Kentucky Lottery Sales Grow As Fiscal Year Nears
End
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (June 25, 2018)
-- In Fridays meeting of the Kentucky Lottery Corporations board of
directors, it was announced that sales continue to perform ahead of
expectations in the final weeks of Fiscal Year 2018.
Year-to-date sales through the end
of May 2018 were $956.8 million, which is 4.7% ($42.7 million) ahead of the
previous FY and .9% ($8.8 million) ahead of budget. Several large Mega Millions
runs have helped that game show the highest increase of any product, up 38.4%
($10.1 million) from the previous year.

 |
Scratch-off sales continue to be the
dominant force, accounting for $560.8 million in sales for the period.
This is 1.7% ($9.3 million) more
than the same period last year, but 1.6% ($8.8 million) below budget.
According to Vice President of
Finance and Administration Rick Kelley, sales since March have been crucial in
these gains. New strategies for Scratch-off tickets, offering Keno online
via our mobile app, and solid jackpot performance in both Powerball and Mega
Millions have been the boost, he said.
The board also approved the
Lotterys budget for FY19. Executive Vice President & CFO Howard B.
Kline presented a plan that calls for an overall 9% sales increase, which would
set the sales goal at $1.13 billion. Income before transfer of dividends is
budgeted to be $269.8 million.
Its a very aggressive
budget, calling for increases such as a 10% jump in our Scratch-off
sales, said Kline. We feel a number of new sales initiatives
though will help us meet this goal.
Both this year and next,
those increased Scratch-off sales are making a big impact, said
Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Tom Delacenserie. We listened to
players and made changes in prize structures to which theyre responding.
We also changed our media approach and have new plan execution in place at
retail, all of which combine to really drive this product.
Delacenserie also said Keno is in a
growth pattern, surpassing Powerball sales in the state. People have
really embraced Keno wholeheartedly, he said.
In other business, the board
approved incentive plans for both the Scratch-off and Keno
product lines, a test pilot program
for the game Win Place and Show, game rules and regulations for eleven
Scratch-off games and three Instant Play games, and amended rules for three
draw games.
The next meeting of the KLCs
board of directors will be August 10.
The meeting will begin at 10:00 AM
EST, and will be held at the KLC headquarters at 1011 West Main Street in
Louisville. Committee meetings will begin at 8:00 AM EST.

Kentucky Lottery to Test New Lottery Game Based on Horse Racing
Results
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (June 26, 2018)
-- The Kentucky Lottery Corporations Board of Directors has approved a
trial introduction of Win Place Show, a lottery game based on the
results of live horse racing. The board has approved a pilot test beginning
March 24, 2019. The pilot will consist of the game being offered in limited
release at approximately 45 stores in the Louisville, Lexington and Northern
Kentucky regions, and is expected to span 90 days.
The development, roll-out and
operation of Win Place Show will be a result of the collaborative
efforts between the Kentucky Lottery Corporation, EquiLottery LLC, and IGT, the
Lotterys draw game system vendor. Were looking forward to
seeing how our players respond to this new game, said Kentucky Lottery
Corporation CEO Tom Delacenserie.

 |
The market research
indicates the game could be a good opportunity for the lottery to appeal to
existing players and bring in new players. To offer a game that uses a
signature Kentucky industry is an exciting opportunity.
Win Place Show is
a lottery game based on the results of an actual live horse race. Players will
buy one or more $2 quick pick Lottery tickets at participating retailers
through the same draw game system that produces games such as Powerball and
Pick 3. The ticket will feature three horses along with their numbers based on
their post position at the track, along with basic racetrack information and
post time. With the Win Place Show mobile app, players can
watch the featured races live or on replay and see if theyve won.
This is a great opportunity
for us to premiere our vision for a live sports lottery, said
EquiLottery Founder and CEO Brad Cummings. We look forward to this
chance to deliver an exciting and innovative new game to Kentuckians that our
studies say will increase scholarship funding through existing and new player
participation, and give much needed awareness to the horse racing industry in
Kentucky and beyond. We anticipate this being just the beginning for our
Louisville-based company.
Retailers participating in this
pilot will be selected by lottery staff based on store location and sales. A
complete list of participating retailers will be made available. For more
information on Win Place Show, go to equilottery.com.

Commission to address the wide range of issues identified in RGSBs
advice. Actions are needed to address:
- access and exposure to gambling by children and
young people;
- digital and online risks;
- preventative education and treatment;
- evidence collection and consumer engagement.
Tim Miller, an Executive Director at
the Gambling Commission, said: We have a strong commitment to protecting
children and young people from the harm gambling can pose its at
the heart of how we regulate. We asked our expert advisers, the Responsible
Gambling Strategy Board, to consider this critical theme. The advice helps us
to refocus and reinforce what we are doing already, and what we need to do
next. For example, this year we will be carrying out targeted compliance and
enforcement activity to identify and tackle any weaknesses in the age
verification processes.
Safeguarding children in a
digital age is complex, and what both RGSB and our research has highlighted is
that it takes a multi-faceted approach by us, government, educators, gambling
firms and parents. It will take firm ongoing commitments from the Commission as
gambling regulator, but also from all of those with a part to play.
