Ticket sales now average about $10 million a day

RALEIGH, NC (August 16, 2022) – With ticket sales now averaging $10 million a day, the N.C. Education Lottery just crossed the sales milestone of $35 billion.

The achievement occurred Monday, Aug. 15, on the Education Lottery’s 5,983rd day of sales. So far, the lottery has increased its ticket sales every year of its operations.

“Sales like this shows how much North Carolinians enjoy their lottery,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “Crossing milestones for sales means we are crossing milestones in raising money for education too. And that money, more than $9 billion, has made a lot of dreams come true.”

From those sales, the Education Lottery has produced:

  • $21.8 billion in prizes for lottery players. The lottery now averages about $6.9 million a day in prizes.
  • $9.3 billion in money raised for education programs in North Carolina. The lottery now raises on average more than $2.5 million a day for education programs in the state.
  • $2.4 billion in commissions to retailers who sell lottery tickets. Tickets sales happen at more than 7,000 locations across the state.

Lottery ticket sales started on March 30, 2006. The lottery’s portfolio of games ranges from scratch-off games to eight-draw games. More than 1.7 million adults in North Carolina have accounts and more than 843,000 are active participants in the lottery’s player loyalty program, Lucke-Rewards.
