Under the bill, those 21 and older would be able to bet on professional sports games and some college sporting events.

(May 5, 2023) — According to local media reports the state of Vermont is one step closer to allowing residents to bet on their favourite sports and teams.

NBC5 report the Senate gave final approval to a bill that would legalize mobile sports betting in the state on Thursday. Under the bill, those 21 and older would be able to bet on professional sports games and some college sporting events.

The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery will be in charge of creating and running the program, saying they expect it to be up and running in time for the upcoming NFL season playoffs.

The next step for the bill is to move on to the House before heading to the governor’s desk.

This week, Governor Phil Scott said he plans to sign the bill into law.

The bill also sets aside money to create a program to help those with a gambling problem.
