Current Licensees Providing Games in Sweden Must Apply for a Renewal Prior to the Current License Expires

June 27, 2023 | Government

Strängnäs, Sweden (June 22, 2023) — Many licenses for land-based commercial gaming and licenses for gambling on slot machines expire during the year. Licensees who wish to continue to provide games in Sweden must apply for a renewed license in time before the current license expires.

Apply no later than four months before the existing license expires

If an application for renewal of a license is submitted no later than four months before the existing license expires, the license continues to apply until the Gaming Authority decides on the new application. This applies on the condition that it is the same legal entity that applies for a renewed license.

New application fees from 1 July 2023

New license or permit application fees will come into force on 1 July 2023.

Game places must be registered via a special form

Gambling sites must be registered with the Swedish Gambling Authority, these will no longer have their own licence. Already granted licenses for gambling sites will be registered when renewing the license and in these cases do not need to be registered again.

New game places are reported via the form “Notification of game place”.

Gambling sites are deregistered in cases where the requirements are no longer met or if the licensee requests it.
