German Sports Betting Association Supports the Second Match Fixing Workshop of The Federal Criminal Police Office.

July 7, 2022 | Sports Betting

The participants of this year’s workshop first received a basic introduction to gambling regulation and an overview of current market events in the field of sports betting. They were then familiarized with the typical bookmaking processes in order to be able to understand exactly how sports bets and betting odds come about.

Based on this, the DSWV presented the current early warning and risk management systems of sports betting providers against betting fraud. After all, it is in the best interest of bookmakers to nip attempts or incidents of match-fixing in the bud. The technologies used, therefore, show abnormalities in betting and gaming that could indicate manipulation.

DSWV President Mathias Dahms comments:

“Many are unaware that the sports betting providers, along with the sport itself, are the financial victims of match fixing. Because match manipulation destroys the underlying calculation of the betting odds and, in the worst case, bookmakers have to pay out betting winnings obtained through fraud. We are therefore grateful that the BKA and LKÄ are taking action against attempts at manipulation. The DSVW advocates joint action against fraudulent activities in sport. The BKA can therefore count on the full support of our association and its members and can continue to contact us with suspected cases.”
