INDIANAPOLIS (December 22, 2022) – For the fourth consecutive year, POWERBALL® and dick clark productions are teaming up with participating lotteries across the U.S. to give players a chance to become the “POWERBALL First Millionaire of the Year.” Indiana residents have a contender to cheer for, as Hoosier Lottery player Heather Petty, 37, from Alexandria is one of 29 finalists advancing to the next round.

“I had gotten a phone call that went to voicemail, so I checked my voicemail and it said I was a finalist,” said Petty. “I thought, ‘Did I hear that right?’ Then I got an email saying I was a finalist, and I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really happening.'”

As the Indiana finalist drawn from almost 120,000 entries, Petty receives an all-inclusive four-day, three-night trip to New York, tickets to an exclusive New Year’s Eve gala in Times Square, two gift bags with a retail value of $350 each, $1,000 in spending money and the chance to win $1 million. Her husband will be accompanying her on her trip.

Hoosiers will be able to watch Petty, along with other finalists from participating lotteries, during ABC’s live broadcast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2023.” Country artist Jessie James Decker will return as the POWERBALL co-host for her fourth year and will provide live updates throughout the evening, checking in with finalists celebrating at the POWERBALL New Year’s Eve gala, before revealing the “POWERBALL First Millionaire of the Year” alongside Ryan Seacrest just after midnight EST on Jan. 1, 2023.

Petty, a postal worker, has lived in Alexandria her whole life. While her four children and six dogs keep her busy, she likes to play Powerball in her free time because of the excitement it brings and because “there’s always something new,” she said.

Each of the 29 finalists entered a second-chance drawing or contest held by one of the 29 U.S. lotteries participating in the POWERBALL promotion.

“Having one of our fellow Hoosiers to cheer for as we ring in a new year is so thrilling,” said Sarah M. Taylor, Hoosier Lottery Executive Director. “Each year this event has provided fun and excitement to both finalists and viewers. This year’s group of finalists will certainly give people all over the country a reason to cheer, and hopefully, come midnight, we will get to celebrate a new Hoosier millionaire.”

Hoosier Lottery players John Bowers of Peru and Ryan Miles of Rushville each won an all-inclusive trip to New York as part of the myLOTTERY 2nd Chance promotion but will not be eligible for the $1 million drawing.
