Online Gambling in Portugal Registers a Growth of 8.6% in 3Q 2022

LISBON, Portugal (January 7, 2023) — Recently, it was published that the online gaming market in Portugal reported an increase of 8.6% in the third quarter of 2022. The information was revealed by the Portuguese Game Regulation and Inspection Service (SRIJ).

In addition, the GGR on the market was 159.1 million euros, during the period from July to September 2022. Therefore, the online games market grew by 8.6%, according to a report by the Portuguese Service of Game Regulation and Inspection.

In analysis, the document also reported that the sports betting market had a contribution of 89.8 million euros, which culminated in 43.5% of the total raised with the online gaming market. Meanwhile, casino games had a total collection of 69.3 million euros, which contributed 56.5% to the amount of the online gaming market in Portugal.

It is worth mentioning that, in Portugal, there are 15 operators that are authorized in the market to explore 26 licenses in some sectors. For example, 11 licenses are for exploring sports betting, while 15 are for general gaming.

Therefore, Portugal’s tax revenue reported that there was a margin of 50.3 million euros in the third quarter of 2022, and this resulted in an increase of 10.3 million euros compared to the same period of 2021. of online games in Portugal continues to show a good performance in its growth.
