By awarding this contract, the Ohio Lottery Commission is the first Lottery to deploy the Select 4™ instant ticket self-service lottery vending machines, only very recently made available by Schafer Systems.

Schafer Systems’ Select 4™ instant ticket dispenser takes the best features of an Instant Ticket Vending Machine (ITVM) and reduces its size, creating a product that facilitates sales of the Lottery’s instant tickets in multi-lane retail environments, as well as in non-traditional retailers, such as bars, restaurants, and other similar retailers that have not typically offered instant tickets.

The compact unit offers the familiarity of an ITVM with a fun, digital interface designed to grab players’ attention. A digital touchscreen is positioned within the top of the unit, offering eye-catching ticket graphics and user-friendly screen prompts to guide self-serve purchases.

The unit, built to sit comfortably on a bar top, shelf, or optional stand or similar surface, holds four bins supporting 4” wide and between 2” to 12” long tickets, or a combination thereof, with each bin holding up to 300 fan-folded tickets. The exterior of the unit can be branded with the Lottery’s logo and colors or customized to incorporate any other design the Lottery envisions.

Codere Redoubles Its Commitment to Responsibility

SPAIN (November 18, 2020) -- Codere, a leading multinational company in the private gaming sector, has updated its Corporate Social Responsibility and Responsible Gaming Plan, with the aim of collecting and unifying actions in the different markets and promoting them through a strategic project, with which it aspires to improve its response to the main expectations and social concerns regarding the industry.

To this end, the company has carried out a meticulous listening and analysis exercise of the perspectives and demands of its different interest groups, to prioritize them and define positions and guidelines for action, in its desire to give an optimal response to the market and minimize any adverse effect that its activity may have on society.

“Codere continues to evolve in dialogue with the market, responding to its demands based on its pillars of integrity and transparency. Our goal as a company is to create value, sustainable and responsible.

To do this, we must connect with the expectations of our audiences, and include their interest in the best possible way in our processes. With this CSR Plan, we are taking a further step in our responsible management with the aim of mitigating the main social concerns regarding the industry and being leaders in promoting responsible gaming”, says the CEO of Grupo Codere, Vicente Di Loreto.

Top Global Concerns Regarding the Gaming Industry

In order to detect the concerns regarding the gaming industry of its main stakeholders, and give them a global response, the company set up an Institutional Relations Committee headed by the CEO of Grupo Codere, and made up of the first level of management.

This committee, which will now be in charge of the implementation and monitoring of the plan, has carried out an exhaustive analysis over the last year, detecting the following issues as priorities and establishing its position and action plan:

  • Advertising regulation: a deficient regulation of commercial gambling communications can lead to overexposure that undermines the optimal protection of vulnerable groups - especially minors. The company defends reasonable limitations to the advertising of gambling based on objective criteria, whatever the nature of the operator (public or private).
  • Planning of gambling venues: Codere defends a regulation that sorts out the installation of venues, their size and the types of games that can be offered –with the aim of rationally reducing the incidence of problematic gambling–, respecting the investments and operations already established.
  • Control of access to the game: Codere is radical regarding the zero access of minors and self-prohibited, either through the face-to-face channel or online. To this end, in addition to an exhaustive compliance with current regulations, the company maintains a close collaboration with public and private organizations to promote regulations that allow the compliance with this objective.
  • Management of vulnerable groups: the company undertakes to permanently analyze and implement responsible gambling measures, in order to guarantee the best protection for minors and users with problematic behavior.
  • The company's responsible gaming program is structured based on the pillars of prevention, awareness, detection and management of risky behavior.
  • Image of the sector: misinformation about gambling activity encourages the spread of prejudices and beliefs not supported by data, which deteriorate the public image of the sector. Codere understands that it must give light to the sector and help to dignify it, by promoting and disseminating objective studies on the industry that reflect a faithful image of it.

“Our sector makes an important social contribution in terms of job creation and tax contributions to the public coffers. The data on the incidence of risky behaviors show that there is not a generalized social problem in relation to the activity; while the figures on demand reflect that there has been no growth in recent years.

Betting on Sports America

But, rather a transformation of consumer preferences in some markets, as may be the case in recent years of a greater preference for sports betting or gambling online”, explains Bernardo Chena, regional manager of Codere Latam (excl. Mexico).

Alejandro Pascual, regional manager of Codere Europe, adds that, “despite the contribution of this sector, its overexposure due to both, an increased advertising activity and the public discourse, have contributed to generating a negative social perception, without a scientific base, that we must mitigate from the industry, continuing our work in the implementation of best responsible gaming practices and giving visibility to what we do and what we are; a highly regulated, responsible industry that attends to the entertainment needs of its customers.”

Responsibility from within

The responsibility of the company is not limited to the external sphere but, extends to all sectors and groups involved. For this reason, in this CSR Plan, the concerns of the workers have also been prioritized, with the design of an internal action program based on the values of the organization, which will encompass all Codere members.

On the other hand, the group's collaborators will receive, as part of this Plan, a complete training program in responsible gaming, so that each one can contribute in the best way, from their responsibility, to the global objective of leading responsibility in the gaming industry.

Since the Lottery’s inception, Florida’s public schools have received more than $20.3 billion, while colleges and universities have received a combined total of more than $9.9 billion.

Additionally, more than $6.8 billion has been used to fund the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which has enabled over 880,000 students to attend college since 1997.

We are thrilled to announce this latest milestone in the Lottery’s mission to enhance education in Florida,” said Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation Becomes GLMS' First Regulating Member

LAUSANNE / TENNESSEE (November 12, 2020) -- The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) is pleased to announce that the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation (TEL) has become the latest member of the international association dedicated to protecting the integrity of sports wagering worldwide.

TEL becomes GLMS’ first regulating member, under the revised Statutes of the association, and its first US member. GLMS President, Ludovico Calvi states: “We are honoured to welcome the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation as our first US member, paving the way for more US Lotteries joining GLMS for their sport integrity services.

We value the admirable effort done by TEL to create a sustainable betting regulatory framework, establishing competitive market conditions while protecting the interests of Tennesseans.

TEL Corporation brings a unique US footprint into the GLMS community of members and its membership shows a clear commitment to promote transparent and socially responsible betting operations, in line with the highest standards of sport betting integrity.

We look forward to working closely with the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation with the objective of protecting our core values and acting as a shield against global sport corruption.”

The GLMS Statutes were revised in September 2020 following a written General Assembly of its members, during which the membership took into consideration the changing nature of sports betting and integrity worldwide.

Following the PASPA repeal in May 2018 and the legalisation of sports betting in many US States, certain US Lotteries act as regulators, defining the circumstances under which sports betting operators will be allowed to operate sports betting in their state.

Tennessee is evidence of the growing sports betting market in the USA, with the unique twist of the TEL acting as a regulator, not an operator, offering sports betting licences since mid 2020. The TEL, as a semi-governmental organization, has raised more than $5.6 billion for education in Tennessee since 2004.

“The Tennessee Education Lottery is proud to become a member of GLMS in our oversight role for the licensing and regulation of online sports wagering in Tennessee,” TEL President and CEO Rebecca Paul Hargrove said.

“Integrity is at the heart of everything we do as we establish and support a responsible and competitive sports wagering program. GLMS’s position in the global marketplace will be a critical asset to the TEL’s work to protect the customer, promote fairness in sports and regulate this new industry in our state.”

The insight and intelligence TEL will bring to GLMS’ international membership will benefit jurisdictions around the world and add tremendous value to safeguarding a culture of integrity in an increasingly global sports wagering marketplace.

West Virginia Lottery Director Appointed Chairman of Lotto America Product Group

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (November 12, 2020) -- West Virginia Lottery Director John Myers has been named chairman of the Lotto America Product Group, the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) announced recently.

MUSL is a non-profit association that assists its member lotteries in multi-jurisdictional game development. There are currently 38 member lotteries in the organization.

Myers previously served as Vice Chair of the group, and will serve a one-year term as chairman after earning the appointment via nomination from the preceding chair, Rollo Redburn of the Oklahoma Lottery (recently retired). The 13 lottery directors that serve on the Lotto America Product Group then approved the nomination.

“The Lotto America Product Group is a brain trust of the 13 U.S. lotteries that sell the game,” MUSL Executive Director J. Bret Toyne said. “We are excited to have Mr. Myers at the helm as the group looks for innovative ways to promote the product and assist participating lotteries in raising money for good causes and beneficiaries.”

One of the biggest challenges facing multi-jurisdictional draw games is relevancy, and with Myers at the helm, the Lotto America Product Group will be looking for ideas and opportunities to promote the game and build brand awareness. The group will also look for ways to get players excited about the game despite a lower jackpot.

Lotto America launched in November 2017, shortly after Mega Millions raised in price point to $2 per play. Lotto America is one of the few multi-jurisdictional draw games with a rolling jackpot that is just $1 per play- a unique price point for a lottery’s draw game portfolio.

Lotto America is available to play in 13 states, including West Virginia. To play, simply select five numbers ranging from 1-52 on the red balls, and one number ranging from 1-10 for the Lotto America Star Ball ®.

There are nine ways to win a prize in Lotto America, and the Grand Prize is won by matching the first five numbers in any order and matching the star ball. Tickets can be purchased at any West Virginia Lottery retailer.

As part of the agreement, Norsk Tipping can choose to keep games in operation for up to an additional four years after the agreement has expired.

Norsk Tipping has been a valued IGT customer since 2012, when IGT was selected as the sole supplier for the launch of legal digital gaming in Norway. In 2017, IGT was again awarded a competitive tender to provide Norsk Tipping with IGT proprietary PlayCasino content, as well as licensed content from third-party sub-suppliers, and its PlayRGS digital gaming platform and IGT Connect integration layer. IGT has also supplied Norsk Tipping with its digital bingo platform since 2014, which was re-awarded to IGT in a public tender in 2018.

IGT PlayDigital's PlayRGS solution powers sites for more than 100 customers around the globe for both lottery and commercial operators. In addition to Norsk Tipping, IGT supplies its PlayRGS solution to World Lottery Association (WLA) customers in Europe including Veikkaus in Finland, Svenska Spel in Sweden, Loterie Nationale in Belgium, and Lottomatica in Italy, and provides PlayRGS content to Danske Spil in Denmark. IGT also supplies PlayRGS to Lotto New Zealand and to Canadian members Loto Québec, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission, and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation.

International Betting Integrity Association and Swedish Online Gambling Association Strengthen Betting Integrity Cooperation

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (November 17, 2020) -- The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and Branschföreningen för Onlinespel (BOS), the Swedish trade association for online gambling, have signed a partnership agreement which provides a framework for cooperation between the two bodies.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) will see the associations work together on projects of mutual interest.

Future activity is expected to be particularly focused on the challenges presented by recent regulatory changes in Sweden and promoting effective betting and integrity provisions that also maintain high levels of market oversight and consumer channelization.

“A clean sport, free from corruption, is of utmost importance for the gambling industry in Sweden. The gambling industry is a victim when matches are fixed, and it is therefore crucial to not only work hard, but to work together, against manipulation in sports.

We are very pleased that we now deepen our collaboration with IBIA in our joint goal; that sports betting shall be fun, safe, transparent and honest” says Gustaf Hoffstedt, secretary general, BOS.

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said: “IBIA members have faced a number of regulatory challenges in Sweden since its opening and the betting product restrictions set to be introduced at the start of 2021 will add further burdens, notably relative to unregulated offshore operators.

We believe that those restrictions will prove counterproductive and we hope that the Swedish authorities will take an evidence-based approach and continually reassess their position on this matter.

In the meantime, we will work with our colleagues at BOS to do all we can to keep that market safe.”
