Louisiana Lottery Official Mobile App Launches with Free Download

BATON ROUGE, LA (July 13, 2020) -- The Louisiana Lottery just launched a new mobile application in the App Store and Google Play with the promise that users will have the power to play their way. The Louisiana Lottery Official Mobile App’s most sought-after feature is the ability for players to check their own tickets on their mobile device. The app also allows players to create digital playslips using fun, new number-selection methods and save the playslips for ticket purchase at retail.

“With players’ ability to check their own tickets, the app promotes communication, trust and convenience. Our players have been asking for this type of feature, and we know it will be extremely popular,” explained Louisiana Lottery President Rose Hudson. “Finally, we believe the app can open up new sales opportunities by appealing to digitally-minded consumers and making ticket purchases more streamlined.”

Pollard

To check any Louisiana Lottery ticket using the app, players scan the bar code on the front of the ticket with their device’s camera. The app will let them know the status of their ticket, including whether it is a winner and the amount of the win. The results are stored in the app as a reminder for the player to cash any winnings; however, the valid, original printed Lottery ticket is still required to claim a prize.

To purchase a draw-style game ticket using the app, players must first create their playslip on the app and present the resulting code to be scanned at retail. This feature allows the customer to decide on their numbers, the number of drawings and other game options before reaching checkout. The cost of the wager is also clearly communicated on the app in advance.

“Even though Lottery drawings generate winning numbers at random, our players enjoy choosing numbers they believe are ‘hot’ or ‘due’. One particularly cool feature on the app allows you to choose each of your numbers based on how frequently or infrequently they have been drawn in the last year,” Hudson added.

At this time, tickets for Lottery games cannot be purchased on the app, as the state has a law prohibiting the online purchase of Lottery tickets, but if that should change Hudson believes the app would be a great way to deliver an online purchase experience.

The Louisiana Lottery Official Mobile App is available for free download in the App Store for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android devices. More information about the app’s features, an instructional user video, frequently asked questions about the app, and direct links to download can all be found on the Lottery’s website: www.louisianalottery.com/mobile-app

“Our new mobile app is one more way the Lottery is meeting its mission to maximize revenue for K-12 public education while also promoting the high standards of integrity and public trust,” said Hudson.

The Lottery reminds ticket purchasers to play responsibly, encouraging anyone who has a gambling problem, or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem, to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867 for help.  Ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age.

CHICAGO, Illinois (July 14, 2020) – The Illinois Lottery is announcing its newest instant ticket, Booming Bucks, which will raise funds for science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) programs in Illinois public schools.

All proceeds from the Booming Bucks instant ticket will support the School STEAM Grant Program, which the Illinois State Board of Education will create and run. This grant program will support STEAM programming for K-12 students in Illinois, specifically in lower income neighborhoods. The grant program will give priority to programs that provide hands-on experience and that focus on encouraging female students to enter STEAM fields.

STEAM programs are designed to build a culture of learning and functional literacy while sharpening students’ individual intellect and critical thinking skills.

GLI 300x250

The Illinois Lottery is proud to support the learning and development of K-12 students across the state of Illinois with our new specialty ticket. The STEAM programs funded by Booming Bucks will inspire creativity, collaboration, and innovation to foster a brighter future for our students and our state,” said Illinois Lottery Director Harold Mays.

The Illinois Lottery is the first lottery in the country to have an Instant Ticket that specifically supports STEAM programming. Booming Bucks was made possible through generous support from the Illinois General Assembly and the sponsor of Public Act 101-0561, Illinois State Senator Iris Y. Martinez.

We are grateful to the General Assembly for creating this opportunity to fund STEAM programs in Illinois schools,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Carmen I. Ayala. “To get more women and people of color into science and engineering, we have to start young. This special lottery ticket will support inclusive, exciting, and hands-on learning for students to jumpstart their exposure to STEAM careers.”

By creating an additional source, through the Illinois Lottery, to provide more funds for STEAM programs in underserved school districts, residents have a new opportunity to support our students,” said Illinois State Senator Iris Y. Martinez. “I commend this initiative and encourage all who can to test their luck on this new ticket, directly benefiting students in communities of color.”

The Booming Bucks ticket costs $2 and gives players the chance to win up to $20,000. The ticket is on sale now at Illinois Lottery retail locations.

This specialty ticket is one of nine in the Illinois Lottery’s portfolio of instant tickets that support special causes. Since 2006, the Illinois Lottery has directed more than $50 million in funding toward special causes in Illinois through specialty ticket sales.

Georgia Lottery Raises a Record $1.23B for HOPE and Pre-K

ATLANTA, Georgia (July 14, 2020) – The Georgia Lottery Corp. today announced that fiscal year 2020 profits transferred to the State Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account amount to a record $1,237,345,246. This brings the total raised for education in the Georgia Lottery’s 27-year history to more than $22.3 billion.

With all Lottery profits benefiting Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs, the Georgia Lottery’s monumental success is a milestone to celebrate,” Gov. Brian Kemp said. “By funding HOPE and Pre-K, the Georgia Lottery continues to help Georgia’s students gain a high-quality education from start to finish, which ultimately makes our state stronger and more competitive.”

FY20 marks the fifth consecutive year the Georgia Lottery has surpassed $1 billion in profits for education and the ninth consecutive year of growth in profits for education.

Our FY20 results are a reflection of the fortitude and commitment of many,” Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin said.

Smartplay

As with all companies, 2020 has been an historic year, challenging us to the max, which makes me even more honored to report this record year of returns for education. Our team has been laser focused on delivering the greatest amount possible to the state in a year where we first focused on outpacing 2019, the year of one of the largest jackpots in history, and then added COVID-19 challenges to our goal to surmount.”

After a dip in March, Georgia Lottery sales rebounded in the last quarter of FY20 as players became more familiar with online play availability, many retailers remained open because of other services they provide, and most other forms of entertainment were limited.

Our success in FY20 was a collaborative effort,” Corbin said. “I am grateful to Gov. Kemp and the legislature for their support, our board of directors for their strong leadership, our employees for their hard work and unwavering commitment, our vendors and partners for their exceptional efforts, our retailers for their tremendous diligence on the frontlines with customers every day, and our players who have supported us responsibly at retail and online.”

The Georgia Lottery achieved historic profits in FY20 while competing against a record $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot in the previous fiscal year.

During the last months of the fiscal year, the Georgia Lottery adapted to a quickly changing environment, partnering with retailers to promote safe interactions with players and encouraging online play via the Georgia Lottery’s website and mobile app.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $22.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.9 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.6 million 4-year-olds have attended the state-wide, voluntary prekindergarten program.

This surpasses last year’s transfer by $5.2 million and brings the Lottery’s cumulative contribution to education to more than $6 BILLION since the games began in 2002.

I am incredibly pleased that the Lottery is making a significant contribution to education for the upcoming year.” said the Lottery’s Executive Director Hogan Brown.

Faced with the global pandemic, the Lottery reduced its advertising, focused on beneficiary and play responsibly messaging, and cut costs wherever possible. On behalf of students throughout South Carolina, I thank our hardworking retailers and loyal players.”

Chairman of the SC Lottery Commission Sam Litchfield adds, “On behalf of the Board, we are proud of what the Lottery was able to accomplish for our great state this year, and we take great pride knowing these efforts will go towards improving education in South Carolina.”

Growing interest in instant “scratch-off” tickets and “local” draw games like Pick 3, Pick 4, and Palmetto Cash 5, contributed to increased funds earned for education.

Lottery proceeds are deposited into the Education Lottery Account, from which the General Assembly makes appropriations in support of higher education scholarships and grants, K-12 public education programs and community education programs throughout the state.

Veikkaus Tightens Restrictions on Age Limit Control

HELSINKI, Finland (July 10, 2020) -- In the spring of 2020, the National Board of Police has carried out age limit control at Veikkaus' playgrounds and the network of agents. The results leave Veikkaus with considerable room for improvement.

The test visits were all of adults, albeit looking young. There is an age limit of 18 years for all Veikkaus games.

In a study by the Police Board, the age of test buyers was asked to prove at agency points from 16 per cent and at Veikkaus' own playgrounds, Feel Vegas and Gaming Centers, at 40 per cent.

Pona's results show that we have failed in our age limit control. We should have been able to achieve a much better result in this matter,” says Jarmo Kumpulainen , Veikkaus' Director of Responsibility .

Our games only belong to adults. Our activities in age limit control have not been sufficient so far. We have now taken immediate action to remedy this.”

Veikkaus has intensified age limit control in mid-June. Intervention and sanctions for non-compliance have been tightened. In the future, verified underage gaming will automatically result in the closure of slot machines for five days and a one-month follow-up period. Slot machines will be removed if underage gambling is still detected during the follow-up period.

In June 2020, Veikkaus has raised the protection age limit for players in its own playgrounds to 30 years. In the network of agents, the protection age is still 23 years, but the goal is to raise it to 30 years there as well.

Veikkaus will immediately start negotiations on the change with key industry organizations and partners with the aim of introducing a new protection age limit in the network of agents during the second half of the year,” Kumpulainen says.

Point-of-sale staff will be instructed and trained in new practices. New verified findings will result in sanctions. Age limit control is also supported by developing the skills of game sellers through courses and training.”

Veikkaus reports the results of age limit control publicly on its website. Mandatory identification with decentralized vending machines will take effect in January 2021, making it significantly more difficult for minors to play. Work related to age limit control will continue even after mandatory identification with decentralized vending machines. The increase in the protection age limit implemented in Veikkaus' own playgrounds will enhance the age limit control of own playgrounds.

Veikkaus also proposes that a body be appointed for consideration in connection with the revised Lotteries Act, which would in future monitor the implementation of age limit control. One option should be to look at implementing it as a public authority with authority powers, such as for alcohol products. In this option, Veikkaus would focus on communicating the age limit of gambling and enabling self-regulation to function as efficiently as possible.
