China National Lottery Sales in May 2024

　1. National lottery sales

　　In May, the total sales of lottery tickets nationwide amounted to 47.617 billion yuan ^[1] , a decrease of 2.403 billion yuan or 4.8% year-on-year. Among them, welfare lottery sales amounted to 17.057 billion yuan, an increase of 670 million yuan or 4.1% year-on-year; sports lottery sales amounted to 30.560 billion yuan, a decrease of 3.073 billion yuan or 9.1% year-on-year. The main reasons for the decrease in national lottery sales are: first, due to the decrease in high-quality sports events, the growth rate of guessing lottery tickets has slowed down. Second, due to a variety of factors, the sales of instant lottery tickets have declined. Third, the lottery market gradually recovered in the same period last year, and the base period sales were relatively high.

　　From January to May, the total lottery sales in China totaled 252.54 billion yuan, up 27.369 billion yuan or 12.2% year-on-year. Among them, welfare lottery sales totaled 87.019 billion yuan, up 15.238 billion yuan or 21.2% year-on-year; sports lottery sales totaled 165.521 billion yuan, up 12.131 billion yuan or 7.9% year-on-year.

　　2. Lottery Sales by Type

　　In May, the sales of lottery numbers were 15.705 billion yuan, a decrease of 298 million yuan, or 1.9%, year-on-year; the sales of lottery guessing were 21.394 billion yuan, an increase of 77 million yuan, or 0.4%, year-on-year; the sales of instant lottery tickets were 6.759 billion yuan, a decrease of 3.024 billion yuan, or 30.9%, year-on-year; the sales of Keno lottery tickets were 3.759 billion yuan, an increase of 843 million yuan, or 28.9%. In May, the sales of lottery numbers, guessing, instant lottery tickets, and Keno lottery tickets accounted for 33.0%, 44.9%, 14.2%, and 7.9% of the total lottery sales, respectively. The sales of video lottery tickets were 0.0012 billion yuan, a decrease of 0.0012 billion yuan year-on-year.

　　From January to May, the cumulative sales of lottery numbers reached 74.967 billion yuan, an increase of 5.133 billion yuan year-on-year, an increase of 7.3%; the sales of lottery numbers reached 104.803 billion yuan, an increase of 2.051 billion yuan year-on-year, an increase of 2.0%; the sales of instant lottery tickets reached 55.715 billion yuan, an increase of 15.505 billion yuan year-on-year, an increase of 38.6%; the sales of Keno lottery tickets reached 17.055 billion yuan, an increase of 4.680 billion yuan year-on-year, an increase of 37.8%. From January to May, the sales of lottery numbers, lottery numbers, instant lottery tickets, and Keno lottery tickets accounted for 29.7%, 41.5%, 22.1%, and 6.7% of the total lottery sales, respectively. The sales of video lottery tickets reached 0.0058 billion yuan, an increase of 0.0005 billion yuan year-on-year.

　　3. Lottery Sales by Region

　　In May, compared with the same period last year, lottery sales in all provinces except Hunan, Anhui, Hainan and other nine provinces showed a slight decline. Among them, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hubei and Shandong saw the largest decreases, down 450 million yuan, 380 million yuan, 370 million yuan and 270 million yuan respectively year-on-year

　　Cumulatively from January to May, compared with the same period last year, lottery sales in all provinces except Hubei increased. Among them, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Xinjiang and Hunan saw the largest increases, increasing by 3.03 billion yuan, 1.88 billion yuan, 1.73 billion yuan and 1.70 billion yuan respectively.

　　Lottery agencies at all levels should closely track and analyze new situations and new problems, earnestly strengthen lottery issuance and sales, and ensure the smooth operation of the market. Financial departments at all levels should further strengthen lottery supervision, actively create a good external environment, maintain market order, and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the lottery industry.
