Gambling Companies with a Swedish License Had a Turnover of SEK 27.4 Billion in 2022
Strängnäs, Sweden (March 13, 2023) — Gaming companies with a Swedish license had a total turnover of SEK 27.4 billion (players’ stakes minus paid winnings) in the Swedish gaming market in 2022. This is an increase of 5.1 per cent compared to 2021.
The commercial online gaming and betting license category grew by just over 6 per cent. Turnover for a state lottery and slot machines was largely unchanged. The growth numbers must be seen against the background that several license categories were affected by the pandemic during the comparison year 2021, which was characterized, among other things, by the temporary gambling responsibility measures and that Casino Cosmopol was closed for parts of the year.
During the fourth quarter of 2022, turnover was SEK 7.2 billion. This is an increase of 3.2 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter in 2021. The figures are preliminary and are largely based on data from the Swedish Tax Agency.
At the end of quarter 4 2022, roughly 85,000 people were banned from gambling via Spelpaus.se. This is an increase of 5 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
