposal and planned projects to overcome the menace of unemployment as well as correct the anomalies facing the Lottery industry.

As part of efforts to solve the unprecedented unemployment rate in Ghana, the management of NLA has come up with constructive and collaborative measures to create over 100, 000 jobs within a space of time to reduce the unemployment situation in Ghana.

We would like to entreat the stakeholders of the Authority, Management,  staff, LMCs and LMC B2B Lotto Operators, Agents and writers to continue to have absolute faith, trust,  hope and confidence in management of the Authority to perform even better than before.
