China’s National Lottery Sales in January 2020 Decrease 20.745 Billion Yuan or 43.3% Compared with the Same Period Last year

  1. National Lottery Sales

In January, the country sold a total of 27.210 billion yuan in lottery tickets, a decrease of 20.745 billion yuan or 43.3% compared with the same period of the previous year (referred to as the same period last year). Among them, the sales of welfare lottery agencies were 1.289 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 8.328 billion yuan, a 39.3% decrease. The sales of sports lottery agencies was 14.320 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 12.416 billion yuan, or 46.4%.

Lottery sales in January decreased year-on-year. The main reason was that the lottery market was closed during the Spring Festival and some game rules were adjusted to reduce the sales of lottery tickets. The impact of the Asian Cup in January 2019 led to a large sales of sports lottery games. The base is higher in the same period last year.

2, Sales of Lottery Tickets by Type

In January, Lotto digital lottery sales were 14.969 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 9.918 billion yuan, a decrease of 39.9%; quiz lottery sales were 6.804 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 9.610 billion yuan, a 58.5% decrease; instant lottery sales were 2.777 billion yuan.

The year-on-year increase was 591 million yuan, an increase of 27.1%; the sales of video lottery tickets was 2.650 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 1.809 billion yuan, a decrease of 40.6%; the sales of Keno-type lottery tickets was 10 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.01 million yuan, a decrease of 7.8%.

In January, Lotto digital, quiz, instant, video and keno lottery sales accounted for 54.9%, 25.0%, 10.2%, 9.8%, and 0.1% of the total lottery sales, respectively.

  1. Lottery sales by region

In January, compared with the same period of the previous year, the sales of lottery tickets in 31 provinces across the country all declined. Among them, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Henan saw a larger decrease, which were 1.937 billion yuan, 1.929 billion yuan, and 1.808 billion yuan less than the same period last year. Yuan, 1.454 billion yuan and 1.166 billion yuan.

Financial departments at all levels and lottery agencies at all levels should conscientiously do a good job of issuing and selling lottery tickets during epidemic prevention and control, further strengthen supervision, actively create a good external environment, maintain normal market order, and promote the healthy development of the lottery industry.
