The Veikkaus App is Now Also Available for Download in the Google Play Store

HELSINKI, Finland (March 19, 2021) -- The Veikkaus app can now be downloaded to Android phones from the Google Play Store. The app has previously been available for download in the Apple App Store, but for Android phones, the app has had to be downloaded via Veikkaus' website.

Veikkaus App

Google changed its app store rules 1.3. starting in 15 new countries, including Finland. Government gambling operators in these countries that are officially licensed in that country will have their apps available on the Google Play Store.

“It is really great for the customer that the Veikkaus app can be downloaded from the Google Play store in the future. Typically, applications are downloaded to phones through application stores, so the absence of the Veikkaus application from the Google Play store has been a significant shortcoming, which is now being remedied,” says Johanna Väisänen , Veikkaus' development manager.

The Veikkaus app has previously been available on the Google Play store, but four years ago, Google changed its rules to remove gambling apps from its store.

“Unfortunately, since then there have been occasional downloadable scams in the Google Play store that look like the Veikkaus app. The authenticity of the Veikkaus application, which is now being downloaded, can be verified by checking the publisher's name. The publisher of the genuine application is Veikkaus Oy and it appears under the name of the application,” Väisänen says.

The Veikkaus app can be found in the store with the search term "veikkaus" or or by searching directly at this link.

The change does not require any action from those who downloaded the application.

The entry of the Veikkaus app into the Google Play Store will not cause any action to those who have previously downloaded the app through the Veikkaus website. In the future, all app updates for Android phones will happen automatically through the app store. Only when you change your phone will you need to re-download the app from the Google Play Store.

The Veikkaus app can no longer be downloaded via the Veikkaus website, but will be downloaded from the App Store on the iPhone and Google Play on the Android phone. On Veikkaus' website, the customer is automatically directed to the right store.

Authentication is easy with the application

After 12 January 2021, Veikkaus slot machines can only be played by logging in with either a Veikkaus card, a payment card attached to the Loyal Customer, a browser version of or the Veikkaus application.

“It is a good idea to download the Veikkaus application to your phone, which makes it easy to identify yourself with a slot machine without a physical card. The Veikkaus card is also always included in the application in digital form,” Väisänen suggests.

“In Veikkaus, your favorite games can be played quickly and easily. In addition, it is easy to keep track of your own gaming and the amount of money spent on it through the app. It is also easy to check the results and watch the matches on VeikkausTV, for example, he adds.

Mississippi Lottery Corporation President Tom Shaheen to Retire End of June

JACKSON, MISS. (March 24, 2021) – The Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) President Tom Shaheen today announced he will retire June 30 of this year.

“This is a tough decision for me,” said Shaheen. “After spending more than 32 years in the lottery industry, it is time for me to take a step back and spend time with family. I will forever value the experience of being a part of the MLC family and living in Mississippi.

“Thank you to all of our hard-working employees, loyal retailers, diligent vendor partners, several state lotteries that provided unlimited support during start-up, and our dedicated board of directors,” he continued. “I believe this has been one of the most successful start-ups in the history of U.S. lotteries, if not the most.”

On May 7, 2019, the MLC Board of Directors hired Shaheen, who will turn 68 in May. He began work as the first employee of the MLC on June 1, 2019.

“I would like to especially thank the MLC Board of Directors for selecting me to lead the start-up of the Mississippi Lottery,” said Shaheen.  “It has been my sincere pleasure to work with a board whose tireless contributions were extremely instrumental to the success of start-up, along with the ongoing development of the lottery.”

Mike McGrevey, Chairman of the MLC Board of Directors, said Shaheen’s leadership style is unbeatable.

“Tom Shaheen has done an extraordinary job as president of the Mississippi Lottery,” said McGrevey, “When he informed us in January he was contemplating retirement, we knew he would leave massive shoes to fill.  Tom’s leadership has been instrumental to the smooth and successful start-up of the lottery, and we are immensely grateful for his time with us.

“While we are sad to see him leave, we wish him the best as he enters his well-earned retirement,” continued McGrevey.

Since start-up, the lottery staff has grown to 74.  The lottery sold its first instant ticket on November 25, 2019, and began offering Powerball® and Megamillions® on January 30, 2020.  During Shaheen’s time with the MLC, the lottery has transferred $70.7 million for FY2020 (7 months) and $84.9 million through February FY2021 to the state to benefit Mississippi’s roads, bridges and educational needs.

The Board of Directors will conduct a search for a new President with the goal of making a selection prior to Shaheen’s retirement.

Michigan Lottery Contributes Record $1.179 Billion to Michigan Schools in 2020

Michigan (March 24, 2021) -- The Michigan Lottery raised more than $1.179 billion for Michigan schools in fiscal year 2020. This marks the sixth record-setting year in a row for Lottery contributions to the School Aid Fund and the second consecutive year that the Lottery has generated more than $1 billion for public education in a single fiscal year.

“We continue to find ways to make historic investments in our classrooms in conjunction with the bipartisan budget that I signed last year to make the largest investment in K-12 education in the history of our state without raising taxes,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “The Michigan Lottery’s $1.179 billion contribution in education will add to this record investment to help our students, our teachers, and our communities thrive. For six years in a row, the Michigan Lottery has set records, and I am grateful to the players, retailers, vendors, and state agencies who make this investment in our kids and their future possible.”

Lottery contributions to the School Aid Fund over the prior five years were:

FY19: $1.070 billion

FY18: $941.28 million

FY17: $924.11 million

FY16: $888.91 million

FY15: $795.50 million

Since 1972, the Lottery has raised more than $24.5 billion for public education in Michigan. Approximately $5.8 billion or 23.6% of that amount was raised over the last six record breaking years.

The Lottery set several other significant records in FY20, including more than $4.2 billion in sales, more than $2.5 billion in prizes to players, and more than $307 million in commissions to Lottery retail locations across Michigan ranging in size from small independently owned stores to large chains.

Record sales in FY20 were driven in part by the Lottery’s internet platform and instant games. Internet-based sales increased by almost 88% and instant-game sales increased by about 23% compared to FY19. The Lottery’s internet platform saw an increase in player registrations which led to greater awareness of games both online and at retail. Players participating in promotions online frequently receive offers redeemed at retail locations, further connecting Lottery’s internet platform to retail businesses.

“Each Lottery purchase in Michigan helps raise critical funding for our schools,” said Lottery Commissioner Brian O. Neill. “The last six record-setting years would not be possible without the support of our players and the dedicated work of our retailers, vendors, and teams at both Lottery and supporting state agencies.”

The Lottery is also committed to promoting responsible gaming. Michigan was the first state lottery to receive certification of its online program through the National Council on Problem Gambling and also has attained Responsible Gaming Verification through the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries. Responsible gaming information and resources are available on the Lottery’s website.

For each dollar spent on a Michigan Lottery ticket in FY20, approximately:

61 cents went to players as prizes.

28 cents went to the School Aid Fund to support public education.

9 cents went to commissions for retailers and vendors.

2 cents funded the Lottery’s operations and administrative costs.

Under state law, all profits from the Lottery go to the School Aid Fund.

Pennsylvania Lottery Launches Cash 5 With Quick Cash

MIDDLETOWN, PA (March 24, 2021) – The Pennsylvania Lottery today announced it is revamping its longest- running jackpot game, Cash 5, by launching Cash 5 with Quick Cash. The Cash 5 with Quick Cash game is the same nightly draw game that players have always enjoyed, but now offers a chance to instantly win $2 or $6.

“The last time that the Pennsylvania Lottery made any changes to the Cash 5 game was in February of 2008, so it was due for a refresh,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “We listened to our players and we heard what they wanted: more chances to win and higher jackpots.”

Here’s what’s changing: Players who play Cash 5 with Quick Cash will receive their usual ticket with their numbers for the Cash 5 Evening Drawing. In addition to that ticket, players will also receive a separate Quick Cash game ticket, providing them with a chance to instantly win $2 or $6.

As part of the game changes for Cash 5 with Quick Cash, the cost per play is changing from $1 to $2. Players will find updated playslips at Lottery retailers across the Commonwealth. The Lottery anticipates that increased sales will support a higher starting jackpot and that players will experience higher jackpots more often.

“Lottery games, like Cash 5 with Quick Cash, help us generate funds that pay for vital programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians every day,” added Svitko. “These programs provide property tax and rent rebates, transportation, care services, prescription assistance, and local services including senior centers and meals.”

In April 23, 1992, the Pennsylvania Lottery introduced its longest-running jackpot game, Cash 5. Originally, Cash 5 players selected five numbers from 1 to 39 for a chance at the all-cash jackpot, starting at $100,000. Cash 5 started as a weekly game and eventually became a nightly drawing in 1998. In February 2008, the Lottery made a change to Cash 5, increasing the matrix from 5 of 39 numbers to 5 of 43 numbers.

The Lottery is reminding players to please play responsibly. Players must be 18 or older. Those who may have a gambling problem may call 1-800-GAMBLER or visit:

How to play Cash 5 with Quick Cash: Players select five numbers from 1 to 43. Players may select their own numbers using a Cash 5 with Quick Cash playslip or opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the Cash 5 jackpot. Players also win prizes for matching two, three or four winning numbers. Every $2 play includes one Quick Cash game. When any of your numbers match any winning number in the same Quick Cash game, win the prize shown for that game. Each Quick Cash game offers a chance to instantly win $2 or $6. The chances of winning a Quick Cash game are separate from the chances of winning the main Cash 5 game. The overall chances of winning in a Quick Cash game are 1 in 4.71. Chances of winning the Cash 5 jackpot prize are 1 in 962,598; the overall chances of winning any prize in the main Cash 5 game are about 1 in 10.5.

New Commission Model for Svenska Spel's Gaming and Lottery Agents

VISBY, Sweden (March 22, 2021) -- Today, March 22, Svenska Spel introduces a new commission model for gaming and lottery agents. This is done with the aim of keeping Svenska Spel competitive and at the same time giving the agents a continued attractive remuneration for the sale of games.

Already on January 1, 2019, the Swedish gaming market was deregulated, which means that there are now about 100 licensed gaming companies in Sweden.

While the gaming market has changed and gone from a monopoly to a competitive market, Svenska Spel's commission model for gaming and lottery agents has been the same for over 30 years. When the company now introduces a new commission model, it is therefore high time for change.

“Our agents are very important to us, which is why we have developed a new commission model that is positive for as many people as possible and that means higher remuneration for most of our agents. It provides conditions for Svenska Spel and our agents to develop the Retail business and together go strong into the future,” says Tove Kandell, Sales Manager Retail, Svenska Spel.

Svenska Spel has a total of approximately 5,000 agents, of which approximately 2,100 are gaming agents and approximately 2,900 are lottery agents. They were informed of the forthcoming change three months ago and have since received ongoing information in the form of, for example, educational films. In short, the new model includes, among other things, that the percentage sales commission for certain games and lotteries is increased, that the compensation for winnings and the Saturday fee is removed and that the compensation for new customer registration increases.

“Svenska Spel is the entire Swedish people's gaming company and we need to ensure that our business is competitive. Therefore, we are pleased that we have been able to develop a commission model that means an improvement for both us and our agents,” says Tove Kandell.
