Gaming Contribution to Macau Local Economy Drops 51 Percent in 2022
MACAU, SAR (September 8, 2023) — Gross value added that gaming sector contributed to the overall economy plummeted by 51.6 per cent year-on-year to MOP30.37 billion (US$3.76 billion) in 2022, Macau News Agency reported the Gaming Sector Survey 2022 released on Friday.
The survey, which focuses on gaming activities, gathered data from 9 enterprises involved in gaming operations, excluding data on hotel, retail and other businesses operated by these firms.
According to MNA the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) reported that the gross surplus of the gaming sector before taxes were deducted witnessed a significant drop of 72.8 per cent year-on-year to MOP11.56 billion in the previous year.
Additionally, the total receipts of the gaming sector dropped by 49.2 per cent year-on-year to MOP46.20 billion. Receipts from games of chance specifically declined by 51.5 per cent to MOP42.12 billion.
The total expenditure of the gaming sector went down by 24.7 per cent year-on-year to MOP40.31 billion, which was primarily driven by a substantial 66.6 per cent decrease in expenditure on goods purchases, commissions, and customer rebates.
