SWISSLOS was established on January 1, 2003 as a result of the merger of three lotteries:
- Interkantonale Landeslotterie,
- Sport-Toto-Gesellschaft and
- SEVA Lotteriegenossenschaft.
The full name of the lottery is SWISSLOS Interkantonale Landeslotterie which is located in Basel.

Established in 1937, the Swisslos Interkantonale Landeslotterie is a cooperative. The cooperative members, and hence also the owners and mandators, are the cantons of German-speaking Switzerland and the Canton of Ticino.
