Extraordinary Education Milestones, Jackpots, and More

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (December 30, 2022) – Today, the Florida Lottery (Lottery) is proud to highlight the significant accomplishments and milestones reached in 2022, during Governor DeSantis’ fourth year in office.

This year was another one for the record books and furthered our mission of creating brighter futures for students, their families, and the communities in which they reside across Florida. Under Governor DeSantis’ guidance and leadership, and with support from our loyal players, dedicated retailers, gaming vendors, and hard-working employees, the future of the Lottery looks brighter than ever.

This year, the Lottery:

SET RECORDS FOR SALES AND TRANSFERS TO EDUCATION

  • Record sales and education contributions were reached during the Fiscal Year 2021-22.
    — The Lottery celebrated its 11th consecutive record-breaking sales year – exceeding $9.32 billion in annual sales for the Fiscal Year 2021-22, making Florida the number one Lottery in the country for total sales!
    — As a result of this extraordinary sales year, the Lottery transferred a record $2.3 billion to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in the Fiscal Year 2021-22; marking the second consecutive year that education contributions exceeded $2 billion in a single fiscal year.
  • Sales record reached 38 days into the Fiscal Year 2022-23.
    — In August, Fiscal Year 2022-23 sales reached $1 billion in just 38 days, setting a record for the quickest the Lottery has reached $1 billion in sales in a single fiscal year.
  • Reached three major milestones in contributions to education.
    — In February, the Lottery’s life-to-date education contributions reached $41 billion.
    — Five months later, in July, the Lottery’s reached $42 billion in life-to-date education contributions.
    — Another five months later, in December, the Lottery reached $43 billion in contributions to education since 1988.

MASSIVE JACKPOTS GENERATE RECORD SALES AND EDUCATION CONTRIBUTIONS

  • The MEGA MILLIONS® jackpot rolled 28 times resulting in a $1.3 billion jackpot in July.
    — This series of jackpot rolls generated more than $74.1 million for education in Florida.
    — MEGA MILLIONS ticket sales for the week ending July 31 exceeded $89.4 million, setting a new Florida record for the highest single-week sales for the game. That same week, total sales exceeded $259.1 million, setting the record for the highest single-week total sales.
  • The POWERBALL® jackpot rolled 40 times resulting in a world-record $2.09 billion jackpot in November.
    — This series of jackpot rolls generated more than $110 million for education in Florida.
    — POWERBALL ticket sales for the week ending November 6 exceeded $122.8 million, setting a new Florida record for the highest single-week sales for the game. That same week, total sales exceeded $305.4 million, setting the record for the highest single-week total sales.

MADE HISTORY WITH FLORIDA’S FIRST $50 SCRATCH-OFF TICKET

  • In February, the Lottery introduced its first $50 Scratch-Off game, 500X THE CASH. The ticket features a top prize of $25 million-the largest Scratch-Off top prize ever offered on a Florida Lottery Scratch-Off game.
  • The ticket set an industry record for the highest single-week sales of any Scratch-Off game in the country during its first week, with sales topping $58.7 million.
  • Since launching in February, the game has generated more than $261.7 million for education!
