Largest Lotto Texas® Jackpot Up for Grabs in More Than A Decade

The estimated annuitized jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing is currently $36.75 million


AUSTIN, Texas (August 31, 2020) – The Lotto Texas® jackpot continues to swell, giving Texas Lottery® players a chance to play for the game’s largest prize in more than 10 years. With no jackpot-winning tickets sold for the Aug. 29, 2020 drawing, the game’s jackpot prize has grown to an estimated annuitized $36.75 million for the Sept. 2, 2020 drawing – the largest jackpot since May 29, 2010 drawing when the game boasted an advertised $97 million jackpot prize. Wednesday night’s jackpot currently stands as the fifth-largest lottery prize up for grabs in the world.

“Lotto Texas has been on quite a run this year and now our players will have a shot to play for the game’s largest jackpot prize in more than decade,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery Commission.

The winning ticket for the May 29, 2010 Lotto Texas drawing was sold at 7-Eleven Convenience Store #21972, located at 8902 Garland Road, in Dallas, and was claimed by The Bilmar Trust.

The last time the game had a jackpot winner of more than $30 million was for the May 16, 2018 drawing when an advertised $30.25 million prize was claimed by a Houston resident, who purchased the winning ticket at MJ’s All Season Food Store in Houston.

The largest Lotto Texas jackpot in game history was an advertised $145 million prize for the June 19, 2004 drawing, which was sold in El Paso and claimed by VOM Enterprises, Ltd. Since launching in 1992, the Lotto Texas jackpot has awarded $6.48 billion in prizes.

So far in 2020, there has only been one Lotto Texas jackpot winner, a Laredo resident that claimed a jackpot prize of $17.5 million for the drawing held on Jan. 15, 2020.

Lotto Texas is played by picking six numbers from one to 54 and offers multimillion-dollar jackpots. Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:12 p.m. CT. For $1 more per play, a player can select the Extra! add-on feature and for a chance to win up to $10,000 more on non-jackpot prizes.

Loto Mission Patrimoine 2020 draws

For the first time, the French will be able to contribute to the preservation of heritage thanks to five dedicated classic Loto draws.

FDJ offers five consecutive Loto Mission Patrimoine draws (with a minimum stake of 2.20 euros), over a period of ten days preceding the European Heritage Days 2020. A specific bulletin is dedicated to these five draws on 9, 12, 14, September 16 and 19, whose jackpots will amount to a minimum of 2 million euros. In addition, ten Loto codes will be drawn at random, allowing each to win 20,000 euros. For each grid of 2.20 euros played, 0.54 euros will be donated to the Heritage Foundation.


New advertising campaign Mission Patrimoine

For this third edition, FDJ is launching a new advertising campaign consisting of two 15-second films, designed by Rosapark and produced by Géraldine Nakache, film and advertising director.

The objective of this campaign is to highlight the two big winners of the operation: the players and the heritage. To answer this, the creative idea revolves around a celebratory dance, which makes the connection between the winning player and an old medieval armor that embodies the heritage. Nearly 47 million euros collected for the benefit of the Heritage Foundation thanks to the first two editions of the Mission Patrimoine games.

The second edition of the Mission Patrimoine offer ended in early July. Nearly 25 million euros were collected by FDJ for the benefit of the Heritage Foundation for the 2019 edition. In 2018, nearly 22 million euros had already been paid by FDJ to the Heritage Foundation. Nearly 47 million euros were therefore collected directly for the benefit of the Heritage Foundation in two years, to which is added the amount of taxes collected by the State in the form of exceptional ministerial credits in favor of heritage, as well as fundraising and sponsorship.

The total funds mobilized in 2019 thanks to the Mission Patrimoine games, exceptional ministerial credits, and collections of donations and sponsorship, amounted to nearly 47 million euros.

Among the three hundred and ninety projects selected in 2018 and 2019 by the “Mission Patrimoine en Peril”, thirty-nine sites have already been restored and one hundred and thirty-one are being restored.

Veikkaus Proposes to Bring Forward Compulsory Authentication in Gaming Arcades - Aiming to Make Online Gaming Loss Limits Cover Even Slot Machines

  • Veikkaus is proposing new measures to reinforce the safety and responsibility of Finnish gaming.
  • To achieve these objectives, either the Lottery Act or the decrees must be amended.


FINLAND (August 27, 2020) -- Veikkaus aims to bring forward the adoption of compulsory authentication in its own gaming locations – the Feel Vegas and Pelaamo arcades – by 1.5 years. According to the initial target schedule, compulsory authentication would only enter into force at the beginning of 2023.

If the decision making proceeds according to objectives, customers will not be able to play slots unauthenticated after June 2021. After the adoption of compulsory authentication, people will also have the chance to set a complete ban on their gaming, if they feel that gaming causes them trouble,” says Veikkaus’ SVP, Channels and Sales Jari Heino.

On decentralized slot machines, for example in stores, service stations, and restaurants, compulsory authentication will be adopted as decided before, as early as January 2021.


We want to build a gaming environment where even people having trouble with controlling their gaming are looked after. We are constantly designing new solutions to facilitate gaming control. Compulsory authentication will offer us many new opportunities in this respect, and we will continue working on the implementation of these opportunities and developing them further,” says Mr Heino.

Veikkaus also hopes to make the maximum loss limit currently in use in the online games of high event frequency (online instants, slots, eBingo and the table games, excluding poker) cover the slot machines in the retail network as such.

According to our plan, this would be done by the end of June 2021, when the slot machines are already covered by compulsory authentication. As regards Casino Helsinki, we are planning to leave the slot machines in the casino out of the scope of the general loss limit,” says Mr Heino.

The loss limit applied to the online games of high event frequency has been set to a thousand euros a day and two thousand euros a month in the Lotteries Act. Due to the coronavirus, the limit has been lowered to 500 euros a day by a decree of the Ministry of the Interior for a fixed period until the end of September 2020.

According to SVP, Channels and Sales Mr Heino, the planned measures would have a major impact on gaming responsibility.

For example, the reforms will enable us to prevent money laundering and underage gaming even better than before. We have raised our reference age limit from 23 to 30. That means that everyone looking under 30 will be asked to show their ID at all of Veikkaus’ arcades.”

Our partners in, for example, stores, kiosks, restaurants, and service stations will be required to verify the customers’ age in the same way, starting from the beginning of October.”

West Virginia Lottery Earns Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for 23rd Straight Year


CHICAGO, Illinois (August 31, 2020) – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the West Virginia Lottery for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019.  This is the 23rd year in a row that the West Virginia Lottery has received the award.


“I want to thank all of our employees who work hard every day to make sure our Lottery operates with the highest level of integrity,” West Virginia Lottery Director John Myers said. “Earning this distinction for 23 straight years is a testament to the West Virginia Lottery’s long-standing commitment to transparency and the public trust.”

The Lottery’s CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The non-profit GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.

The West Virginia Lottery operates as a business enterprise within the framework of State laws, rules and regulations. Its mission is to generate revenue to fund programs benefiting education, senior citizens, tourism and other programs the West Virginia Legislature may determine.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director Gordon Medenica to Receive Top Industry Honor

Medenica to be inducted into the Lottery Industry Hall of Fame

BALTIMORE, Maryland (September 1, 2020) – The Lottery Industry Hall of Fame will induct industry veteran Gordon Medenica, recognizing him for his many years of successful leadership. The Hall of Fame honors individuals who are dedicated to promoting excellence and integrity in the lottery industry. The announcement was made yesterday from the Public Gaming Research Institute (PGRI), which works with public policy makers around the world to support government-sponsored gaming industries. Medenica is one of six inductees who will be honored in a virtual ceremony at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on October 4.

“I’m truly humbled to be among this distinguished group,” Medenica said. “The lottery industry is filled with exceptional people who are dedicated to the success of this business, so being in the Hall of Fame is quite an honor – one that I’m proud to share with the many others who make dreams possible every day.”

Medenica’s breadth of lottery-industry experience includes management of lotteries in New York, New Jersey and Maryland. He began his career in 2007 as the Director of the New York Lottery, the country’s largest.  During his time in New York, the lottery set all-time revenue records every year.


Importantly, Medenica authorized the initiative that prompted the U.S. Department of Justice to rescind its interpretation of the 1961 Wire Act, an action that led to the legalization of online lotteries in 2011. Medenica and his team also created the New York Lottery Black instant ticket, which became the all-time best-selling ticket at its price point. During his tenure, the lottery also won multiple industry advertising awards, culminating in the World Lottery Association (WLA) Best of the Best award in 2012. In addition to the lottery, Medenica also oversaw New York’s nine casinos and managed the successful selection process for the operator at New York City’s Aqueduct racetrack, which has become one of the world’s largest casinos.

Following his time in New York, Medenica was the transitional CEO of the Northstar New Jersey Lottery Group, which won the contract to manage sales, marketing and related functions for the New Jersey Lottery.  He remains the only director to have managed lotteries from both the public and private sides.  He also worked with the lottery directors in New Jersey and New York to create and launch the Cash4Life multistate game.

Medenica joined the Maryland Lottery as director in June 2015, where he has consistently set revenue and profit records, focusing his team on instant ticket sales. He also oversees Maryland’s six casinos, including the 2016 opening of the state’s largest, MGM National Harbor.

His work in the lottery industry includes serving as President of the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) in 2012.  He currently serves on the NASPL Executive Committee as Region 1 Director, and is also Lead Director of the Mega Millions consortium and Lead Director of the Cash4Life consortium.  Internationally, Medenica serves on the WLA’s Sports Betting Integrity Committee.

Before coming to the lottery industry, Medenica was a longtime executive and member of the Management Committee of The New York Times Company.  More recently, he was the Executive Vice President of Philadelphia Media Holdings, LLC, an owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News. Prior to that, Medenica served as an advisor to the Blackstone Group on newspaper acquisitions, and as the President and CEO of DornaUSA, a sports marketing company. Earlier in his career, Medenica was a Senior Analyst at the Marriott Corporation.

Medenica earned his A.B. from Harvard College, where he majored in government, and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

New Jersey Lottery Kicks Off Annual Campaign to Prevent Underage Lottery Play

“Not 18 Yet? No Bet” Awareness Campaign Underway

TRENTON, NJ (Sept. 1, 2020) – Today, the New Jersey Lottery and the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) kicked off the Lottery’s annual “Not 18 Yet? No Bet” Awareness Campaign at the Acme Market on Route 33 in Hamilton Square, a Lottery retailer. This campaign reminds residents and retailers that New Jersey law prohibits the sale of lottery tickets to or by anyone under the age of 18. Jerry Guarino, deputy executive director of the New Jersey Lottery, and Neva Pryor, executive director of CCGNJ, renewed their organizations’ commitment to responsible play and the prevention of underage gambling.

“The Lottery has a longstanding commitment to promoting responsible play and discouraging underage gambling of any kind,” Guarino said. “We have an active partnership with the Council and support their efforts to prevent underage gambling.”

The Lottery has had a representative on the CCGNJ’s Board of Directors since June 1999. The Council’s problem gambling helpline number (1-800-GAMBLER®) is printed on every Lottery ticket, brochure and sign. Finally, the Lottery’s website directs visitors to the Council’s site (, which provides the public with free information and help for anyone who may have or need advice about a gambling problem.

For distribution to students who attend the Council’s school lecture series, the Lottery provided the CCGNJ with additional “Not 18 Yet? No Bet” brochures, along with supplies of pens and pencils imprinted with the message “You Must Be 18 or Older to Play the NJ Lottery.”

Connecticut Lottery Corporation Returns $348 Million to Connecticut General Fund in Fiscal Year 2020

Keno Sales Continue to Grow, Up More than 12% Over Fiscal Year 2019

ROCKY HILL, CT (August 27, 2020) – The Connecticut Lottery Corporation returned $348 million to the Connecticut General Fund in the 2020 fiscal year (July 2019 - June 2020). In addition, Lottery sales kept pace with the previous year, with $1.3 billion in total sales, compared to $1.33 billion in FY2019. These strong sales and general fund transfers represent the second-best results ever in the Lottery’s history, despite the state experiencing the effects of a pandemic.

The CT Lottery’s results were led by growth in instant ticket sales of $20 million and growth in Keno sales of $12 million.  The daily numbers games – Play3 and Play4 – also grew by $10 million. Since its inception, through the end of FY20, the CT Lottery has contributed $10.3 billion – more than $1 billion over the last three years alone – to the state of Connecticut’s general fund to help finance various state services.

Betting on Sports America

Consistent with its dedication to promoting responsible gambling, the CT Lottery continued its support of $2.3 million to the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The CT Lottery also sponsored various responsible gambling efforts throughout the year, including during the holidays.

On the heels of a healthy FY20, the CT Lottery debuted a new category of games, Fast Play, on July 20, 2020. In Its first month, the game has already generated more than $6 million in sales towards FY21 following the launch of the first family of Fast Play games, Jumbo Bucks.

We’re pleased with the continued strength and consistent contributions the CT Lottery has made to the state, particularly during a time in which Connecticut needs funding more than ever,” said Greg Smith, president and CEO of the CT Lottery. “The CT Lottery works hard to contribute over 60% of the states’ gaming proceeds, and we continue to look at new opportunities for increasing those funds. TOOWONG, Qld. (August 26, 2020) -- Leading internet lottery business, Jumbo Interactive (ASX: JIN), today released full year results that are highlighted by growth during a period of lower jackpot activity cycling from very strong results in FY2019.

Underlying earnings is derived by adjusting the statutory earnings for significant non-operating items as follows:

  • $0.4 mil Gatherwell acquisition costs
  • $0.2 mil revaluation of fair value of the deferred contingent compensation liability for the Gatherwell acquisition


The balance sheet remains healthy with Net Assets of $79 million and the Company’s cash position at $72 million as at 30 June 2020 ($61 million general cash plus $11 million players’ funds). A 17.0c final dividend was declared adding to the first half dividend of 18.5c. The Directors continue to review capital management options in respect of the general cash surplus.

Since the 30 June 2020 financial year end, $15 million has been paid to Tabcorp (ASX: TAH) out of general cash funds in respect of the extension fee under the recently signed 10 year Reseller Agreements.
