Betfair Receives a Warning and Penalty Fee for Unauthorized Betting

Strängnäs, Sweden (April 27, 2023) — Betfair International plc (Betfair) has on several occasions offered betting on the U21 Allsvenskan to Swedish customers, which is not permitted. Betting on football in the Swedish league system may only be offered at the four highest league levels according to regulation SIFS 2020:2.

The Swedish Gaming Authority considers that the violation is serious and has occurred systematically. The fact that the games have taken place at low compensation for Betfair does not affect the Gambling Authority’s assessment.

Betfair receives a warning for offering unauthorized betting and must pay a penalty fee of SEK 4 million.

Betfair has a license for commercial online gambling and betting and operates games on the website betfair.se.
