Montana Lottery Announces Details for 2023 Montana Millionaire Game

HELENA, Montana (March 14, 2023) – After an unprecedented response in 2022, the Montana Lottery today announced details for this year’s version of the popular raffle game.

Lottery staff set to work designing the 2023 game immediately after last year’s tickets unexpectedly sold out in only 29 hours. The Lottery last week proposed a new design to the Governor-appointed Montana Lottery Commission, which approved it unanimously.

Montana Lottery Director Scott Sales said player feedback was a major factor in determining how to proceed after last year’s record sales.

“Montanans sent a clear message: They love Montana Millionaire and want every opportunity to play,” he said. “An incremental change wouldn’t be enough, so we’ve gone all in with the biggest increase to the number of tickets we’ve ever done, plus another $1 million grand prize.”

This year’s game will feature 380,000 tickets – 100,000 more than in 2022 – and three $1 million prizes instead of two. Because of how the game was designed, the odds of winning $1 million will improve. Following tradition, the game will launch on Nov. 1 and sell for $20 per ticket.

Players who wish to remain informed of updates related to Montana Millionaire are encouraged to follow the Lottery’s social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and to sign up for the Player’s Club at montanalottery.com.

Last year’s grand prize tickets were sold in Great Falls and Butte. The Great Falls ticket was claimed by a player from Helena, while the Butte ticket remains yet to be claimed.

The Montana Lottery was created by a citizen’s referendum in 1986. Since then, it has paid over $774 million in prizes and returned approximately $302 million to the State of Montana and $83 million in retailer commissions.
