The General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling and the Higher Sports Council Join Forces in the Cooperation Network to Combat Fraud in the Sports Betting Market
SPAIN (August 30, 2021) — The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling and the Higher Sports Council have signed an agreement for the latter body to adhere to the Alert System on sports betting managed by the DGOJ, which is intended to prevent and combat fraud in the sports betting market, by detecting practices that may fraudulently alter the results of a sporting event.
The Sports Betting Alert System is a telematic and interactive cooperation network that supports permanent cooperation in the control of the betting market and to which all entities authorized by the DGOJ have access, as the body in charge of managing this platform. By signing this agreement, the CSD becomes part of this cooperation network.
The Alert System aims to protect participants in the betting market against fraudulent practices that, by altering the results of a sporting event, end up seriously distorting their participation in the game. But, in addition, it is configured as a fundamental tool to guarantee public order and to guarantee cleanliness in sport, since these threats violate its essential values and can affect fans and supporters.
