Releases Corporate Social Responsibility Annual Report

INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 15, 2023) — The Hoosier Lottery has again been recognized for its responsible gaming programs by achieving certification through the Responsible Gaming Verification for Lottery Organizations.

This joint program of the National Council on Problem Gambling and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries focuses on acknowledging that gaming operators, among others, play an important role in helping to prevent problem gambling and ensuring funds are generated for good causes.

U.S. lotteries that receive World Lottery Association (WLA) Level 4 certification automatically receive Responsible Gaming Verification for Lottery Organizations at the Sustaining Level, which is for lotteries that have already implemented responsible gambling programs and want to make their programs even stronger. The Hoosier Lottery was re-certified for the third consecutive time in 2021, with its current certification valid through 2024.

“We are committed to operating in a socially responsible manner in all aspects of our work,” said Sarah M. Taylor, executive director of the Hoosier Lottery. “Best practices of responsible gaming factor into every decision we make regarding games, marketing, and advertising. I am so proud of each employee and our entire team’s efforts to achieve this certification.”

The Hoosier Lottery also has released its Corporate Social Responsibility Annual Report. The Report contains Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 information and data regarding three pillars of the Hoosier Lottery’s corporate social responsibility program: responsible gaming, engagement, and responsible practices.

The work discussed in the Report supports the Lottery’s mission to return maximum net income to the state of Indiana in a socially responsible manner. Since 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has contributed more than $7 billion to good causes and provides annual contributions of $30 million each to local police and firefighters’ pensions and $30 million to the Teachers’ Retirement Fund.

As one example of its responsible gaming work, the Lottery promoted the Problem Gambling Helpline and provided treatment referral information to players who may need it. In FY 2022, Hoosier Lottery customer service representatives transferred 1,400 calls to the helpline, while the Chat Now online feature had almost 5,000 contacts and retailers printed more than 10,000 slips with the helpline number for players.

The report also discusses the Lottery’s other two pillars, responsible practices, and engagement. For example, the Lottery spent more than $2.4 million with Minority and Women Business Enterprises, and Lottery employees supported community organizations such as Indy Humane, Gleaners Food Bank, Toys for Tots, Indy Pride, and Teachers’ Treasures.
